Peaceful stay

Stayed for 8 nights in a deluxe villa - everything was great.
Few things were or broke down during our stay, but all were handled immediately.
Food was good, the list being pretty long - they had a daily recommendation, so we followed that.
Staff was super helpful and helped us find things to do.
Got transported from and to airport by them and the driver managed to get us safely through the somewhat chaotic traffic.

Would definitely recommend and will come back.

Looks great on the surface but the reality is different. We had a one bed villa. Lovely spacious area with private pool.

However once settled in these things became apparent:
1. Air conditioning didn’t work properly. It was stuck on one temperature.
2. There were loads of bugs in the bed. LOADS. Like the room hadn’t been freshened up in weeks
3. WiFi didn’t work and had to be reset. Clearly not checked in time for our arrival
4. Biggest issue - THIS HOTEL DO NOT SELL BOTTLED WATER. how is that even possible?! None provided in room. We had to source our own. None served at breakfast or dinner.
5. When we mentioned these things at checkout the receptionist didn’t apologise. Not even bothered.

Everything seems cheap. Like the security guard/ gardener showed us to our room.

Do not stay here.

Great stay at Griya

If youre into quiet serene views, lots of space and being surrounded by nature, far from the hustle and bustle of city life, then Griya is the place for you. We really enjoyed our stay abd the staff were super helpful and friendly.
It was during caterpillar season though and part of the \"nature\" bit included the upsides and downsides...in this case, loads of caterpillars crawling everywhere- you get used to it after a while and they're quick to send someone round to clean up.
If you are travelling there/back late at night, the service support might be minimal outside working hours.

Beautiful for a romantic getaway

We loved our stay at the Griya Villas and spas. We had one of the deluxe villas with a private pool and ocean view. The view is spectacular. It's like 2 villas with a courtyard. The living room / kitchen villa is so relaxing. The common areas of the hotel are also very nice and clean. The pool is very beautiful. It was very quiet when we were there, which made the stay very enjoyable.
The spa therapists are very good and the spa offer is great.

Watch out if you take the yoga classes. Make sure to tell the teacher not to touch you. He adjusted my husband without asking him and caused a big contracture to his back, which really made the end of our stay not so pleasant.

Make also sure to ask about the hotel complimentary shuttle to go to Amed. It runs a few times every day. Amed has basically a taxi cartel where they harrass Grab drivers if they're in the area so they can keep charging tourists 100,000 IDR (10 AUD) for a 5 minute drive.
I highly recommend renting a scooter when you're there.

Overall I think it's the nicest hotel to stay at when you're in Amed. Highly recommend it.

Great stay in Amed

We truly enjoyed our stay at The Griya Villas. Location was superb for diving with many dive shops and dive sites just around the corner. Hotel staff did a wonderful job in accommodating all our wishes. They also went above and beyond to get our lost luggage from the airport.

Food at the restaurant was tasty, nicely presented and great value for the money. We also appreciated a possibility to have breakfast at our villa, especially during the early mornings we went for a dive.

Only drawback was very small flies(?) which occasionally bothered us during the night. Overall a great stay, excellent service at this interesting and less touristy part of Bali!

The property location was beautiful. The lack of available facility amenities such as sauna, treadmill and bikes was disappointing for a 5 star resort. The dining facilities were well below the standard expected from a 5 star resort. The manager appeared quite arrogant and unperturbed that our Villa was not available to us until after 4pm although check in was 2pm. Additional to this on our dining experience there were a number of things from the menu that were not available on 3 separate occasions that we had breakfast.

It’s a pleasant hotel, very big space, good food and good facilities. Very quiet, perfect for families. The only downside is too many bugs, especially the centipedes. There are millions of them every morning everywhere. Very scary. As the toilet and shower is open outdoors, they get in very easily. We found few in our bed.

We stayed at The Griya for our honeymoon and had an incredible experience. We were welcomed with a drinks, a bathtub full of petals, and a heart shaped cake to celebrate our honeymoon. The view from our suite was absolutely breathtaking. The breakfast was plated and served versus a buffet and it was delicious. We ate at the hotel restaurant 2 nights during our stay and really enjoyed the food there. We would especially recommend the Mount Agung dome pizza!

