Amazing staff. I unfortunately had my phone stolen upon arrival and when i checked in and mentioned it to the reception. Joseph immediately offered to walk me to the last pinged location and even walked me to the police station and explained the situation to the officers for me through the language barrier. On top of that the room was nice and comfortable and in an amazing location, perfectly close to everything.

I can not say enough good things about this hotel and our 16-day stay!

Giuseppe and the other front desk staff went out of their way to help, provide recommendation and help when my husband got sick. Thank you so much!

Many folks have commented about the stairs. But the climb (there are 67 to be exact) may leave you breathless, but is to be expected given the age of the building and we opted for the stairs to be SO centrally located. We walked EVERYWHERE during our stay and found it easy to navigate. It's about a 20-minute way to the train station and so easy to get to ALL the museums and the view of the Duomo (from our room as well as the rooftop terrace) make the climb SO worthwhile.

We found the shower to be small, but also discovered that this is often the case in Italy and it was workable. I appreciated the bidet and the heated towel rack and the ability to open both the bathroom and bedroom windows.

The rooms are good sized, but a little dated. No big deal for us.

We appreciated the coffee, juice and water machines as well as the morning cookies and being greeted with bubbly upon our arrival.

Thanks Giuseppe and the whole crew for making our time so memorable.

Room was good and location was great everything was walking distance. It’s outside a very lively area of town so keep that in mind if you want a quiet place. However noise is super suppressed since we are on the 3rd floor. Overall a great stay and the included coffee and juice machine was a big win.

Petit hôtel surprenante, dans tous les sens du terme… Positif: La location est géniale: près du Duomo, le rapport qualité/prix est bon, l’accueil est chaleureux et très cordial, la terrasse est super, les chambres sont propres, on peut se servir du café et des jus à volonté jour et nuit.

Les moins: 67 marches à monter dans un escalier peu invitant (merci de l’aide pour monter les bagages), le mobilier date, l’insonorisation entre les chambres est minimale (merci pour les bouchons offerts gracieusement), pas de personnel durant la nuit (merci pour les indications claires en cas d’urgence).

En un mot: hôtel correct qui s’apparente plus à une auberge de jeunesse. Ceux qui aiment le genre, avec des moyens financiers limités, seront plus que satisfaits.

This place was great! Pretty centrally located for all the tours, about a 15 minute walk to anywhere you want to go. Staff was excellent! So helpful wherever I needed help or just had questions about Florence. Nice little breakfast area so you can have coffee and a baked good. Only downside was no elevator and it’s on the third floor so there’s stairs but what can you expect from a build built in the 1600s.

If I ever come back this will be the hotel for me

The staff were super helpful and informative.

You really need to know that the three flights of stairs with no lift is hard work with a suitcase! Staff did offer but we thought we’d be okay (we made it but only just)!
I’d only put one guest on the booking by mistake but luckily they could accommodate us both and didn’t charge any extra. So helpful and gave us lots of tips about where was safe and the main attractions.

The room itself is basic but it’s good for a base to get your head down.
The roof terrace (up more steps) is small but has a fantastic view.

Although there was no hot water (an issue they were working on), as we were only booked in for two nights we chose to stay even though they offered us to cancel with no penalty. Honestly it was so hot out that a cool shower was perfect anyway. The staff were so kind, friendly and helpful that I would recommend staying here to anyone.
Secondary, the location is absolutely perfect. Close to everything you’d want to see.

The staff are fantastic and were always a pleasure to interact with.
The location is right in the historic district so most historic landmarks and shopping are easily within a 15-20 minute walk. It’s also similar distance to the train station.
There are quite a bit of stairs and no elevator, but you are staying in a historic building, so we understood this. The rooms are somewhat dated and the colour scheme could use an update, but again, it’s a historic building and we weren’t there to see the colour scheme of the hotel room.
The 360 degree, unobstructed view from the rooftop terrace, was phenomenal. It was the best place to have a nightcap at end our day!

The hotel was very disappointing, it was on the third floor of the building with no lift access. The entrance was dimly lit and the staircase narrow and gloomy.. There are no staff present over night from 2200-0800. This meant checking out with no receptionist.
The room was small, furniture dated and my room was immediately next to the reception and main entrance 3 metres away. As a consequence, extremely noisy with people coming back late and the hotels answer was to provide earplugs!
The air conditioning was temperamental.
Extremely noisy bar and restaurant immediately below with lots of people sitting and drinking on the streets.
I regret staying here, and would not recommend to others.

