Hi this is a slightly more expensive for the area but for us it was worth it. There was a hidden surprise for us as they have an infinity pool on the roof and sundeck which had views to die for. The breakfast was excellent the games room was fun and the staff took no hesitation to join in with playing games with my son. Room was lovely and staff amazing and great location for short walk into Ella to explore. But quite expensive is only negative

I was here for one night with my family. The staff was excellent particularly the front desk staff and Supun. Everyone gave us a warm welcome and answered our questions. Supun in particular was very patient and helpful with my elderly parents . The hotel is also located in the heart of Ella ‘s hustle and bustle and we had great views of the sunset and sunrise. Breakfast was also great . A variety to choose from. Would come back here next time I visit Ella .

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The room was ok, clean, small and basic. The location could be a big problem for some as situated around 200m up a very very steep hill often wet, which cars and tuk tuks also found difficult. There are some beautiful views although not from our side if the hotel - just unfinished hotels. We had breakfast which was well presented but basic - we stayed 3 nights but went into the centre for evening meals. Lots to see if the weather allows - 1 night too many for us as it was so rainy in mid November. Overall very nice hotel and staff.

We had a short trip to Ella and booked Hotel Onrock for one night. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill and was a bit tricky to find but once we found it, I could not fault anything about the hotel. It was very clean and well maintained. The staff were all very friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The room was extremely spacious and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. The highlight for me was the restaurant. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both meals were very tasty and had a variety of cuisines on offer. All the kitchen staff were very caring and went to a lot of effort to make sure we enjoyed our meals.

Excellent. Clean and comfortable with magnificent views. They are building an infinite pool on the roof that should be ready in a few months. The views will be even more spectacular.

The location of the hotel is up a steep hill with no lights when the sunsets, so therefore as a single female traveller it makes it difficult to get down to the main road of the town.

The food was mediocre and disappointing when it came to a curry which was potato in water and not a curry sauce.

The bathroom is dated and the toilet seats do not fit correctly. The room was not clean and the bedding and pillows need to be washed as they were very sweaty and smelly and made it uncomfortable to sleep. Additionally the kitchen staff make a lot of noise at night and in the early morning

We had an excellent stay in that property (3nights March 2025) It located on the hill so the views from the balcony are spectacular. Still just a few steps from the center of town. Very good breakfast with lots of options. Exceptional stuff, especially the manager who was very informative, helpful and kind. The only down was the bathroom which I'd say needed some renovations and the noise coming from the construction going on at the front of the hotel but I understand at some point they have to do it. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

They are charging 200$ per night and There is no hot water in the room.
Rooms were totally different than advertised..

Old and tired hotel, minimal breakfast options and hot food was all barely lukewarm. We had no hot water, shower wasn’t even lukewarm it was cold which was an issue that we reported immediately to staff who checked and said that was as good as it gets!

Ella is all hills - so it’s a 6 minute steep walk to Onrock or 1 minute drive but that’s better than almost every other place. It’s upscale for Ella though short of 4 star luxury. Breakfast excellent. It’s fun and convenient and the 2 of us from USA strongly recommend.

I’m sorry to say we didn’t enjoy our stay here. To start with the good the staff were helpful and friendly. To the bad, the bed and pillows were awful and very uncomfortable. The fittings in the room were poor. The hotel is noisy and has building work all around. We had the worst nights sleep at this hotel and left feeling shattered.

The bathroom on the other hand not the best, quite dark and the shower had quite a bit of black mould stains and needed a deep clean. Steep walk to get down to Ella and back to the hotel again. Wonderful 3 nights here. Unfortunately, we booked a garden view room so not much to look at and no chairs on the balcony. Springing for the mountain view room would be worth the extra money! Staff and service are excellent. Clean, comfortable and modern decor room, plus the rainfall shower is superb after enduring the heat and humidity!
Breakfast is sufficient and good. The property would get my 5 star review if there was some outdoor seating areas, which I believe is in the works. Overall, the friendly and top notch staff make this place stand out.
Super easy to walk down to the Main Street for entertainment and abundant eateries.
Would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a fantastic, and quiet place to stay while in Ella.

The hotel has stunning views with large modern rooms clean and comfortable
but be prepared for a bit of a climb to get there. If you’re carrying heavy luggage or not a fan of steep walks, it might be a challenge. we walked down for dinner and used tuktuk on every trip back up. Basic Breakfast was included But you probably better opt for nicer selection on the restaurants on the main street. The staff were friendly and accommodating many thanks to Kavindu who was super helpful and attentive
price is a bit on the high end but that's what you pay for prime location. we will defiantly recommend this place to our friends

A stunning hotel! The view from the balcony of little Adams peak, Ella rock and the ella gap is the best view i have ever seen in my life. The rooms are brand new and modern as well as very clean. The staff are very friendly and provide an excellent service. The hotel is in a fantastic location, a 2 minute walk from the Ella strip but it is very high up so it is so quiet and peaceful. No noise from the main road can be heard. Its location is far better than some of the luxury resorts which are 30 minutes away from Ella town. They are also building an infinity pool which will have the above mentioned view. This in my opinion, will make the property 5 stars.

