Air conditioning in the room did not work
Bit poor as we were in a mini heatwave. Could not use our room from 3pm as it was only just starting to be deep cleaned after having a dog in the room.
On the evening we had to wait for two hours for food. Not told that when we ordered. The place was just short staffed and it showed. My partner was told by the manager that our meals would be compensated due to really poor service and presentation. That hasn't happened. The next morning was better. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly. Overall I think the pub was just too short staffed. For the money we paid,it is not good enough . I do feel ripped off by the hope and anchor. Shame.

Staff lovely. Breakfast good -although took a long time. Great decor. Comfy bed. Nice bathroom. Good smart TV. Great location.

Not a good night's sleep either night.

Sea view over some industrial bins and a corrugated roof that gulls sit on making a load of noise. Industrial bin very loudly emptied at 7am one morning. Window faulty so you could hear all noise outside.

Ideal for pets. A lot of consideration was given towards our four legged friends.Staff very helpful and tentative. Food quality very good, especially the breakfast. Location excellent for access to the beach, (which allows dogs); approximately 30m away.

Things to look out for

The table in the downstairs restaurant where we were seated was in direct line with a door which was constantly opening and shutting which obviously caused a quite considerable draught!
Second night we ordered a sharing steak platter- the steak was inedible- we were compensated by not having to pay for the starters? On leaving we spoke with the manager who said he was addressing the draught situation and ordered the chef not to use Rump steak in future

Idyllic spot in Hope Cove.
Room needs a bit of TLC - walls were dirty and in need of repainting in places, window latches were broken,some cushions on the beds were stained, breakfast was cold on our second morning - but overall we loved our stay. The staff were all helpful and friendly, Parking was easy enough at a cost of £10 for 24 hours. It’s a pub so expect noise in the evenings until late. The rooms were well equipped and no problem to ask for anything extra if needed. It’s such a beautiful area, gorgeous views.
We would definitely stay again.

Wonderful location, welcoming staff, bit noisy as we were over the deck above the kitchen, and think toilets underneath us had a macerator malfunctioning as it kept starting and stopping all night but nothing the staff could really do about that! Food was good and beaches nearby were lovely. Overall, very nice

A gem of a pub and hotel in Hope Cove

Most enjoyable stay at the Hope & Anchor. The location is amazing, beautiful views of the beach and the coast, lovely balcony to enjoy a meal and a drink overlooking the sea. Nice and comfortable rooms, delicious food, most friendly staff.

Excellent Hotel, located right opposite the beach. Staff were extremely friendly and food was good, both at breakfast & dinner.
Great size room, with amazing views.

There is parking next to the Hotel in a pay & display car park, which is £10 for 24 hours

The location is magnificent, this is such a stunning part of devon, and you walk out the door basically onto the beach! The room was beautiful, with colour and texture and charm. the only slight against it was the only parking is the public carpark nextdoor so about £10 per day, but thats not much of a gripe in the scheme of things and they were super dog friendly. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

fantastic stay

Just spent 2 nights at The Hope & Anchor and had a fantastic stay. We arrived on Boxing Day a bit early for check in and although the restaurant was packed and the staff were really busy we got a very warm welcome and were able to go to our room. We had lunch and evening meal on the first day which were excellent. The breakfast was lovely (scrambled eggs were perfect and the overnight oats excellent). The room was very clean and warm with a nice view of the sea. There was a lovely welcome bag for the dog with lots of thoughtful things included. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The young girl serving breakfasts was particularly good. We were able to park on the road in front of the pub as it was out of season and the costs of the car park next door were reasonable. Will be booking again for next year!

Decent place to stay in a very pretty cove

Hope Cove is really pretty and the Inn is ideally positioned just 100 yards from the beach. Staff were all very friendly and whilst the room was smallish as expected it was well furnished with a decent bathroom. You have to accept that you are staying in a busy pub/restaurant and expect some noise until fairly late but not too appreciative of them tipping out all the empty bottles just outside our room at midnight. Menu was ok, I would have liked to see some fresh fish options but it is a standard St Austell Brewery menu so it doesn't I guess matter where you are staying, you are going to be offered the same stuff. Overall though , an enjoyable stay with particular mention to a number of young staff who remained good natured and helpful despite long busy days.

Wonderful and hopeful place

This was an amazing trip to Hope Cove. Despite the weather not being completely in our favour, this was made up for by an incredible area and most of all incredible hotel with great service at an affordable price. We were also delighted with the breakfast that came complimentary with our stay.

The staff are brilliant they can’t do enough for you a couple of hiccups were dealt with very quickly and professionally the breakfast’s were very good and Louise was great at looking after us. The only small downside was the pub next door which had very loud music one night and our room was right next o it .May be more of an issue in summer season or if you have kids.

Hope & Anchor is highly recommended

We had visited Hope Cove before and knew what to expect (fantastic walks and scenery) but we had not stayed at the Hope & Anchor, which is a St Austell pub. The staff were lovely and very friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and the balcony area for residents was a bonus, We only ate breakfast which over the three mornings that we stayed were excellent and lasted us all day. The lady attending to us at breakfast was particularly good and helpful. Our stay was to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was a great experience. We highly recommend the Hope & Anchor at Hope Cove.

Having stayed here three years ago and having loved our visit on that occasion, we were disappointed. The staff were largely dismissive and unwelcoming. Seemed rushed off their feet and unable to manage the number of guests. The food was fine but some of the breakfast was cold. The shower in our room pumped out boiling hot and then cold water and lost pressure intermittently; thankfully there was a bath too. When we left they tried to charge us despite the fact we had paid prior to arrival. Still a great location and nice to be able to take our dog but we expected much more.

The room was good but the soundproofing was inadequate- we could hear the slightest noise from the next room. The staff in the bar were very, if not too, attentive and clearly under pressure to be this way by the management. This made for an uncomfortable environment to relax in and drove us away next door to The Cove on both nights where the atmosphere was far more conducive to a good night out.
