We booked this for our mini honeymoon the three nights following our wedding (end of Sept) and were excited to stay in the King Suite. But ended up being quite disappointed. The room was very cold with no heat and the front desk person wasn't the nicest when we asked for extra blankets. We weren't expecting the red carpet but at least a \"thanks so much for choosing to stay here for your honeymoon\". Some of the staff were great but generally no one cared that we had chose Dalvay for our honeymoon over Blackbush or elsewhere. It's a beautiful place but badly needs updating as the gov't did recognize and will eventually put money into the main building. But, we wouldn't stay there again until that happens.

Dalvay by the Sea has the charm you are looking for when visiting PEI. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds of the hotel have much to offer. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant and both were very good. The beach is minutes away by foot. Booked a room with a view and highly recommend. I know reviews have stated this already but rooms have no TVs so I am mentioning it but the hotel has so much to offer and makes you feel like you are stepping a bit into the past so it is not necessary. Lobby and common rooms have fireplaces, board games are available as well. Hope to visit again soon!

We were instantly greeted at the door upon arrival. The gentleman who welcomed us was so polite. He explained several things about the property and offered us to come back after dinner to stroll around the property and down to the beach. We took him up on it and we were handed a flashlight, towels and when we returned we were showed to the fireplace for warming. We felt so special our whole trip.

Cozy Honeymoon

We really loved staying here for our honeymoon.
The whole experience was very peaceful, quiet and cozy. The building itself was amazing to stay in, such a well preserved piece of history.
The room had stunning views, was so comfortable and very clean!
Staff were very kind and always made sure everything we needed was there.
Had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, which was delicious. Very helpful and accommodating for food sensitivities.
One of our favourite things to do was to relax by the fireplace.
Can’t wait for our next visit already!!

We loved this Inn! Impeccable staff, grand interior, lovely food/dining. We enjoyed having coffee in the library in the morning and reading before breakfast. A wonderful stay! My only minor note is that in the upstairs wing where we stayed, the walls are pretty thin so you can hear others.

Is definitely a place where you step back in time. The woodwork and the furniture are such an experience because it’s all very 1800s early 1900 setting. The preparation of the food and the presentation is absolutely wonderful. It is not your traditional motel it’s a hotel with a time stamped flare.

Location is amazing! Area beautiful. Staff great. Amenities are expensive. Dust hanging from fans. Windows are mouldy and ill fitting.
Furnishings are tired. Everything needs painting and TLC. Outside pathways are pitch black. There is a balance between historic/romantic and safe/practical. Dalvay needs to find that balance.

Good scenic place. Need to focus more on deep cleaning, ac filter full of dust probably never cleaned, had to request cleaning as not good for allergies. Better idea have ac installed in windows as less noisy. Windows had spiders and other insects between panes, over all windows etc. need thorough deep cleaning. Rest of the room seemed ok in terms of cleaning.

I've always wanted to stay at Dalvay by the sea and splurged for my bday. Beautiful old property with lots of cachet and some updates to bring it to today's standards (portable AC, power bar to add outlets, etc.). No TV but WiFi was available. It was cold for mi-June so the fireplaces were lit which made it cozy with plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy a glass, a book or a board game. We splurged on a delicious breakfast the next day. Our room on the second floor was spacious and comfy with a king bed. Sadly the bed frame needed some TLC because our heads were lower than our feet.

Dalvay By The Sea overnight

A very pleasant single night stay in a place of historic origins. All staff we encountered were friendly, very attentive and knowledgeable about the history of the building, its original builders and past residents. Experiencing a century's step back in time within the original decor and ambiance and \"old school\" service was an extremely refreshing change from typical hotels. Being early in the summer season, we found the beach was nearly deserted for a late morning walk.
Not to be missed if you have the opportunity, even if just for a refreshment or a meal. Reserve well ahead (months, not weeks) if you intend to stay during peak times.

Staying at Dalvay was a dream 40 years in the making and it did not disappoint! The property is as idyllic as the setting. The rooms are well-appointed and the common areas are as cozy as home, with a crackling fire burning all day. The staff are clearly passionate about what they do. This property was once an amazing home for a wealthy family. It is 100+ years old and still very impressive but it should be a museum or a restaurant not a hotel. It is in very poor rundown condition. There are no elevators which is hard if you are put on the third floor. In the room, there are no coffee makers, no mini fridge, no clock, no tv, no ac. Paint is peeling on all the woodwork, difficult to open the door as the rug is higher than the door bottom. Ice machine was broken, hot water takes 10 minutes of running the tap. Any renos that were once done were done on the cheap not consistent with the original quality that the house was built. The bed was comfortable.
The staff was very nice. It was a big disappointment. This place could be made great but sadly it is not.

Like stepping back in time

From the moment we stepped into the hotel we were greeted and taken care of by David and his team. The hotel is like stepping back in time to the type of inn you see in the movies, beautiful woodwork, classic styling and roaring fireplaces in the library and front entry. Whether enjoying tea and coffee in the morning of a glass of wine in the evening you don't even want to leave. Quiet, elegant and an excellent restaurant all on property.

