This hostel has a unique charm and an excellent location for exploring Budapest. The apartment we stayed in was very spacious, and the reception staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. While the building is a bit older and the shower was quite small, the overall experience was great considering the price and unbeatable location. I would definitely recommend it to travellers looking for affordable accommodation in the city.

We stayed a few nights during January 2026. This is such a cute place! We loved the spacious living area. It was nice to have a kitchen and a refrigerator too. Very safe place to stay. There are several places to eat and nice grocery stores near by.

We stayed at their offsite apartments. The building is dated and not wholly owned by lavander and at first it put my partner off upon entry, but when we got to our apartment, we were both so impressed by it, absolutely incredible and definitely worth every penny. We even had a piano in our room lol. Right around the corner from one of the harry potter bars, the forsale pub and the best shooting range I've been to. I cannot express how happy I am with the accommodation and location. 10/10

Pleasant Staff, Cash Only, Two Locations

Staff was very friendly, good value for accomodations.

Wish I had known:

(1) there are at least two different addresses pretty far apart, and they might divide your group between locations. They were nice about letting me cancel one of my rooms (booked another more expensive hotel closer to main location, so I could stay near my teenagers).

(2) the website said I could pay by Visa, but then I found out after arrival, that they wanted full payment in CASH instead. My bank wont let me withdraw enough cash from an ATM to cover an extended stay, nor did I want my two teenage girls wandering around town carrying that much cash.

I cannot understate what a hassle it was trying to work with bank transfers to their preferred parties (many hours on internet and phone). Eventually they agreed to accept Western Union, which was fast and easy.

For me, the juice was not worth the squeeze. But the girls had a fantastic time, felt safe and welcome.

Furniture conditions are poor, very different from the photos provided. The floor
It is not mentioned anywhere in the description that you should climb 3 floors by stairs, in a smelly and poorly maintained building. The floor trembles when walking in the room and common areas, and also when tram passes in front of the hostel.
There was no headshower available for the room with shared bathroom. A guy from staff was lost and didn't know exactly what to do. I left for the day out and he called me in the afternoon telling me they would move me for a room with proper shower. I refused to return to the hotel as I was far making tourism and he informed the keys would be there when I returned at evening. When that happened, a girl from staff said I'd have to pay to move rooms (opposite of what was informed earlier).
Finally, after leaving the hotel, I received a message requesting the payment, which I had already did one day before leaving - but for some reason the staff forgot to input into the system.
I would have many more things to say, however I don't to annoy myself anymore with this kind of people and place.

Lovely quirky accommodation in Central Budapest

Great quirky hostel in the heart of Budapest. Easy to find with great transport links, whilst walking distance to many of the sites.
The decor was amazing and made it a unique place to stay.

Not an issue for us, but there are quite a lot of steps with no lift so be prepared! Also it's on the main street so quite a bit of traffic noise - but location and quality of accommodation completely offset this.

Good stay in Budapest

The hostel was Ok in general, location was great and theres usually someone in the reception. The room was slightly hot for a summer stay (although fans provided) and the property was relatively quiet for undisturbed sleep.

If you have large or number of suitcases, this is not for you as the property is on the top floor and no elevators. However for usual backpackers this should be fine. There is an organised storage box system for each room in the fridge which is nice. The hostel is walkable from Astoria or Kalvin Ter metro stop so you can reach any main sights easily. This is a very characterful hostel which feels cosy. The showers are hot enough and toilets are clean in general. The room I had requires climbing up stairs to the bed as it is placed on the mezzanine floor. It is a nice place with lots of character but if you have lots of luggage or struggle to walk up stairs may be you should consider somewhere else.

Although a great place, it doesn’t offer any facility to get up 3 long flight of stairs. With luggage, it was no fun. Also makes it difficult to keep going out on demand because of the climb up the stairs. But location is fantastic and staff is really good. Note that there is no staff onsite or reception at this location.

The hostel is decorated imaginatively, the staff is extremely helpful, providing anything you request if it is available. Only 2 downsides:
1. It is a very old building with no elevator. If you can't walk 4 flights of stairs, this isn’t the place for you.
2. They do NOT take credit cards, even though all the booking websites say they do.They only accept cash or wire transfer and they only let you know this on the day of check-in. They also list the price in euros instead of the local currency. That being said, they are very relaxed about the payment, giving us ample time to get to a bank and withdrawing the money. All things considered I would stay there again.
One last thing: the building entrance can be hard to find. Just look for the Museum of Failure; it's just to the left.

This is a nice no frills hostel, the desk people are nice and friendly. The decor is cool. Others have noted that it’s a third floor walk up and the walk up isn’t lit, I didn’t think that was too bad at all, you have some light from the street so it’s not pitch dark by any means. Good location and close to all transportation. Not shabby by any means but definitely no frills, I would say if it’s a deal for you at the time of booking then do it. Only thing is that the private rooms don’t have an option for a private bathroom, only the larger apartments have that option.

It was a nice clean place in a good location. However, staff were nowhere to be found. The hostel is top floor as well so there are many steps so be prepared for that. The window in our room was covered by a curtain way too small so people could easily look in.

