I booked private villa with a private pool, beach side. Instead, I was put in villa right next to a big construction site. I was woken every day at 8:00 AM by clanging, banging and all the noises a construction site make. I wanted to enjoy peace in my private garden and listen to sound of ocean and nature, instead I got zero peace and heard only construction work, both near pool and near beach. At time of booking or arrival, there was no mention of construction work.
Instead of destressing on vacation, I got super stressed. Asked for a new villa, was told they are fully booked until I leave. After contacting Expedia I was given a new villa for last day only.
I asked hotel for compensation, but they have refused to take accountability for this situation, which I find incredible and not at the industry standard of a 5* resort.

We stayed in Room 519 (Beach Villa with Swirl Pool). Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to our previous visit.
The swirl pool was under heavy shade, making the water very cold and unusable — especially in December. There is no heating function, so we never used it. Last year, we stayed in an overwater villa, and the swirl pool was in direct sunlight, making it enjoyable even at night.
Food quality was disappointing this time. Breakfast and lunch options were repetitive, and on several occasions the chicken was undercooked and vegetables were not properly prepared. Some dishes also seemed off. The only positive was that desserts changed daily, which was nice.
For an all-inclusive resort, the beverage offering was very limited. Many cocktails, mocktails, iced coffees, and even hot chocolate were frequently out of stock at both pools.
Entertainment was also limited. Activities like go-karting and jet skis were excluded, despite being marketed as part of the resort experience.
Overall, this stay did not match our previous experience or the expectations of a premium all-inclusive resort.

The Rooms were great. The buffet was not 5 star with little bespoke cooking as per other resorts ive been to in Maldives.
Male staff mostly seem disinterested and slow. Females are great. Smoke, staff and food was great.
Entertainment bsnds were average to poor . Philippino duo however were excellent.
Management never seem to interact with guests. Seemed aloof .

People should know the full picture before booking Kandima, because the low price can be misleading. To get there, you need a domestic flight arranged by the hotel, costing $450 USD per person. Commercial flights exist, but their schedules don’t match well, and you still have to take a bus and boat afterward. For the return, they almost always book the 6am flight, so expect to be leaving your room at 3am, losing valuable vacation time.

The island looks nice, but the service was frustrating. Staff smile, but they also entered our room without warning—even with the Do Not Disturb sign up—and called us multiple times for unimportant reasons. The water is pretty, but the beach is extremely rocky, especially by the Aqua Villas, and the lagoon is so shallow that you can barely get past your knees.

There’s only one small market, and the restaurants are very expensive, with everything in USD. Since you have no other dining options, they take advantage of it. We experienced constant attempts to charge extra, from tips already included to ignoring discounts unless we insisted.

My honest advice: choose a resort closer to Malé. It might cost more initially, but you’ll avoid the travel hassle and likely have a better stay.

There’s a clear reason why Kandima is cheaper than many other resorts in the Maldives, and future guests should be aware of it. Getting to the island requires a domestic flight arranged by the hotel, which costs $450 USD per person and is the cheapest option available. Commercial flights exist, but the schedules are inconvenient and still require a bus + boat transfer afterward. At checkout, the hotel usually books guests on the 6am flight, meaning you have to leave your room around 3am, losing part of your last day.

The island itself is pretty, but the service is disappointing. Staff smile constantly, but they also enter rooms unexpectedly—even with the Do Not Disturb sign on—and call guests for unnecessary reasons. The water is clear, but the beach is extremely rocky, especially near the Aqua Villas, and the water is so shallow (knee-deep) that swimming isn’t really possible.

There’s only one market, and the restaurants are very pricey, with everything charged in USD. There are also ongoing attempts to charge extra, from unnecessary tips (already included in the bill) to avoiding pre-applied discounts unless you ask.

If you’re considering the Maldives, I strongly suggest choosing a resort closer to Malé. It may cost more upfront, but it will save time, reduce stress, and likely offer a better overall experience.

So the room was perfect and the views were unmatched! The weakness of the facility is their need to nickel and dime their guests at every corner with non-included things all over the island despite me being all inclusive. The next weakness was the staff apart from one fantastic bartender Rasel which I loved, many of the hospitality staff weren’t very friendly on top of the buffet area the tables were not kept clean and was often hard to find a place to sit. As far as the dining establishments go I felt the food was subpar for a place of its quality with many things not appearing on the menu that were advertised. Finally I was unable to make a single snorkel trip with them always being cancelled due to possible storms even on the best days.

