The room had not been cleaned at all
It was honestly filthy with dust an inch high on the bedside cabinets and the skirting boards
Even the door handle to the room was full of grime
The parking was a nightmare as it was first come first served and there were cars everywhere with nowhere at all to park.
The hotel is dated and run down and we left without staying the night and found alternative accommodation in Berwick-upon-Tweed (which was lovely) at great expense to ourselves but it was worth it as we couldn’t possibly stay at that hotel.
We were going to inform a member of staff about our decision to leave but there was nobody about , the hotel seemed to be unmanned.
Also we were sold a sea view which was nonsense as there wasn’t one.
All in all an experience we want to forget.

Check in was difficult due to no light, first we couldn’t see the house number, or their hill crest sign, then the numbers in the black box which held the key to get in. (Both were very obvious in the daylight!!)

We were totally charmed with our stay at Hillcrest House Bed & Breakfast in Bamburgh! We climbed the beautiful staircase to our room (Room 1, Deluxe Double Room, Sea View) - we could see the North Sea from our window and right out the window was a sheep and bunny field! We love this! The breakfast options were amazing and Malcom cooked it to perfection!

We visited Bamburgh as it was our wedding anniversary for a few days break. We met Mark our host who was very welcoming and friendly, also he cooked us the best high quality breakfast nothing was to much trouble for him .It's the perfect spot to stay very easy to travel to holy island from here and great views of the castle

This is a lovely, charming property in a lovely part of the world. The rooms were clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The host was lovely and cooked breakfast daily to specification. I cannot fault any of this.
However, the property is in need of maintenance and modernisation. The door handle to our room was broken and we only had one set of keys and the door could not be unlocked from inside. This meant that if one of us went out then we had to leave the door unlocked (in case of fire etc) but couldn't even close it properly. The towel rail in the bathroom was hanging off the wall and the shower was an overhead, rain style shower meaning I couldn't shower and keep my hair dry. Also, the TV was very small and we could not cast to it. In a location with nothing to do in the evenings, I would expect a better TV. Finally the WIFI was poor, we could use it to browse the web but little else, even the TV lost connection regularly.

Lovely B&B with spacious rooms and bathroom. When we let the staff know we wouldn’t be having breakfast due to a 6AM departure, they insisted on having breakfast ready for us before we left. Breakfast was fantastic! So kind and generous. And Bamburgh Castle is just two minutes away.

B&B was in a good location and walking distance to restaurants pubs and the Castle. The people who run the B&B are very nice and helpful and make a good breakfast. But the accommodation was very dated late 60s/70s our room was in need of a good vacuum and dusting although the bedding was clean and the bed was comfy. The shower was in need of repair as the base was cracked and sealed with gaffer tape and covered with a non slip mat and the bathroom needs a good clean.

Mark is a wonderful host. The room we stayed in had a lovely big tub and lots of very hot water. Breakfast lovingly prepared and delicious. Highly recommend for a sensible, comfortable stay very near to the center of the village and good eating options and pubs.

Very Disappointed and will not be back again
Really disappointed in the actual property/room on arrival. check-in was via a keysafe, no one else in the building and I took a chunk out of my thumb on the keysafe cover. The room was meant to be a Superior Room but it fell well-short of what I was expecting having read the reviews left by others. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired and a bracket that had presumably held a wall-mount for the TV was exposed and hanging off the wall, with a power supply cable from a retractable cable reel(safe??)poking through a makeshift drilled hole in a wardrobe unit servicing a very small TV standing on a set of drawers. There were no tumblers/glasses provided in the room or bathroom - Again not the 5star facilities we thought we were getting, I'm afraid.
Finally to breakfast - although the cooked plate of food Malcolm served us was ok and Malcolm himself was a very pleasant person, I would not rave about the breakfast as others seemed to, and in conclusion I would definitely not be recommending Hillcrest House to anyone else

Wonderful
The quintessential B&B experience. From the checking in process to breakfast in the morning it was made to feel like we were a guest in a home, not a business. We loved every minute of it.
Location is perfect for the Castle, beach and local businesses. Bed was very comfortable as was the downstairs living area. We didn’t want for anything. Street parking is a little hit or miss, but there isn’t anything our host can do about that, just be prepared for a little walk from your car to the front door depending on season and arrival time.
Thanks to Mark and his father, we will be back again for sure.
Location is perfect for the Castle, beach and local businesses. Bed was very comfortable as was the downstairs living area. We didn’t want for anything. Street parking is a little hit or miss, but there isn’t anything our host can do about that, just be prepared for a little walk from your car to the front door depending on season and arrival time.
Thanks to Mark and his father, we will be back again for sure.

Nice little Bamburgh B&B
Canny little B&B that's ticks all the essential B&B boxes just on the outskirts of Bamburgh, no issues, very quiet, Malcolm who did our breakfast was lovely and chatty. Parking could be an issue in busier months but that can be said for Bamburgh in general as it can get very busy. Good communication and instructions from them prior to the visit. Thank you!
