Had a severe problem with doors slamming most of the night .
Also some guests were completely out of control with alcohol ( hotel can’t do much) but the screaming and yelling at 11-2 am wasn’t nice..
also bring your own pillows unless you like FIRM!
So all in all we wouldn’t stay there again..

Costly Stay but Quality Missing

Staff were helpful and friendly. However the lasting memory was of an expensive stay and the quality of the hotel did not live up to the rate being charged. There were other smaller things such as the bar food closing early and the cleaning of the bar floor with strong chemical while the bar was open and guests were having a drink. But these are not the main issue which was the cost of the stay.

Loved this hotel! We stayed in a family room with our 4 kids. We all loved the hotel - the Irish breakfast was fantastic, we had dinner at the restaurant and the food was good, we played mini golf, and the kids swam in the pool. Hotel is very nice and our family loved it!

Beautiful hotel, lovely grounds, great facilities and amazing breakfast. However there is an IPAS centre in the grounds. The residents of the IPAS centre pretty much take over the outdoor areas such as the play park and crazy golf. I paid quite a bit of money for this hotel and the facilities and was completly unaware of this when booking, for this reason i wouldnt return

Only small concern was that the cupboard holding the fridge needed better ventilation so the fridge would work - when the door was shut it all got very hot making the fridge less efficient.

My niece received a surprise proposal at Breaffy (both from the US and the 5th generation to be engaged on County Mayo soil) - both from the US and the staff was outstanding in their support. The staff , the grounds, the house, the engagement celebration and the follow up dinner that night was outstanding. Also really appreciated the lap pool and swam a half mile. If I have one complaint there was only one window to air my room out and it took a long time for it to get unstuffy. And this was at the beginning of May. Best to have more air circulation available- especially during the warmer months. Thank you Breaffy, for such a memorable time in every way.

The dining area are their own reward - especially at breakfast.

The hotel itself is fabulous, beautiful setting and wonderful grounds. The food for all meals was exceptional, but there was a bit of a delay with one of our kids meals. The rooms were spotless and beds really comfortable. A couple of issues, was the very noisy hallways at night, doors banging very loudy and children and adults very noisy up and down the hallways. The hall and stairs carpets badly needed to be hoovered and this didn't improve over our stay. The pool was quite cool but the changing areas were great. The staff were all very friendly and we would stay again.

Food choice limited.

A large, comfortable and quiet room. Excellent and friendly staff throughout. The restaurant did not have an a la carte menu, but a choice of two grand set menus, which was a shame as we didn’t want multiple courses each evening. We ate from the bar menu each evening, which was a bit of a let down as far as choices. The menu seemed to favour beef, chicken or vegan with no pork or lamb offerings at all. Good breakfast.
Apart from the limited food we had a pleasant stay, but I’m not sure I’d rush back until they broadened the menus.

The hotel itself was nice and the receptionist on arrival was lovely.
The room had an awful musty smell, even with the window opened the whole time we were there, you could still smell it everytime we entered the room. The bathroom and bedroom were both clean but the musty smell was not good. We should of complained when there but the hotel had to be aware of the issue as the cleaners would of smelt it but we definitely wont be staying there again.

We love everything this hotel has to offer for our family. It has everything you need for an enjoyable family break. Beautiful location, great food and a lovely atmosphere. We were very happy with our stay. Never one to complain I wish the hotel would install new door stoppers to prevent the room doors closing so loudly, that’s the only negative issue we had. stayed 3 nights, the Mulberry Restaurant offered a very good value set evening meal, using local ingredients at a reasonable cost. The grounds are extensive and worth exploring. Locally we went on the Castlebar Turlough Greenway and a visit to the national Museum for Country Life. Central location for exploring Mayo and Connemara.

The building looked beautiful. The grounds around it were beautiful. Staff were terrific. Food in the restaurant/bar was lovely.
BUT - a fire alarm went off around 6pm on Saturday - false alarm and thought nothing of it. Unfortunately it went off again at 2.15am. Reception assured us it was a false alarm.
Then it went off again 15 mins later and continued for about 10 mins. Everybody got dressed and left their rooms. Reception didn't/couldn't answer the phone. False alarm.
Morning after staff advised it was a smoker from the wedding party the night before.
Monday morning the alarm went off AGAIN at 6.30am. That was the last straw. We didn't stay our 3rd night, couldn't risk it. We're told this time it was actually a faulty alarm. Why wasn't this fixed the first time?
My partner still has ringing in her ears and may need to seek medical advice if it continues. Disappointing weekend when it promised so much.