Pre-season visit for rest and relaxation.

Lots of history. Weather was not the greatest so any trip to the beach or outside activities were little to none. There are no televisions - so games, a laptop or other technology would be useful if trying to pass time or occupy the littles (if any). I was surprised there were no face cloths. Sometimes this is all we need so would save on hand and bath towels.

Wonderful hotel on Prince Edward Island

The ambience was lovely, sitting in big comfortable chairs or sofas in front of a fire that was kept replenished with firewood all day and night. The setting is gorgeous. This was the most relaxing part of our trip. I could have stayed much longer. The staff went the extra mile to be helpful. The owner (operator) was most gracious.

The huge house is exceptional architecturally and recalls a past era of fine country living. The dining facilities and food are first rate;. the property is well kept and features its own lake ; broad verandahs overlook garden and croquet areas. The many rooms are comfortable and well decorated while varying greatly in size and view.. I will visit again and stay longer.

A return visit to Dalvay after many years proved you can’t go home again. Expecting a 4-5 star experience we were greeted with a third floor cold and drafty room (albeit with a view of the lake) and with a bed that the biggest bear must have slept in, and that left me clinging to the side lest I fall into the middle. My husband was greeted with a cold shower wake up after his golf round which he hasn’t needed in a while. Things were remedied to some extent by the intrepid Nettie who should be canonized and by Spencer who was efficient and solicitous. Housecoats would be a welcome addition as well as steps into the claw foot tub showers ( not for the faint of heart!!) The fires are warm the prices are high and the beach is beautiful

Delicious food. Oh the mussels were so yummy!! and the seafood chowder. Our room was lovely, with a view of the lake (and lots of Canada geese!). Lots of comfy sitting spaces indoors and out. The staff were all very well trained and made us feel really welcome

David managed to upgrade us to a cabin to accommodate allergy sensitivity. Were mere steps away from main building. Very private and quaint.
Staff in dining room were very friendly and meal didn’t disappoint.
Not much of anything else near the property as it is located within a Provincial Park.

This hotel may not be for everyone as it is Historical. There are no elevators or modern rooms and washrooms. There is also no TV or clocks on site. It is a great place to stay. Rooms are large. All of the staff will go the extra to ensure you are happy. On-site restaurant is reasonably priced with great food. We would definitely stay heard again

The property has old world charm and most of the staff, particularly diningroom staff, was friendly and accommodating.
There was no sound suppression between rooms. Our room needed some attention by the maintenance and cleaning staff such as dust and debris behind the furniture and the drapes couldn't be closed properly.
When checking out, we were not asked how our stay was. We saw two members of upper manager without masks in the lobby and library breakfast area while the guests and staff were required to be masked.
We do want to emphasize that the diningroom staff was friendly and accommodating.

Staff appears as tired as the facility.

This was the first time I not asked about my stay at checkout. The hotel is not really guest centric. Closing the restaurant without informing guests is another example. This is important as the location is in the middle of nowhere. A heads up would have been appreciated. Rooms are very tiny and dark.

This beautiful 1895 Inn is a beautiful walk in history. The staff are amazing. Food was fantastic. The provincial beach is the best on the island.

We stayed for two nights, and our first evening dinner was fantastic! Both the food and service was incredible. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. The service at breakfast the next morning was terrible. It was so bad that the table behind us left after waiting 40 minutes for their food, which only showed after they left. Later that day, we ordered a charcuterie board, and it came without any crackers or napkins.

Don't bother getting a room with a 'view'. Our view was only accessible via a tiny window, which had a noisy portable AC unit attached.

The front lawn is covered in goose feces, so you cannot sit and enjoy the view there either.

Overall, a very disappointing experience. We will not be back.

The hotel staff were very friendly, the room was clean, the atmosphere of the hotel was perfect for a couple’s get away, the food in the restaurant was delicious and the location by the bike trail and beach was great. The hotel is having a bit of a challenge with geese on the property but they did not bother us while we were there.

This is a beautiful Inn by the beautiful beach. Loved the room with our view of the raging water. Loved the friendly staff that were always accommodating with giving a blanket, putting a log on the fire or making a drink in a special way just for me!!! Would defiantly go back.

What a serene lovely place to stay! My husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and just loved it there! Across the street from. The ocean, a view on the lake property were breathtaking! Great place to walk or just relax on the chairs outside with our glass of wine! Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming or friendly!

Property looked nice from a distance. Cost $32 to enter the area. Room on 3rd floor no elevator. Room had no Tv, no Coffee maker, no telephone, no radio, just 2 chairs, one bed one dresser one small window. Bathroom very small with no shelves, no hooks for clothing to hang. Next day no bed made, no new towels, no room service at all. View from window in room 19 showed exterior damage on next door dormer, missing shingles. Staff friendly, Food very over-priced. $26 for one porkchop with one scoop of potato and one beet cut into 4. Advertised price $214 was charged $219 / night. This place badly needs new management.
