Spent 2 nights at this strip-mall style nondescript bland & gaudy hotel used to be called 'East is Red' mainly catering ethnic Chinese clienteles. Room was spacious but everything showed well worn due to long usage. Safety box was not working and front desk staff could barely be bothered to help or explain. The hotel served my purpose well of visiting local friend who lives nearby.

When I first checked in,they gave me a room with no window. I appealled to the counter that they should hv stated if the room I booked hv no window. They wanted me to complaint to Expedia or else I hv to upgrade to a room with window and need to pay some extra money. Anyhow, finally they change me a room with window and no extra charges.

The room was great. The location is good,close to restaurants. The shower head was loose and the staff 3 times and it wad never fixed. That's the only set back.

bad experience in emergency handling

on that day I check in , that is a electricity supply issue cause by TNB, but we found all emergency exit is locked, and in the room don't have emergency light,
at the morning staff is talking loud outside room, we can't sleep well

System down for check in , but front desk officer bring me to room first while waiting for room card. Surprisingly committed for 30 minute , all done within 10 minute delivers to room.

Good stay but need improvement on customer service

Room was good and clean, and there's restaurants nearby, just walking distance.
If you're a night owl, this is the place, there are a lot bars nearby.
Staffs from Afternoon shift were not so friendly, as we have encountered some issues on our booking.
And we need to resolve the problem by ourselves, rather than getting assistance from them.
Other than that, it was fine.

It was OK!

We stayed a night at this hotel as we were attending a dinner and drinks get together with some family and friends which was nearby the hotel.

Checking in was ok....the front desk staff is a wee bit slow but not too bad. The room was small but clean. The basic necessities were available. The air conditioner worked very well which was an 'A' in our books. Had a good night sleep after the merrymaking.

Checking out was not too shabby either.

There's convenience stores opposite the hotel. A pretty good Chinese restaurant within the hotel premises. Some drinking establishments very nearby as well.

All in all it was pleasant and if we had to do it again we will.

We booked 2 family rooms, the front desk staffs spent almost 30mins just to check the rooms. At the end, they told us only 1 family room available, the other room released to agoda. By right they should upgrade or compensate us with better room, but they only offered us a smaller room(standard) without apologizing. Overall, we have terrible experience with the hotel, especially the front desk staffs. Definitely will not come back to this hotel.

Bad experience with check in

I have booked two room in this hotel for a wedding dinner in the restaurant next to it.

Upon check in, the staff told me that the price that I paid to Expedia was lower compare to their current rate. They requested me to TOP up the difference but I insisted that I have paid in full while booking. I asked to spoke with their higher manager, a lady in their HQ told us the rate that we booked was not updated. After some argument, they finally allowed to check in without paying the difference. This is the first time in my whole life that I encountered this kind of issue. I suggest the management should look into this matter and improve.

Classy budget hotel

It is near to Kim Hee restaurant. A good choice if you having wedding dinner with Kim Hee restaurant and being told there is additional 10% discount (call in for reservation only). Look classy at the receptions and the building renovation. However the room lack of mirrors for make up.

Bukit Mertajam stay

Stayed at the hotel from 21-25th Dec 2015. It was a family trip for visiting relatives. It is a new hotel, opened about 1 year ago. Room was very clean and spacious. The wifi provided was stable and didn't give us any problems. The area is in metarjam, a much quieter place compared to George Town or Batu Ferringhi. So in terms of places for sightseeing or cabs, there is much less to do and it is also much much harder to hail a cab. My advice is to rent a car if you are visiting this part of Penang.
That said, the food here is still the main draw and at much cheaper prices compared to the touristy locations such as George Town.

New, clean hotel.

The hotel was only six months old and very pleasant, with nice decorations and comfortable, practically fitted bedroom. Some acceptable sound from an adjacent restaurant was apparent on two nights during our week-long stay. No restaurant in the hotel but many food outlets and restaurants available locally.

hotel very new.renovated with beautiful decoration.
I had book 1 night standard room.after check in only found that the room has no window available. I call to reception to request to upgrade to deluxe room by paying extra money. But, they declined.quite disappointed.

Will not return. I stayed in a business king room. It's feels like a normal double bed room. The main reason I will not return is because of the noise. My room was close to a huge ventilation system for the restaurant, the noise is unbearable.

Bad toilet design and misleading photo

Very bad experience...
The photo is different from actual, it was taken from other branch. The toilet is see through type, not suitable for non-couple!! The design of toilet is really bad as if you are sleeping next to a open toilet, kill appetite for food!! Pls put the correct room photo!! Cover the toilet with something!!

I am satisfied with my stay at e-red hotel. The room is clean meet the standard for a family with a toddler even without window. The room and the hotel exterior is satisfactory. One setback is the service is slow and ineffective, the staff at front desk not friendly enough. The hotel surrounding is quiet with enough parking.
