A Solid Choice for a Trip with Friends

Hotel Avándaro is a good option, and it also works well for a getaway with friends. The property is very well maintained — it’s not the most modern hotel out there, but it has a charm and quality that hold up nicely over time.

The atmosphere is calm and quiet, which makes sense given that it’s primarily geared toward families. The bar at night is practically empty, so don’t expect a lively scene — but if you’re looking to unwind, that can actually be a plus. The grounds are great for walking, and the food is fresh, healthy, and genuinely enjoyable.

A few things to note: the pool was a bit cold for the season despite being heated, and the fitness classes at the gym tend to get crowded, so we ended up going to another hotel for the spa experience. We also had a citywide blackout during our stay, which left us without electricity or Wi-Fi for a while — not the hotel’s fault, but worth mentioning.

On the bright side, the location is excellent — you can walk into the town center easily, which is great for exploring. All in all, a pleasant stay, and I’d happily come back with friends again.

Location amazing. View from rooms amazing. Rooms are dated. Pillows not comfortably ( too poofy). Water in the shower goes hot cold hold cold. Rooms smell from extreme moisture. Food was so so. Overall we loved th place in spite of everything because it was so relaxing and beautiful. We had no Americans there an no one spoke English other than front desk. Amazing golf, tennis , pickle ball and morning cycling classes outside. A lot of local wealthy people come here.

I had a surprisingly excellent stay at Avándaro Hotel. The service was warm, empathetic, and truly stood out—especially in how thoughtfully they accommodated a guest with special needs. The food was fresh and delicious, with two on-site restaurants and a charming coffee shop that serves the most sought-after yogurt ice cream.

The amenities were spotless, and the pool was kept at the perfect temperature. Our suite was clean and comfortable, offering a relaxing stay—though there is room for improvement in the shower area.
I didn’t received the VIP treat

Special mention to the reception team and the staff handling transportation, who were especially kind and helpful. The hotel is also well-located, allowing for an enjoyable and safe 25-minute walk into town. I would definitely return.

This is our second time staying at this property for a family vacation. I have young children, and the facilities, like the pool, are excellent for them. The food is good, offering plenty of comfort food options. During our last visit, I was unsatisfied with the service and gave them a 3-star rating on a different platform. I believe they have improved since then, but their level of service still does not match the prices they charge. I hope they enhance their service further. Nevertheless, it's still an excellent option for people visiting the area.

Las instalaciones son maravillosas: espacios abiertos muy bien diseñados, piscina, canchas de tenis y pádel, pero el servicio es terrible. Hay mucho personal pero sin la capacitación o supervisión adecuada, dando información incorrecta o simplemente no atendiendo las necesidades. Ni una sola vez vi a un gerente de servicio al cliente hacerse visible. Desafortunadamente, experimenté lo mismo la última vez que visitamos.

Property was beautiful but it was unclear what was accessible to the guests vs. owners. For example, the golf course seemed to be member only and other areas of the property were also limited to only members. Also, there was no air conditioning or fans and the rooms, while they had great views, get a lot of sun which warmed the rooms.

Poorly maintained rooms, without basic courtesy kits - Vanity, shower caps, etc - and bad response when asking for basic things such as extra towels. Don’t expect accessibility when using a wheelchair and want to go to the main hotel areas such as the pool and garden: no ramps, no elevators… nothing. It’s a pity for such a beautiful and traditional hotel in one of the most iconic and wonderful towns of Mexico such as Avandaro. Hope they take into account people with disabilities in their future renovation plans.