This isn’t a luxury hotel. It’s a comfortable, small hotel with extraordinarily kind staff who really want you to enjoy Florence. If you are looking for authenticity you will be surrounded by small bars, cafes and restaurants run by actual Florentines - and you will probably have a better time than if you stayed in someplace that cost twice as much. We loved every minute of it - and particularly the staff, who were wonderful.

This hotel is located just about 5 minutes walking distance to Duma. Nice location. Warm hospitality and very helpful, great assistance with bringing our luggage up and down the stairs .
Even though this hotel doesn’t have elevator and it is on 3 floors!!!!! At night, all the young generation party in this area and it is very lively.

The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the people were extremely kind and the location was wonderful. There are three very steep flights of stairs up to the hotel with no elevator. No in room, coffee or safe. There rooftop bar a great view but it is a joke. They kept saying that they had just reopened. We booked based on the ratings. It was terrible.

With that said, the location was wonderful just off a little square with plenty of restaurants and wonderful coffees. It did not disappoint our trip. But it took everything we had not to move hotels. And by the way, it was nonrefundable so it would’ve been $2000 right now. I would advise you not stay here, especially if you’re older and the stairs are problematic.

Clean but a bit run down. The room has not been updated for a long time. This is the first time I have ever booked a room that did not have soap for the shower. The cord to the hair dryer had bare wires showing. The remote for the heat did not work properly. Staff really tried hard to make things fright but it was not possible. Staff at reception excel in customer service. They carry your luggage up the stairs for you arriving and leaving the hotel. They have the option to store your luggage if you arrive early and if you have a late flight out . The terrace is beautiful for photos. All three guys who rotated at reception in our short stay where very friendly and helpful. Rooms where clean and the AC was awesome for the hot weather .

This place is a dump and that’s a complement, bugs in the bed, toilet keep sticking and not flushing, I could stand in the center of the room and touch the walls on both sides of the room.
If your booking like I did due to the photos, it’s a scam photography, 3 flights of very narrow steep stairs to get to the front desk.
Avoid unless you want to be unpleasantly surprised.
The best thing this hotel has going for it is prime location!

Location, location, location…Hotel Cardinal is steps away from Duomo and easy walking distance to most of Florence’s major sights. There is a roof top terrace that provides a view of Florence. There are plenty of dining choices and shopping nearby. The staff are very helpful. The property is a three storey walk up with no lift available - not necessarily a bad thing unless you are mobility challenged then this property is not a good choice. The Bathroom has space enough for a larger shower - the tiny shower box installed is unacceptable for a hotel standard. The Toilet is crowded by the Vanity Sink. A rethink on Bathroom appliance arrangement is needed.

The hotel definitely needs some upgrading. Our bathroom shower head would not even stand up on the wall by it’s own so we had to hold it to angle the water down. The bathroom was also very tiny where it was hard to dry off from the shower while trying to maneuver so you don’t hit the toilet and/or bidet. The staff were all extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast was all fine for our standards as we are not a huge breakfast family to begin with. Would be nice if we were able to get coffee earlier than 8 am or even later in the afternoon for free. Location was good and walkable. I am familiar with Florence so was able to find our way easily. Overall the hotel was fine for our stay but I would give another hotel a try next time

It is the most incredible boutique type hotel. The owner is amazing. He met us at the entrance and carried our bags to the room. He was there all day and night to help us and answer our questions. The room was great. It is so close to everything. Food, entertainment, the whole experience is just down the road. It’s a 20 euro cab ride from the train station. The mini bar is so cheap. 1 euro water, 3 euro beer. Just ask if you want more at front desk. Breakfast was amazing and only 8 euro. The rooftop is incredible, you can see the whole city. Grab a drink and just sit up there and see the amazing g city. End of our trip he carried out bags down, walked us to the street down the block and waited with us for a cab, loaded our luggage into the cab and wished us the best. We only stayed for two nights, but we should’ve stayed a week. If you’re looking for a place in Florence to be in the center of everything and have a wonderful experience with great people. This is the place to be.

The location, room, amenties, terrace, breakfast, staff and all other things were excellent. The hotel is located on the 3rd floor and we had heavy luggages but the staff was so helpful that they carried all our luggages up and down. Also they informed us about everything we need. There was very little choice for our price range at the time of booking but we picked this hotel on the basis of it’s location, which didn’t disappoint. It’s a 20 min walk from the train station & the cathedral is just around the corner. We also had a lovely view from our room. The staff were lovely, welcoming & accommodating. The room was unfortunately very small & the decor very dated, but was comfortable enough. The fridge could have been less rammed with products that you had to pay for so that we could fit our own food and drinks in. Would definitely recommend getting a take away pizza from one of the many restaurants close by & enjoying it up on the roof terrace, views of Florence for days!