We booked a room with a private pool and didn’t regret it at all!! The room was jaw-dropping. We felt like royalty.

The service upon check in and check out was incredible, but could be slightly improved during our stay. The staff originally said they could help us book a boat transfer to Gili. When we asked the next day, they gave us a pamphlet and told us to call the number on the brochure. However, there was no cell service from our room which was at the top of a hill (there was WiFi tho!). We tried calling from the hotel phone but the phones are only able to call within the hotel. So we had to call the office again and ask them specifically to book it for us, which felt like they were a little annoyed with.

The Griya remains the highest end resort in the amed area. If you want ease and western standards in a hotel setting then this is the place for you. The villas are lovely and although tightly packed in, they are very private and sweet.
The property is quite steep so this is not a good place for those not comfortable with lots of stairs.
Leaving the griya, an easy walk to the right leads to local warnings (cheap restaurants) and very low-key beach bars. There is little super market for supplies down this way as well and a couple fun little shops. Great beach and snorkeling access from this side.
Leaving the griya to the left, you’ll likely want a driver, but there are also fun warnings and bars.

Beautiful room and balcony/pool area. We were kindly upgraded to a 2 bedroom villa with the second bedroom locked.

Some small criticisms - bedroom had an odour, i think from the roof but it smelt damp. Bedsheets also smelt damp when changed and were a little stained (blood stains/general marks) which wasn't pleasant.

Food in the restaurant was average - on the first day we tried to take them up on their pizza meal offer and after ordering, was told the oven was broken. They wouldnt honour the deal with another main we wanted to order despite it actually being a cheaper dish. This was a bit disappointing. Breakfast to the villa was good.

Beautiful hotel, but details need improvement

Beautiful view, beautiful hotel design. But the hotel condition was not very good, especially from some details. For example, the hair dryer had a loose joint - it can’t stay up straight. The welcome fruits had large black spots or already bad. The TV doesn’t function well - many channels had frozen picture. They use sliding doors - good aesthetic design, but it can’t be closed tight. So the sound isolation was bad. The band in the bar was playing until 10:30pm and we couldn’t go to sleep until they finished. I tried to call front desk at 10pm but no one answer.

Family trip to Bali

We spent five nights at the Griya and loved Amed. It is unusual for us to eat in the hotel in the evenings but on this occasion we did and every meal was superb. The staff are very very pleasant. The rooms and the view from our room was great.

Large and luxurious villas in Amed, at a price

The Griya is a collection of villas a 5min car ride from Amed or Lipa beach. They market themselves as a 5* property so the review will be a little more stringent given their prices and expectations.

We got a large 2 double bedrooms villa with a huge private pool. The second bedroom was closed and we couldn't use it. The room is very large and has a nice sized bathroom with a large tub. The bed, linen and towel quality were very good. You are given towels for the pool too. The larger villa comes with a living area (kitchen, utensils, dining table, sofa and tv) that can be closed. The pictures on the website are quite in line with what you will get (even roses on the bathtub!) If you are a fan of sunbathing note that the villas are looking the opposite way and you will have some sun in the morning but will be in shade in the early afternoon.

However, since this is a 5* hotel they may want to check a few details that may bother the most stringent travellers: the first morning I noticed the bedsheets had not been changed from the previous guests (or were just dirty with stains), the doors on the living area could not be opened showing a lack of maintenance, the breakfast was noting special and the last morning during check out the manager was simply rude or uninterested on asking for any feedback (a strange thing as Balinese are extremely polite and serviceable).

There are a few restaurants not far from the hote at night do not forget a flashlight!

Wifi was spotty.

they charge you for the transport from the airport - which is needed as its a 3 hour drive - however, i think it would be a better touch if they increased the room prices and stated the airport transfer is free to give a more high end, luxury experience

We really enjoyed our stay st Griya. The warm greeting from Debbie when we arrived to the wonderful service from all the team. It made our stay there. Our villas was private and the view to the sea was wonderful.breakfast can be served in your villa, but we found the food served in the restaurant excellent. They also had live music several evenings while were there. Nothing was too much trouble. You really need to hire a scooter to get around during the day, then you get to see more of Amed. A charming little seaside area. Griya just need to keep on top of their maintenance schedules, some of the furniture needs repairs/cleaning.