Nos hemos quedado varías veces en el Hotel. Pedimos room service el viernes y dejaron el servicio afuera de la habitación los 2 días que estuvimos ahí. El restaurante José deja muchísimo que desear para la cena, pedí una ensalada César en donde la descripción no tiene nada que ver con lo que recibí, el aderezo es de súper, los crutones decía que eran horneados y también son de súper. Tienen el mismo menú que el de la alberca. El spa sigue siendo fuera de serie. Les falta atención en esos “pequeños” detalles

Las habitaciones donde estuvimos están deterioradas y las chimeneas no servían, todo el humo de quedaba dentro de la habitación haciéndolas incluso peligrosas por todo el humo que aspiramos. El agua de la alberca tibia en un clima frío. Ha perdido belleza natural debido a la remodelación, que consta de edificios que tapan el paisaje que antes se aprecian. En el restaurante nunca tuvieron todas las opciones del menú. No volveríamos.

El hotel está en renovación, hay lugares bonitos y tranquilos, lo que no me gusto fue demasiado olor a humedad, todas mis cosas se olieron aún regresando a casa y solo estuve 2 noches. Tuve que mandar a Tintoreria mis abrigos ya que estaban transmitiendo el olor a la ropa limpia. Deben de mejorar esto mucho.

They don’t lime bookings from Expedia.
I booked trough Expedia, I decided because I was offered a VIP Access when booking.

It looked like a nice hotel, although it was confusing to get to the reception since the top front part was under construction.

I was expecting a nice experience, instead I had a unpleasant morning. I got up early, took a shower and to my surprise, when I came out with my towel there were workers repairing a roof right in front of my full view balcony. My mom got awaken by their noise.

My room selection was nasty and unnecessary. I booked for a Sunday night, the hotel was practically empty, there were plenty of rooms and they had to give us the one right next to the construction, was this the “VIP Access”?

I shared my disappointment to the person that gave me the room, he offered to make it up to us if I booked next time through them directly.

So now you know, if you don’t want to be look down on, and be given the worse room possible, book directly. Otherwise, choose a hotel with a more reasonable and kinder receptionist, there are plenty more to choose from.

There's no hot water in the room. Every time you need to take a shower you have to call them and wait about 10 to 15 minutes to get a not very hot water .
Food isterrible and super expensive. Practically everything is very mexican (chile) and no healthy stuff.
However, they are nice and make a nice try to provide service.

Double Charge Fraud

I booked and paid through Hotels.com by using my 2 reward night. But, after checking out(4~5 days later), Hotel charged and took more money(almost double) from my credit card that was used for the deposit even though I paid all at the hotel. I can't believe how such 5 star hotel do like this. Every staying at this hotel must check their account(bank or credit card) if they double charge and take extra money for them. Be careful!

Perfect getaway close to Mexico City

Avándaro is the perfect getaway if you need some time out from Mexico City. Clean air, some rain, sounds from nature and overall calmness. The service is good and the accommodations are very comfortable. Not all the employees speak English, and that is one of the few rooms of improvement.

Incredible hotel! We absolutely loved our apartment. It felt more like a cabin than a hotel room. The room has beautiful views and even had a large gas fireplace. Overall, I was very impressed with the hotel, their services and the location. I would stay here again.

Property was beautiful and the town was great for exploring. Tons of nature, good food and local markets. We had tons of issues with the front desk. We were without Wi-Fi for the entirety of the trip, which was INCREDIBLY frustrating. I WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED had I known that. We were assured we would have wi-fi before arrival. We were international travelers and without wi-fi we had no access to info about the town, restaurants, email etc. The front desk was NOT helpful. They \"reset\" the wi-fi numerous times and then proceeded to blame it on our phones.....which had worked LITERALLY everywhere else in Mexico for the duration of our two week stay. We were not offered anything in response to this HUGE issue. Not even a free drink ticket. If wi-fi or an accommodating front desk is something that is important to you I would not recommend booking here...we had other issues with the front desk but none as glaring as the wi-fi....... REALLY wish we could have enjoyed our stay here. The property is really lovely and we were incredibly excited. The front desk was A MAJOR let down on every level.

This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful, lakeside setting in the mountains. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. It rained while we were there but we relaxed and read. The food and drink were very good.