Overall, the place is ok. Probably wouldn't stay again.

Quirky Amazing Apartments!

We stayed in one of their Apartments which isn’t in the same location as the hostel.
The Apartment is amazing! We had a double bed up in a little ceiling hideout and a single bed in the living room area, these are super cute apartments and are full of character like you’ve not seen.
The location is near the train station, metro, Tesco, Mcdonalds etc. Easily walkable to the sights like Budapest eye, Shoes on the Danube, parliament etc.
Would absolutely recommend anyone stays here, very secure building too. I stayed there with my two children 14 & 17.
The staff were so friendly checking us in and storing our cases at the hostel when we checked out from the apartment.
They provide a hairdryer, microwave, fridge.
Please stay here and you’ll love it!

Lovely quirky room with hand painted designs on the walls. Our 11 year old liked his loft style bed and it gave him some privacy.

Quirky individual style

Good location
Close by to most places and plenty of food options
Comfy bed with great smelling laundry
Quiet
It felt safe (four lockable doors between street and our room)
Pleasant staff (even when checking in at 2am!)
Plenty of hot water
Shared amenities such as kettle / microwave in a shared room

Cons:
Pillows weren’t great
Only one towel per person, per stay
Three flights of stairs and no lift - not an issue for us but it might be if you have mobility issues.

All in all, I’d thoroughly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Best 'Hostel' in Budapest!

Located in a very central location, it was perfect for visiting Budapest. The only downfall was that there were no elevators (those with large heavy bags, please take note). We travelled light so the stairs were not a problem. Staff were very friendly and even allowed for late check out when the place was not busy.

We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The room and the shared areas of the hostel were beautifully decorated and clean. The facilities were adequate and there was milk and equipment to make my morning cup of tea. The only downside is the mammoth trek to the top of the stairs each time. There is no lift but you feel the rewards from your surroundings when you get there.
The staff were friendly and helpful if we needed it. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

Things to consider if you are planning to stay here: Travel Light and make sure you have no problems with walking up & down the stairs. The hostel is on 4th floor!

We have stayed in one of the exclusive apartments.
The location of the apartments is not the same as the hostel which can be a bit confusing, but it's a good location nonetheless.
Overall the apartment is nice and cosy. It's clean and comfortable.
Only downside is that we got an apartment without an AC so best to ask in advance and guarantee one which has AC (my understanding is that some apartments have AC while others don't).
Make sure you have your own shampoo and conditioner because it was not supplied even though the description says "free toiletries". Liquid soap was available.
This was a good last minute deal for use and I'd recommend this type of room to others (if the weather is nice then the AC is not a big deal).

The 'hostel' was as great as the reviews. Not your traditional hostel as we got a private room but we had a kitchen w/o a stove, spacious room and bathroom all steps away from the metro. You couldn't get a better location/price ratio for Budapest. The only down side was no air conditioning in the room tho they did have two fans to circulate the air! For touring the city this is a great option for travelers on a budget!

The hostel was a bit of a shock. The photos may be old and definitely not of the apartment we stayed at. The location is ok. We had to go up 3 flights of stairs to reach reception, which was ok, but there are security gates on each floor, which gives you a bit of nervousness. Ana was SUPER friendly and helpful every time we asked for help. However, the apartment was a bit run down and it was difficult for us to shower properly in the bathtub. The fans provided were a lifesaver. Our experience was just ok. I dont understand how the property earned 4.9 reviews and "outstanding" designation. It is ok if you're on a tight budget, but it was definitely the most disappointing lodging during our 18 night vacation.

Friendly service, excellent location, and above almost all else for me, **quiet** environment. I was amazed and glad to have an entire room to myself, rather than a bunk room. I almost never saw another soul, although everyone who came and went was quiet and respectful at whatever hour. Tremendously glad to be in an "adult" hostel. My only suggestion would be to install a wall mount for the hand shower in the hall bath.

A hidden Gem

My Wife and I absolutely loved our stay in this Hostel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome and received a personal facilities walk through and a local itinerary run through all over a freshly brewed cup of coffee. To say this place is unique would be an understatement - just look at the images of the place, there really is no where else like it. Location was excellent with the town centre and tourist attractions all within walking distance and local food and drink establishments just a street or so away.

O atendimento da recepção é fantástico, são muito cordiais e atenciosas, também são flexíveis sobre deixar a mala apos o checkout. O apartamento que ficamos tinha um banheiro bem pequeno e dificil de lavar o cabelo para pessoas mais altas e não pegava internet. A limpeza deixou um pouco a desejar.

Ostello ben curato e giovanile in un contesto storico, le foto rispecchiano la realtà, disponibili camere con e senza bagno, cucina sempre disponibile e su richiesta asciugacapelli. unica pecca negativa la mancanza di pos per il pagamento in loco, ma nulla di cosi terribile. Ottima la posizione con la fermata del bus 100E che collega la città all'aeroporto e svariate fermate di mezzi pubblici, preseti bar e punti ristoro nelle vicinanze. Sicuramente terrò in considerazione la struttura per i futuri soggiorni a Budapest.