The hosts of this place were nice and kind but I think the name \"hotel\" seems not appropriate. I would call it \"Bed&breakfast\".
The room and bathroom were very small and needed some painting. The exterior of the building was awful and you had to climb many narrow stairs to get to the small lobby.
The TV didn't have channels in English and the coffee maker in the room didn't work.
The hosts were very supportive and gave me breakfast to take away, gesture that I appreciated it.

Could have been a great stay

My husband and I spent 3 nights here as part of our honeymoon. On the night of our arrival, the most kind employee checked us in after hours and carried our bags up the many stairs. I wish I could remember his name, but he was wonderful! There was some construction during our stay, and someone in management gave us free drinks and apologized for the construction, even though it was not his fault and out of his control. We really liked these 2 staff members. However, the 3rd staff member we interacted with couldn’t have been more rude. On our final night the air conditioning was broken and the staff member gave us the most sarcastic apology. Then, during check out on October 1st, the same employee asked if we removed anything from the room and gave us a lecture on honesty even though we didn’t remove anything other than our own belongings. He also made a very large deal about the fact that we didn’t have cash to pay the city tax, which we weren’t told we would need. He lectured us about this as well and said it was the first time in 5 years someone paid by card. A real shame, because everyone else at the hotel couldn’t have been nicer.

Property is well located and walkable to all Florence has to offer. Staff is nice and very helpful. Breakfast was good. The room itself was very small and dated plus thin walls so I could hear the next door guest conversations. The hotel is on a 4 floor walk up so if you have big luggage or mobility issues avoid it. It is located in historic zone so if you’re driving don’t drive up to front door or police will ticket you. Instead have your car parked in a garage a block away. The roof top is much more impressive in the pictures and accessible only by a narrow stairway.

Hotel Cardinal was exactly as advertised, clean and tidy with friendly staff. Room was functional and spacious (we got upgraded to a king bed as we were there 4 nights) but the best part was the rooftop terrace, where we spent all our time at the hotel except when we were sleeping or showering. With views I’d the Duomo and all surrounding area it was magnificent. Great for breakfast or a nightcap!

Aside from the stairs- which are not to be underestimated- this place is a gem. Location is great and Marco, at the front desk, was amazing. Like others mentioned, they did carry our bags up and then down the stairs. On Thursday nights, the street seems to be a college “hang out” but they don’t get loud- just crowded. The restaurant across the street is delicious too.

Very centrally located and exceptionally helpful and friendly staff! Rooms were clean and comfortable- it’s not a 4 star hotel but you’re in Florence, so you shouldn’t need to be spending much time at your hotel anyway!

The service and location were perfect. Service in particular. Also close to everything.

However the hotel had an exercise room advertised on Orbitz. There was none. This was misleading and, I suspect, due to Orbitz.

I would recommend the vital given its value and a spectacular terrace.

The stairs were high so older or infirm guests might wish to avoid

Staff very helpful. Booked skip the line at uffuzzi for me.
There was a noise issue at the hotel which they corrected without being asked.

Location is short walk to almost v every major site. Sound proof windows worked pretty well.

Very nice hotel, room was spacious and always clean. Front desk staff was very helpful and the location of the hotel is close to many Florence sights. The rooftop terrace was a beautiful extra, the view is gorgeous and perfect to unwind after a long day. Just keep in mind that the hotel is located on top floor of a building with no elevator, so as long as you don't mind and are able to walk 3 flights of stairs then this is a great stay. (Also the staff WILL help you carry your luggage up and down the stairs) My mother and I would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is very charming. The location is good; and the staff is extremely pleasant and helpful, going out of their way to accommodate every need and answer every question.
The only drawback is that the hotel is on the third floor with no elevator; however, the staff is always eager to carry baggage up and down the steps.

Rooms were clean and pretty. The bed was very comfortable. Location was good and it was quiet. The rooftop was beautiful. What really made the stay extra enjoyable was the outstanding friendly staff. I’ve been traveling for 3 weeks through Italy and this hotel was my favorite.

Fantastic staff who were super helpful. Amazing location in the heart of Florence. Beautiful roof top terrace with magical views. There are steps up to this hotel, so don't book here if you can't do stairs! Staff will get your luggage for you.

Staff are amazing...So welcoming and helpful. Good location in florence.
Only downside is 3 flights of stairs but staff will take up luggage or bsgs when you arrive and depart. Would recomend to anyone visiting florence.

Prime location; Mario’s hospitality and excellent customer service made us feel at home. He is constantly running around to provide the best experience to the guests, not only as far as the stay is concerned but also in making the trip special with advice, touristic tips and how to get around the city. We would definitely stay at Cardinal Hotel again in a future visit to Florence.
