This hotel has all the luxuries one would expect from a chain like Mercure. The building is huge, at times feeling like a set for the film ‘Shining’.
It is not for me, simply because it has no soul, no character or style. The fittings are cheap, the vibe a bit large group holidays. Spa is accessible with a 30 euro fee.

Overrated for a 5 Star hotel

For a five star hotel there was no 24hr room service. Bar closed at midnight. Breakfast was very basic with limited choices. If you wanted a boiled egg that would cost you an extra 5 euros because it’s not included in the breakfast buffet. For dinner the quality of food was sub standard for 5 star hotel. The food looks and taste as if it was microwaved for charging at 5 star prices. Staff was very helpful and pleasant but all in all I don’t think this should be 5 star hotel and should have their star rating reviewed.

Very nice hotel. Staff were extremely friendly. Our disappointment is that they turn off the air conditioning at night and recirculate the outdoor air. It’s just not comfortable enough for sleeping. Also the WiFi in the bedroom is very weak to non functional. It’s too bad because it’s a beautiful hotel, beautiful rooms and great and tranquil setting. However because of the air conditioning we will not be staying there again

It's a wonderful hotel, we had a juinor suite which this time overlooked the other side of the hotel away from the road.
The spa was lovely we used it nearly every day and some days we had the indoor pools to ourselves.
The last time we where there was last year in October.
We had breakfast on the outdoor terrace which was really lovely.

OK Hotel...doesn't feel like Tuscany

The hotel is very clean. Bed is comfortable. The sulfur/mineral pool is very nice. The hotel is far from everything, which can be good/bad depending on what your needs are. For dinner and breakfast the restaurant is OK, but not great. For lunch we did not enjoy the food so we had to find places to eat which were around 30 minutes drive.

At check in you are required to sign a massive contract with the hotel which I found quite odd.

When arriving I asked for restaurant, cooking class and other recommendations of things to do. The receptionist said she would have something for us the next day. The next day when I came to ask the reception for a reply they said tomorrow there will be an answer. After that I just used Tripadvisor and four days later still no message from the reception.

What a beautiful retreat!

This was one of the best places we stayed at in Italy! The grounds are gorgeous, the hotel is impeccably clean, the service was courteous and the room was amazing. We lived it so much, that we extended our stay to one more night. We really enjoyed the spa as well!
The only drawback is that it was hard to find anyone from staff in the spa/pool area when we needed to ask some questions.
Other than that - we loved the place and would stay again.

A great place to go again!

Very nice facility and good service. A great hotel with thermal spa and they have 6 pools including 2 outdoor pools. It’s a bit out of the popular route but definitely worth the drive. I’d like to go again in sometime. It’s better to go on weekdays when it’s nice and quiet.

really great hotel in a location all on its own (can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for). Clean and modern. We stayed in one of the Suites and it was lovely although the view was looking over the employee car park so not completely ideal but still very nice.

Great place but beware of spa hours!

The facilities were very nice, the room was extremely clean, and the bathroom especially was great! It all felt very spa-like. My one problem, which was quite frustrating, is that the spa and all pools close at 7 pm -- on weekends too, and at peak tourism season. We arrive at 6:30 on Saturday evening, and didn't have any chance to use the facilities until the next morning. But, due to check-out time, this meant that we only really had 1.5 hours to take advantage of everything! It was really disappointing, and also the pool hours were not posted on the website. So, I would recommend getting there early, or staying 2 nights to avoid this problem! Otherwise, the place is great and the service was friendly.

Sleeping on the M25

Described as tranquil this was anything but. Apparently the hotel was fully booked and thus we were allocated the room located at the front of the hotel which was feet away from the main road. Due to arriving at 8pm after searching for alternative accommodation we realised it was too late to relocate and rather than sit in a room where we had to raise our voices so as to hear each other we went to the hotel bar.
Considering the hotel was 'fully booked' there were three people in the bar, it was just before 10pm!
Yes the room was decorated very nicely but this was the only nice thing about this awful stinking inconsiderate hotel. The door to the outside balcony did not lock and looking out on a main road, where they're building a new fairway/bridge is not my idea of a relaxing and tranquil stay. We left the next morning and drove up to the beach past Pisa and spent our final day of our trip relaxing on the beach.
The hotel should not be allocating anyone to those rooms at the front. I would not be surprised that they do this to make more money as people leave early and thus the rooms an be re-let.
The word disappointing is insufficient to describe how we felt about this 1960's motorway hotel.

