We had a wonderful two night stay and this was the highlight venue of our three week travel. Joyce and Gary are wonderful hosts and our room was stunning. We visited several events in the area including Balmoral and the Highland Games in Dufftown so our only regret was that we did not get to spend enough time just enjoying the room! We DID take Joyce's suggestion the very first night to walk into town to the Boat Pub and that was a special time. We loved our time and would love to return.

Everything about staying at Lys-Na-Greyne is exceptional, but what really stands out is the classy and elegant, yet really friendly hospitality of Joyce and Gary. Luxury bed and breakfast it certainly is, with optional luxury evening platters available (which we had twice - amazing - with more than enough on the platter for both of us to share!). Great recommendations also from Joyce from where to eat to things to see or local walks.

Every part of our stay was perfect – the accommodation, the property itself, the food and the hosting; absolutely spot on. We already had high hopes based on reviews, but were not let down - far from it.
Food – I have a gluten free diet, and this was well catered for, so I didn’t feel I was missing out as often happens. The breakfasts certainly set you up for the day, and local high quality ingredients are sourced, such as local bacon and eggs from the same town. Photos of platters available in the evening are shown on their website, but don’t do them justice – they’re far more filling than expected, and again every part of the meal has a local, known high quality provenance, such as cheeses from nearby Strathdon.
Accommodation – superb bedroom and a bathroom larger than my bedroom at home. Absolutely stunning facilities, and a pleasure to relax in an enormous bath at the end of the day. I can’t think of any way to improve the rooms.
Locally there are walks for all abilities, and a short drive away are some more challenging hills, as well as distilleries and castles. We can recommend the Linn of Dee near Braemar as well as Prince Albert memorial (Scotland’s pyramid!) on the Ballater estate.

Joyce and Gary were incredible hosts! The property itself was absolutely magical and knowing that it is their family home made it extra special. We were greeted with the utmost hospitality as soon as we entered the house and could not have asked for a better stay. Our room was amazing and the freshly prepared breakfast each morning was unbeatable. Joyce gave really good suggestions as to where to go and what to do, and overall our stay was just so wonderful, wish it could have been longer! Simply the best! My wife and I completed a 10-day trip to Scotland in which we toured most of the country, staying in a different town and guest house every night. Our only regret of the trip is that we did not stay more than one night at Lys-Na-Greyne. The property is absolutely stunning from the outside, with beautiful gardens set next to the River Dee. However, once you step inside, it becomes more than just a beautiful guest house.
After Joyce greeted us with a warmth usually reserved for family, we were shown to our room. The room, as with the rest of the home, was immaculately clean and well appointed. No details were missed, with USB outlets next to the bedside as well as a walk-in rainshower in the bathroom. If you are looking for typical, small cramped European accommodations, you will need to look elsewhere, as the bedroom and bathroom and other areas of the house are spacious.
Following getting settled in our room, Joyce invited us down to enjoy tea, coffee and homemade banana bread in either the sitting room, sunroom, or on the deck overlooking the river. It offered the perfect opportunity to unwind after the day. She also gave us recommendations for dinner and she even called and made reservations for us. Joyce was the ultimate hostess who has thought of every little detail to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. I felt like I was staying with distant family. The beds are comfortable, breakfast is delicious and you even get home baking with tea in the lounge after a long day of exploring. We were attending a wedding and when our taxi was late she drove us to the venue nearby, which was above and beyond. I would highly recommend staying here.

We stopped here on a whim as part of our romantic tour of Scotland and it was a highlight we will never forget. We booked one night in a superior suite with river view and the room was fabulous - first class quality all the way with an extremely comfortable bed (better than the majority of top end hotels in which we have stayed) and a well appointed bathroom with free standing soaking tub and shower. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Joyce is a fantastic hostess! Warm, caring and very concerned that your stay is perfect. From communicating prior to arrival, making reservations, or suggestions for sightseeing - she is a real pleasure. The house and setting are stunning. We stayed in Room 2, with our own balcony. Where to start... I often find 'luxury' hotels or B&B's a little underwhelming, more image over substance. However, this B&B absolutely delivers and more - the location is wonderful, the accommodation/rooms are perfect and the breakfast is delicious.
On top of that, Joyce is the most amazing host. Constantly helpful, cheerful and welcoming, helping us with planning routes to walk, where to eat in the evening and always offering us cake, tea, coffee or complementary whiskey. She made our stay really memorable, and we loved chatting to her.
The rooms are really comfortable (we slept better than any other holiday), and the surroundings quiet. Our view over the river, fields and into hills was beautiful. Breakfast was delicious, with a variety of hot and cold options, all locally sourced.
We'll be looking to go back again and stay with Joyce!

I wasn't sure if a B&B was for me as I usually like my privacy but this was an amazing experience. The housed was absolutely beautiful, the rooms were huge and immaculately clean. My host, Joyce, was delightful and all the other guests I met were lovely. I ended up having an hour + conversation with a couple at breakfast.
