My wife, son and I stayed here and felt very welcome by the friendly owners and their staff. Breakfast is fantastic! Location is great, a good variety of restaurants within walking distance. Rooms nice and clean. We look forward to staying again upon our return to Luang Prabang. Highly Recommend.

Room had many large bugs and geckos, including the biggest cockroach! When we told the staff, they just offered to kill the insects, and didn’t offer for us to switch rooms or any other services. The place feels run down. The shower is in the same area as the toilet with nothing separating them, so the toilet gets wet when you shower. One big perk is free drinking water.

Staff were helpful, owners served breakfast each morning, which was AMAZING! I stayed on the second floor, room #5. Hotel was quiet because all the guests (except 1) made an effort to be quiet and respectful (walls are thin). It was a basic hotel, cute balconies, bathroom light didn’t always work and the bed was hard as a rock but otherwise I liked the place and would recommend.

Highly recommended.

Wonderful owners and staff who have a wealth of knowledge about the area. Great breakfast and comfortable bed. My only complaint is how thin the walls are meaning you can hear what is happening in surrounding rooms. Definitely better than 2 stars. Highly recommended.

Very quirky little place , amazing people who are prepared to help you st any point.
We were upgraded to a delux room with a balcony and views were just outstanding of the river - very relaxing to have a cup of coffee in a morning.
It’s a little walk of 15min to the night market.
To get to hotel from airport we would recommend capturing the tuk tuk for 40KIP (around $4)

Great breakfast ! Cooked to order and fruits , pancake , good strong coffee.

If only one down side we just couldn’t get WiFi connection in a room

I would definitely recommend and be back again!

Excellent two-week stay!

My husband and I stayed at Cold River for two weeks while I caught up on some work during a year-long trip. I cannot recommend it enough. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is nice, and the hosts are incredibly helpful and kind. They helped us arrange at tuk tuk for the day to tour the waterfalls and graciously kept our bags for us while we went to the elephant center. If you're looking at a lot of options, close the other windows and book it.

My advices to those who wish to stay in this Cold River hotel better to check clearly with the hotel owner. A lot of restrictions with the hotel operator.
Very disappointed to stay in this hotel and my holiday mood is affected by them.

Loved Cold River in Luang Prabang

This was a great place to stay! We stayed 5 nights and loved the hotel and the city. The hotel is in a quiet area outside of the touristy area but within walking distance (for us about 15 minutes) of the tourist streets (restaurants, bars, shops, night market, etc.). Breakfast was great with fruit, yogurt, coffee or tea, baguette and hot options. They has refillable water bottles for use and a couple filtration locations for filling up, in an effort to decrease waste from buying lots of bottled water!! The staff were friendly and many spoke English well. We had laundry done and the rate was good and done quickly. Wifi was OK in room.

Very friendly staff, happy to help and advise for the local area and sort an effiecient laundry service. The room was excellent - very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was also excellent - consisting of crepes and fresh fruit, then eggs and fresh bread and jams, all delicious. Last but not least, the plastic reduction measures of the owners (filtered water refill only) were a pleasant and appreciated touch.

Pleasant hotel with generous delicious breakfast!

Upon checking in, our room were upgraded. The receptionist was friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The place was quiet although near to the city center. Everything (bar, restaurant, wat, night market, mini mart) were within walking distance. The breakfast provided was hearty, delicious and generous (Options of scrambled egg, omelette, boiled egg or noodle soup + bread with fruit jam and butter + coffee/tea + cinnamon crepe + fruit salad + greek yogurt. If I ever were back in L.P., I would definitely go back there!

The French couple running this hotel have a very smooth and efficient operation. Very friendly and helpful both in hotel and arranging anything in Luang Prabang. Breakfast excellent.
Excellent location just out of centre (15 minute walk). Some restaurants in area that serve good food and much cheaper than restaurants found in the tourist zone on same street as night market - would not like to stay near night market - too touristy for me.

A nice spot. French couple are amicable. Seems to attract French guests in particular. Lovely breakfast sit outside fresh coffee, yoghurt, fruit, cake/crepe, noddles/omlette, homemade jams - some just come for breakfast. Can be noisy depending on your neighbours and their consideration, as wooden. Get a balcony view. $10 airport pick up but heard you can easily get this from airport. They offer plenty of free water refillable.

Quiet friendly guesthouse

This guesthouse was lovely! Friendly helpful staff. Quiet location close to the river (river views from our balcony!) but short walking distance to restaurants, markets, Mekong etc.

Room was comfortable. Our bathroom was tiny (shower over the toilet) however our friends had newer and bigger bathrooms.

Breakfasts were delicious - fruit, beautiful bread and jams, several hot meal choices.

I would definitely recommend this place to others.

I stayed here with my mother for 5 nights. At first we were unable to sleep due to the noise from the rooster close by (maybe be are light sleepers!) but this was corrected and we were moved to a more comfortable room thanks to the wonderful hotel owners.
The rooms are cleaned daily, breakfast is beautiful and the staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Also within good walking distance to food and markets!

We were given an upgrade for the first few nights of our stay which was really lovely and much appreciated. Though a little further from the main bit of town, the location is beautiful and quiet. Our only annoyance is that apparently breakfast was included in our room price, but this was never mentioned to us so we never took advantage of this perk.

A cozy home away from home

The owners of Cold River were incredibly warm and accommodating. The staff was also incredibly helpful. They know Luang Prabang well and they are eager to help with tourism decisions.

The breakfast was phenomenal and the room was as good as any guesthouse room I've experienced in SE Asia. I would recommend Cold River to any of my friends or family visiting Luang Prabang. I have no doubt that if I stayed there longer than the 2 nights I did, I would have been comfortable the entire time.