Would have been 5 stars but there was a huge negative for us. We had paid for full board however of the 2 restaurants included one was closed for refurbishment. This meant every lunch and dinner we had to drag our 2 kids (one is 8 months old) to the other end of the island. Can either get a buggy or walk. Depending on how lucky you get with timing this could be 15-20mins on either option. A walk that far with 2 kids prams was unpleasant in the heat too!

The staff in Kandiland were good as was Laizan the bus driver (apologies name likely incorrectly spelt!). He was great with our son.

The staff was great and very accommodating. The rooms are nice and clean, they even have a Nespresso machine. We loved the breakfast at Zest, however, the food in the outlets was overpriced and average at best. There are plenty of activities, especially for kids, we loved the live entertainment at the bar at night.
One thing we did not like was the smoking policy. Everywhere we went, people smoked, whether it was at the pools, the bar or the restaurant. Very annoying.

Kandima is one of the several resorts but we liked the family friendliness of this resort. Does this place have the activities that an all inclusive in the Carribean has, probably not but it is a still a quiet place to spend maybe 4-5 days. Not too many dining options. And ironically the restaurants are only open in the evenings. For the price + all inclusive option, expected a bit more. Hence giving only 4 stars.

A Stunning Island with Room for Improvement – Honest Review of Kandima Maldives

We recently stayed at Kandima Maldives and, while the island itself is absolutely stunning and the surroundings nothing short of paradise, there were unfortunately several aspects of our stay that left us feeling disappointed – especially considering the amount we spent.

Let’s start with the positives:
The setting is truly breathtaking – turquoise waters, white sands, and beautifully maintained grounds. Our accommodation was comfortable and well-designed, and the staff were generally friendly and professional. The food was delicious, with a good variety across restaurants, and the resort offered a good mix of activities and relaxation.

However, as beautiful as the island is, there are definitely areas where Kandima falls short – especially when it comes to value for money and customer experience.

Firstly, everything is priced without tax and service charges. You’ll be quoted a price, but then a 10% tax and a non-negotiable 16% service charge are added on top – which means you’re paying an additional 26% on everything. This significantly inflates costs.

We were on a bed and breakfast package and in hindsight, we really should have opted for all-inclusive. Prices on the island are extortionate – $9 for a Coke, $9++ for a beer, and simple lunches or dinners quickly rack up. We ended up spending close to $3,000 just on food and drinks over the course of our stay. When we enquired about switching

They don’t communicate at all with each other for anything meaning we payed all exclusive for a bungalow on the water, they charged us for everything and anything the food made me sick for 2 days. The only thing that was good was the fruit! That’s it! What we payed for was suppose to everything included Then when we showed our email explaining why are we paying so much more money when you didn’t say anything about nothing included on your website they said things were our fault that we didn’t get an email, instead of taking responsibility how poor the staff and service was. Our last day They also made us check out in the morning came to our room unannounced when me and my fiancé were still sleeping so we had a rush to get everything out because they messed up our flight info going back to the airport again also said was our fault and lied saying they don’t talk with the airport when they do check out was not until noon. Very disappointed we will NEVER BE COMING BACK! They definitely did not like Americans we were being followed around and nobody else was. Very uncomfortable frustrated experience this was not a cheap vacation instead of enjoying we were stressed out. Not right did nothing to make things right. Please don’t waste your time and money coming here.

First off, the beach is rocky in most areas and if you do decide to get in the water you will most likely get stung. Another main issue I had was the bugs. Now I seen they do spray most of the area with something to keep them away but I had my whole body covered in stings by the end of my trip. Another thing is I came here for my honeymoon and they didn't take that into consideration at all. Even though we discussed it and they told me about how I have the honeymoon package. DO NOT GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON. Next is the food, terrible. Everytime you try to book somewhere they make it such a difficult process to book at the restaurants. I've been to multiple different countries but this one was the most disappointing of all and I think it was because of this resort I chose. The entertainment at night is pretty boring. And you only have a couple things to eat. The breakfast buffet was good. Right when we arrived they made us waste almost 6 hours in the lobby. They didn't even take us into consideration and kept ignoring us. I didn't pay thousands of dollars to get treated this way. Terrible experience, DO NOT recommend at all. If you are thinking of coming here, don't. Also be ready to spend another 2k just on food. The restaurants are usually a very long walk away and the transportation takes so long to get there. We waited in the airport for so long. Also the boat to get there is a very risky ride. Water getting all over your things. The pool closes very very early as well.

