This is my first 50/50 review of a resort. I usually stay at RIU resorts since I’m a RIU member, but because I was traveling with a minor, we couldn’t stay at the RIU in the Bahamas.
The location is great only 20–25 minutes from the airport, and a taxi for two cost about $40. Check-in was pleasant, but the rooms were disappointing. My first room, 2211, looked nice at first, but paint was peeling, the bathroom smelled humid and rusty, and the balcony door was almost impossible to open. I was moved to room 1106, which had a beautiful view, but the bathroom was still falling apart, I found three cockroaches, and the AC sounded like a plane engine all night.
One major issue was privacy. After settling in with my kids, an employee opened our door without knocking to “check if everything was okay.” That was extremely unprofessional.
The beach is beautiful, though rocky in some areas. Pool and beach seating are limited unless you wake up early. Food was average with little variety, although one Dominican chef was excellent. Desserts looked good but tasted bad, and drink quality was inconsistent. Some bartenders also came across as rude or unwelcoming.
Entertainment was one of the best parts of the resort. Carlos, DJ Panda, and the team kept guests engaged and laughing all week, and Carlos’ ceviche on Thursday is a must-try.

My wife and I visited for 4 days in May for my birthday. In the pictures the resort looks amazing but in person there’s a lot of work that needs to be done. The rooms are broken down, there’s bugs everywhere in the room, there was flys everywhere on the buffet area. First and last time visiting. Next time I will go back to my usual spot in Nassau (Rui)

Our room was nice with a spectacular view of the ocean, air conditioning was great our shower was nice and hot.The staff was great very friendly especially the bell hop Senardo he was always welcoming and greeted you with a friendly hello and a smile on his face. The beach was beautiful with plenty of loung chairs and palm trees. The only thing is the large rocks when you first enter the ocean then it's sandy after that. Bring swimming shoes. The bars were great and left you fill your own containers. Overall experience was a wonderful time with relaxation and fun.

Pros: affordability, easy to secure transportation, amazing staff, open air common spaces & dining, & plenty of shaded areas

Cons: unsafe & unhealthy conditions, room had live insects, holes & cracks in the walls, ceiling & tiles, bathroom tiles were moldy, lots of broken glass & trash on the beach, trash behind our room, most guests smoked/vaped in common areas making it hard to breath & they left their cigarettes butts everywhere, & in the main dining hall, birds would land on muffins briefly to feed

Not worth the money. Did not feel clean the entire stay. Front desk staff was not friendly upon check in, and in addition we got all the way to our room after a long day of travel to realized the staff member not only did not give us a key but our neighbors that happened to arrive at the same time did not get one either. Crazy that’s like the whole point of checking in is getting access to your room. Guest services acted like it was the end of the world trying to get a reservation at a restaurant and this was a shared experience among multiple guest we spoke with. We also requested a king bed and ended up with two doubles. Honestly besides the bar tenders it seemed like a lot of the staff was not happy to be there. I know the hospitality industry is not easy but we were extremely disappointed in our time there. I hope this review helps them to improve because the location is nice and so beautiful!

The staff was AMAZING! Everyone is very friendly and hospitable. The gardens, pool and beach are beautiful and well kept. Pretty white sand and gorgeous water. There was a lot of rocks as you enter the water though. The room was average it could get some maintenance especially in the bathroom. There was also a lot of bugs in my room and the walls are thin so I could hear my neighbors loudly. My biggest disappointment was the food! For a Bahamian hotel I was expecting lots of fresh seafood. I only ate in the buffet and it honestly wasn’t good at all. The bar tenders were AWESOME FUN AND NICE. The quality of liquor was average. All I wanted to drink was brut and 90% of the time I was there they didn’t have it. Unfortunately I would not stay here again only because of the food quality and options.

Great resort but the onsite dive operator is dysfunctional. They need to kick them out and replace with a competent dive shop. It’s all over the reviews.
The resort trapeze staff are awesome, and we loved the picket ball.

We stayed at the resort for 4 days and it was wonderful. Staff were great and very accommodating! We aren’t really fussy eaters, however, would be good if the hotel provided more vegetarian options. You don’t get a daily refill of water bottles, you’ll get the one for your entire stay - so maybe take a water bottle to top up as they have loads of water fountains around the hotel. Beach was amazing and clean! We came for birthday trip, and they had left us nice gifts at the room. We booked transfers, and was about 20mins or so from the ferry port. We didn’t go out of the hotel - but recommend booking taxi’s if you want to go out and about, as not much walking distance!

