A lovely, relaxing place to stay in a beautiful pastoral setting located just 20 minutes from the ice lagoon - in my opinion the most beautiful spot in Iceland! Our room was very clean, bright and spacious with great views. Our hostess was helpful and offered freshly baked cookies to all. The exterior is not imposing but the inside is well appointed and kitchen facilities good. The bathrooms also were clean and well appointed. I would recommend it to anyone not looking for ultra-modern accommodation!

We booked this guesthouse through Hotels.com which indicates that you need to call in advance as there is no reception staff. We had a hard time getting our call through by using the phone number indicated on Hotels.com website. It took a long time and two attempts to get someone on the phone, and we were told that someone will be there at our arrival.
We got to the guesthouse, but no one in sight. We tried again to call, but to no avail, and started panicking as we were far away from any location where we could have found other accommodations! We noticed two different phone numbers on the door. We called the first one, no answer! We called the 2nd one, and finally we got someone on the phone.
So, the check-in nothing to be impressed with!
The property: The exterior made us wonder if we had made the worst decision in terms of accommodations for our two-week trip to Iceland. The photos do not reflect the reality. The stairs badly need renovations. The building is old.
The room: regular, shared bathroom. We didn’t appreciate the idea of tiding the shower/bathroom, as we think that THAT is the host’s “prerogative\"!
Kitchen can’t be used by guests, breakfast - nothing special, with few things available, small quantities, 30 minutes to help yourself while others are waiting in line behind you AND eat!!! The host stares at you all along, and makes you uncomfortable while you eat or pick up food as it's time to leave as per her rules!
We didn't feel comfortable nor welcome!

This is a truly charming place to stay—spotlessly clean with spacious bathrooms, especially compared to other places we've stayed. The breakfast is a real highlight and a big bonus. The host was so kind and attentive. The view from the bedroom window was brilliant. In the heart of the Icelandic countryside. Incredibly we were certain we even saw an arctic fox from the window although I was not quick enough in getting my 'phone to photograph it (and prove it !). The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent.

This was a room only, shared bathroom and kitchen stop for us. The lady owner waited for us to arrive up to a late hour, and prepared sandwiches for us to leave before breakfast, thank you. The room for 3 was on a really small side, but for
1 night was ok for us. The room was clean and has a small sink, which is a bonus. The location is off the main road about 15 min or so, is quiet and peaceful.

The hostess was very helpful and amiable. She provided a modest breakfast in the morning that was very well done. The accommodations were very comfortable and clean. We appreciated that the washroom and shower were separate from each other. Both were very modern and bright. Access to the kitchen area to chill out (both in the evening and in the morning) was very nice. The guest house was situated on beautiful grounds which was the site of a former church. Negatives? None. Would definitely stay here again!

Simple and comfortable. The property was easy to find and we were met by the host who was lovely. The rooms were simple but clean and comfortable.

Expedia does not list breakfast as an amenity but it was included. There are also lists of local activities to consider as well as a list of nearby restaurants to chose from if you want supper.

Kálfafellsstaður Guesthouse is a quaint, quiet B&B about 20 minutes NE of Diamond Beach. The property is clean and picturesque. Thora's breakfast was delicious and diverse.

There's a sweet church next door and a cemetery that produced some lovely photos.

She has a no shoes inside policy. No problem, but I would have brought slippers if I'd known.

The room is small and it is a shared bathroom, but when we really needed to go and another guest was in there, Thora said we could use another one downstairs.

The only other downside was not the property itself. It is a long way from restaurants and they close early compared to the U.S. Even the 24-hour gas station stores were closed. So if you stay here, I'd bring some energy bars or frozen dinners and put them in the downstairs fridge just in case you can't find a place that's open. It actually might not be a bad thing if she sold something like that for people who weren't about to pick up dinner.

Overall a lovely place to stay. I would definitely stay there again if I have an opportunity to go back to Iceland.

While the host was fantastic and made a lovely breakfast. The bed and room is very comfy... It would be nice to have a bit more than a hot water kettle or microwave for a small warm meal after traveling in the cold all day. I was really glad to have had a cup of noddles. as I did not want to drive to another \"hotel/guesthouse\" for dinner. I had planned a head and am traveling with some groceries for easy meals on the ring road... as you cannot always depend on restaurants.

The feel gives the sense that you are really staying in the countryside of Iceland and not some touristy spot. Remote and quiet, with a beautiful small church right next door. I would have enjoyed seeing inside the church, but it was closed.

This is an old farmhouse with incredible charm, carried through by the wonderful owners. While we stayed, only the wife, Thora, was caring for the home while her husband visited family out of the country. She was efficient, helpful, caring, and great to talk with. There are a few house rules with the shared bathroom and for quiet hours, but they were not handicapping in any way. The rooms are small but definitely large enough for two Americans who chronically overpack! There is a sink in your private room. There is a gathering area centrally located where you can meet other travelers to compare travel notes and where you eat your breakfast in the morning. My husband and I are very private, introverted people and this is usually not our preferred type of lodging but we are so happy to have had this experience. Plus, we got to view the Northern Lights here!! Icing on the cake. Thank you, Thora, for opening your home to so many travelers.

Kálfafellsstaður Bed & Breakfast is located about 45 minutes west from Hofn, and 40 minutes east from Diamond Beach/ Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, set way back from the road (south coast route 1) with a magnificent unbroken view of the ocean. Nearby is a small church and just adjacent is a small cemetery. The area is very quiet and peaceful. All the rooms and bathrooms are immaculately clean. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are well lit and comfortably warm. The breakfast is broad with the choice of porridge, several kinds of toast, waffle, cold cereals, homemade jams and spreads, cheeses, salamis, hams, sliced hardboiled egg, tomatoes and cucumbers. Coffee, milk, juice, and drinkable yorgurt are also generously served. The hostess is very accommodating and very helpful in answering a broad range of questions about the area and Iceland in general. During breakfast, we enjoyed conversations with the hostess and guests who came from all over the world. For lunch or dinner, several excellent restaurants are 20 minutes away, and Hofn has additional fine restaurants. We recommend getting up early in the morning and walking down the driveway to view the house, the mountain behind the house and the ocean view. Kálfafellsstaður is a wonderful place to spend a night or two as you explore Iceland, particularly southeast part of the country.

If you like rules this is the place for you! There are hours for showering with no showering after 11pm. You need to squeegee the shower after use. Kitchen is for staff. You get a page of rules! The rooms are tiny though well appointed.

Even though Expedia indicated a charge in Euro, my credit card was charged in Icelandic Krona and somehow equates to 10 Euro more. There are better and cheaper B&B's out there.

Great little BnB

The place was in a great location between farms and mountains. This made it a perfect quite and peacful stay. The rooms were clean and so were the bathrooms. Best part was the bedroom which was spacious and also had a sink with a mirror which made things easier in the morning plus had a source of water. The beds were decent enough and kept us comfortable. The host was nice but not very friendly, but we had no issues in anyway. She made great breakfast which was included in the price. This place is slightly on the expensive side of the spectrum but might be worth it given the convenience.

A great little BnB. Note, toilet/bath are shared. Breakfast is served the kitchen, where Thora (host) is ready with oatmeal, waffles, cereal etc.
The house is not in a village and a little secluded, but a super BnB, if you need a place to sleep when exploring the glaciers...
