The property itself desperately needs significant investment, restoration and renovation.

Reception and bar staff friendly on arrival. We were initially given room 5 - it had a double and 2 single beds and was filthy. Dripping liquid on the bedside table (not a stain, just not cleaned), no valance on the dirty/stained divan, handle missing from the chest of drawers. The furniture wasn't arranged optimally. Overall, it had a feel of a care home you'd be put in if you weren't nice to your kids!

I requested a room change, which was offered with no quibbles by a reception staff member. We were moved to room 8, which was markedly better, but still not great. Real old world styling, but needs upkeep - peeling wallpaper, a badly repaired 4 poster bed, nowhere to plug the kettle in unless you put it on the floor, a small TV with no Smart capabilities (a luxury, I know), with a really poor digital service - turned off continuously randomly. The bathroom clearly had drain issues and had a foul odour.

The saving grace of this stay was how nice the staff were. The breakfast was lovely, including the service.

The cleaning staff need a good shake up and major investment & effective preventative mainentance is in great need.

I was in the Old Lodgings 5 miss walk down the road. Very thin walls, loud party on 1st night kept me up to early hours. Generally could hear everyone moving around. WiFi was off over 12 hours 1 day. Cleaner didn't empty bin 1 day. Pretty good Value for money though & good overall location

Our room was in the Old Swan,it is a property that the Old Lodge must own. It's a few minutes walk from the lodge.It was ok but wouldn't stay again. Breakfast was lovely,fresh fruit, croissants, everything cooked to order.
The only niggle was that we went for a drink in the lounge about 9 o clock,and it was just staff stood there ,one was swearing,which I don't think was acceptable in a posh establishment and while guests were present .
Check in staff were lovely,but we won't be staying again.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
We arrived and walked down to a room in another building , it was a dirty, poorly maintained disgrace, smashed window in the room , cobwebs , pint peeling g , lights hanging out if the ceiling and stains on the floor … SO we asked for a better room it was room 4 , ignoring the noise from in the bar the peeling wall paper and black mould and flaking paint it was ok ! Oh the bed was a 4 poster but not actually built more leaving together. The shower was pointless the smell from the drains horrendous. We would have complained but when we got back after an evening’s entertainment we came back to staff brawling and shouting at each other somewhere behind reception so gave up. When I complained in the morning I was asked to email in .

Its such a beautiful boutique hotel. The rooms were so big and spacious with everything you need. The bar and breakfast/dining room restaurant really yum. Wonderful views, lovely gardens, free parking. Wild life on the lawns whilst having dinner. I loved it. The only drawback, it is not good water pressure for shower, but the bath was massive.

When we arrived about 5.45pm Sunday evening we could hear a lot of noise coming from the bar area . We went to our room and freshened up arriving back at the bar about 6.15pm. The bar was dominated by a group of \"locals\" who were worst for wear, shouting and swearing. My husband and I retreated to the terrace which was a bit cool. We asked if any managers were on duty and were told no. The staff were just youngsters and had no authority to deal with these people. We were told that the manager wouldn't subdue these people as they were regular customers. We will not be booking this hotel again. As for the room it was a deluxe room but was lacking in fundamental

Booked through Hotel.com. The photos give you an impression that you are staying in a lovely old building with nice grounds surrounding it, but in the small print. You are actually in a building 100 metres down the road near the town. You can drive down and drop off luggage but will need to return car to hotel car park. The path was closed due to utility repairs, so you had to walk on the road . The front entrance had no lighting so needed to use light on phone to go down steps. While carrying all my luggage. The drain at entrance also had a slight smell of sewage. The room was a good size. TV very small. Room was clean but paint peeling off one corner and carpet badly marked. WI-FI was terrible in room and lounge room. My room was next to road and was quite busy and noisy. Actually didn’t use it in the end as it was so bad. Layout of building not well indicated. Entrance to main hotel very tight and not lit very well. Original entrance closed. Never went to main hotel to check out restaurant and bar as it was quicker to walk into the town. When I complained (politely) on arrival the receptionist passed me the key and directions (bad photocopy) and just walked off. Probably fed up of complaints as the two people before me were asking for there rooms to be changed. Very disappointing experience.

Clearly had been an impressive building with great facilities. Needs a massive update and refresh. Who has carpet in a bathroom, especially a hotel? (which had marks/stains throughout the room). Noisy room (7) which was over bar, made worse by dishwashing glasses at 2.00am! Breakfast was average, overcooked sausages, as an example. Over-priced for what it offers as accommodation. Could be brilliant, but needs work to clean the rooms, woyld be a start! Sorry.

Biggest issue was noise from upstairs occupants walking around & talking - not their fault to floor had poor (if any) sound insulation. Generally needs a good clean, windows need sorting out to fully close and reduce road noise and the beds need the slats replacing to offer better support. Was just about ok for a cheap break but needs some significant improvements for me to consider returning.

