It’s a lovely hotel. Reception was nice and the room very clean with an incredible view out the window of the valley behind. No balcony but a Juliet railing with large opening windows. The breakfast buffet was excellent, self serve with exception of coffee which was served by a very pleasant waiter. Parking is a bit of challenge in a steeply sloped narrow driveway beside the hotel.Take the time to line up the car to go straight through the narrow gate and you’ll be fine. Also very nice sitting area beside the restaurant.

This was a fantastic place to stay while visiting Montalcino. Spectacular views from our room and from the breakfast area and pool deck. Staff was very hospitable, and the breakfast buffet was really good. Mimosa’s restaurant recommendations were on point😎.
I picked this place somewhat randomly for me and my dad and did not regret it. Walking distance to great restaurants and gelato. Rooms are not elaborate, but you’re not there to stay in your room.

A couple of suggestions:
- if you put this place into Apple Maps or Google Maps, IT WILL SEND YOU UP A GRAVEL AGRICULTURAL ROAD WITH 20% GRADE, the Strada Communale Del Canaliccio. OMG, my heart was in my throat driving up this and we narrowly avoided an accident. Instead, ask Maps app to take you to Via Pietro Strozzi, then to the hotel. We made it safely, but there was some stress!!
- there is very little permanent parking at the hotel. Drive there, drop your stuff, and they will give you a parking pass and directions to parking.
- this may not be the place for those with severely limited mobility. The cobblestone roads are pretty steep.
- if you need suggestions for wineries, there are so many, but Col D’Orcia won’t let you down. Book ahead.🍷

Amazing hotel stay in Montalcino.

The Hotel is conveniently located at the entrance to the city center which is really the best location in Montalcino. Just a few blocks away you have incredible restaurants, shops and phenomenal sights. Talking about sights both our room and the Hotel pool area and restaurant provided breathtaking views of the country side since the Hotel itself is on a hill. Breakfast at the hotel had a large variety a d with excellent quality. The hotel manager Maria Angela attended to our every need and was simply phenomenal

HIghly recommend this property. I had a magnificent view of the valley, the sunrise and birds singing will be unforgettable. The staff is helpful and friendly. Nice breakfast with quality food included. Montalcino is a cool hilltop town. If you plan an overnight, make this your hotel of choice.

We loved our stay at hotel dei Capitani, would highly recommend. Montalcino is famous for truffles, wild boar, wine, and beautiful views, especially from this hotel. It is on top of a mountain and in the country so you can expect to see bugs in your room like spiders, mosquitos, stink bugs, but they are mostly all harmless and more of a nuisance than anything.
When looking for food to eat I recommend “Il Moro SNC di pellegrini Alessandro”, extremely clean kitchen, family run, delicious homemade local food. Don’t trust any of the restaurants hours posted on their websites, the city pretty much closes down once it’s past 8:30 you’ll have a hard time getting food anywhere. Also, the roads are very tight so if you are driving a car I recommend something small. Walking on the walls of the castle was another great highlight of the trip. If you want to visit any wineries make reservations ahead of time. Again, can’t recommend it enough! And thanks to the hotel staff for being so welcoming, hospitable and helpful with recommendations. We loved the whole experience.

This hotel is on the edge of town and has magnificent views. An added plus is a swimming pool which is welcome after a day of travel. It’s a bit of an uphill walk to the town center but if you are mobile it should not be an issue. The morning breakfast is great and is served on an outdoor patio with great views (indoor is also available). Rooms are comfortable and provide all that is needed. Found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and recommend.

PROS: The staff were great & gave nice dining recommendations, got us a taxi. Very walkable area, close to restaurants /shops. Breakfast croissants are delish! Room was comfortable and spacious. The bed was 2 twins put together. It was cool enough to not use the A/c but it was good to have in case. There is a fridge with free bottled water. The balcony view was spectacular. Felt like a safe place to be

CONS: An older property (like most hotels in the area)
and that is part of the charm but the walls are paper thin. I could hear my neighbors snore at night (didnt bother me but I know some people are light sleepers).
The parking lot for the hotel is small (5 spaces) and the walls are a very tight squeeze for an SUV to enter into the lot. However, the hotel also provides a parking pass for public parking lot further into town (a bit of a walk up a small hill or two).
Even though there is an elevator, there are small sets of stairs on the floor where some rooms are so you will need to carry your luggage up and down about a flight total put together (not many but just sharing).