But there were rats droppings on our bedsheets for 2 nights so that's something I think that needs to improve. We definitely can't avoid it being outdoor but we really don't wanna see that indoor. Beautiful and the only luxurious place to stay

Great hotel in Amed. Private villas are all beautifully designed and kept very clean. Eating and treatments at the hotel are very expensive compared to others in the area. 2-3 times more expensive and they will add 21% for service and tax to the already high prices. Staff is professional, food is great and all in all very good combination of privacy and the less turisty Amed. Highly recommend. Not for budget travellers.

I've been to many 5stars resorts/villas throughout Bali now and this is by far the best suite I've stayed in. It is absolutely gorgeous, huge and has so many amazing details: outdoor tub/ shower, private infinity pool, stunning views, unlimited free cold/ hot water, so many places to lounge inside and out, and the list of details goes on.
And as you leave your room, which you technically never have to, the property is equally as spectacular with an amazing restaurant, pool, rooftop bar and spa. Also the staff were soo friendly!
Sadly we had a bunch of rain so we weren't able to enjoy every aspect, and even with this rain, which can damper ones view of a place, I still loved this resort.

Only con, and it can be a pro for others is its remoteness.

Fantastic! The staff were wonderful, the villa was lovely and so relaxing, breakfast delivered to the villa each morning during our 3 night stay was perfect, and the kids loved the pool.

The staff went so far beyond our expectations that it's hard to overstate what a great job they did. Our son turned 1 while we were at the Griya and the staff decorated the bedroom and presented him with a birthday cake (free of charge!) as well.

We would love to visit the Griya again, and our two bedroom villa (#7) was superb.

A high-quality hotel in a picturesque spot in east Bali. The route there involves a twisting road that can cause moton sickness for some, but it's a small cost for the location overlooking the coast. The only negative was that the bowl of fruit, left in the ajoining kitchen as a welcome gift, attracted a rat the first night.

Nice and upscale resort with excellent service

Griya resort is up-scale resort at Amed where the town is mostly a diver/ snorkelers-heaven. Each villa has excellent view from the hillside with an infinity pool. The decor is contemporary. A special kudos to the manager, Dewii who went out of her way to ensure our stay is superb from arranging ride to restaurant and planning our agenda for the Family Fun Package. If you have time as a family ( 2 +2) , the family fun package is something ( something you have to book directly with the resort), I recommended as you can have a photo portrait session, rafting, dinner, massage etc for a reasonable price of $400 plus.
The restaurant offers very high quality dinner but the breakfast was quite average. In room service for breakfast and massage are also nice features.

Luxury in beautiful remote coastal setting

The Amed region comprises various beautiful little traditional fishing villages on the north east coast of Bali. This region is what Bali use to be like 30 years ago prior to being overrun with tourists. If you a have a sense of adventure and enjoy traditional Balinese culture this is a very rewarding region to explore. This is not a destination for surfing and night life. This is ideal for those that are tired of the crowds and commercialisation of Southern Bali region. Amed has mostly budget to mid-range accommodation. In May 2016 the Griya is the only 5-star resort. The Villas, resort, food and service are excellent. The resort is located on the hillside overlooking the ocean and fishing village below. The beach and village is within walking distance. The Griya provide their vehicles / drivers for local transport. The ideal transport and means to explore the area is to hire a motor scooter for the duration of your stay. Follow the coast though various traditional fishing villages and explore up into the hillside farms and rice paddies. Amed has good scuba diving and snorkelling. There are numerous beautiful quite beaches with few or no tourists with direct access from the coastal road. Amed is 3.5 to 4-hour drive from Ngurah Rai Airport, Kuta and Seminyak. It is a very scenic journey and well worth the drive.

Neglected Hotel

The title says it all. This hotel is supposed to be a 5 star luxury hotel. In reality, there are hole sin the floor, broken mirrors in the gym, leaking roof in the restaurant, no daily cleaning of room, no turn-down service given, and nobody manning reception at all times. The place has definitely been neglected and the staff, although some were so warm and friendly, looked bored and as if everything was an effort.