Yes, Bar was well stocked food was available continuously. The only problem was at night the meat was dry. Otherwise the breakfast meals were fantastic. Lunch was great , suppers not so great but good for family. They were a little short of staff. I believe it was hard to get a reservation at a dining room on the facility for evening.

Out of five catamarans only two were in sailing condition. The pool table sags in the center. The air hockey table doesn’t work. There was no ball for fuss ball table. Despite being an all-inclusive resort, tip jars were everywhere. We were unable to get reservations at any à la carte restaurant all week; this is done via app. The buildings need cleaning and renovations.

The beach is superb. The room was quiet except one night when neighbors were speaking loudly after midnight. The trapeze show was stunning. The buffet food was excellent. The staff was friendly. Checking in and out was easy.

This was my third stay at Viva Fortuna. I will return if they update facilities and equipment.

The property itself is nice. The rooms were dirty but they keep the main areas nice. The entertainment staff our awesome. The food in the buffet is ok. Bummer you can only book a restaurant 1 time during your stay. Not our typical experience at an all inclusive. Stayed in 15 of them and this was our least favorite, but it was ok. Certainly wouldn’t but a time share there.

Just got back from à week at Viva Fortuna and had an excellent time! We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers). Here is the best overview I can give:

Staff:
Wish I could give more than 5 ⭐️! Everyone was extremely kind and welcoming. Bartenders were attentive and fun. Wait staff was quick to clear your plates with a smile. Kitchen staff was helpful and friendly, did a great job of keeping the buffet clean and full. Housekeeping was great! We only had our room cleaned every other day but they were available for extra towels or drinks. Groundskeepers were always working to keep the grounds tidy and clear of debris, had a pretty rough storm one night and things were clear/clean by lunch. Entertainment staff was amazing! Always on they worked so hard, very energetic and did a great job of keeping things upbeat with a variety of activities throughout the day and night.

Resort/grounds:
The resort is older and a bit run down in spots.Mostly the bathrooms are small and dated. It did not bother our family. The main areas bar/lobby/buffett/ pool/ A la cart restaurants were clean, tidy and looked more updated. The rest of the grounds were beautiful beach was clean and had plenty of loungers and space for all the guests. The foliage and flowers are beautiful and extremely well kept..

Food:
During our stay we.mostly at the buffet, which had a variety of food options. Everyone in our group always found something to enjoy. À la cart options, or a great break from the buffet.

Positives: Beach, ocean, pool area are beautiful. Serving staff and bar tenders, cleaners, entertainment staff were great and friendly.

Negatives: Very dated / patched up rooms (especially washrooms); the front desk staff/ guest services and beach activity crew (especially Germain) were horrible - unhelpful / apathetic to any concerns and it was almost like you were inconveniencing them for any small request. Drinks were brutal. No name brand alcohol; drinks were watered down and really sugary; wine was really gross; beer was ok. Food was just ok. Pizza at the Italian restaurant was the best thing we had all week. I’m picky and don’t enjoy a lot of greasy food so I mostly lived on toast and fruit.

We were here for 6 nights and were told we were entitled to 3 a-la cart nights. When we checked in on a Sunday they told us “sorry all of the people who came in Saturday booked them for the week”. I’m sorry what? How is that even possible for people who arrived a day before to get all of the reservations for the week and we were told “waitlist”. My husband pressured them a lot and we finally got 2 of 3 but it was a fight. Once at the restaurants; they were half full. Did not flip tables. One seating per night and that was it. They could have accommodated so many more people if the flipped tables. Half of the people we spoke to didn’t get one a-la-cart this week (March Break). Yes it was a busy week; but when you know it’s a busy week you need to be more prepared.

We had a terrible room looking at a fence. Shower above sounded like a freight train, AC the same. `Asked for another room, said were full, they were not. Of 250 rooms we got one of a few with no view, We wonder if it was we got a better rate Expedia we got a poor quality room

I have absolutely zero complaints about this hotel. Yes the rooms are a little dated, but that is the only negative thing I have to say. The food was incredible, we ate at the Italian restaurant one night and Mark our server went above and beyond. The entertainment staff was outstanding and strived for the guests to have an amazing time. The front desk ladies were incredibly helpful and the bartenders were always in positive attitudes and having a good time. I recommend this hotel 10x over and over!!

Fourth time at this property. They are clearly investing money as we saw a lot of improvements, like new bedding, paint jobs, and other clean-up projects. There are tons of things to do. The drinks are fun, plentiful, and as strong as you like. The food is so-so, but it’s about average for an all-inclusive resort. With any luck, we’ll be back next year

I faced the trapeze area which was fine. Did hear too much noise at some nights coming from the shows. I went solo , but made good friends with folks who liked to go on long beach walks, see Nat. Luyacan park and Gold Rock beach.

