We loved our time at this unique property. We stayed in the family room (which was well-appointed and very clean). The food was delightful and we enjoyed the welcome drinks at check-in since we're Expedia VIPs. The food was delicious and the staff was incredibly attentive. Our kids loved the pool and kayaking on the lake. They also had a cute activity where the kids could pick veggies from their garden and they served them up for breakfast. Overall, I would give our stay 4.7 stars. Everything was perfect except for the fact that our room didn't have any hot water. I know that this is a common thing in El Salvador, but we didn't expect this considering the price for the family room. It was way too cold for our kids but we made it work since we only stayed for one night. If the staff are able to remedy this then we would have zero complaints. Other than that, it was a perfect stay!

The hotel was pleasant and well kept for the most part. The pool could use some maintenance, but it wasn't a big deal.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but the customer service by the woman in the front office was lacking. Three of the people in our party were leaving at 5am the next morning to hike a volcano. Because breakfast was included in our stay and they wouldn't be there for it, I asked if the kitchen could please give them something simple to take, even just bread, and she said that wasn't possible because the kitchen wouldn't be open that early. The kitchen was open in the evening when I asked her, so someone could've just grabbed some, but she wasn't willing to do that. For a pricey hotel it was disappointing that they couldn't accommodate a very simple request, especially because bread was part of the breakfast plate that's included.

The hotel also doesn't allow guests to bring food in from outside to eat in their room. The staff at the bar/restaurant were wonderful and helpful, but the lady at the front desk was quite rude. I also asked for an additional key because we were 4 adults with different plans, but I was told that wasn't possible either.

It is a very nice set up with he pool and the lake. There are kayaks and paddle available for free and you can rent boats and jet skis on site. The food was good. The room were clean. We had a great time.

The hotel is clean and decor is minimal, but comfortable.The hotel restauant is great, very good food and drinks! Staff is very friendly and accomodating. The views of the lake from our room and deck (room 2B) and dining area are fabulous! Beautiful lake!.The only down side is this hotel is very remote and the roads that lead to it are very rough - all dirt and very far from the main road. Some Ubers did not want to drive to the hotel. However, the hotel did provide transportation for a fee.

The seafood soup was delicious, and the pupusas were great, although they had an excessive amount of cheese compared to the chicaron. The hot chocolate was amazing. The breakfast was solid, and the alcoholic drinks were great, especially the pina colada. It would be nice if the property had a gym.

We booked for three nights and only stayed one night due to poor maintenance of the facilities. The dock is very cool and the views but that was it. We were so disappointed. So much potential here.

If you have any issue walking stairs - this won’t be the best place for you to stay. Only two rooms are downstairs and the rest are upstairs. As you can see from the hotel photos, the pool and the dock are down several stairs. I had asked to the hotel ahead of time twice if my room was downstairs as it had to be, since I cannot walk stairs, and there was no response. So when I got there, I was given a room upstairs. From that point, the hotel went above and beyond to help me with all that. They literally had two of the men at the resort, carry me up the stairs in a wheelchair and then back down in the morning.

The view here is phenomenal. The hotel offers so much peace and easy access to the lake with unlimited kayaking included in your recreation. The staff were great. I have much more positive things to say about my stay than negative…. The only thing is that I found the pool water to have an opaque color and didn’t seem as clean in comparison to crystal clear pools I’ve been too. Though regardless of that factor I would 100% come back and recommend.

The positives were nice lakeview for my room (the property has lake access), very clean room, nice food, nice breakfast, friendly staff. Katia was very efficient. You can get free kayak and other gear. The negatives were the dusty dirt road you have to drive to get there (which is not their fault, but which was not clear to me before booking), the mosquitoes, and the fact that a few stray dogs kept coming in when people were eating. They were harmless, I think the staff knows them, but it made me uncomfortable.

The hotel is at the end of the narrow dirt road of the lake and is almost no street lights. It is too far away from the other hotels and water activities. Please consider this as you will be isolated from the rest of the island unless this is your objective. However, we found that the hotel does not offer enough amenities to make it worth while. There is one jetski and several padel boards and kayaks which will require you to have some level of fitness. There pool is dated and needed repairs (not how it was advertised) But please consider the fact the hotel sits on the south side of the lake which the mountain will cover the hotel earlier in the day which limits the sun light. This made the place seem darker and less conducent to stay out in the water. Our stay was in first week of December (for a point of reference) and this side of the lake was pretty lonely. If you're looking for a more active vibe this is not it. The have a day pass charge of $25 for each person and you are not allowed into any of the rooms. After a certain time you will not be allowed into the docking area near the water. My recommendation is to stay closer to the North eastern side of the island (towards the entrance) to take full advantage of the restaurant, bars and water activities.

El Hotel Equinoccio es un lugar hermoso frente al Lago Coatepeque. Desde el primer momento encontramos un espacio limpio, cuidado y con un ambiente especial. Pudimos participar en la ceremonia del Equinoccio de otoño, organizada por el hotel, que fue algo muy lindo y significativo. También vivimos una experiencia distinta con Juan López, barista del hotel, quien nos ofreció una demostración de café excelente, explicada con detalle y pasión. La comida y las bebidas siempre salían a tiempo, bien preparadas y con muy buen sabor.

Al final, lo que marca la diferencia son las personas: quiero resaltar el trabajo de Eduardo, siempre atento y servicial. Además, la estadía incluye el desayuno y las actividades acuáticas como el kayak, lo cual añade mucho valor.

Si hubiera algo que recomendar para mejorar, sería tener un itinerario visible de las actividades tal vez en una pizarrita en el vestíbulo, sería un detalle muy útil para los huéspedes.

Definitivamente, un lugar al que me encantaría regresar.

We took their kayaks out in the morning for peaceful trip around lake - jet ski was also available. The road around the lake is pretty rough but once we got to the hotel, this was a perfect hideaway. For foreigners, you have to go 20 minutes down a rock road which runs along the lake. Plenty of options for restaurants along the way. Fairly easy to locate, I would stress that you do not attempt to drive to or from here at night because of the road. The restaurant/bar on site had great food and I ate here each night. Decent alcohol selection. The views are the lake make it worth staying and only a hour or less out from major sites, I used it as my home base.

The road for the last 3 miles to hotel was not paved and had numerous serious potholes. You definitely need an SUV, especially if rain is forecasted. We stayed at Equinoccio for our 1-year wedding anniversary and it was absolutely incredible, so I felt compelled to leave a review.

This locally-owned hotel felt like a true boutique experience: the views were amazing, the rooms were clean and had really good A/C and the facility is pristine. The amenities included a restaurant/bar, jet ski/boating, and transportation.

One of the most notable things was the above and beyond hospitality. The staff are amazing - welcoming and attentive. We never had to flag anyone down because they always checked on us. It really made us feel special.

Further, the manager Carlos was incredible. After a visit to a coffee farm he offered to personally pick us up. He shared the hotel's philosophy on supporting the local community, from the people he hired to the ingredients in the meals. That's something you don't experience often

A very nice and welcome surprise was the AMAZING food. Quite literally some of the best authentic Salvadoran food we had while on the trip. They also roast their own coffee and I'm actually drinking a cup of their coffee as I type this.

Let me tell you - I don't write reviews often, but Equinnocio is amazing and I hope it remains a staple in the area. Please do yourself the favor and stay here.
