We loved our stay at Uthlid Cottages and wish we had booked more than one night! The hosts were so welcoming and the breakfast basket option they offered was superb for the reasonable price point. The location was beautiful - tucked back into the woods and thw cabin was so much bigger than we expected. Very comfortable for a family of three, great living space to hang out in. And the hot tub! Wow! Even though we arrived late, we spent hours relaxing in it after checking in and then took another soak in the morning. We would also recommend grabbing am easy dinner at their little restaurant. Good food and cute setting! 10/10 would recommend!

Cabin with Hot-Tub. Not a lot of amenities nearby so make sure you stock up prior to your stay. All mod-cons and very comfortable. We only had one bowl on arrival, but site staff sorted it. Please note that site office is only manned over limited, specific hours.

Our small cottage came with a hot tub. It was functional and comfortable. Bedrooms were tiny which would be an issue if you had a lot of luggage. There was a dishwasher.
We had dinner in the restaurant on the grounds which was convenient.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

I wish we could have booked our whole trip here. Cute cottage and my family loved the naturally heated, mineral hot tub! The cooking amenities were great! We got lots of groceries from Costco and cooked with the wonderful oven and stove top. Pick this place, dont hesitate!

The cottage was functional but quite basic and the supplies were limited to hand soap and coffee. I was also badly bitten during the night by some midge or similar although the rest of my family were not (although they noticed small flies in the bedrooms) so this was a bit unlucky.
That said I would put up with the bugs a thousand times over for the northern lights we were able to see. It was a great location.

We arrived very late, they left instructions on the reception window and a message here. Very nice to walk into a warm cabin and the hot tub. Plenty of kitchen equipment. Fast wifi, clean bathroom etc. Check out as easy as the check in. Will be back in the summer for sure and stay here

Perfect stop

Such a quiet, secluded place which a perfect stop halfway round the Golden Circle. It is so close to Geyser and Gullfoss and means you can arrive there early to beat the queues.
The cottage we stayed in was well presented and the hot tub was a nice touch. The food at the onsite restaurant was great and the owner very friendly and helpful

We loved the property. The views were breathtaking and despite the extreme weather, we were always very warm & cozy. The hot tub too was outstanding.

The one thing I would have fixed would be the issue with the locks not actually locking. I understand it is a rural area with little to no crime, but as a foreigner from a place that has plenty of crime, it was a bit worrisome leaving for the day’s excursions with the knowledge that the door could not properly lock. Even still, nothing happened which is a credit to the property and the surrounding community. We would happily stay there again and I stand by my high rating.

We’ve loved our stay in the cottage! Very clean, quiet, and safe with incredible views. We have our own private hot tub, very comfortable beds, and cozy accommodation. The restaurant staff were so friendly and kind for dinner- the food was great as well. Highly recommend the slow cooked lamb sandwich. We would definitely return and recommend to friends who visit Iceland. The price of the accommodation and food is very competitive to nearby places on the Golden Circle. We are so thankful we booked this stay!

Overpriced. The mattresses are very comfortable. Everything else is very old and not maintained. Dials on stove not readable, light on working on one hotplate only. Window in living area was leaking cold air in (1“ gap on one end). To top it all off, we had to sweep the floor and remove the garbage ourselves. Not recommending to anyone.

The property was new and in a quite area. The views were great!

However, the property was clearly not ready for us. We were unable to set up the TV because we did not have access to the WiFi password. We eventually found the info/welcome page on top of the kitchen cabinets which should have been placed in an area where it could easily be found.

The kitchen drawers had leftover dry foods left open and other things that clearly should have been cleaned up. There was some trash left behind from previous guest and the floor dustpan had way more than "dust" left in it. Bottom line, our cabin was made ready for us in a rush at best and several things got missed.

This is something that can easily be corrected for future guest and hopefully this is just a rare incident that we unfortunately encountered. All in all, it was not a big deal and didn't damper this leg of our vacation.

Hospitality by the owner was great and we appreciated her stories and knowledge of the area. All in all, it is a great place to get away from the city life!

Very Disappointing, and Dirty, Stay

Our 4 bedroom cottage at Uthlid was not clean. The floors had clearly not been cleaned in a long time as walking around in bare feet left our feet dirty on the bottom. The worst part however was the area with the hot tub which had (as an estimate) 50-60 dead flies on the window sill. The cottage clearly had not been cleaned properly in a very long time.

In addition the cottage was just not in good condition. Blankets were thrown in closets unfolded, toilet paper was missing in some bathrooms, there was a hole in the back of one of the bathroom doors, the windows were dirty, some doors (and door knobs) were loose, others we had a hard time shutting.

This was by far our least favorite (of five) places that we stayed over 11 nights in Iceland and not a place I would recommend to anyone.

