I had a lovely stay at Hali Country Hotel. The location was incredibly convenient for visiting Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, which made it a perfect stop while exploring this part of the South Coast.

The hotel itself had beautiful views of the ocean, and the setting felt peaceful and scenic. My room was comfortable, clean, and cozy, with a very comfortable bed and cute pink bedding that made it feel extra charming. The bathroom was also nice and felt updated and easy to use.

One of the best parts was having a great restaurant right on site. After a long day of exploring, it was so nice not to have to drive anywhere for dinner. The whole stay felt easy, comfortable, and very Icelandic in the best way.

Overall, Hali Country Hotel was a great place to stay if you are visiting the glacier lagoon area. I would definitely recommend it for the location, views, comfort, and convenience.

The room was clean but very basic. The curtains were not blackout, which is tough in Iceland summers. The handle on our door was broken, which led to some safety concerns for us but thankfully we were only there for one night.

Our accommodation was really quite large. There was plenty of space to put your luggage etc. I didn’t like that this was a rather expensive hotel and that no breakfast was included in the price. Also, there was no fridge in the room..only a small bar fridge in the common area. The hotel does have a restaurant and we decided to eat dinner there. I was actually rather disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food for the prices being charged. I had the lamb schnitzel dinner. This problem was that the lamb had not been pounded thin enough and the coating was not crisp and the flavour of the coating was odd. Also, the mashed potatoes were not smooth at all…just roughly mashed. It was more like a homemade meal made by someone that doesn’t like cooking very much. Ok but not great. And really not great for the price charged.

Nice Place, friendly staff. Good views all around the property. A museum on the property that they allow you access to when checking in. Very Interesting. I did not make the dinner in the restaurant but the breakfast was very good. Fresh Lamb on the menu right from their farm. Delicious! Gift shop and book store in lobby. Room had sitting chairs, a work desk and chair, Good bed, good shower, comfortable pillows. The lobby of the building had free coffee and tea station 24/7 and a sitting area. Over all was a pleasant stay and would stay here again. Thank You

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at Hali Country Hotel. The complimentary breakfast was a highlight, featuring delicious homemade breads and freshly prepared lamb, with a wide variety of fresh and abundant options each day. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and we especially appreciated the all-day coffee and tea station available in our building.

Dinner (at an additional cost) was also excellent, with the lamb chops being a standout. In the evenings, the views around the hotel were simply breathtaking, adding to the overall experience.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay, and we absolutely loved it!

Nice place to stop if driving through and weather forces you to stay. Pretty ocean view.
Really no amenities. Warm enough water for showering. Waited for it to get hotter as the sign said, but it never got to hot. There was a bus tour there when I stayed, so it wasn't quiet by any means.

We had a wonderful overnight stay at Hali Country Hotel during our road trip, and it was exactly what we needed. The setting is peaceful and scenic, making it a perfect stop to relax and recharge.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-kept, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was warm and welcoming. After a long day of driving and exploring, it was the ideal place to unwind.

We enjoyed the museum and the book-themed restaurant building. We are dinner here and it was great, though expensive. Overall good value.

The check in the man was rude pretended to not speak English. 5 min later we catch him in full English conversation. We were not given any details about breakfast, pool or spa. Had to wonder around and try to figure it all out. Couldn’t get in anywhere to use hot tub or pool. Breakfast was packed and limited food. So if you were not there 1st you basically got nothing.

We enjoyed our stay at Hali country hotel. It was very close the Jokulsarlon and Diamond Beach. Our room was clean and comfortable. We ate dinner at the restaurant and the seafood soup and the artic char were both delicious. The included breakfast buffet was good as well. After dinner, we walked through the museum on the property, which we thought was interesting. Our only complaint was that the one communal fridge was very small and we couldn't put any of our food in it. (Just so you can prepare for that). Overall, great stay and would recommend.

Hali Country Hotel feels more like a budget motel than a traditional hotel, but it serves its purpose for a short stopover in the area.

When you first arrive off the main road, you’ll see the museum, restaurant, and reception building. It’s best not to unload your bags right away when checking in, as the rooms are located about 400 meters further down the property, closer to the sea. The route to the rooms takes you past several residential-looking buildings and a commercial property. Check-in was very quick—no passport was needed.