Our AC was broken and did not get fixed until the fourth day and third attempt. Once it was fixed, no question whether it was fixed or not was asked. Hence, no compensation was offered which is not a pleasant service, especially given the fact that 3/4 got sick due to the AC.

Service with restaurant bookings can absolutely be improved as they are not effective and most restaurants have empty tables every evening.

Our best vacations ever! The hotel was incredible, with many activities do have fun. The food was super good and the staff was the kindest and most friendly we have ever met in a hotel. We spend our honeymoon here and the extras we got for this were super cute, specially the couples massage. The food was super tasty and to be honest this was quite surprising as “all inclusive” packages then to be quite average, but in this hotel every detail is a different level, and food was just amazing. The staff … dont know even where to start… they were just so nice, helpful, super polite and friendly… we really felt super sad to have leave the hotel and all the amazing people that contributed to our best holidays ever. The hotel is set on a beautiful natural island, there was sand everywhere, even in reception which added the vibe.
We had to wait in reception, in the sweltering heat for 40 mins before we could go to our room. The service was so slow and painful.
I had previously been emailing the hotel to book the seaplane and organise a room upgrade half was through the holiday to surprise my wife for her birthday. I didn’t get a reply half the time and only just managed to book the seaplane in time.
At check in I tried to explain this when my wife wasn’t around, they then spoilt the surprise by announcing how much the upgrade would cost in front of my wife. I was so annoyed.

When we checked into the beach studio, we were underwhelmed. Apart from the beautiful view of the beach, it felt very basic and not at all luxury.

When we did finally upgrade to the over water villa with swirl pool, it felt much nicer. I wish we had stayed there the entire trip.
But that being said, the shower head was broken, the swirl pool kept turning on by itself and the room felt tired and worn.

The food was okay. Nothing amazing. There were cafes which mainly had cakes - I wish they have more salads or healthy sandwiches for lunch.
The kids club was good - my son enjoyed going and had fun. Staff there were fantastic.
When we left, the hotel booked us on a ridiculously early seaplane without telling us until 9pm the night before, so that made our journey home very long and tiring.

Oh My God!!! This place was literally PARADISE! My wife and I were just there in November for our honeymoon and we loved every single minute that we spent there! From arriving and being greeted by the amazing stafff at the dock with fresh beverages to our breathtaking over water villa. The views were incredible, the food was amazing, the staff was perfect and so helpful, there were so many activities to do and the atmosphere was fantastic! We went snorkeling off of our deck every day and eventually went deep water snorkeling with the group. The banana boat ride was a RUSH and so much fun especially because we got to go alone. We were there during Halloween week so the property decorated the grounds, had themes at every corner, scary movies on the beach and a small performance too. I give this property and experience a perfect 10/10 because I can’t think of a single thing that could’ve been better, I would just tell people coming from the USA to be prepared for a loooong trip to PARADISE!

This place is absolutely stunning. Clear blue water, plenty of sea life and lot of activities for kids of all age. The staff here are very approachable and greet the guest with a smile. The rooms are clean and bed is equipped with best mattress you can get. Our family had an absolute cracking time even though it’s rained a lot on one of the days. The staff arranged lot of indoor activities for the kids, which allowed the grown up to have a great time as well. We stayed 5 night but I would recommend at least 7 days or more. You will never get tired of majestic view and serene deep blue water. I would rate our stay more 5 stars!. Rest assured, we will be back here again!

Wonderful place, large island and so is the resort. Everything perfect during our 9 day holiday from the food, to the activities, to the cleanliness and the room. We had a water villa and I recommend everyone to try the experience of sleeping on the water and overlooking the turquoise sea of the Maldives. However, the thing that made the difference for us was the staff; always kind, smiling, thoughtful, attentive to the customer's needs but never intrusive. Truly a pleasant surprise. Excellent service staff when it comes to regular service that they are used to do, but inflexible in special circumstances. E.g there was a night with heavy rain & lightning and there is a rather long walk back to our room unsheltered. We tried to ask for transport back to room seeing how their vehicles are able to ride on the platform when ferrying luggages so it should be something doable. However, they refused saying they don't offer buggy service to rooms. While we understand that it is not something that is normally offered, we thought they be more flexible. It was a dangerous walk back, we couldn't hold up our umbrellas too as the wind was too strong.

During our stay, we fell sick but was very lucky to meet a very kind and helpful doctor at the medical centre. She helped us to recover quickly so that we can get back to our daily activities.

Appreciated the daily activities schedule where we can partake in various free exercises and yoga. Although for some classes, instructor's punctuality can be an issue. Referring to classes not held by the gym or yoga instructor.