The stay at Hotel Onrock was nice. The hospitality at the hotel was lovely ,with a hot towel and chilled fresh juice served on arrival. The room was nice, inroom decor a little out dated with the tv was too tiny.had to constantly move the mosquito nets out of the way to watch tv. Lol. Gave up and went to sleep. .Beds were comfy. Air-conditioned room. The bathroom a little outdated , hot water worked only sometimes in the day, not too fussed as we were there for a quick shower and out again. Frequent power outage, but expected in a mountain side area , best to use that time for exploring the outdoors. Hotel room was clean. Loved the in room slippers came in handy to walk around with some footwear in the room. Staff helped out with baggage and gave us umbrellas to use as it started raining on our way out for dinner a big thank you there. Staff were very sweet and welcoming. Would stay here again.

We just spent a few nights here. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. Where this hotel really shines is the service. The staff went well out of their way to accommodate us and ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The included breakfast was amazing and provided far more food than we imagined and packed leftovers for us which also became our lunch. On the day we left we were leaving early, when they found out we would be missing breakfast we were offered a packed lunch instead which was also delicious. This hotel exceeded expectations! Would certainly recommend.

One night family room

We stayed here one night with a family and small kids.
Reception is lovely and they have greeted us with cold drink (you need it after a steep climb to get to the hotel!).
We had a room with a view of Adams peak , unfortunately we also had a view of water tower and car park and being on the second floor , It was hard to focus on the view behind this all.
Rooms are a little tired for what they are charging. And no air- condition , just fans , so if it’s very hot it can be a little tricky.
Wi- fi was okay, best in the lobby or restaurant.
Breakfast was good. It’s a lot and a lot of choice , either western or Sri Lankan (try Sri Lankan ! It’s good! )
Overall it’s good , but I would suggest they need a little investment into the rooms to charge their prices.
PS go to Jade Green restaurant for a dinner. This ladie served us 5different veg currie platter with rice and it was the best we had in all Sri Lanka , I only regretted not taking cooking classes with her. Aubergine curry was our favourite! It also has a small balconies overlooking Ella’s Main Street. Don’t miss it!

We paid extra to get a room with a view and air conditioning . The rooms were clean and new , comfortable beds and I loved the space where you could unpack your case . They had nice touches like toothbrush and slippers . The breakfast was good, fruit, eggs and a Sri Lanka delicacy . I loved how it was a short trip to town and the cafes - it was a steep walk . When the Infiniti pool is finished on November it will be stunning . But the view of Ella rock and Lityle Adam’s peak was exceptional. The staff were so willing to help and attentive . Great views from the bedroom. Very new, very clean. Staff tripping over themselves to be helpful. Walking distance to central Ella ( albeit uphill on return!). Bathroom just a couple of feet too small, shower water pours under the sliding door making the bathroom floor quite wet. Unless you have the room door open along with the patio doors, there is no through breeze. The room gets quite stuffy even with patio doors fully open necessitating the aircon - which I hate. Otherwise perfect for a couple of nights.

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN SRI LANKA! honestly we loved everything about hotel onrock! Amazing kind and warm staff who go above and beyond really made this a special experience. Best Sri Lankan breakfast we had in Sri Lanka without a doubt, extremely comfortable room with great views of Ella rock and little Adam’s peak. I can’t recommend this place more highly! They also posted my friends AirPods to us in mirissa when she left them there and they arrived before we did. Location is up a hill but worth it for the views. Very clean and perfect overall. Family Trip made comfortable

We are a family of four, with two small kids. We went on a one week trip to srilanka during which we stayed in three different hotels/towns. Hotel Onrock was definitely the best hotel we stayed in. Most hotels will charge extra for a fourth person but the room size and bed size will be the same as for three people. This hotel had plenty of space in the room. There were two king size beds. Very comfortable. Also, the views from the balcony were excellent. The hotel is situated at the top of a small hill and gives great view of Ella Rock and the water falls on another hill. We tried western breakfast, srilankan dinner and spaghetti for the kids. Everything was excellent. They suited our vegetarian needs. The staff were very warm and friendly. Manager Kavish, restaurant staff Madhan and others. Thank you for making it a great stay for our family!

Another plus with the hotel location is that it is very close to the Ella town center and a good strip of road with nice restaurants and shops.