The staff we superb, spa facilities great & bed super comfy. we had our 4month old baby with us & the staff were very hospitable. This isn't a family place, it's a place for quite & complete relaxation. I wouldn't recommend taking children ( go on your own) in respect of the other quests, however our baby daughter is currently very well behaved & we left the spa or restaurant area if our daughter moaned or cried so I think we treated all the other quests with respect & the hotel staff treated us extremely well!

Highway Spa, construction site!

quickly visit this place before the highway is completed. This was once a grand destination, now it is slowly getting sucked into the infrastructure cutting through the nature. The hotel literally sits ontop of a massive construction site. Ensure a room away from the road or you will be disappointed. Thermal spas are fantastic, sauna is broken, very little sign of life or interest from managment in upkeep. Fabio at the front desk is the best, he deserves a promotion for sure!

Hotel was stunning but just too remote,however the pool and spa facilities were fabulous, if you are looking for a complete rest and relax, this is the place.. we stayed outside in the hot thermal pool until dark, wandered around the hotel in bath robes.. wonderful..
On the downside , needed a car to get anywhere, even nearby restaurants, difficult to communicate with hotel staff and locals. Restaurant was too expensive and menu very restricted to eat there more than once, and to be honest the food was dire when we did try it. Once we found local restaurants, under our own steam, they were well worth it, though expensive, but sadly couldn't enjoy the local wines as we had to drive, and the mountainous surroundings were quite scary too, though very beautiful by day...
We were presented with a doctor's appointment shortly after our arrival for the following day, though no idea why?. Doctor couldn't speak any English and we felt really intimidated when asked to take to the 'treatment couch'. Didn't get any feedback or advice on use of pools and spa facilities as the appointment letter suggested. Basically left to our own devices..subsequently ruining a precious beautiful silver and gold locket that was around my neck in the 'natural thermal waters'.
.
Travelling to other regions was well worth the driving.

Superb spa experience

Very spacious hotel with large, well appointed rooms/bathrooms. The thermal spa pools are the highlight and a very therapeutic experience. Also on offer are a large swimming pool, gym, and outdoor pools. We stayed in October when there were very few guests. On the positive side this meant having the spa areas virtually to ourselves, but the downside was that the hotel lacked a bit of ambience.

Be aware that one goes to this hotel primarily to take advantage of the spas and relax as there is nowhere locally to dine, shop, or have a drink, without driving. It really is in the middle of nowhere! Great views from the hotel though. The restaurant food is acceptably good and they have an excellent wine list.

Fantastic escape in the country

Be warned that the city that is listed as the address is not exactly where the hotel is. It is literally on route E78 on the way towards Grosetto from Sienna, so just head that way and you can't miss it. Once you do get there, you will be blown away at the facility. We had a terrace suite with a great view of the valley. The staff is great here, and even though they may not all speak fluent English you can tell that they care and want to help. Marco and Elena stood out as 2 staff that would not let their lack of English hold them back from providing a great experience. My wife has significant food allergies and we provided the staff with a list of them to help us with meals. They were so great about helping her it made us feel like they really cared. If you are looking for a chance to walk to other sites nearby then this hotel is not for you as it is very isolated. It is really only about 20 minutes from Siena and about 30-40 minutes to Montalcino, so there are places to go if you want to. It isn't necessary to leave for dinner though as the food in the restaurants in the hotel for dinner is great. If I had to say anything negative about the hotel it would be 2 things - they don't let you adjust the temp in your room during the day which is aggravating and that they don't really have much information to give to you relating to the local wineries.

Spa in Wine Country

We loved our stay at Petriolo. You're in the middle of the Tuscan country side, and just 20 minutes away from where they make the Bruenello wines. It is a great location to tour vinyards, and come back and relax by the pool at the end of the day, or go for a hike. The fron desk was very helpful, they recommend two excellent restaurants in towns nearby (one in Pari, and another in Civitella Maritime). The pools in the spa are pretty amazing, too!