It is rare (if ever) that you will find screens in hotels in Italy so beware of bugs when opening the balcony door and leaving it open for some time - the mosquitoes are huge. It would be nice to have a screen to enjoy the fresh air without this worry but not a dealbreaker.
They do not have \"Do not disturb\" signs for hanging on the door so advise the front desk if you do not wish for cleaning

Much was closed in early November. Great location for winery visits. In nice weather, the pool would be inviting.

Very good location. Rooms are very old and small. Pool is nice but when we arrived there were towels on every chair and no people anywhere. All towels were still there hours later so no one was really cleaning the area. It was fine for one night but would not have stayed longer. Bed was thin, pillows were tiny. Views were beautiful and staff was helpful. Walls are very thin and we were woken by toilets flushing all night.

The hotel itself was fine with stunning views from our room. However, the welcome was amongst the worst I have ever experienced and my wife’s views confirmed my initial thoughts.

The first words from the front desk ‘staff’ was, “ you can’t park there”. No hi, hello, welcome. The atmosphere around the hotel felt strained and stuffy and no fun is to be found there. Rolling of the eyes, tutting, sighing like everything was too much trouble from the two staff. A guest should never be subjected to such displays of passive aggression. Actually we couldn’t wait to get out of there and we feel relieved that it was just a one night stop off of our short tour of Italy. This shouldn’t take anything away from the location, the town in general which was wonderful. And some front staff we met later on (late shift) and the rooming and restaurant staff all seemed pleasant but my word, the other two! I can’t overstate the utter snobbishness!

Easier to get to than some of the other hill towns we visited. Check in was easy and welcoming, the lady speaking English was very nice and informative. Manager could be more inviting, but did show us the parking nearby. Parking is free which is a bonus, but coming up the hill is tricky due to the angle at the top. You may bottom out.

Free breakfast is another perk and it's fabulous. A good assortment plus an amazing panoramic view. Cappuccino is served, but you help yourself to the food. The gentlemen serving where terrific.

Our room was terrific, cleaned each day. We had a room with a view and were often content to just enjoy it, it truly is marvelous. Good sized room and the bed was comfortable. My wife thought the sheets weren't soft enough. TV is Italian only, CNN would be nice. Shower is different as it has two doors? The key chain is a great idea as it fits in a slot by the door and is used as an energy saver. If lights won't work it's due to the fact you haven't placed your key chain in the slot.

I didn't take the beer from the fridge. There is a butcher shop at the top of the hill that has beer for €1. I'm not a wine person so the small bottle of Toscana sure tasted good to me, 3€! La Torre Pizzeria al Taglio is a short walk along the main drag and has terrific pizza. Very inexpensive, especially if you would like to avoid those €50. dinners or have kids.

The hotel is very well located. Close to everything but Montalcino is not a big place anyways. However, you can drive up to the hotel which is very good and convenient. Hotel parking is tight but if you are a good driver-not a problem if your skills are not there it will be intimidating. But so would be all other places in Italy. Breakfast was really good. Service and helpfulness of personnel was very good. I would stay there again. Oh I forgot to mention exceptional views.

The location is very good, the only thing if you have difficulty walking it is at the bottom a rather steep but not too long hill that you need to go to get to the center of town. staff is friendly and helpful. Very unkind welcoming. After I walked in, said “good evening, we are staying at your hotel, can we park here?”, the response was: “but who are you!” (Can’t write the tone of voice but it was very rude).
Also the check out wasn’t pleasant (with an older lady) when we had to pay the city tax, the lady just continued phoning and ignoring our credit card saying she preferred cash but then she took the card. Hmm... and thrown on the reception desk to my friend.
So the receptionists skills could be improved.
However, the lady at breakfast was super kind and very helpful even though she was alone and it was probably a bit stressful for her.
We’ve been situated in a building next to the main building. The interior was a bit old.

This hotel is situated overlooking the beautiful Tuscan valleys and hills. It is at the lower end of the main street in town so there’s a steep but short walk every day to get to the shops and restaurants. We managed just fine despite being senior citizens.
The downside of this hotel is that there appears to be no soundproofing between rooms—especially the bathrooms. The noise from showers and toilet flushing in neighboring rooms is quite loud. That said, I would go back again (with earplugs) because the view is so wonderful it more than makes up for the noise.

Excellent hotel, highly recommend for your stay in the center of Montalcino. Clean, comfortable with rooms, with AC. Our room with a view was fabulous, breathtaking views of the Tuscan hills. Staff was extremely helpful, offering to call our favourite vineyards the day of to see if they had availability for wine tasting at the vineyards. This ranges from 5euros each to around 30. Very very kind! Pool was lovely, resembled a mini infinity pool looking over the Tuscan hills. Walking distance to everything, and available parking behind hotel. Breakfast was delicious and satisfying, may I add breakfast with a view.

