Lovely pub, clean and comfy room, friendly staff and great food. Nice size car park too. Well placed to explore Oxford as it's only 15 minutes drive to park and ride.

Only a couple of small comments for housekeeping. Only one sachet of milk was provided per day which meant that one of us had to have our coffee back. Also, only the bin was emptied...the bed was left unmade, which is no problem, but why leave the dirty coffee cups and water glasses and not provide clean ones?

Other than that, we totally recommend this pub and will certainly stay again.

The bedrooms and halls probably needed to be refurbished 30 years ago. They certainly are long overdue a completely overhaul today. The bathroom was grimy and there was no excuse for not providing a single chair in the room. What was the point in providing even the tired dressing/table desk without one?

The Dog House is our ‘go to’ place for a get together, we’re a group of 5 bikers, living miles apart from each other and the Dog House is central for all of us.
Another great stay last night, friendly staff, great drink choices and a lovely menu/food. A great breakfast too.

The ‘main man’ on reception/ bar duties, welcomed us on arrival and then although he was had anticipated a slightly early night ( ie empty lounge ) was happy to pause closing up so we could enjoy a night cap when returned from our family get together party. It wasn’t late late, only 10.15 but he served us all.

Really keen staff and good value accommodation.

I stayed one night. All interactions with staff were good, they seemed keen to try to do the best they could. I may have been lucky with my room but everything worked OK and it was in a quiet location which I really liked. The bar was fine, evening meal good and breakfast too. For what I paid I would say it was good value and very rare that I visit a hotel without a problem so thank you to the staff at the Dog House!

The restaurant and garden are nice and the service was good.
Good selection on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan. The food was very good.
Unfortunately the accommodation is extremely tired and is in desperate need of updating / painting. I have been generous with 3 stars as we ate in the restaurant both in the evening and morning.
If you are looking for a place to eat which is dog friendly this is perfect.

Very friendly pub with rooms. Nice feel about the place, with a quality breakfast, ample parking, dog friendly, bar area as well as the restaurant, clean restaurant restrooms and good choice of draft beers etc. Hotel room beds comfortable with nice linen, comfy pillows and nice crockery.
Unfortunately the hotel side of things appear ‘tired’ in many areas with our bedroom spacious but needing a good paint and furniture needing modern replacements. A lot of marked walls, carpets and furniture. No tea and milk in our room on arrival was quickly sorted by staff, but minimal cheap loo roll, unfilled soaps etc were disappointing. Old shower heads. Rooms need an armchair to sit in as only the bed was comfy. Windows had restricted opening so room hot and stuffy at night (fan available).
Food in the restaurant (evening) average, roast dinners were dry. Bar staff shut up shop half an hour early with no last orders called which was a bit disappointing!
We would stay again as reasonable charge for room, but with a bit of a make over the place could be amazing.

the hotel staff were friendly and the rooms clean. No elevators if stairs are an issue. Very old decrepit inn. Road too busy to walk and nothing of interest in the area. You must need your own car if you stay at this inn. Lastly the food in the resteraunt was yucky.

This was our 9th time here, as a group of fellow motorcyclists, this place is a Central meeting place for all of us.
The Dog house could do with a lick of paint, but it is clean. Good selection of drinks, decent meals and a good breakfast.

I chose the property for being 30 mins from Blenheim Palace - the reason for my visit. I liked that there was a free car park. Check-in was quick and staff were pleasant and gave me all key info I needed - breakfast, booked a table for dinner, emergency phone number.

My room was clean and tidy, but was very hot opening or closing the window didn't make any difference. I only stayed one night, but there was plenty of hanging space for clothes.

Dinner was ok reasonable choice of pub food menu. All 3 of us enjoyed our meals.

Pleasant stay let down by bed and WIFI.

Pleasant stay. Great shower, large room, quiet night, very helpful staff and excellent breakfast. Let down a little by small double bed (felt smaller due to size of room) and no WIFI (apparently they were having issues with it but the way it was described it seemed to be a regular thing and there seemed to be an acceptance of it not working which is not great at all).

Woke up covered in bites and itching all over, room was depressing, cracked windows, damp and mouldy carpets, bile can’t believe it hasn’t been shut down!

A mixed experience

The evening meals and breakfast in the restaurant were very good. Even though the breakfast staff were busy and struggled to get meals out in a timely manner, they still removed the self service counter before all breakfasts were served by 10.00 am !! and did not notify guests. This was poor customer service.

The property is clean and well looked after, however while it is in reasonable condition it needs a large number of window frames replacing due to clear indications of rot which will not be solved with paint.
It is clear that some management processes are preventing the best operation.

Hotel was ok but there was a chronic lack of staff and the catering facilities were restricted due to the deep fat fryer going \"bang\".
The duty manager on Friday was great and very accomodating, i think her name was Chloe. Again the staff that were in were very helpful.
We pre booked breakfast but were unable to have it as the chef, Josh, refused to get out of bed.
The duty manager on Sunday suggested \"we give him a shout\" ???
Room was tired and dated but comfortable and the evening meals were very good.
I will be contacting Greene Kung to complain as no refund for the breakfast was offered due to the Chef's inability to get out of bed.
This could have been so much better as the pub has lots of potential and i feel very sorry for the hard working staff but they are let down by the incompetent ones

Got to the hotel to see a sign saying no food unless pre booked went too the bar only too find some of the tap beers not available
So went to Oxford for the rest of the day had a great meal back to hotel at 2230 to get some sleep only to find the mattress had springs stick out
When complained in the morning all we got was we will order a new one not even a sorry
All in all not a good experience

Lovely country stay on the outskirts of Abingdon

Very welcoming staff & we were able to spend several hours relaxing over coffees, lunch & afternoon tea without feeling as we'd 'over-stayed'.
Three of us had a triple rooom for the night. The room was clean but dated - in need of a refresh.
The food was excellent.
We'll definitely return in the future.

on arrival i had to go and find a cash machine as the reception couldnt take a card payment
after a 6 mile drive i returned with cash for the room
once in the room it soon became apparent that none of the radiators were on
it was far easier to simply bleed them myself than go down two flights of stairs and ask for help
owners of hotels should stay in rooms to see if they are suitable
the room was cold, with cobwebs and dust in nooks and crannies, a dirty toilet too but once the radiators were hot it was comfy enough
a nice big bath made up for it in the end

I did sleep well and, on balance, will stay there again as it is near a regular workplace of mine

Bed was made up with dirty bedding so asked to be moved. In the next room there was no shower gel or soap, the cups were dirty and there were no water glasses.
The mansger really couldn't have been less bothered. Our last stay at the Dog House.

We arrived very late after a long and tedious journey. We were made welcome and looked after. During our stay the staff looked after us very well. We are pensioners in our 80's coming to Oxford to visit family. Staying here and with the service we were afforded made this trip really enjoyable. Have no hesitation it recommending The Dog House and would certainly stay again if we ever return to the area.