Close to all important sights

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Staff were very friendly with a special mention to the restaurant manager and the bar manager who excelled. The spa at this hotel is wonderful and provided excellent relaxation during out stay especially after sightseeing trips to neighbouring hill side towns and villages. The food was first class and beautifuly presented. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and always very clean. Thank you for making our stay wonderful.

Right off a busy highway south of Siena, the Petriolo Resort and Spa is a fun place. Many water features, coupled with a thermal spring, make for a very enjoyable experience. However, I would only rate the restaurant as \"fair\", no better. Otherwise a great place.

Phenominal Hotel and spa concept. Not cheap and not really very authentic Tuscan food but the whole package was otherwise very pleasing. The spa facilities both indoors and outdoors are brilliant and the views over the imposing hills and rocky valley were something to behold. The hotel staff were also brilliant and very accomodating. I would strongly suggest you spend a little time at the hotel rather than just driving around too much like we did, yes the area is beautiful but you must also enjoy the facilities to their full if you chose to stay here. We went in late September and the weather was not bad, the hotel itself was rather quiet but thats probably because it is out of season. A must do hotel!!

An excellent resort in the Tuscany region!

I booked 2 rooms for my family of 5 for 4 nights in late August 2012. Was nervous booking online, sight unseen. But wow, the place is an upscale spa/resort. Was 20 minutes south of Sienna in the countryside. The hotel and pool area overlook the valley with stunning views. There are indoor and outdoor pools, thermal hot pools, hot tubs, and full spa services at the hotel. People walking around in bathrobes, soaking up the sun at the pool. The rooms I booked were spacious with balconies, huge bathrooms, a changing area and an area with a bistro table for morning coffee overlooking the mountains. Service was top notch all around. A bar in the pool area with waiter service to your lounge chair - was a great way to relax in the Tuscan countryside after some short sightseeing trips. Sienna is 20 mins, Florence is about an hour, Montalcino is about 45 minutes. Many honeymooners there and was nervous that my kids would be out of place (ages 13, 10, 6) at the pool, but there were no incidents and clientele were great. My kids asked if we could move into the hotel! Restaurant was excellent with a top-floor outdoor seating area overlooking the valley. Temperatures were high during the days in late August (90+), but dropped to the high 60s at night, so was perfect temperature for outdoor dining! Overall a great experience and would recommend it highly.

Great SPA Hotel in the Tuscan Hills

We spent six nights here in a strikingly beautiful junior suite, and loved every minute of it. The hotel is located in a very scenic position with incredible views of the Tuscan countryside, but less than 30 minutes by car from the coast or the beautiful city of Siena, as well as numerous small villages. The SPA and Thermal Baths (indor and outdoor) are unsurpassed. During August there are a lot of families with children at the outdoor pools, but fewer at other times of the year. The included breakfast was sumptuous, and dinners on the terrace, overlooking the Tuscan Hills were great as well. Overall, this is a beautiful and well designed hotel that takes every advantage of its location.

You should have a car if you are going to stay here, but there is plenty of free parking and the roads to and from the hotel are easy to use. One other comment I have to make is regarding the service. The staff was unbelievably, efficient, cordial and helpful.

We look forward to our next stay!

Evrything perfect. Lobby did not appear 5 star but rooms were amazing. Special thanks to the fornt desk staff and Mirka at the restaurant who made our dinner perfect.

Only gripe is the absence of an iron. I have travelled extensively and have never come across a hotel with no orining facilities. Even if an iron was not available in the room, most hotels would send one up. The excuse of \"fire hazzard\" does not hold water as most international chains have hotel irons with automatic switch off.

i had to wait till 8 am for someone to actually iron my shirt and then pay 5 euroes for it. not great if you wanted to iron your shirt lats minute for dinner.

Please learn from other international chains and provide some sort of rioning facility

I did complain to the front desk who was very professional and said her would look into it.
otherwise, a great hotel!!

Great hotel, very relaxing

Fantastic hotel. The sauna/steam room area has about 10 different facilities all included in the room price. We also booked a massage each which was great. The restaurant on the terrace serves fantastic food (quite expensive see travellers tip) and the breakfast was fine (screaming babies should be seated on the other side of the restaurant!) Overall a fantastic stay and would strongly recomend.

When we pulled up outside this hotel we were disappointed as it is literally on a very busy main road and looks like a 1970's motel.