In the heart of Luang Prabang ... Cold River

Cold River is a small boutique hotel in the heart of Luang Prabang. It is a very peaceful place, easy to relax and come and go as you please. The French couple who run the hotel are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much to ask. From beginning the day taking your time over a delicious breakfast in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere to ending your day with a gorgeous sunset and stroll through the streets to \"home\" the experience was very pleasurable. To fill in your day there are many sights very nearby and others further out can be reached by tuk tuk. There were always drivers in and around the area to negotiate with but if you mentioned where you wanted to go Rudi was very quick to get transportation organised with reliable, careful drivers. So much is within walking distance that varying the route each day opened up new experiences to life in Luang Prabang where the people are generally very friendly. Luang Prabang is definitely a beautiful place to visit, and Cold River is a great place to stay, especially for people on a budget as their rates are very reasonable.

A gem of a place

A group of us stayed in Cold River for a few days. Rudy and his wife and staff were the most accommodating and hospitable hosts. They were gracious and were able to answer our questions and fulfill our requests.
I highly recommend this property and will come back here again if given the chance.

Cold River is run by some really nice people who are eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is really nicely decorated. Breakfast in the morning is quite good. The location was central, though the inn was down a very long narrow street that our van driver struggled to pass through. The room was big and spacious. I think they are in the process of renovating, so hopefully they will be updating the bathroom. The shower is just a nozzle attached to the wall and it isn't separated in any way from the toilet or the rest of the bathroom. The Wi-Fi was spotty, though if you told them it wasn't working, they would restart the router and that would work for a while. There isn't a hairdryer in the room, but you can borrow one from the front desk.

We had a good stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was our best yet in SE Asia. The room had a nice design however the bathroom had a bad smell, bugs and a shower over the toilet which is frustrating to use. The location was a 15 minute walk to town - I would prefer a more central location given that Luang Prabang is a small town.

Comfy stay & nice breakfast

Our overal stay here was generally very nice. The mattress comfy & breakfast good, as well as friendly couple who own the hotel.

The only minor issue was that we booked a double room, however the day before we were told we could only have a twin room as they thought they had emailed us previously. Fortunately, the room was spacious enough & even had a balcony with a great view of the river, so we didn't mind.

Also, bare in mind before going out in the evening that the gates are locked at midnight!

We were warmly welcomed by Marion, one of the owners. The hotel is located on a quiet lane off of a busy street. Rooms are a bit small, but have nice balconies. Purified water in hallways. Yummy breakfast. Staff is very helpful .

This hotel is run by a very helpful french couple they are a great insite for things to do while you stay here. Hiring bikes was really fun way to explore the town. They also orginised a airport drop off for us. Breakfast is simple European style. Its a little hard to find but the town is small.

A quiet guesthouse near the river

Cold River is a quiet guesthouse at the end of a narrow cobblestone lane. It is currently undergoing some renovations of the internal rooms. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful and have a good knowledge of the facilities and attractions of Luangprabang. Relatively close to the city centre most city attractions are within easy walking distance. The guesthouse is close to the river and you can get glimpses of the river from some of the rooms.
The internal rooms have no views and a very cosy, however these are in the process of being upgraded. Breakfast in the courtyard is delightful with a changing choice each day. Well recommended for a few relaxing days.

We booked for a standard room but the manager ended up upgrading our room since there was no double. We booked for extra two nights and those nights she let us stay in the same room which was very convenient. The breakfast was my favorite part of this guesthouse. It is really satisfying. The guesthouse is about 15 minutes walk to the center but I would highly recommend this guesthouse for comfor and cleanliness.

The Cold River was a great place to base our time in Luang Prabang. The staff were helpful and very friendly; breakfast was wonderful and the wifi worked well. The hotel also provides laundry services for the same price found throughout town.

It is a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of the town, but the roads felt safe and it didn't bother us. Great place to stay, highly recommend (although ask for a room away from the main lobby, it can get noisy) and we would stay again.

The staff at Cold River were great. They quickly resolved an error during check-in, and offered great advice during our stay. Our room was comfortable, the a/c fantastic (key in this town) and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was also very good. The location is a short 10 minute walk to the centre, and there are lots of options for food along the way.

I would recommend asking for a room off the main lobby if you're a light sleeper (the sound carries into the rooms). The pillows are also very hard. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time staying there and would recommend them!

Very clean and comfortable room, aircon and water shower pressure are excellent.
Breakfast is delicious; yogurt with seasonal fruits, bread with homemade jam, fried eggs on your choice with coffee or tea.
My small complaint is there're some mosquitos in the room and WiFi sometimes not work well.
Overall is very recommended place to stay in Luang Prabang.

Hidden Gem, The Best Hotel in Luang Prabang.

I cannot speak highly enough about Cold River, but I will still try. This is probably the favorite place we have stayed in the past few years and is THE place to stay in Luang Prabang. For starters, the owners are delightful people who will ensure that anything or everything you need is accommodated. The other staff is also polite and engaging. We loved and HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting the breakfast, it is one of the things we will miss most from our stay. The room was spacious and comfortable and the location is quiet. The wifi works well and we found ourselves opting to enjoy the hot afternoons in the room since it was so comfortable. We will never stay at another place in Luang Prabang, they've got us as customers anytime we are able to make it back to LP.

Cold river was a wonderful place for us to stay. The owners were SO welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. Just a ten minute walk from the Main Street with the night market. You have beautiful views of the river. The breakfast there was amazing! Rooms were stayed very cute and were clean and comfortable!