Room 13:
The room was a decent size, featuring two chairs, side tables, a dresser with a chair, and a basic white cupboard. The decor was very simple: baby blue walls with white wooden furniture. It was quite warm inside, with a lovely view of the mountains. However, there were no in-room coffee or tea-making facilities—these are available in a communal building with a coffee station and shared seating area.

The bed was not very comfortable—more of a limp twin setup than a proper double. There was no kettle, no shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion provided. However, a hairdryer was available. The blackout curtains were ineffective, letting in a significant amount of light at night.

Bathroom:
Surprisingly spacious, but there was a small window that looked directly toward a neighboring building, which raised some privacy concerns—though it did help with ventilation.

Breakfast offered a basic selection: cold cuts (some good lamb slices

I loved it here in the middle of nature. The hotel lobby had free coffee and tea I could grab any time. There is a sigular communal mini fridge in the lobby if you needed to store one or two things. Check-in was easy at the reception that was in the restaurant/museum building separate from the building with the rooms. We ate at the restaurant and I enjoyed the tender Arctic Char. A bit pricey, but nice after a long day.

Very good location for visiting the glacier and lagoon. Nice restaurant and included breakfast. Also included was a visit to a museum on site about a famous Iceland writer. Other than staff and the customer service, there was nothing pleasant about this property. These are the following issues i encountered:
- Bugs on the comforter. Saw it crawling in the middle of the night
- The comforters were smelly
- Room was extremely hot in the middle of the night. The thermostat in the room doesn’t work. If there is no AC on the property, they should arrange for a fan in the room

It was full upper level of a beautiful cottage (which they call apartment). The breakfast had a wide spread and lot of deli made with Lamb meat.

I can see why Hali Country Hotel gets good ratings. The rooms are small and very basic, but they are extremely clean and have a private bathroom which is priceless lol The property is beautiful, and it’s a pleasure just to walk around, but the restaurant is a real stand out. The food was wonderful, and it is attached to a museum which was also an unexpected pleasure. The entire staff was delightful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Very quiet area. The cottage was huge and very clean. It was also very quiet. However, if you are thinking about booking here, you should know that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. There are no grocery stores or restaurants nearby. They have a restaurant, but the menu is limited and not kid friendly. Our room had a kitchenette so, if we had known about the limited options for dinner, we would have bought groceries in Vik.

Beautiful property right on the water with a view of the glacier. The beds were very comfy after our long days of exploring eastern Iceland. Food was delicious and plentiful. We loved how adorable our apartment was.

Very sweet and helpful staff. We woke up to a flat tire. The hotel staff was so sweet and let us hang in out room for an extra hour past checkout just so we had a place to sit and wait for roadside assistance. Just said they would clean our room last.

The museum was really neat too! I actually had no interest initially, but I am really glad we spent the time to wander through. It was very interesting!

This is an absolutely beautiful location with friendly staff, great food, and clean, comfortable rooms for a reasonable price. The property feels homey, and we would have loved to stay longer than just one night. The were very accommodating to add a fourth bed to a 3-person room, and though they said it would be tight, there was still plenty of space. The restaurant was very expensive, even by Icelandic standards, but the food was good and the convenience of eating on the property after a long day of activities was great. Breakfast was perfect with a lot of homemade items.

I was quite disappointed with the cleanliness of the apartment. The kitchen utensils—including pots, pans, cutlery, plates, and cups—clearly had not been properly cleaned. Many of the items were put away wet, which was unhygienic and unpleasant. It appeared as though the property relies on guests to clean their own dishes, but for the price I paid, I expected a higher standard of housekeeping and a thorough clean between stays.
The bathroom was also lacking in basic amenities. There were no toiletries provided, apart from a single bottle of hand wash. Additionally, there was no shower caddy or shelf to place our own products, which made things inconvenient.
On a more positive note, the staff at both the reception and the onsite restaurants were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included in our stay and officially started at 7:30am. Since we had an early departure, the staff kindly offered to prepare packed breakfasts for us, which we really appreciated.
Another major convenience is that if you're joining a tour with Glacier Adventure, their pickup point is located just outside the property—very handy for early starts.
While the location and staff were excellent, the lack of cleanliness and basic amenities in the apartment really detracted from the overall experience.