When we were shown to our room we couldn't believe it, it was like something out of a French chateau, complete with a chandalier in the bedroom, we had an enormous bathroom and a dressing room.

We ate at the hotel on the first night, the food was wonderful, but the price (my word, you need a 2nd mortgage) !!

The staff were very helpful but the waiters were sullen and moody.

The spa facilties are brilliant, you couldn't ask for more, but the smell of sulphur from the thermal pool can put you off.

It's conveniently located (only about 30 mins from Siena) but there aren't many good eating opportunities around other than the hotel !

Top Quality Hotel

My girlfriend and I stayed there for 3 nights recently. If first impressions count then I would recommend this hotel to everyone. All staff members could not be more helpful, attentive and pleasant to all guests. The room was fantastic luxuriously and tastfully decorated. Most importantly this hotel is located about 30mins from Siena by car and it is located in a most tranquil part of the countryside. Very romantic. Another great point to mention is that it is ideally located for many quick trips out to the surrounding vineyards and there are some world famous estates within 15mins drive of this gem.
The amenities with this hotel were also of a very high standard. There was generous bathing areas both around the two outdoor pools and lots of seating inside by the thermal baths as well.
On the night of our arrival we dined on the terrace. I wont bore everyone with a list of superlatives but the standard of cooking was certainly the highest cusine we sampled during our stay in Italy. The breakfast buffet was very generous and more than expected based on previous experiences in other hotels in Italy and further afield.
SImply put if you are considering staying in a hotel in this part of Tuscany (near Siena/ Arezzo) but you dont want to stay in either of these places then I would urge you to go and try this hotel out for yourself.

I will be returning to this hotel for sure.

Best hotel experience, ever!

I can recommend this hotel 100%. The staff was super-friendly, the room was amazing, the SPA was great, the pool area was so peaceful and comfortable, the food was excellent, and the location was great for exploring the nearby villages like Montalcino, Montepulciano etc. And if you do go out exploring, coming back to Petriolo feels like coming home.

wir waren vom 5-7ten märz bei euch und haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Zimmer sauber, Personal super freundlich – besonders euer Lehrling an der Bar: so viel Lebenslust, hat uns richtig gutgetan!
Nur zwei Punkte: Die Nachbarin ließ morgens um halb sieben ihre zwei Hunde allein – die kläfften laut los. Wir haben was gesagt, sie lachte uns nur aus, ohne Respekt. Und das Frühstück war okay, aber nicht top.
Die Lage braucht Auto, sonst schwierig.
Trotzdem: Kommen gerne wieder. Vielleicht Hunde-Zimmer weiter weg?

Vi blev virkelig skuffet. Kedeligt hotel helt uden stemning. Dårlig, sparsom morgenmad og synes ikke personale var så imødekommende. Termisk pool og den alm. pool burde ligge adskilt, så man ikke skal ligge og lugte til det termiske bad. Dårlig oplevelse og vi tjekkede ud før end planlagt. Iøvrigt virkede el-laderen til bil ikke!

Abbiamo apprezzato la flessibilità degli orari di ingresso alle piscine sia prima del check in che la possibilità di fermarsi senza supplemento oltre il check out (utilizzando gli spogliatoi). ヨーロッパ在住日本人の方に特にオススメです。日本に帰らなくても温泉ホテルに滞在できます。2019年9月にオープンしたばかりというのに価格はお手頃です。川の側には公共の無料露天風呂もあります。そこに行かなくても、
ホテルの庭に温泉プールが。正に露天風呂感覚で楽しめました。３泊がちょうど良かったです。食事も良かったです。だい満足でした。

部屋は広く綺麗でした。
バスルームもでバスタブが大きくて良かった。

スパは清潔で広々していて良かった。
温泉の温度も温かく気持ちが良かった。

Ottimo soggiorno

Esperienza molto positiva, ottima la nuova gestione, solo qualche piccolo accorgimenti:
1- i corridoi non si pitturano il sabato mattina
2- la sauna deve essere in toto di legno
3- gli asciugamano devono essere disponibili anche a bordo piscina e non solo all'ingresso della SPA

Die besten Jahre sind vorbei

Hotel mit sehr nettem Personal das allerdings seine besten Jahre schon hinter Sich hat. Zimmer sind geräumig und sauber. Die Therme ist eigentlich schön aber in heruntergekommenen Zustand. Das Frühstück ist gut, das Abendessen allerdings für das gebotene viel zu teuer.

