Great stop near Newgrange

Had a lovely overnight stop on our way north. Room was spotless - a little crowded with luggage. Excellent dinner in Gastropub & nice breakfast in elegant dining room.

Lovely hotel, small rooms.

The hotel is a lovely old building and very well appointed. Our room was so small we could find anywhere to put our suitcases. When we complained we were given a slightly bigger room. The staff were great and very helpful. We had to leave early and they arranged for a light breakfast.

An absolute MUST STAY if you're in Ireland

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Scholar's Townhouse Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the Old World Look of the Hotel. Although the rooms are very small, we could not have asked for a better place to stay. In deciding where to have dinner, there was no place better than the Restaurant at Scholar's. The Restaurant which has won the last 5 years in a row the prestigious Restaurant/Hotel Award was enough to convince us. We also noticed several people (assuming locals) come in to dine that were obviously not staying at the Hotel. Obviously a favorite place to dine. The food was incredible and delicious. I had the Lamb Shank special and my wife had the Hake. Everything in the Hotel and Restaurant was beautifully decorated as well. The staff was more than accommodating and service was impeccable. Will definitely make a return trip!

Outstanding Hotel.

The Hotel from the start showed class from the booking in to the end.
We arrived early and the receptionist, immediately sorted rooms out for us, even changing a room from one with a bath to one with a shower (one of the group has walking difficulties.
The staff could not do enough for you and the food was like being on master chef. Breakfast was outstanding and the waitress service 2nd to none. The bar was well stocked with a vast verity of beer's, lagers and a great selection of whiskey's.

Locally the town is run down, but the Battle of the Boyne, visitors centre is not to the missed.

The rooms though small are well equipped, though the rest of the Hotel makes up for them.
Testament to the restaurant, steak night on a Wednesday, booking well recommended as again the meal was outstanding.
Well worth a visit!!

The food and service were both exceptional and the hotel is within walking distance from many attractions. I felt very welcomed by the family who owns and operates the hotel and enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel very much. Excellent-superlative value.

Nice hotel, remodeled from a former boys school. Good quiet downtown location - a little difficult to find as there no street signs. Great friendly & helpful staff. Room was bit on the small size. Overall, still a good place to stay.

We stayed two nights in Scholars Townhouse while we explored the Newgrange and other nearby area sites. Very comfortable, quiet room; nice bar and excellent food in the pub (they also have a restaurant).
But most of all, the staff was exceptionally accommodating (especially the manager Dev -- sorry if we got the name wrong), willing to help us in any way they could. The second morning, we left very early for the airport, and they put out a breakfast spread and coffee for us.

Total disgusting place, sheets were not changed bedding had human hairs on bed, plus sat down for meal another member staff came up and place reserve plaque on our table said it was reserved her attitude was so rude, their were other tables there with same amount of chairs only received apologies put on another table which u could not see ur meal it was so dark... never going back worse hotel I've ever been too. Imagine going to bed with sheets no been changed absolutely total disgusting.

A very comfortable stay at Scholars

We had booked one night bed and breakfast. We had thought we would have our evening meal in a restaurant in town but were so pleased with the decor (which is amazing), service and amenities at Scholars we just stayed there and had a very tasty meal in the bar/lounge. I had a hake dish and my wife had risotto - both were excellent, perfectly cooked and delicious.
The staff in this hotel are excellent, friendly without being overbearing, and obviously very well trained in all aspects of service. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
I think we got the last available room, No 104, which was fine if a little small overall. It was a comfortable night's sleep! And it was intriguing to hear the children playing and running around in the school playground that backs on to the hotel, which started around 8.30am and ceased entirely with the 9.00am bell!
Breakfast was excellent, a self service buffet to start and then waitress service for the main breakfast - with a very extensive choice. Again the breakfast staff were polite and professional.
We will certainly return to Scholars having now found this perfect stop off in Drogheda when travelling from the South to our home on the North Coast.

gorgeous hotel in the middle of Drogheda with comf

A fantastically beautiful place. Really even more impressed when I saw it in person. Extremely accommodating staff and front desk people. Gorgeous stained glass cathedral type windows in our room! Beautifully appointed four poster canopy bed with luxury linens.

Very difficult to find on Google maps so had to get directions from the hotel. The hotel supplied perfect directions.

A gem of a hotel

This was our second stay at the Scholars Hotel. We returned to Drogheda in order to stay there. The hotel is an oasis. The breakfasts are divine, and dinner in the bar was excellent .

We especially enjoyed the Bar Restaurant here. The atmosphere, decor and food are fantastic. Service excellent. Our room was depressing though. It was very dark with only two small stained glass windows with tiny opening panels. Don't accept room 115. Breakfast is excellent. Gardens beautiful

A mixed review! Great breakfast room - very elegant :-) Staff were brilliant too!
Sadly our room did have some faults especially in the bathroom. There was no curtain or blind at the window so no privacy. The windows were also very draughty. We know that the room was reasonably priced but would have expected hotel maintenance to have been a priority!

Hotel was lovely. Old and homely. Friendly staff.
Room basic and very small. Very handy to walk downtown..

Foo good but service needs a lift especially as they claim Michelin star quality. Ordered wine- wrong wine arrived- waiter poured (no tasting) and then put the cap back on bottle!(red!). Steaks arrived without sides...had to remind them.

The hotel is old but in good condition. Awesome breakfast in the morning. Very fast Wi-Fi connection. Very friendly staff. The room was clean but too dark. The main problem for me is that the hotel is far away from the train station and it is a long walk distance from bus station. you need a car or to take a taxi.

Arrived in Dublin Airport, wanting to visit Newgrange first. This was an excellent choice, since we didn't care to rent a car and drive. We took the bus to Drogheda, enjoyed the historic city, took the bus to Bru na Boine the next day. The Scholars Townhouse is a lovely site, with beautiful woodwork and paintings. The breakfast was the best we had in Ireland and the service at the reception was excellent! Will definitely recommend to others and hope to return!

A multi-sensory confection to be experienced

This is a former Christian Brothers' property in the heart of the town that has been done up lavishly. How much was there when the property was bought, and how much/many of the stained glass, oak panelling, friezes and ceiling paintings are recent additions, I don't know, but it's a multi-sensory confection that has to be experienced. It's the first time that I have eaten breakfast under a ceiling painting of Kings James and Billy facing each other prior to the Battle of the Boyne.

It's a boutique hotel constructed out of an old building, so the bedrooms are smaller than usual. The large bed pretty much filled the room, and the windows were high. The TV set, too, was high in a corner cabinet, so I needed to hold my arm up to point the remote at the right angle. The room would have been claustrophobic to stay in over several nights, especially with more than me in it, but it was fine as a place to sleep.

After a week of hearty chowders and large portions of meat or fish and potatoes, it was quite a change to eat here. Portions are delicate and much use is made of squeezy bottles to make intricate patterns. Presentation is very important and service is excellent.

We spent 2 days over the Christmas holidays as a little treat before we get married, we spent one going to the races at leapordstown with friends and the second shopping in Drogheda and meeting up with friends again.

We found scholars comfortable, homely and great staff.
