It’s only good enough for a one night en route to Johannesburg. Other than that I would not recommend it to anyone for leisure stays. Too much partying and the cabins needs a complete revamp

We had a few places we could choose from in Bloemfontein but decided on this as the photos were stunning and it is close to get on highway to Kimberley.
It was boiling hot when we arrived, cabin was closed up, no windows open so took almos 5 hours to actually cool down. When we went to the pool it was green and apparently they are still getting it ready for summer??? Really? If I had not paid yet Inwould have left and booked into another place. The photos were misleading.......

Bains lodge is a beautiful setting and great restaurants to choose from. My bed was comfortable. The bathroom was my problem, the shower floor tiles looks about 20 years old and did not look clean at all. Also the roof of the bathroom was full of mould patches.

The apartments smell of dampness and smoke, I think they should be very strict with their \"no smoking in rooms policy\" that is if they have one. The braai area outside the apartment was nice and the garden around the apartment clean

Beautiful exterior but interior was rather shocking. Extreme mold on bathroom ceiling, toilet was leaking, a hole in one of the duvet covers and hand prints and smears all over the sliding door glass panel. Decent beds to sleep in for one night but overall would not stay again.

Very poor client service, asked for some fresh milk for coffee which took almost 4 hours to arrive. the water system is dangerous, got nasty burns on my back in the shower as it was unable to maintain a steady temperature. I'm sure places like this are required to have thermostatically controlled shower taps so it doesn't happen. will not recommend or stay there again....

Do not sleep there!

This place is too noisy until 23:00. The noise is coming from people speaking outside and music. In the morning the staff is talking loudly proclaiming n the morning while you're sleeping. The lodges reception is very convincing. You'll get the shock of your life when get to your room. The money charged is a rip off compared to the state of the lodge.

I love staying at Bains game lodge especially in the Wooden Cabins, very relax and homely feeling. But Avoid staying in Cabin 3, need a refit example the door is old and there is a massive ant infestation inside. every morning the floor is covered in ants.
It is the only cabin that is like that, the rest is perfect.

Place itself is great, but big disappointment

My first impression of the hotel was very good. Staffs were so friendly and welcomed. I really loved it. So when we found that they gave us a wrong information about the neighboring tourist site, we thought It would be better to inform them so that they can update or correct their information. We got the information from them and took a taxi to go there paying R170, and we found the site was closed. So we had to pay R340 for taxi for nothing. We never accused them, but wanted them to update the information so that they can improve their service.
However, when we told them, both of the staffs who gave us information turned their face, and started to give us their excuses. One of them even confessed she didn't even know the place without hesitation. Other one just said to us \"It was what I was told by the site,\" as if it's none of her business. No apology with sympathy, or promise to update the information.
It was such a disappointment to us, since our first reception was so good....

The site is beautiful, and restaurants are good. But I personally don't want to have that kind of experiences anymore....

Need urgent attention!

Noisy, people playing loud music till 05h00 and we couldnt rest properly. It was very disturbing. There was also a lot of spiders whoch were found in the towels, toilet and toulet paper roll and curtains. They should treat for spiders.

This hotel has bars and what seems to be a night club on its door step, the music went on until early hours of the morning, with someone disrespecting other guest's by honking their car horn for more than an hour, the room TV cables were unsightly and left hanging on the walls, the kettle didn't work. the light from the passage shone through the glass panel door, it was not a pleasant stay.

Lovely place. Nice and central.

There was a few ups and downs... room was double booked on arrival however the staff were more than accommodating and booked us into a nicer room for the same price with no hassle at all.

On the first night (Thursday) there was a local musician playing in the bar downstairs, where there is a large room for dancing and entertainment and two bars. It was very refreshing to have something lively on the lodge entrance and the rooms are no where near the entertainment area so sleep is not affected.

There was a balcony in every room, although not 5 star it was more than what we were expecting for the price we paid and was lovely for a morning coffee and smoke (though outdoor chairs would have been advisable).

The room was very modern and clean looking. We however had two down-points, as we had moved rooms we had to push the beds together for a double bed. On moving the beds we found 1 pair of mens jocks/underpants... (unfortunately not clean!) and 1 pizza box, contents of which were 1 remaining moldy slice of (ham)? pizza. We were disappointed it wasn't fresh :/. The lift also didnt work on our day of leaving so we had to carry our bads down two flights of stairs.

Apart from the maid obviously cleaning (very nicely) around the beds and not underneath we had a very very pleasant stay and would come back anytime we stay in Bloem.

Bathroom not up to standard

Although this was just a stopover after a long journey. Besides all the building works going on I was very dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the bathroom. Mould on the ceiling and walls, water runs very slowly out of the shower outlet resulting in the shower flooding… ;-( Room was good thou… ;-)

Overall the experience was good, but there was a dispute as to whether breakfast was included.
When I booked it was clearly included, but the lodge disputed this and it became a bit uncomfortable till eventually they agreed it was a mistake and they included the breakfast. Thanks to Hannie.

What more can I say, the rooms were neat and clean as expected. I had minimal staff interaction but on both occasions they were well mannered and polite. The beds were comfortable, the room itself looked modern. The rates were very reasonable. Bains Lodge far exceeded my expectations.

What Game ?

My Husbands birthday - big mistake I should have read the reviews first !! Most expensive of all our (4 week) Holiday Accomodation and by far the very worst - almost like a Prison Block. I don't think the Staff in the reception would have taken any more notice if I'd have been naked !!!! awful, awful place

Bains continues to grow but not improve

Have stayed here in the past when it first opened and thought it was a great value. While the place is obviously doing well and continues to build and grow, it seems the upkeep of the hotel rooms isn't a priority. When we checked in we had to ask for a new room after I couldn't stand the stale smell of the non-smoking room. We got a much nicer room which made us wonder why we didn't get this one in the first place. if you have work at the nearby university, this is a good option, but I can't highly recommend it. I've never tried the restaurants so can't review that element of the establishment. Service was responsive but a little late.

OK if your passing through

This hotel is described as being in a rural location, however it is off a due carriage way on the edge of town.

On arrival the reception staff were quite unfriendly and only gave vague directions to the rooms.

The rooms were very basic, but clean but had no privacy, if the curtains were opened then the large window look straight out onto an open walk way. With the curtains drawn the room is just a small box and feels a bit like a prison cell.

The restaurant tuned out to be the bar, the staff we helpful but the food was poor.

Breakfast, again the staff were helpful but the food was poor.

The swimming pool hasn’t been cleaned for ages, thick with algae, you would not want swim in it in a month of Sunday’s!

All in all it’s OK if you are passing through, but you would not want to stay there for long.
