A spectucular location with great views from the east bank of the Mekong River of the broad river, boats on it, and the surrounding karst mountains in the near distance beyond. Peaceful and beautifully maintained acres of landscaped gardens. Historic home of former revered Lao Prince. Good AC, wifi, shower or tub bath. Pool was wonderful with very nice chaise lounges and umbrellas but only about 8 of them, not enough if there are many people using it. Very good food options, both western and Southeast Asian. Some issues with food needing to be brough on trays from seperate kitchen, some dishes arrived only warm. Lovely decor. Cable TV is not all that good, less than strong signal, only a few channels in English. Free shuttle service seven times a day into LP city 2.5 miles away. Friendly service, Stephen the operations manager very helpful and speaks good English. Limited English from the friendly staff. Well managed and clean.

My family loved our stay here. The staff were very helpful with every one of my requests. The views of the Mekong were unbeatable; watching the river cruises at night was stunning from the bar/restaurant; saying that, I think the bar/restaurant could have used another server. I really enjoyed the water buffaloes on staff :) greeting us on the way to breakfast, nice touch. Shuttles to the city were convenient. Gym was decent, and the spa massages were very good. The pool could use an update. Overall, excellent and relaxing stay. We enjoyed being a little way from the city.

Great grounds. Brilliant view. We had the Exec Suite and it was clean , very big and very comfortable. All Staff were amazing and friendly and ever so helpful. Swimming pool was big and when we went the water was a perfect temperature. Breakfast setting was lovely, overlooking the river and the food was great. Resort is about 10 mins from the town on a scooter however they also offer a free shuttle which we used a couple of times. Resort is very peaceful and I would highly recommend staying here . If we visit again we will definitely stay again

An oasis of peace

This hotel was a welcome relief from the noise of other hotels where we had stayed. We enjoyed our three days here, although there were lots of glitches and irritating problems along the way. We were just glad to be in a beautiful location which was quiet.
The location is stunning and, whilst the breakfast was limited, the internet dropped out a few times, the service was patchy and the English speaking capability of staff is highly problematic, you'll still have a great time here. Each day the hotel organises a trip. We took the sunset cruise and was happy with it. We loved seeing the water buffalo too. To understand the hotel and avoid frustration just know that this is a very good 3 star hotel in a 5 star location. If you book with this in mind you won't be disapointed.

Preservation of its historical importance is an added bonus. The property is secluded, quite and has one of the best views on Luangprabang. Would definitely return.

My only complaint is the shuttle to town and airport is not on schedule and available when needed. Had to call for a taxi service.

We spend 5 days at this resort,we had a wonderful time,the location is perfect,right on the river with amazing views from our room,specially in the early morning,just sitting outside and enjoy the river view.
The staff are very friendly and the breakfast buffet is brilliant!
We highly recommend this resort ,if you want to stay in the quiet part of Luang Prabang away from the main town,it only takes 5 minutes in a motorcycle tuk tuk or the free van shuttle the resort provides to the centre,when you there,there are plenty of nice restaurants and bars and excellent coffeehouses.

While the location on the river is beautiful, everything else about this hotel is disappointing. The customer service is horrible, the property is ageing and in need of repairs, we were charged extra for a second bed despite the reservation being for 3 people, things weren’t as discribed on the website (no water buffaloes ever roamed the grounds during our stay, the nightly boat to downtown wasn’t available when we inquired, etc). In short, we will be back to visit Luang Prabang but we will not return to this hotel.

Amazing georgraohical and historical setting, rooms have a great colonial taste. Great logistics, easy to get into town with their nearby drivers. Could refresh the rooms in particular the bathrooms, not matching a 5* standing. Also the pool is big but the area a bit neglected.

Amazing location with signature views of the Mekong River. The whole facility is beautifully set in the landscape. The staff is courteous and helpful. But the rooms and the bathrooms should use a remodeling. The furniture is rather old, there are no king-size beds but two beds put together, the lights switches behind the bed are very inconvenient and the bathroom had a sewer smell. But overall it was still a beautiful and memorable experience staying there.

A quiet resort away from town, but for the price we paid, the breakfast wasn't very good, the shower pressure was low (and the hot water didn't work well) and the walls were quite thin that we could always hear people talking when they walked along the corridor. They were sweet to leave cookies on Christmas eve though...