Room right on beach, beach was gorgeous! Perfect for budget friendly travelers. Rooms are clean, but are outdated and need to be renovated. In some rooms paint is clumpy and in places, peeling. Hanger rod and hooks were rusty. Loved the 3 restaurants on site, and enjoyed the daily/nightly entertainment. Would I go again? For the price, and the tranquil vibe, yes.

The entertainment staff take the cake. The director, Carlos is the funniest dude I’ve seen doing this though. Pretty cool and talented people in the crew. Great daily shows.

The food and drinks were very good. Drinks were not watery like at some all inclusive resorts.

The beach and activities were the highlight, but service inconsistencies, room issues, and the membership experience really took away from the vacation. We can see why this is considered a 3-star resort.

The staff was very nice! The resort was about half full and many of the activities were still not available or only open for a couple of hours. You have to get to guest services or the watersport center first thing each morning to schedule restaurants or an activity. The excursions were rescheduled or cancelled multiple times. If you want to swim with the pigs or most other excursions don't book with the resort which requires a 45 minute ride to pigs, just walk down the beach to the right to Cleveland's 5 minute walk better experience and prices. The nightly shows were fun. Water in shower is barely warm and had to keep asking for towels or wash clothes as they never left any after cleaning room. If you just want the beach, pool, buffet, bar, and nice staff then this is good for that.

First, I would like to say the staff was wonderful. Entertainment staff worked VERY hard--shout-out to Theo, those on Trapeze, teaching yoga, dance, etc. Another shout out to Kayshala who worked at customer service. She worked really hard to help us on multiple occasions. The bartenders were great, most of the restaurant staff great and everyone very friendly.
Now, I would give the food a zero star rating. It was boring and the same every single day. No flavor, no spices, just boring. For vegetarians, there were really few choices (I eat fish so that helped) I found one of chefs very rude as well as his sous chef and the restaruant manager on duty that day.
This is a old resort that is in need of a complete remolding. But the beach was wonderful and the ocean beautiful.

Toasters didn't work. Hot tub didn't work while we were there either. Water has some areas of rocks and weeds to watch out for. Not a bad place but I would try somewhere different next time.

We purchased an ALL INCLUSIVE vacation at VFW.
When we arrived, we were informed that ONLY VIP MEMBERS would be served name brand beverages. This was a very disappointing revelation. Mostly friendly staff and beautiful property.
We also reserved a Superior KING room. We received a room with 2 smaller beds. We went on vacation to help boost our marital bond. Sleeping separately does not support that. If I had wanted the 2 smaller beds I would have reserved that style room.
Overall I’m giving a generous 2 star review. They really should consider treating occasional guests with the same benefits “ VIPS”enjoy. Less than bottom shelf liquor is NOT what was sold to in the grossly misleading resort description.

Overall, our stay was very good. We were welcomed with a fruit platter and champagne delivered to our room, which was a lovely gesture. However, the rooms definitely need renovation. In our bathroom there was mold on the ceiling, and the walls in the room were dirty. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was clean.
Despite the room issues, the atmosphere outside was wonderful and the staff were very friendly.

Stay: November 2025. Like most places, there were pros and cons.

Pros:
Beautiful beach and ocean views, fun activities like kayaking, archery, snorkeling.

Activity staff was very friendly and engaging. Enjoyed the pool side activities and appreciated the hard work they put in throughout the day all the way through the night shows.

Bar staff made good drinks and were always friendly and approachable.

Cons:
Property could use a refresh. Unfortunately photos in listing are for members-only rooms and the other rooms were dated and lacked adequate lighting.

Food was just average aside from Viva Cafe.

Some front lobby staff lack customer service. When setting up restaurant reservations, you have to reserve by room number, and # of people in your room. We had another party arrive a day after and could not add them to the reservation until they arrived and had a room number...not a problem. It was very difficult to add them the next day and guest service person seemed very annoyed she was being asked to do so. Got to the restaurant that night and they were not on the reservation. They eventually agreed to seat us but again seemed annoyed at doing so and their service towards our table was noticeably less than the other tables throughout the evening. Come to find out the other room was reserved for a completely different time than our reservation so there was no attempt by this person at guest services to try to add another room to our reservation.

Stay: November 2025 We did not receive the room type we reserved, and while mistakes happen, the front desk staff was rude, dismissive, and blamed Expedia instead of helping. Very poor customer service at check‑in.

