The hearing didn't work in the room, the hotel needs some attention, the rooms seem a bit tired and no clear instructions on parking. There are better 4* hotels out there... In my experience (having travelled over 80 countries) and spending over 50% of my time in hotels... This 4* establishment fell really short of thr standards.

Disappointed that the cost of the spa was 23 per person and not 23 per day as stated... also told it was max 2 hours in spa for the price. Shower in room didnt drain so flooded the bathroom.. told someone would be up but no one showed so we just mopped it with towels as best we could. Nively sized rooms. High ceilings are great, beds reasonably comfortable. Breakfast had nice jams and locally supplied products but most hot food was cold. Good coffee and 3 machines so minimal wait times. Very nice dining room. Outside of building is being cleaned which is needed. Area is under construction so should be nicer soon. 100+ year old building which is fun. Closets galore in the room (5). Local parking on the road is free 6pm to 830 am. No connected parking included. Community parking is 1st hr free, an inexpensive thereafter.

Staff were helpful. Hotel is very big and a bit/very tired in places and a bit weird. Breakfast was awful - burnt scrambled eggs, and weak coffee had to abandon it..The Spa was good. As it was a one night stop over it was fine. Would have been disappointed if staying for more than one night.

First and foremost, I must commend the aesthetic appeal and convenience of your facilities, which significantly enhanced my stay. The property's beauty and the array of amenities available were truly impressive.

However, I would like to bring to your attention an incident that occurred during my visit, which somewhat marred the otherwise pleasant experience. One early morning, I requested a cup of coffee and was informed of a $3.00 charge. As I did not have my wallet with me at that moment, your staff kindly allowed me to sign a receipt to add the charge to my room bill – a gesture I appreciated for its convenience.

Unfortunately, the situation took an uncomfortable turn later that day. As I was preparing to leave the hotel for the day, I was approached by a staff member in the lobby who insisted that I needed to pay for the coffee immediately. This occurred in front of my colleague, and I found the manner of approach quite embarrassing, especially considering that the charge had already been billed to my room as per the earlier arrangement.

I understand that policies regarding payments must be adhered to, but I believe this situation could have been handled with more discretion and professionalism. A simple reminder at check-out or a more private conversation would have been more appropriate and less embarrassing.

I hope this feedback is helpful in further refining the guest experience at your hotel.

Let me just start by saying that this used to be my favourite hotel in Europe.
The art deco, the size of the rooms, the quietness yet grandeur of the hotel plus it’s quaint location made it special.
However, this time, the room was quite small, looking at the back of the building and most importantly the carpet was full of stains. Very visible stains. It was not worthy of a 4* rating at all. Add to that, the fact that there was no hair conditioner in a spa hotel, the bed throw didn’t seems to have been washed, and the walls ans cupboards were in need of some repair, I was disappointed.
This hotel has primed in its attention to detail as well as the surroundings. But this time it failed.
Also, the road to the hotel was closed. There should have been a message from the hotel to let us know ans at least an offer of help to carry the luggage up a long way up stairs etc. unfortunately there was no message and no help.

Hotel is living on fading glory. Breakfast had nasty coffee and no cut fresh fruit. Room not cleaned until 3:30, then no fresh towels although all towels soaked by shower without curtain that flooded the bathroom. No offer to help me luggage to room although I’m a woman with a cane and walking boot on her foot travelling alone.
Spa receptionist likewise unhealthful to handicapped person. Best staff member was Michel in the spa! Showed me elevators and stored my boot!
In general the staff needs to be trained on customer service!!!!

Beautiful and spacious room, quiet & clean. Nevertheless, balconies are dirty (never cleaned, with timeless spiders) as the bathroom vents. Check in and out is an headache with no reserved and dedicated parking lots. We got a fine in the spa area where we are strangely invited to park among vans and prohibited areas

The Very Splendid Splendid

A very, very good value Spa hotel in a true Art Deco period style. Clean and generously sized rooms with lovely big, comfortable beds. Wonderful, on site Spa that is surprisingly inexpensive. They also take smallish dogs, which was a big plus. Book a room facing the river if you can, as traffic can be a little noisy in the morning, as the hotel is right in the centre of the busy town. Secure parking is a two minute walk and inexpensive overnight. Staff are excellent and very friendly. All said, a very pleasant stay.

Great stay but hard beds

Our recent stay at Le Splendid hotel and spa was wonderful. We had the breakfast at the hotel which is very good. I love the fresh orange juice !
The only thing we did not like is the bed was very hard. And it was not possible to change rooms as all beds are the same.
Otherwise the staff is very friendly and it is very clean.

The hotel was simply stunning..... beautifully renovated with style and quality. Everything about Le Splendid was perfect. Plenty of space in the room, A superb shower and large comfortable bed. It felt very special staying there. It is also right on the edge of the town centre so easy to nip out and look around the town.

Stayed for one night in Dax during the beginning of their five day feria/fete - great atmosphere and hotel was exceptionally busy. Although thousands of people poured into the well organised but hectic festival, the service from the staff was still of a high standard. Julien, the receptionist who spoke excellent English, couldn't have been more helpful. Spa services were extremely good, had two very good treatments, there was a lovely spa pool but sadly it was not a pool you could properly swim in. Bedroom was spacious and well appointed with comfortable king size bed and lovely bathroom. An elegant hotel and good value for money.

L’accueil de l’hôtel est inaccessible par téléphone, il m’a été imposé par mail un départ à 8h du matin contre 11h annoncé sur le site, je ne compte plus le nombre de fois où l’accueil de l’hôtel m’a raccroché au nez lorsque j’ai essayé de comprendre pourquoi.
Par contre, le service sur place était très bien, le spa également même s’il n’est pas inclus dans le tarif de la chambre mais est en supplément et ne donne qu’un accès d’une demi-journée.

Nous avons adoré cette endroit et l'espace balnéothérapie est super .
On peut ressentir le faste des années 30 dans la décoration et les meubles .
Quelques meubles mériteraient une petite restauration mais on ne peut pas avoir l'authenticité d'un lieu presque centenaire et la perfection dans le mobilier.
En tout cas , je suis tombée sous le charme de cette endroit.

Lors de notre arrivée, une erreur nous a conduits dans une chambre déjà occupée, ce qui a été un moment assez gênant. Par la suite, nous avons été relogés dans une chambre plus petite que celle initialement prévue, ce qui n’était pas totalement conforme à nos attentes, surtout avec nos deux chiens.

Néanmoins, nous souhaitons souligner la grande amabilité et le professionnalisme du réceptionniste, qui a fait preuve d’une réelle volonté de résoudre la situation de la meilleure manière possible. En geste commercial, l’hôtel a également procédé au remboursement des frais de 14 € par chien, ce que nous avons beaucoup apprécié.

En conclusion, malgré un début de séjour difficile, le service attentif et la réactivité du personnel ont permis d’atténuer cette expérience.

Deuxième séjour dans cet hôtel (voir mon avis enthousiaste en mai 2024 !), toujours aussi merveilleux. Quelques jours de repos en solo à Dax, et de vrai repos au Splendid. Tout est parfait : calme, confort, beauté du lieu, accueil, petit-déjeuner, spa... Cette année, j'ai pu aussi tester le bar, cocktails impeccables. Il faudrait être vraiment difficile pour ne pas être heureux ici, dans ce décor digne des meilleurs Agatha Christie ! J'ai déjà hâte d'y réserver un prochain séjour...