Beautiful property with location just next to Mekong river. The room was good and staff was good. The only con I would say was that the property was a little away from the downtown so you would have to rely on tuk-tuk or taxi to get back n forth. The hotel has free shuttle for this.

This hotel is located next to the Mekong River. It is a very beautiful at night and has various shuttle services. The staffs were well versed in English and were attentive to my needs. It is located away from the busy downtown area which is good for a peaceful and quite stay. I highly recommend it.

Everything great except for breakfast.need bacon and cheese and total overall of breakfast concept.less things needed but far better quality.need simple things like pancakes for kids.egg station put in onions when I specifically requested none very clearly.just too much average food.this makes or breaks a hotel!!! Concierge and front staff very helpful.should have free shuttle at all times as hotel is far away and restricts customers.if they had all free all time shuttle this hotel would be full..oh add a few umbrellas as choice for pool deck.lovely pool.just no shade.amazing position.needs need more of a woman's touch to make a big difference.a bit like a museum.

Some benches in the gardens would be good.Staff extremely friendly.

Main challenge is to turn the breakfast into a more intimate experience of better quality.doesnt have to try to have all options.focus on quality

This is an outstanding hotel and very well run. Everyone friendly and ready to help - facilities, bar and restaurant to very very high standard. Would come again for sure. t is ten minutes into town by complimenary minibus, but dont let that sway your choice - the location is just perfect and peacefull - view of Mekong and hills is outstanding. Would definately reccomend and will be back in a few weekstime for another stay.

Pleasant gem in Luang Prabang

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Luang Prabang. While it was a 10 min ride from the city center, hotel's shuttle service made things much easier. Breakfast, pool and overall service were all top knotch. We would come back to Luang Prabang just for the hotel!

Grand hotel not grand

This is not a 4 or 5 stars hotel despite its grandiose picture advertised online.
It’s a huge place but everything looks old and not very well kept. The most important part of a luxury hotel is service and they have no concept of service. Most staff members speak little English and cannot offer assistance. My wife was ill and it was like pulling teeth to get help to get to a pharmacy. It’s also isolated and far from town with nothing to do there.

Beautiful resort; staff needs business training

It’s a beautiful hotel, but we had quite a few issues at check in. First, my husband and I were placed in a connecting room with a family that had screaming kids and a baby. The door between us was so thin - we could every word they were saying.

I went to reception and asked them why on earth of all rooms to put us in, they put us into a connecting room with a family. The toilet also didn’t work.
They then move us to a room with twin beds... so I get annoyed because why didn’t they prep the room before we got there? I pushed the beds together myself with my husband.

After we get settled in, reception shows us saying they have an upgrade for us to a room with a king bed. This is great and I appreciated it, but why didn’t they do that BEFORE we got settled into the 2nd room. The staff said they had to call the manager to see if it was okay - this should’ve been done immediately when we’d complained the first time. So we then moved to our THIRD room.

Otherwise, the rooms were nice. Bed was comfy. View is beautiful.

Great room, decent service, breathtaking view of the Mekong. Great staff, but a few glitches with the facilities. One time, found cigarette butts all over the dining area toilet seat. The pool was out of order and looked like it had not been cleaned for a month.

The Grand Luang Prabang

The Grand Luang Prabang’s location away from the town centre is an advantage as it is quiet & not so dusty. The vast grounds on which the hotel is built gives a sense of spaciousness. We stayed in a room facing the Mekong River which is so relaxing, just soaking in the view. Hotel is clean & the staff are exceptionally helpful especially the 2 front desk receptionists named Lar &
Somsak. We really appreciate the daily free shuttle between the hotel & town centre. However, it would be better if the hotel can slot in an extra pick-up time between 1pm & 5.30pm.
The only complaints I have is that the beds creak each time we sat on it, & some improvement can be made on their buffet breakfast.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to friends & family as it is good value for money.

The hotel The Grand lies in a park-like property directly at the Mekong. Everything is pretty well maintained.
Very quiet and nice for the family, it has a large pool.
Even the hotel is quite far from the city center, there is a bus shuttle, which brings you into the city.

Gorgeous hotel with magnificent grounds and views

After 5 nights in town we decided to stay further out for our last two nights in Luang Prabang. The Grand is the former residence of Lao nationalist hero Prince Phetsarath, set in spacious beantifully maintained grounds right next to the Mekong River. Our big ground-floor room was light and airy, and we could sit outside admiring the views and the river as it meandered past.