1 of us is vegetarian so glad to have quite a variety of options. Though would like to suggest for an improvement in the cooking of fish, it was almost always overcooked.

This was our honeymoon and the experience was truly amazing. I unfortunately did experience food poisoning from the lamb chops after a dinner on the beach which caused me to be so sick the last full day and the plane ride home which took over 20 hours. Our fridge didn’t work as well but the staff was outstanding to get me ice whenever I needed it. We stayed on the bungalow and it was perfect! Lots of walking but we truly had the best time there !!!!!

Loved everything, staff was very nice. They offer activities and a lot of complementary things. However, food is only available at the restaurants and cost a pretty penny (I would plan to spend a lot on food). Also the island/property is pretty big and golf carts are needed for transportation so you’re stuck waiting for them most of the time. They should have more carts circulating around. Other than that everything was great. Don’t forget to take water shoes, the beach is rocky.

Beautiful island but definitely not a 5 star hotel. AC in rooms didn’t work. Called 5 times and they were unable to fix the issue. Explained AC was an issue though out the property. Highly under staffed and food was average at best. Pools were dirty and water was incredibly hot. Apparently the chiller was an issue with the pool too. If you’re looking for a cheap option this is good but you get what you pay for.

By far the most engaging and friendly staff I've ever met especially the folks in the Flavour restaurant. Everyone was so kids friendly and always engaging nicely with our kids.
On the other hand I think compared to other 5 star hotels we've visited, Kandima lacks the excellence especially when it comes to quality of beverages/food (and don't get me wrong the food was nice but not 5-star nice). I personally found the price for fresh coconuts ~6 USD ridiculous as this is the only thing that grows everywhere on the island.
The location itself is amazing, beach is picturesque and looks amazing on Instagram as well as the perfect sandbox for babies and toddlers.
If say Kandima is great but definitely not 5 star when it comes to quality and excellence.

This resort was amazing. Mostly very friendly and knowledgable staff. Food was amazing, especially at the buffet when Chef Vijay was in the kitchen. easy to get around by foot and also has a free shuttle and bikes for rent. Only reason i didnt give a full 5 stars is because of a handful of staff who were less than friendly and helpful, but overall everyone will go above and beyond to make you smile at this resort, woud go back!

The location is a paradise, the size of the Island is perfect , you can have a walk but it takes 40 minutes to walk through which is making the experience wonderfull . The food is great and the service staff top (hussein, song, anita )

Kandima Maldives Experience

A great anniversary trip. Greater by hotel at airport with sign. If taking water plane, make sure luggage total 20kg per person. Additional charges may apply. Over the water bungalow just like photos. Limited food and drinks were great with DAI package. Tropical area. May rain a little but weather was still 80 plus degrees. This was a trip for the books!

The place was ok. It more of a 3 star property than 5*. Staff do there best to accomadate and the chef. I hated the beach. It not smooth at all. It was rubbish. It had to much shells. Yes it was white. Pic from far make it look amazing. But close up not that great. All insclusve drink are all water down juice. Not the real thing. Pools are nice and bar area good. Restaurants are good with plenty to choose from. Another I had was the swirl pool are cold so I difficult to use at night time. It was ok but the best.

2/5 stay - I was expecting a splendid stay for end of the year and my post birthday, but it turned out so suckish!

While the resort was very pretty, the experience was super bad right from the start of my stay. First the seaplane was delayed then cancelled and they didn’t inform us until we asked about the delay. Next when we arrived at the resort, when we wanted to book the restaurants to have our meals, the receptionists said everything was full and we could not even get any places to eat. Then it was the same with the spas and it was so hard trying to get the availabilities. Food was also just average and not spectacular especially the new year eve dinner which costed $300 US. Lastly their app and their schedules were all not synced properly - we booked the schedules and the receptionist insisted there weren’t the schedules when it was printed on the paper and we booked for it. Overall, the receptionists and their services failed us as they didn’t know what’s happening, restaurants failed us as they insist they were full when the restaurants looked empty (I had photo proof), spa was rushing thru the massages but the staff at Aquaholics was so super friendly and accommodating which saved the day!

Overall I would not recommend this accommodation until they sorted out their service standards particularly the receptionists and their IT app deliveries.

Superb resort for families! We got a 5 star service from start to finish. No complaints what so ever. Kids club was great for the little ones. The entire team at Kandima were amazing everywhere, they were always friendly, warm and made us very comfortable. The Spa was amazing and so was all the amenities. Would recommend this resort to all with out My doubt.
