We stayed at Harbour Hotel in Padstow and ate in the restaurant two nights during our stay. Then the same for Harbour Hotel in Salcombe. if you’re looking for a food experience then Padstow wins hands down. I would rate the food in Salcombe as good but Padstow is another level or two up; perhaps it’s the Rick Stein effect………

Room overlooking the beach, very spacious & clean. Good soundproofing our sleep was not disturbed by other guests. Used the pool and sauna all very clean & very helpful staff. Breakfast was a lovely continental selection, lots of fresh fruit. Restaurant had a stunning view of the beach, would've like some lighter options for lunch and dinner. Mini bus was a great little added extra for getting to and from the edge of town. Very helpful staff eager to help.

Absolutely fantastic hotel with great staff. I think it’s my new favourite place to stay! Room was beautiful, spa was a really nice size with indoor and outdoor seating areas. The restaurant is really gorgeous with the most beautiful view of the sea. Food was great and reasonably priced and all the staff were friendly. We will definitely return.

An impressive modern hotel in an amazing position on South Sands, only a narrow road stands between it and an excellent beach. The views across to the far shore are truly spectacular. Access is down a very narrow road with passing places. ( typical of this part of Devon). Friendly and welcoming staff. Large and well equipped bedrooms. Beautiful coastal walks from the door.

Beautiful beach front hotel with a gorgeous pool and spa, the extra little touches made it even more special, things like welly's available for sandy beach walks, shuttle bus into Salcombe and the free glass of Gin in your room on arrival with ice already there. Would definitely recommend as a romantic break away or fun with family (there are set times in the pool for children, so works for all)

We had a great mini break over the new year period. Room was lovely with beautiful sea views. We had our evening meals at the hotel for both nights and food was delicious. Lots of variety and choice in the continental breakfast option also. Great location for coastal walks and the complimentary mini bus was nice to have. Staff very friendly and super helpful. All in all, a brilliant few days away to recharge after a busy Christmas. Will definitely return.

Fantastic stay overall, the location is perfect and the bed was honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. The staff were brilliant too; despite what some previous reviews have said, the restaurant team may be young, but they’re extremely welcoming, hardworking, and far from inexperienced.

Just a small note for future guests: if you prefer a more filling breakfast, be prepared to pay an extra £10 for the full option, as the continental selection is quite limited. That said, everything offered was very fresh and nicely presented.

Overall, a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

Hot breakfast can be expensive depend on what you have; it's a flat £10 charge. Utensils and tables could be cleaner.

Carpet fairly stained in the entrance to the bedroom and the bathroom was permeated with a sporadic drain odour which we highlighted to the front desk but there was no response during our stay.

Fantastic location right on the beach. Really nice people. Nice touch having the complimentary gin in the room. Included continental breakfast adequate but not brilliant. Room service unpredictable with certain items not being replaced (e.g. no brown sugar, limited milk cartons and no flannels on one day). Also, room not serviced until late afternoon on one day. That being said, we enjoyed our stay and would consider another Harbour hotel.

Ok, location exceptional, staff friendliness was the best we have experienced, really great, rooms were nice with the most comfortable beds we have ever stayed in. Then it comes to food, sadly no where near what you would expect for this priced property, could not get an English breakfast right despite returning 3 times meaning finning apart on a couples break, quality was poor and hit that you actually have to pay more on top of your room rate, the evening meals were poor although only dined once but was not prepared to try a second time, all in all a nice break but need some serious overhaul in the kitchen, one last thing try to avoid rooms 1-8 as the corridor has a drainage issue, not pleasant to wake up to at over £400 a night

We had a lovely stay.

We stayed in a beach view accessible room as my wife was in crutches we hoped this would make the stay more comfortable. The room was lovely but we did notice a few things that would have made it difficult for a wheelchair user (peddle bin in the bathroom, shower gels etc. on the far bathroom wall to the shower).

The gin is a lovely welcome gift, but note you’ll need to buy tonic from the bar or mini bar.