The view is just incredible! I'm talking, of course about anything facing the valley. It's worth paying for the upper, bigger rooms facing the valley. The view is just breathtaking, and made every morning, evening and night a pleasure. And even if you can't get the room with a view, well, the patio, and the view while bathing in the pool are the same. The staff were caring and professional. The morning breakfasts were tremendous - great variety & freshness and service. Can't recommend this place enough! Note: I was there in the beautiful summer season: hot, picturesque, and the pool was an extra bonus. A/C worked well.

This place has a beautiful pool, and one of the better hotel breakfasts we have had on our trip around Italy.
We paid to upgrade our room so we could enjoy the beautiful view. Unfortunately, the a/c was not working, or it needed a remote that was not provided. We had a pretty uncomfortable sleep. Yes, we opened the windows, but that also means bugs and waking up when the sun rises.
Also, fyi the free parking is not at the hotel property. It's a bit of a trek to the parking lot.

Overall though, we were sad to say goodbye to that amazing view, and would stay again in a heartbeat for the view alone.

All in all Montalcino was a bit disappointing, it was jam packed full of tourism and not too much to see or do other than the spectacular views.
I thought the hotel was very overpriced for what it was, the views were lovely and in the heart of Summer the pool would be awesome, however with the cooler temperatures I do think the prices should be lowered as it is not possible to utilise the added fascilities.
The room was nice enough, very old fashioned but the shower was one of the better ones from our holiday.

Great hotel within easy walking to shops and food.

We got the superior double room with view and it was well worth it! Had a fabulous view of the Tuscan countryside from a very high vantage point. In fact the view was the highlight of our stay, but the hotel Breakfast and facilities were also very nice. Parking availability right at the hotel was sporadic, but there was an alternative public lot about 15 minute walk away. Montalcino is a hilltop town. Be prepared for a moderate amount of uphill walking.

This hotel was the perfect place to relax for a few days and enjoy the area. The staff (front desk, breakfast room, cleaning) were all friendly and polite. They upgraded us on arrival to one of the suites by the pool, which was great. The room was very clean and had a comfortable bed with adequate AC. The bathroom was a decent size, even had a bathtub with a hand held shower head, though no stand up shower. The pool was clean and had many loungers surrounding it with umbrellas and tables. We were always able to find a spot to relax. The view from this hotel is absolutely amazing, overlooking the beautiful hills and valleys. We would definitely stay here again!!

Having breakfast on the terrace over looking miles and miles of Tuscan countryside was special. And the pool is super.

Great Montalcino Location

This property is in a good location for walking to all of the sights with the town of Montalcino. The view from the property is exceptional, and the lobby and breakfast area are quite nice. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The rooms, however, are badly in need of updating. There is only one outlet in the room, in the bathroom, so it is quite inconvenient to charge phones, computers, camera batteries, and also use bathroom shavers, etc. The shower is so small it is almost unusable, and is also in need of updating.

Staff spoke great English, helped us check in, showed us everything in the room, and showed us where to park. Pool is perfect for hanging out around, and gets afternoon shade so it's not too hot. Hotel very close to town and has free parking it is also cute but outdated. The view from the pool is amazing but the pool is very cold. Breakfast was good. All staff very friendly. The room was on the ground level so very noisy from the outside deliveries to the hotel and neighbors. A LOT OF MOSQUITOS!

Book the Balcony room

A view to die for over the Tuscan hills from your balcony. Lovely airy,period,clean room. Staff were great. Beautiful clean pool with the same stunning veiw. Town full of charm and less tourists but steep walk up to it of 70m. Highly recommend this very special place and this hotel.

Very nice hotel , beautiful views.

A very nice hotel with beautiful views across classic Tuscan countryside , all the way to Siena on a clear day. We had a room which the hotel described as ' Classic ', and was located a metre or so from the main hotel building. It didn't have a view due to trees , this wasn't important as the breakfast and pool area were very close by and the trees provided some shade from the strong morning sun. We stayed for six nights at the end of July. Breakfast could be taken outside or in a nice room with large windows , The buffet style breakfast was always very good with fresh fruit ,cereals, cold meats, cheese etc. and a selection of sweet products. The staff were friendly and helpful apart from the surly owner who walked about muttering to himself most of the time, we only ever saw him in the mornings.
Understandably Montalcino wasn't designed with cars in mind and the entrance and exit from the car park proved this. The parking is down a steep but short ramp with room for about five cars , if they're not too big. Our hire car was a Ford C Max and once you got used to it entry and exit was OK. A BMW 5 series and an Audi A6 got into the car park but had some difficulty getting out with both cars bottoming out and scraping their undersides where the ramp joins the ' main ' road which is just a little lane , even with all the passengers out, they're needed anyway to help guide the driver. There is a public car park a short walk from the hotel , the staff will give you a daily voucher

Wonderful 3 days in the heat.