This is a beautiful old lodge set in large grounds. Parking is easy and the market, pubs and restaurants are easily walkable. We had a lovely suite. We had problems getting wifi maybe because of the thick stone walls and the bathroom was dated and small, but overall it was a lovely hotel.

White a bit of noise from outside but for the rates and everything else about the hotel this is a minor point. The property has a lot of character with lovely grounds. If you are looking for something different to mainstream then The Old Lodge is for you. We stayed in a very large room on the ground floor. The bed was a four poster bed with a super king size mattress. Unfortunately the bedframe squeaked as you get in and out of bed which is not ideal. Everything looked clean except the carpet which could do with a deep clean. The room has a view of the beautiful grounds, albeit obstructed by the TV.

Whilst I acknowledge the “annexe” is cheaper than the hotel. The room is in poor condition, cracked wall, ceilings, plasterboard holes, stained carpets, TV can’t be seen from the bed as it’s so small in comparison to the room, only saving grace was the bed was ok to sleep in!

Lots of characture in this small hotel. Stayed in the annex which is within the building and satisfactory. Had all that was required for a shrot stay. One drawback during our stay the weather was hot and no air conditioning other than a fan. It would have been nicer to have airconditioning. Also there was limited room for evening dining but plenty venues within 5 minutes in the town.

Everything was as good as it could be, amazing room overlooking the grounds, really comfy beds, nice bathroom, everything nice and clean, staff were brilliant really friendly and professional.. we didn't eat in the evening here we ate out every night but the breakfast was lovely plenty of choice for my son... Couldn't ask for more really and Malton is a lovely little place lots of shops and pubs ... Overall I'd give The Old Lodge 10/10 !!

Fantastic hotel in Malton, the food capital of Yorkshire.

We loved our room, which was kindly upgraded. The room was huge and comfortable with great views of the gardens.

Bathroom was also spacious with a roll top bath and separate shower, a great place to unwind and relax.

We also had breakfast at the property which was good, although slightly on the pricey end.

The location is excellent, and you can walk into the centre in 5 minutes.

Overall, highly recommended and we will be back!

Had lovely room with four poster bed, after being upgraded . Slept like a log! Would def recommend. Only negatives would be tired looking carpets and expensive breakfast. The veggie one only had 2 sausages, though meat option had 3 and black pudding. However , during our party of 6 having breakfast, they ran out of tomatoes, black pudding and mushrooms, so that could be better. Wouldn’t stop me going back though- we loved it! Easy walk into town.

Arrived and told we were given a free upgrade which we were delighted with! However we were given a room with 2 single beds, which we hadn’t booked so were given a room with a double. I understand this is a very old building, and we actually love that, however the cleanliness and decor were awful. The bathroom was just disgusting, mould everywhere, dusty dirty floor and splashes up the wall of god knows what!! Curtains were hanging off the rail and were filthy.
The only saving grace was the bed was comfy and we slept well! The headboard was so scruffy and not pleasant. There’s simply no excuse for this! You can’t blame the fact it’s an old building on these issues. Some serious cleaning and updating is very much needed. It’s a shame because we felt this place could have been so much better with a little care. We stayed in room 16.

Beautiful building in a nice market town, with good links to Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington & York.

Reception, bar, restaurant all nice and decorated well. Lovely staff who are both welcoming and friendly.

The town itself has good amenities. Plenty of bars and pins which do nice food.

The negatives I can only speak from my own experience in the room I was staying in. It is in definite need of redecorating. It is obvious the style they are going for due to the building itself (clearly a listed building), but I'd say an upgrade in decor is necessary for the room I stayed in.

The bed in my room (wooden four poster) was the creekiest bed I've ever slept in, resulting in 2 restless nights.

Overall solid, with some areas for improvement.

I wanted to like it - but for me it was just okay. We were only looking for a bed to stay in overnight during a weekend visit to York, and so expectations were not high anyway. We were warned ahead of time by the management that they had an event that evening -so was not surprised to find no one able to help us check in. It took 3 attempts at finding someone able to do so - and about 30 minutes of waiting. Not a great experience for us when we had been driving all day and were tired.They were incredibly shortstaffed for having an event -and had appeared to have no one available at the front desk for other guests. Maybe next time hire some college kids to come help out while the party is going on. At least an extra hand or two. Also had no parking available either -as the party guests all had taken every space. We parked \"illegally\" for a few hours at our own risk until some of the guests had left. Otherwise, the place was a very basic room with a separate toilet/shower room, bed was very small for a double, and we had a hard night's sleep due to being cramped. Next day, breakfast was wonderful (included in the price of the room) and definitely made up for the inconvenient last evening. Excellent food and service in the morning! I did appreciate that. I recommend making sure there is no party going on if staying there - Unless you're part of the party of course! I did appreciate the headsup from management - but I didn't realize it was going to be an issue til we came.

Hotel set in lovely gardens, ideal if u like old properties with character.The staff very friendly and obliging. Plenty of parking and very convenient for the lovely town of Malton 👍.