Not sure it’s right that paid breakfast means you have to then pay extra for hot food, get poor coffee for London prices and average food compared to the rest of Salcombe, but visually and the amenities of the place are good.

Have just enjoyed a 3 night stay with a friend. Beautiful hotel in unique location in quiet South Sands beachy cove. Lots of ways to get to Salcombe town centre either walking (a bit hilly), hotel shuttle car or water ferry. Rooms have stunning decor and bathrooms are very well appointed. Service throughout the hotel is excellent and very friendly. Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Good value & again great service throughout but with particular mention of lovely service from Rebecca. Views are gorgeous from the restaurant, hotel rooms with sea view, outside raised terrace and nice sun loungers at road level. Very nice spa pool area with jacuzzi, sauna & steam room. We used the treatment room at the town centre Harbour Hotel for massage & facials because we booked the stay last minute so no availability at the Beach Club. Recommend booking restaurant times & spa treatments ahead. The last few miles of roads into South Sands are narrow and need a bit of negotiating! Would happily return another time.

Annoyingly, children are only allowed in the pool a few hours a day around meal times, this was frustrating as it lists having a children's pool. Also, everything is extra, you have to pay for hot breakfast and the continental is mostly sweet. Other than that, we loved our stay.

Booked a single night. All the staff at the beach Club were very willing and friendly. The condition of our room was excellent. The bed exceptionally comfortable. Excellent shower. We used the spa facilities, which were not very busy except for the family swim period between 4 and 6pm (but it was during school, holidays). We would recommend the included continental breakfast. There was lots of choice and quality of the food was excellent.

Terrible impression upon arrival, we arrived a little early and were made to feel as it was a great imposition. The rooms were really small and shabby, the main problem was the cleanliness, dirty carpets dirty windows dust everywhere, mould in the shower, I could go on. Meals in the restaurant were mediocre, pub standard and overpriced £12 for a pot of tea for 2 plus obligatory 12.5% service
charge on everything. Paid extra for breakfast to be included only to find £10 pp extra if you wanted a cooked breakfast. I am aware there is a profit to be made, however, it felt as though they were trying to extract as much money as possible.Overall impression, this hotel was poorly managed not enough cleaning staff etc. Plus point great location.

Beautiful setting but some disappointments

The hotel is in a stunning location, with beautifully designed interiors and high-quality finishes (lacking maintenance in some areas). We were excited for our stay, but unfortunately, a few issues meant it didn’t quite meet expectations.

What we loved:

The complimentary gin in the room was a thoughtful touch.

The fixtures and fittings were of a very high standard. But poorly maintained.

The breakfast staff were friendly and welcoming.

What let us down:

Despite confirming in advance that no feather bedding would be in the room due to my partner’s allergy, feather cushions were left on the bed. It took two requests to have them removed.

The spa had designated times for children, which disrupted the experience. We weren’t informed of this at check-in, so clearer communication would have been helpful.

The transfer service was a major letdown. We arrived at 3pm, and we were told most evening transfers were fully booked. I really don’t understand why more transfers was too much trouble - we would have gladly paid. With taxi quotes at £40 one way to Salcombe, we had to walk along a single-track road—bring a torch if you plan to do the same!

Breakfast pricing was confusing—£10 for any hot item, whether a simple eggs on toast or a full English. Given that toast was free, it felt like paying £10 just for two eggs.

While the hotel has great potential, it didnt quite meet our expectations, and we’re unlikely to return.

This is a lovely newish hotel in a beautiful bay. If you are looking to spend a few days doing nothing and chill this is the perfect place. The photos that you see on their website don't lie. The food was excellent too!

Just a couple of minor issues.

I know hotels try to create a mood but the piped music all day long can be a little irritating at times. The management obviously do their homework, so as a guest who am I to argue.

The only other issue was the staff. Don't get me wrong, all of the staff were polite and courteous at all times and were never rude but they were very disconnected with the guests. We always had to ask for everything, no one was pro-active. Perhaps they were being overworked? They were very young and at times having someone more experienced overlooking things would have helped. The guys that drove the mini bus were the exceptions they were very communicative and personable. Also my wife had a facial in the spa, the lady was absolutely charming.