Quaint Cabin in Great Location

Having our own cabin was fantastic. There was tons of space with two bedrooms and a large kitchen/living area. The bathroom was smaller with a compact shower, but the water was warm and it had a powerful spray. The beds were comfortable with extra pillows. The area was very quiet and was easy to access.

Wifi was only available in certain areas of the cabin and we often had to move around to connect. That was the one improvement we would recommend.

Location was very convenient for exploring the Golden Circle. We recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for two nights in October 2022. Our cottage had three small rooms- a living room/kitchenette and two bedrooms, plus bathroom/shower.
Pros: - location worked great for us- 10 min. driving to Geysir, 15 min driving to the waterfall, also 10 min opposite direction to the gas station and minimart.
- host was very friendly and sincere, really willing to create a welcoming atmosphere
- The breakfast we ordered (cost $12 per person ) was pretty good- cereal, coffee, bread, ham and cheese, milk and orange juice, boiled eggs in a basket that you are supposed to pick up from the restaurant the night before.
- Beds were comfortable
- You will have everything necessary for making your own meals in the kitchenette- plates, utensils, pots and pans, fridge, coffeemaker, kettle, microwave.
- There is a hottub in the common area (we didn’t have time to use it)
Cons:
-major disappointment was complete absence of wi-fi the first day (the host was trying to solve the problem but didn’t succeed), the second night we were able to get some signal but it was too weak and we got disconnected every twenty minutes. Don’t choose this place if you are dependent on the wi-fi to work remotely or to do anything else.
- This place needs better cleaning- some utensils were in the drawer unwashed after previous guests, plates in the cupboard greasy. Many kitchen appliances and places need to be cleaned as well.
Also our living room needed shades or curtains.

What they claim to be 'beautiful view over South Iceland' was in fact a view over a service road as the cottage was in the bushes. The cottage was quite outdated and dirty. The inside of the cottage has been partly renovated but was very dirty, we found food packaging from long ago under the bed and broken mirror in a drawer. When traveling with small children they will explore. The deck in the porch and entrance was in quite a poor condition and in need of some repairs.

When we arrived there was a hot tub full of cold water and no heating. Although they sorted out the problem we had to wait a few good hours to heat the cottage.

Not very good experience, looks like they are all about mass tourism. We have been several times in Iceland, stayed in over 10 different accommodations and sadly this was the most disappointing experience.

We enjoyed our stay at Uthild. The cottages are a nice alternative to the hotels and guesthouses we stayed in elsewhere. The cottage was rustic and sufficient, which fit the rural setting nicely. It seems like there was some expectation that guests clean the cottage upon departure, which felt strange. Also, the onsite pool was one of the reasons I chose to stay here with my son. It was closed and the hot tub was lukewarm. The pool looks like it had been closed for a long time, so I would have appreciated knowing that in advance.

The cottage was clean and well maintained. We could not lock the doors from the inside which we found disconcerting. Reception does not open until 4 pm so don’t think you will get in before then. As it was, we had to phone as there was no one there by 4:10 and it had been a long day of travelling for us. It would have been nice to have gotten in earlier. We did ask to switch cottages to one with a hot tub which they did for us with an additional cost. No coffee or tea so be sure to bring your own.

Everything was great!

Charming cottages. We had three people in our party (my wife, daughter, and me). Our cottage was a two-bedroom.
Beds were comfy. Bathroom was clean and sizable. Sitting/Kitchen areas were comfy and spacious. We had a stove, fridge, etc., but never used them.
We arrive past check-in and they left a note and a map for us on the window of the kitchen door. Very nice touch!
My only complaint is that we couldn't really find the jacuzzi. My daughter expressed an interest in using it (she loves water!), but when it took a little bit of effort to locate it, she just decided to go to bed.

We got a free upgrade from an economic cottage to one with it’s own hot tub, we ordered food a few minutes before the closing time which was no issue at all for the staff plus the food was delivered to the doorstep of our cottage! The cottage was surrounded by beautiful nature and this night was a lovely experience for us. The view from the cabin is incredible. Warm and cosy inside. Spacious for 4 people and ample bedding. Kitchen is reasonably well stocked but was missing some utensils and pots. BBQ grill worked okay.
Water contains sulphur which although drinkable, leaves the water smelling bad. Deck around the exterior needed work, spa was extremely hot (unbearable to use actually).

A great location - fabulous accommodation

Fantastic, extremely spacious lodge and the hot tub was a great experience which we all enjoyed. The views were to die for.... The facilities were great and were sad to only enjoy this for one night. We did witness the Northern Lights ..... fantastic!!! Would stay again but for longer.

great place and great location, cozy cottages and staff is excellent.
I wished it was a bit cleaner.