Hellish and Dangerous. Worst Hotel Stay Ever

This was a truly horrific stay. A wedding reception was at the hotel that day and guests ran riot that night. For some insane reason management decided not to segregate wedding guests and my family was subjected to a night from hell. We literally got no sleep and despite repeatedly calling the porter and begging him to do something or call the police nothing changed. Young men running around corridors shouting and kicking doors, women screaming, loud music being played, fire alarms being set off, smoke filling the room and corridor, golf buggies being driven around outside the hotel at 4 am. I could list 101 other incidents. This went on all night until 7 am. The next morning the manager, a pathetic individual, said nothing could have been done to prevent this, nor for that matter, prevent a repeat in the future. He also blamed the police saying it was their fault for not coming to the hotel to sort out the offenders. He also said that drugs were involved! This is supposedly a family hotel. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels for work and recreational reasons but never experienced anything like this where I had to barricade the door of my bedroom for fear of what was going on outside the door. I was there with my wife and two small children and I was scared for their safety. We would have left in the middle of the night but we were terrified of what we would have encountered if we had tried to leave. The management and owners of this hotel should be ashamed of themselves.

Such an amazing hotel! We had a lovely 2 night stay with our two children. (Aged 9 & 7). Every member of staff we met was lovely- from the receptionist who checked us in to the friendly bar and waiting staff. I can’t not mention the lovely staff member (His name began with an L) at the pool who offered advice to our son on swimming techniques. He had so much patience with him and genuinely seemed to love his job! We went to the pool three times during our stay.

The food was absolutely amazing! We had beautiful food in both the bar and the restaurant. I can’t wait to come stay again

Bed was really comfortable and the children loved the bunk beds. Even the cushions were lovely!

Didn’t really like much about the hotel. The girl on check in was rude and didn’t know information about the bar food being served and what time is was closing at. Gave us the wrong time twice.
Room was very old fashioned and the bed wasn’t comfortable at all. Same as the leisure centre, it had very old facilities. Only good part was the staff in the bar area for food and drinks and then the main man who was doing the breakfast on Friday morning. Overall not a great stay at all and two stars is very generous.

The grounds and communal space of the hotel are very good. The bar food and atmosphere is better than the restaurant. Mairead who works in the bar is wonderful friendly and keeps the place flowing. The spa is nice but a let down was renovation work ongoing this should of been reflected in the price. The rooms aka the family rooms need work. The plus is they are spacious but they are not private overlooked by the garden and people out walking the grounds. The internet connection is desperate. The noise from other rooms was not acceptable. Told at reception there was not much they could do. This is also not acceptable. The pool is worth a mention also nice but work is ongoing in the area. The hotel has potential but issues need to be addressed. Starting with the internet and dated rooms. Obviously managing loud guests should be handled better.

The food and beer in the restaurant was very good .
Staff were friendly and location and parking were good .

The negative point's .

We were not told the pool was closed in advance of our stay , 4 disappointed kids .
Crazy golf was filthy with branches and pebbles.
No tennis rackets for the court .
Milk in room was spoiled .
Not enough towels had to ask reception for more.
Smell of paint in the room.
Scrambled eggs done in microwave .
I'm not in the hotel business but common sense would sort most of the negative point's .

Disappointed stay, need to up their game!

Was really looking forward to this trip as had reviewed it in detail on social media. Was disappointed by it to be honest. No AC and it was so hot. Tiny gap in the one window in the room to let some air in, really unacceptable for a \"4 Star\" hotel. They need to advertise that they have no AC.
Food in the bar restaurant was simple, not very tasty, but quite overpriced. Would recommend not eating in the hotel at all to be honest.
Breakfast was luke warm and the guy serving up the breakfast really struggled to smile, or say good morning (and we wonder why people go abroad...).
This property has so much potential, but needs a revamp. I cannot imagine going on a \"romantic getaway\" as they advertise, it really is catered for families with small children.
Lovely grounds, very safe for kids.

Unable to use pool from Tues to Friday, all booking slots were gone from time of check in, offered cancellation at 12.45 on Thursday for 1.30pm slot, we were out of the hotel at these times so unable to avail, disappointing.

Trip was very different because of covid regulations but the hotel was excellent, dispensers were everywhere, loads of areas to social distance, staff were excellent and friendly. No Complaints. 💕