Would I return to the hotel. Yes!

The hotel is fairly new and therefore really modern and clean. There is a spa on site which is ideal after a days walking. The free shuttle bus into the heart of Salcombe is a great idea as the walk does involve a few steep hills although this is how we travelled into Salcombe most days. The hotel is right on the beach and is in a very quiet location. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. If like us you come here in the winter and you want to walk in and out of Salcombe then remember to take a torch with you as it is pitch black and a mobile may not be sufficient.

We loved the location of the property and the style but we were really dissapointed that we paid almost £150 more to have a 'sea view' room rather than a valley view. We were in room 1 and yes you could see the sea but through the reception glass and there were seats in front of the balcony. This was really dissapointing and sadly meant we did not feel comfortable sitting out and we couldnt really see the sea if we did - just the flow of people in and out of the reception area. Other than this we liked the property. We would not take the risk of booking a 'sea view' room in future sadly

The hotel is beautiful but I’m not sure I would stay again. The music played in the lounge/bar was horrible not in keeping with the hotel clientele, obviously for the benefit of the staff.
The food selection is limited and the quality poor, my evening meal and hot breakfast were dry with little taste.
The distance into Salcombe requires transportation and the hotel shuttle only has four seats so you are very lucky if you can get the time you want.
I’m not sure why there’s an aversion to Cabernet Sauvignon but the wine by the glass is not for a wine drinker.
I asked that the discretionary service charge be removed from my final bill. Gratuity is earned and not in my opinion a subsidy to the hotel coffers.
Although the hotel is only a few years old it’s not getting the TLC it needs, as an example the curtains in our room are already in need of attention.

The hotel was very nice - shame about the car parking, no idea why we had to leave out car keys behind the reception desk, it wasn't although they had completed valet parking, we were also told that we could leave out car in the car park till 1pm when we checked out but after only 1 hour they changed there mind and stated it needed to be moved straight away, frustrated and disappointed.!

The attitude of the front desk staff, who where happy to do their jobs but didn't come across as friendly or helpful but more officious in their actions and verbal communications.

Improvements need to be made to the hotel to make it more smooth running.

Stayed here for one night whilst passing through the area. It is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. We were given a free upgrade to a room with a balcony overlooking the beach. Its a bit out of the way of Salcombe centre. Its not really walkable but there is a ferry service (tiny boat) from the beach to Salcombe Harbour very frequently. Food was lovely and we enjoyed it whilst sat overlooking the sea. Would definately stay again.

Everything was amazing.

I thought the staff could have been friendlier (not the restaurant staff but the reception staff) Made not to feel super welcome as we arrived.

Fantastic location and views but Very disappointed there was no mattress protector on the bed and the mattress heavily stained we didn’t spot this until the next morning and actually made us feel sick.
Also the bathroom door being a sliding door was very heavy and awkward to open and close
Both items really need attention

we stayed for 2 nights from 29 June to 1st July , the room was spacious and clean , the bathroom was very nice. but the service was very bad the young ladies totally ignored me when I went for and was trying to tell them my room number they carried on chatting to each other like I was invisible , i just walked away i found this extremely rude . when we booked the room it said that breakfast was included but that was not the case , they demanded we pay £10 extra for hot cooked breakfast which was very misleading . the room was £305 per night which was very expensive but to charge guests extra for “ cooked” is unheard of , I have stayed at different hotels when they say breakfast was included they meant that, cold or hot you get a good breakfast, won’t be staying at that hotel ever , overall service was dismal. at check out they wrongly charged us £20 for the hot breakfast we never had, it was embarrassing to try to convince the girl at the check out desk that we didn’t have cooked breakfast on the particular day in front of our guests and this made us look dishonest . l i am still very upset about it .

Avoid partial sea view room not worth the expense dark and small.

Fantastic room upgrade to a beautiful sea view that we were very thankful for. Perhaps the most comfy hotel bed I’ve slept in. Superb breakfast and friendly staff all round. Very happy overall and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