Everything about this hotel was nice, from the extremely helpful and friendly staff to some of the most delicious food I had in Bali. There's nothing to fault. The rooms were very comfortable, and we couldn't see a reason why not to have room service in our own little dining room next to our own private pool. Really nice! Aircon was strong, beds super comfy. We did the classic, put on bathrobes and played tourist and the weekend went by quickly!

The hotel itself is one of the nicest ones in Amed, Bali and the food is delicious. But its lacking in other areas, the spa needs to have better lighting and the rooms are sort of dull. Also, the massage therapist were way too ruff, i went in for a \"relaxation\" massage and it felt more like a deep tissue, even when i requested that the pressure be lessoned it still hurt. I left with a few bruises and very painful shoulders for the next two days. However, their hair cream bath was very good.
The room itself was pretty and the view was gorgeous, but the place itself definitely needs to handle its mosquito and fly problem, you can't enjoy your meal because of all the flies and at night you can't enjoy hanging out outside because of the mosquitos. They do offer a lotion to repel them but it doesn't help much.
Tip: definitely rent a scooter and enjoy riding through the villages it was the highlight of my trip. the rent of the scooters is equivalent to five dollars for the whole day.

This was the best place we stayed in Bali (we stayed in Seminyak, Permuteran, Lembongan, and about to go to Ubud). The villas are gorgeous, clean, and have wonderful amenities (private pool; tub carved from a single stone, single serve coffee maker with pods and filtered water in kitchen). The food and cocktails were very good. The only problem we had was that their machines would not read any of of our credit cards (even though we have used them in other places in Bali before and since). This meant we had to use all our Rupiah and some dollars for the bill and then go to the ATM again. Since they charged our same card to book the room this was annoying.

We had an amazing stay at the Griya Villa and Spa. The pictures displayed on expedia do not do the resort any justice it's even more beautiful in person. We stayed in Villa 3 and had an gorgeous view. The staff were extremely friendly and really nice. They were very pleasant and always welcoming. They were some of the nicest people I've met. The hotel has everything you need if you are looking for a relaxing time. They also have books, magazines and movies available for you to use. We absolutely loved it. My only recommendation is a bit of improvement with the Restaurant menu. Maybe they can have two different themes throughout the week so that there are more options available. The food was just okay compared the food offered in the vicinity by other restaurants.

The resort is 43 kilometres from the airport which in Bali driving is three hours away. It's a bit far but it all depends what you're looking for. We went for our honeymoon and wanted to stay in a remote location. Overall is a great spot!

Great location and great view from the private pool ocean view room. Hotel staff were ok i have have a lot nicer in bali. Took 40 mins to be checked in aftwr arriving at 3.30pm. The staff did make us a breakfast when we had an early departure which was great.villa was stunning but loads of mositiqoes as there is a gap in the closing of the outside door. Outdoor shower and bath was also awesone. Food at the resturant an room service was brillant. Very real bali in the surroundings. Ideal to hire scooter ad go for a drive through the local.villages. also loads of spots.for.snorklkng but most of the reef is damaged and no.longer living.

If you are looking for late night room service, get the calzone. Sounds odd in Indonesia, but you won't regret it.

This hotel is great. Really enjoyed the private pool and the ocean view, the sunrise every morning - beautiful.
The service is really excellent - the staff will do their best to accomodate your needs.
We contacted the staff before arrival about us being vegetarian/vegan and they created a vegetarian/vegan menu
specifically for us and did their best to suit our needs if we asked for something not on the menu - excellent!

A little piece of heaven in Bali

What a stunning and peaceful setting, a perfect getaway from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. You will feel instantly relaxed and at peace in Griya's beautiful villas. We spent 4 days there and never wanted to leave! Staff will do anything to ensure your stay is beyond your satisfaction. Food is fabulous. Cocktails are even better, especially in the infinity pool's swim up bar! Griya is amazing :)

No better place

Very private. Best accommodations for couples. Private pool. Not much to do in the area. Very out if the way. Everything is five star. 2.5 hours from airport but the drive gives you a look at the local culture. Terraced rice fields are numerous. In forty years of travel I have found no better place.