Staff cordiale ma in alcuni casi è sembrato inesperto e probabilmente sottodimensionato. La struttura è grande e le potenzialità sarebbero molte ma le condizioni (della spa soprattutto) non sono ottimali...secondo me necessita di qualche intervento...tutto sommato però il soggiorno è stato piacevole

Il petriolo resort ha le terme sulfuree, unica nota positiva insieme alla location, per il resto stendiamo un velo pietoso, qualità prezzo assolutamente ineccepibile!

Struttura molto carina peccato sia a ridosso dell autostrada ... ma comunque silenziosa e immersa nella natura. Personale gentile, camere belle e pulite. Unica pecca ...ci hanno fatto aspettare prima di darci la camera nonostante il check in sia dalle 15 la camera non era pronta.. per scusarsi ci hanno offerto una consumazione al bar dell hotel. Ci sono Piscine sia riscaldate sia con acqua termale.. bella la spa! Il check out é previsto per le 11 ma ti danno la possibilitá di rimanere comunque all interno della struttura utilizzando armadietti gratuiti nella spa.

Flot hotel i fantastisk natur

Super flotte værelser med fantastisk gode senge. Deres pools både indendørs og udendørs var af høj kvalitet og med mange valgmuligheder. Utrolig flot udsigt fra poolområdet og restauranten, hvor solen kunne nydes hele dagen.
Venlig og professionel personale. God mad i restauranten, hvor betjeningen dog var for langsom i forhold til antallet af gæster.
Største minus var, at wifi ikke virkede imens vi var der. Især irriterende fordi mobilnetværket var meget svagt.
Alt i alt en god oplevelse, som levede op til forventningerne.

Struttura molto bella

Struttura immersa nel verde in una zona molto tranquilla, facilmente raggiungibile dalla superstrada Siena-Grosseto, uscita Pari.
Parcheggio disponibile in loco gratuitamente.
Stanza molto ampia e luminosa, con tv a schermo piatto, aria condizionata regolabile dall'interno. Il bagno è ampio dotato di doccia e vasca.Stanza silenzioa. Pulizia ottima.
La struttura è dotata di una piscina esterna, con due vasche una termale e l'altra normale, dotata di idromassaggi e cascate cervicali; internamente ci sono 4 piscine, di cui una di acqua solfurea e due riscaldate con idromassaggi e cascatellle di acqua, inoltre ci sono bagno turco, sauna, docce emozionali e percorso kneip per le gambe. L'accesso è compreso nel costo della camera, e vengono forniti, accappatoio asciugamani ciabattine e cuffie per accedervi. Avendoci passato una notte ci è stato consentito di accedere sia il giorno di arrivo e il giorno successivo. Orario spa 10-19. E possibile fare anche trattamenti e massaggi a pagamento.
Staff molto cortese, disponibile e attento alle esigenze dei clienti.
Colazione abbondante, sia di dolce che salato.
Se vogliamo trovare qualche difetto, ci sarebbero da fare dei piccoli lavori di manutenzione per rendere perfetta la struttura, ma è conmprensibile viste le grandi dimensoni.

Amazing hotel and extraordinary service!

We found this beautiful hotel and was supposed to stay only one night. We stayed in the junior suite and had the best view over the mountains. The spa was lovely. The staff was so service minded, polite and nice! we ended up staying three nights instead of one and will definitely come back here next time in Italy. One of the best hotels we’ve visited by far.

Una gemma storica che brilla di luce propria.Famoso Hotel storico , immerso nel verde.uno dei più belli, eleganti di tutta la Toscana .con aggiunta di piscina termale.Non certamente per ragazzini e bambini.da Acqua Fun.Opulento ricercato negli arredi e sopratutto nel gusto ...che ormai non trovi più.Anche, se ahimè ...gli hanno ridotto di una stella ...rimane sempre una grande Stella. E andrebbe rispettato per tale.Sono anni che frequento ,ero una ragazzina , quando era frequentato dal Elite della Toscana .Speriamo bene ....p.s necessità di personale in più per il suo standing.

È stupendo tutto di questo posto, dalla suggestiva riserva naturale da cui è circondata, dalla pulizia al servizio eccellente!