There are so many hotels in Ella. However, I am so glad that I chose Hotel Onrock.
First and foremost the view from the hotel is BREATHTAKING!!. Then the Staff. The Manager Rohan Perera (Mr Rohan as he is lovingly called) is a wonderful human. He takes care of everything. He will never say no to any request. Your comfort is utmost important to him. He is available until 9.00 pm in the night and then from 4.30 am in the morning. His customer centric attitude is amazing. His staff also follow his lead. Raja from Housekeeping is a gentle soul. Panduka from back office is great. The rooms are so clean. The dining area is breathtaking. You get to see a waterfall from the hotel. All the major landmarks in Ella are so close from the hotel. A lot of dining options nearby. I highly recommend this HOTEL.

This hotel was nice enough but not worth the money. It has great views of ellas gap in the morning and a nice strong shower. We had several insect and lizard friends in our room but i think thats probably to be sxpected in that area. My major issue is i booked this hotel for the sri lankan breakfast and at no point did the host tell me i had to order it the night before so in the morning he would only offer me a crummy omelet and said i should have placed my order last night. How would i know that? The hotel is at the top of a very very steep hill but its a good workout if you like that kind of thing. Also we ate out till about 10pm and the hotel owner locked us out!! We had to bang on the doors to get back in

The views from my balcony at Hotel Onrock were simply breathtaking! The room itself was also very spacious, clean and comfortable. And it had two very powerful fans to manage the heat during the day (the room cooled down pleasantly at night). The breakfast was lovely and the dining area also had beautiful views. Exemplary service and stunning views

I can't recommend Hotel Onrock highly enough! From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the manager, Mr Perera.

The hotel lobby/restaurant was decorated for Christmas and there were Christmas songs playing, which I loved! We were handed a complementary glass of papaya juice, and quickly shown to our room while our luggage was taken upstairs for us. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a fan, which was sufficient to keep us cool at night. The en suite bathroom had a great shower, and complementary toiletries were included. The room had tea and coffee making facilities, and bottled water was provided in the room daily. Breakfast was included - fresh fruit and fruit juice, toast with jam, eggs made to order, and tea/coffee. Mr Perera was quick to provide helpful recommendations about restaurants and activities in the town.

The best thing about this hotel (apart from the excellent service!) was the view. Our balcony overlooked Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock, and we could watch the sun rise in the Ella Gap between. The hotel also had a public balcony on the first floor with two hammocks overlooking a similar view, which made for a very relaxing time!

We only stayed for the two nights we spent in Ella, but would happily have stayed at Hotel Onrock longer and were sad to leave!

Great view of the Ella Gap from the rooftop to catch the magnificent sunrise! The hotel manager takes pride of his work and ensures our stay is well taken of. Location of hotel is near the main street, while not subjected to the noise from the eateries. Peaceful and quiet, nice place to chill and relax.

Nice hotel just a short walk up a steep hill from the main street in Kandy. The breakfast was nice (make sure you ask for he Sri Lankan one). The rooms were clean but fitted out pretty cheaply compared with other places we stayed in Sri Lanka (squeaky bed and cheap bathroom). Staff were very friendly.

We loved our stay here. Great location to be able to walk to Ella Rock, Nine Arch Bridge and the main street in Ella. Staff was great and very attentive. Our room was perfect for what we needed and balcony had an amazing view of Ella Rock and Little Adams Peak. Would stay here again.

The view from our room was worth the stay alone. We stayed for one night as we’d taken the fabulous train journey to Ella. We were warmly welcomed and the service was excellent. We had to leave early and they arranged breakfast early so we could eat before our car collected us at 7am.

HOTEL ONROCK - SUPERB!!

Our stay at Hotel Onrock was absolutely wonderful. The service was exemplary and warm and genuine. We experienced genuine hospitality and felt very welcome. We were recommended local restaurants to try and we did, and they were fantastic experiences - wonderful food, service and ambience.The hotel was beautiful, positioned high up on a hill with views that were spectacular 360degrees!!!! We would recommend anyone if travelling to SriLanka to definitely stay here in Ella as it was a wonderful part of our holiday.

Fantastic 2 night stay!

On arrival we were met by the ever delightful Rohan. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious with a great view of Ella Rock from our balcony. Nice and quiet away from the noisy main road. Food was freshly prepared on demand with beautiful breakfast included. It was a pleasure having Rohan on hand offering local knowledge and advice. We highly recommend checking into Hotel Onrock!

We stayed at Hotel Onrock for 3 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. The view from our balcony was amazing. Location was great, close to Ella Rock, Little Adams Peak and all the local restaurants. Rohan the manager was exceptional. He made sure our experience at the hotel wonderful. Would recommend Hotel Onrock to anyone travelling to Ella.