Resort grounds were nice — good pool, beautiful beach, and fun activities like trapeze, archery, and nightly games/shows. Unfortunately, the rooms were old and worn: poor lighting, dingy showers, uncomfortable beds, thin sheets, and dated furniture. Walking past the “club” rooms, it was clear they were more updated than the standard rooms.

Food at the buffet was average. Restaurant reservations were frustrating — every guest needed a room number, but even after providing them, the info wasn’t passed to the restaurant, causing confusion and staff making a big deal about incorrect numbers.

Service overall was lacking. No staff came around for drink orders; everything had to be ordered at the bars, unlike other resorts we’ve visited.

Overall: Nice grounds and activities, but rude front desk staff, outdated rooms, and poor dining/service made this a disappointing stay.

Our stay started with the discovery that our bathroom was never cleaned before we checked into our room. A large clump of black hair came out of the drain when we first turned the shower on. It then took 2 additional attempts to clean the room to average standard.
The food at the buffet was not edible. No variety. Could tell that they used previous food and recycled it into other dishes. For example- hot dogs were on the lunch buffet when we arrived on Sunday. Saw those dogs for breakfast and lunch the next day. By the time they took them off the buffet, they were shriveling up and dry from sitting under the heat lamps.
It was not just the quality of food that was lacking, there was not enough food. They would make pancakes for the Buffett in the morning that opened at 7:00 am. They were gone by 8:00 and they would not make any more. Not much left on the buffett at 9:00.
The resort also needs to figure out how to keep the insects (especially flies and bees)off the food. Would find them stuck to the tongs!
The best part of the trip was the beautiful beach. Wyndham has made many improvements to the resort after a hurricane swept through 6 years ago, but rooms need renovation.

They have the potential to be a great place, but due to being poorly managed
housekeeping and food service the resort has a lot to be desired. If they would spend less time trying to get guests to buy into their VIP and vacation clubs, and more time making their resort better for current guests.

Front desk needs to do a better job at check-in by giving out schedules so guests know what’s coming up and when things close. Also, while the room was clean, when it rained, it rained in leisure areas as well as the eating area. Please also add authentic Bahamian food to the menu.

We would never stay here again or recommend it to others.

The floors in the rooms are always wet because of the AC causing condensation on the floors, mirrors, and windows. The room barely had any light so good luck getting ready. During my stay I slipped and fell multiple times on the hard floor due to the AC wetting the floor and due to one more fall as we were leaving, I will have to see a doctor with a toe injury.

The TV in our room was extremely outdated and barely worked—it even shut off completely for an entire night while it rained, leaving us with absolutely nothing to do. The toilet didn’t flush properly, and while the buffet food was decent, it was rarely open when we were actually hungry. They close many times a day. The snack bar, which stays open until 6 PM, only served burgers and hot dogs—and they often ran out.

On our last day, a tropical storm hit. Guests were advised to stay indoors, but at one point, the buffet, snack bar, and convenience store were all closed at the same time—leaving absolutely no food options for several hours. Meanwhile, staff were still working out on the beach. They also are unwilling to help with any discounted rates if a natural disaster cancels flights. They will happily leave you stranded even after you spent over 2k at their facility and show no type

Staff (Tacashanae and Jerry) had a horrible and rude attitude. Gave us a twin bedroom when we paid for a king. Then refused to accommodate and referred us to expedia for support. Flies everywhere in the buffet, the food is a 3/10. The two restaurants were terrible as well. I don't write bad reviews, but this one is an exception. We checked out a day early. Please spend your money elsewhere.

The resort is in desperate need of remodeling or updating. When you arrive you will be met with a salesperson attempting to get you to sit through a sales presentation. If you decline, they will ask over and over. If you still decline, as we did, the sales lady just stared and frowned her face each time she saw us. We normally stay at five star accomodations so I had low expectations coming here and knew that I did not want to buy and of there \"timeshare\" packages. We reserved a king sized bed and received two double beds. Only 3 bottles of water provided for the entire 6 day stay. You must purchase more water or walk over to the main bar or buffet to fill your own water bottles. The staff was hit or miss. Some of the bartenders had condescinding comments when you requested certain bar drinks. We didnt receive beach towel cards upon arrival and was thoroughly questioned by the towel attendant as if we should have already known the rules. The food was basic bland american food and did not have pescatarian options other than Tilapia. There is no room service so if you want breakfast or lunch, you had to go to the buffet or beachside grill area where there were flies and bees all around. We had to walk down the beach to Clevelands beachside restaurant for good food or go offsite to the marketplace. The power went out one evening and it was very hot! The beach was the very best part of the resort. Crystal clear warm water! We even saw dolphins one morning. I wont be returning.