We had a great stay in Montalcino, and could not imagine staying anywhere else. The view was spectacular and the staff were exceptionally attentive. Our stay was during one of the hottest periods of July since 2003. The room could have used a ceiling fan or portable fan to help keep the air conditioning uniform, and the room cool for sleeping. That said, it was cool enough. Now that I'm home, I especially miss the Italian breakfast.

Outstanding!!!

Most magnificent view you will want in a stay in Tuscany. Clean facility, friendly staff, very helpful and professional. The hotel is in a quiet corner of a quiet town and your time by the pool will make you forget the hustle and bustle of civilization. Choose the rooms with the mountain slope view if possible. The breakfast is excellent and gets you off to a great start each day. The room itself is well kept and clean, the only odd thing is that there was no shower curtain in the bath, makes for a bit of a mess for the bathroom floor. Normally it would have been an issue but somehow, being in the middle of the Tuscan mountainside makes you forgiving of the small things. Stay here!

Tuscany with a View

The view out of of our window was the best view in Tuscany. Without a doubt!!! Be sure to get a room that is on the back of the hotel. Wish I could post a picture. Staff was great. Breakfast great. AC cooled well. Lift too as we were on the third floor. Pool very nice with a view. Parking is in a city lot but hotel provides a paper to cover the cost. Very convenient to restaurants. Up hill to the main street a further uphill to the parking. That is the only negative. Would surely go back.

Unique and Appealing Hotel

This hotel has a wonderful unique position looking out over the entire valley. We found the receptionist to be very friendly and the room though small had a cozy rustic character to it with a splendid window to enjoy the view. The common areas were nicely done with comfortable seating and again the fantastic view. Though we didn't use the pool it looked very inviting and the breakfast was also quite nice.

Fantastic views of the valley from the hotel!

The front desk staff were all very professional, helpful and pleasant. Good English spoken! The breakfast was very nice and the breakfast staff was excellent as well! The shower in our room was very small, however we were there 1 night. Maybe inquire about a larger bathroom option? Rooms were large and very clean. The hotel is in a great location close to the center of the town. Overall a very nice place to stay!

Magnificent views, great staff, perfect location. My only gripe was there was no wifi in the rooms, but that is so minor that it's almost not worth mentioning. The breakfast was great, the views amazing. We can't wait to go back when the pool is open.

Its all about the view and staff! Excellente'!!

This was a last minute booking as we were driving through Tuscany in our rented Alfa. We had a late night check in and the desk host was extremely accommodating. She even came out to the street to assist us with parking. The room was small and the price was low, it also included a breakfast with a impressive view of Tuscany on the terrace. This was a great find especially for a last minute same evening booking. We were so thankful to find this perfect perch in the hills of Tuscany.

Tired Hotel

The hotel is well located though it is at the bottom of a steep hill. The terrace at the rear of the property had a gorgeous view with nice tables and chairs. Our room was not a view room and was quite tired and past it's prime. Furnishings were tired, toiletries were minimal. I asked for wine glasses to drink our own wine and was asked for a €5 \"corkage fee\". (we used plastic cups)

Amazing View

We booked this hotel for 2 nights out of our 10 night honeymoon trip around Italy. The reason we picked this hotel was the views in the pictures, and they did not disappoint. It was breath taking. There are great views all around Montalcino but I don't think any of the other hotels had anything like this. The other reason we picked it was the pool, which was a little disappointing as it was the end of August and we thought the pool would be a comfortable temperature. It was really quite cold. We managed to hop in (with a lot of 1...2...3 count offs before we could actually jump in), but didn't stay in more than 10 minutes. We might have hung out longer except for getting attacked by bees, spiders, and ants. The room itself was outdated. Bed was uncomfortable and hard. Bathroom was ok except the hair dryer didn't work. Shower was good. The hotel breakfast was ok, nothing special. The hotel staff were the rudest of the ones we had met during our trip; condescending, unhelpful with directions, recommendations for food / wine, and didn't bother to tell us about the festival that happened to be going on while we were there that only happens once per year. The town itself was amazing and we loved getting to stay there. I think if we returned we would chose a local bed and breakfast to stay at instead, but if all you care about it is a view then this one is a winner.

We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Dei Capitani! The hotel was very clean. The staff was very accommodating and friendly! The views from the hotel were absolutely stunning. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!