The buffet-style breakfast was quite a spread, including healthy fruit smoothies, noodles and other usual offerings, but the piece de resistance was tucking into all this whilst enjoying the gorgeous, serene atmosphere.

In one of the corridors hangs a poster of a humorous and touching letter written by the former GM about the resident water buffaloes and how they came to be there - you can see them wallowing in the muddy lake in one corner of the large (59,000 sq metre) grounds.

My only gripe (which I have mentioned to management) was that the bedside lamps are controlled by just one switch - so whoever is on the side without the switch has to fumble their way in the dark (although they did thoughtfully leave a torch on the table!).

Although The Grand is situated a bit far out of town there is a free shuttle provided which was great as it meant we went in every evening for dinner and wander around the night market but were back to rest before bed.

All in all I would definitely recommend The Grand Luang Prabang, and would love to stay here again if we ever go back to this fascinating city!

This is a classic hotel

The Grand is a wonderful hotel in a beautiful country. Rooms are well equipped, WiFi works well, restaurant overlooks the river creating a wonderful ambiance. The country is beautiful. This trip is mostly about getting out in Nature. The Grand is a great place to call home during your adventures.. It is not super high end luxury, rather classic elegance. We enjoyed our stay and would return if our travels bring us back to Lao.

The Grand is Grand

The Grand Luang Prabang is a beautiful, classic hotel with all rooms having a view of the Mekong River. Garden, pool, restaurant, bar, lobby - all keep the style and with a small, interesting, on location, museum telling the story of one of Laos' most important persons the past 100 years. Very good and highly service minded staff. Quiet location 5-10 minutes from the city Centre. We will come back :-)

Had a wonderful stay at The Grand Luang Prabang. Terrific staff, very helpful and courteous. The Hotel grounds were immaculate and appropriately decorated. Great breakfast buffet every morning. Very nice bar to have a drink at and watch the sun set. There is a lot of history on the grounds of the hotel. Can't wait to come back and see LP again!!!

A tranquil retreat with idyllic grounds

The Grand Luang Prabang is a hidden gem. Set just past the edges of town, with sprawling and beguilingly landscaped grounds on the banks of the Mekong, the Grand's main attraction is beauty and tranquility. The best reason for choosing to stay here is to have a peaceful and beautiful retreat away from the action, while still being just about 10-20 minutes from the heart of Luang Prabang (by car or bicycle, respectively).

The building itself is a colonial-era relic, with all the creaky charm and old-fasionedness that goes with that. The stunning beauty of the places is provided not so much by the built environment as by the natural one: the view of the Mekong across the lotus ponds, the well-pruned trees, the gardens, and the lovingly-placed floral ornaments.

The WiFi in the room was usually working but often too slow for anything but the most patient web browsing. I had better luck taking my laptop to the lobby, where the WiFi was still not \"fast\" by international standards but usable enough.

There's a free shuttle to and from town on a fixed schedule (with the shuttles into town being more frequent and convenient than those returning from town). Guests can also book the shuttle at other (non-scheduled) times for 20k kip per passenger.

The hotel also offers bicycles at 10,000 kip (~$1.25 US) per half day or double that for a full day, which was only a little more than the rates in town, and the ride is quite pleasant.

If we had known in advance that the pool & driveway were under construction/ renovation I doubt if we would have stayed here.
No compensation was offered for the inconvenience & the mud.
I assume by now the construction has been completed & I would stay here again without hesitation
The management & staff are very professional,friendly, efficient, courteous & respectful.

An oasis in the city

The Grand Hotel was in a sublime setting overlooking the Mekong. Beautiful grounds and rooms faced the river. The food was very good and the service excellent with great staff who were more than willing to help. Wifi not good and often failed however this is true of all of LPB. The hotel is currently undergoing restoration with the pool not available and part of the entrance to the hotel under construction. This however did not detract from the peaceful ambiance and wonderful fauna and flora. The hotel is situated a short bus ride out of the city. A Tuk tuk costs very little to get back to the hotel. There is a free shuttle bus that goes to and from the town and was very useful both ways. They also do a free airport shuttle form the hotel to the airport. We eat in the hotel restaurant on the first night and the food was well cooked and great value for money with the service second to none.

The hotel staff were fabulous, lucky as we had old and new manager. The courtesy bus is great. A look at the waterfall bears and butterflies great.
The water buffalo that belong to hotel are great and breakfast looking out over Mekong. Good value.