The hotel is equipped with good hardware with excellent environment. Overall feeling is very peaceful, comfort, my gf and I really enjoyed this Hotel.

Things to note, this hotel is very far from the city, at least 3 hours drive. So time to get here is one thing, and the transportation cost. If you book this hotel I suggest at least book 2 nights.

Also das Resort oder die Anlage von The Griya Villas und Spa bedarf für mich eine spezielle Bewertung. Zum Positiven... Ich habe die Deluxe Villa für mich und meinen Partner für 2 Nächte gebucht. Eigentlich war sie fantastisch, die Einrichtung, die Küche, das Schlafzimmer, Badezimmer und der große Pool sind ein Traum. Die Aussicht würde eigenglich 6 Sterne verdienen. Die Sauberkeit der Villa, des Pools und der gesamten Anlagen ist auch 1A. Wir haben bei der Ankunft ein Getränk bekommen und in der Villa gab es einen schönen Früchtekorb . Auch gab es einen Kuchen, einen wunderschönen Blumenstrauß und Geburtstagswünsche und Deko im Schlafzimmer. Dies alles ist wirklich super. Aber nun zum etwas Negativen. Ich buchte diese Villa, mit insgesamt 250 Quadratmetern, es wurde aber ein Teil der Villa gesperrt, da wir ja nur 2 Personen waren und das 2 Schlafzimmer nicht benötigen. Sowas sollte man nicht machen, da es keine Rolle spielt, wieviel Leute wir sind, wenn man eine Villa bucht und bezahlt, dann hat man unbeschränkten Zugriff auf den gesamten Komplex. Auch der Whirlpool war ausser Betrieb und wie es scheinte, schon etwas länger und auch das darf nicht sein. Ich bezahlte auch für den Whirlpool in der Villa. Das Spa war Top, also AAA aber auch der Preis war nicht ohne. Das Essen auf der Rooftopbar, das aber vom Restaurant kam war ok, aber jedoch nicht mehr. Wir haben nur 1 Mal dort gegessen, das muss ich dazu sagen. Ich würde diese Anlage aber auf jeden Fall wieder buchen.

Wir hatten eine sehr schöne Zeit hier und würden dieses Ressort uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.
Wenn man es mit vielen anderen Hotels in Bali vergleicht, merkt man schnell dass die Lage und Ausstattung ziemlich gehoben ist. Die Lage der Villen am Hang mit private Pool und Sicht aufs Meer ist schon einmalig und kaum zu toppen. Sowas ist alleine deshalb schon kaum zu finden.
Wer nun ganz pingelig ist, wird feststellen, dass manche Gardine etwas genäht werden müsste, ein Rolladen nicht vollständig funktioniert oder die Poolliege etwas verzogen ist. Aber: das ist bewertet nach typisch deutscher Kritik.
Die Mitarbeiter sind alle sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Auch sonst ist alles sehr gepflegt und wirklich sauber.
Deshalb sind 5 Sterne hier wirklich voll verdient!

バスタブありの部屋でしたが、夜になるとお湯がでなくなりますので注意が必要です
最終日はWi-Fiが入らなくなり、スタッフに尋ねたら街中（この地区）がwifiが作動しないとのことでした田舎あるあるですね

God restaurant sammenlignet med de andre 2 hoteller vi besøgte. Dejlig stor pool, terrasse og værelse. Dog meget slidt, intet myggenet så vi fik et myggetelt hvilket begrænsede vores soveareal markant og der var hul i så vi stadig fik myggestik. Badeværelses døren skulle forces op og i, den larmede latterligt meget og kunne kun låses fra værelset... Dårlig og slidt stand generelt. Meget beskidt afløb i badekarret så vi mistede appetitten til at bruge det. Vi havde bestilt et værelse med fri udsigt over havet men fik udsigt over tagene på de foran liggende villaer og kun delvist hav.

Was uns nicht gefallen hat:

- der Fitnessraum war nicht so ansprechend (keine guten Trainingsgeräte, kein Fenster mit Blick nach draußen)
- beim Abendessen war nicht immer alles vorrätig, was auf der Karte angeboten wurde
- das Hotel liegt etwas außerhalb von Amed
