This property is very well maintained and far better than many chain hotels like Holiday Inn or Premier Inn. The room had everything we needed for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cosy, clean, and well-equipped place to stay!

Pub, food and staff were lovely. Good location. Dog friendly.
The annexe/bungalow however had a few issues including radiators being stuck on, shower leakages and the building being very noisy at night due to a large amount of rooms/people in a small space. I do however feel like we were just quite unlucky so would encourage others to stay here.

Convenient location close to the A64 and a number of Yorkshire attractions. My room was in an annexe building at the top of the car park. All was bright, clean and warm. The bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Ample tea and coffee in the room. Strong free WiFi. Room on the small side and bathroom tiny though adequate. Problem with shower tray draining slowly reported to staff. Staff in the main building pleasant and eager to please. The crowning glory is the pub and particularly the food which was excellent both for the evening meal and breakfast.

The hotel location was ideal for my onward travel the nrxt morning. The staff were really helpful at check-in and in the bar/restaurant. I was informed that breakfast started at 08:00 and when I said that I would be leaving before breakfast started a pre-prepared breakfast snack and water was provided for me the following morning.

We stayed at the Ham and Cheese for two nights as a family (with a 3 and 6 year old). The room was perfect - spacious, clean and had one massive bed and two single beds. The bathroom was sperate and further away from the bedroom which was nice. The pub wasnt too noisy in the evening and totally silent once people had left. We ate twice in the evening and the food was really good. The staff were great. The only negative was at the bottom of the stairs before coming into the room it smelt really badly of sewage. This smell wasnt in the main part of the pub or the room though. Otherwise, the location was convenient. We used it as a base to drive across to the coast one day, and York the next.

The bedroom was clean, tidy & comfortable. The en-suute bathroom was also clean with electric shower. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good and you could choose what you wanted from the menu. The accommodation is above a pub & also they have a separate bungalow in the grounds with 5 rooms. I can reccommend this place for a stay.

We stayed for 1 night, so can't comment about the area, the pub is lovely, with a comfy area for drinking, bar area for eating & separate restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff & food was delicious. We had a dog & stayed in a separate building but this was fine & only 2mjn walk away. There is a deadend road opposite which is perfect for walking the dog with several poo bins. Would certainly stay again when in the area. It is right next to the A64 but we never heard any traffic in our room.

What a great place this is. The pub is so lovely and so are the staff, so friendly and obliging. It was like a home from home.
The food was 1st class and the huge breakfast set you up for the day. The Ham &Cheese Ploughman’s was epic.

We spent 2 nights at the Ham and Cheese and were thoroughly delighted with every aspect and service they provided. The food was delicious and served efficiently with a friendly smile. The 3 rooms we utilised were clean and well furnished. Bathrooms were a bit small but the shower was fairly big and worked well. Well situated for places we wished to visit, York, Pickering, Whitby and Scarborough. Great stay overall.

The property is located just off the A64. It’s within easy, travelling distance of Castle, Howard, Scampston Hall, Malton and the coast.

I stayed for two nights. I slept well. My room was comfortable and clean.. I had a good breakfast both days, one of the evenings ate in the pub. The food was delicious. Parking was easy.

All the staff I dealt with by friendly and helpful.

Great rooms, slow breakfast service.

The rooms are lovely and the bar / restaurant service was great. I would recommend taking earplugs with you as the walls in the rooms appeared to be quite thin and I could hear everything in the other rooms next to me.

Also, breakfast service was very slow and started too late (8am but they did have a sign in the room saying a pack-up could be made - which I didn’t see until I was leaving). I was sat there for 10 minutes before I was asked what I actually wanted to eat. I was only the second person to go down for breakfast so it’s not like it was busy. The lady was chatting to a couple that were already in the restaurant for a while before asking them for tea and coffee and then coming to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to sample whether the food was decent or not as I abandoned waiting for it to arrive. The whole experience was too slow. All I can say is the food for the evening meal was great.

We have just had a great 2 night stay here. The family room was huge, very clean and comfortable (the photos dont do it justice).
Breakfast was perfect and we also had evening meals each night which were big portions.
We found it a very friendly environment and enjoyed relaxing in the bar and playing pool.

Happy at the Ham & Cheese!!

After a fun filled day at Flamingo Land we arrived at the Inn just after 7pm to a warm welcome. Had a delicious evening meal before retiring for the night. Room was fantastic for the 5 of us. The fan was a bonus!!
A yummy cooked breakfast in the morning set us up for our journey home! Beautiful place to stay, staff so lovely.

Three Nights In Yorkshire

The hotel was good with really friendly staff and service. The room was clean and bright but the bed was past its sell by date and had a distinct dip making it feel a little uncomfortable. The en suite was clean and fresh but the water hammer in the plumbing disturbed our sleep if anyone in the other rooms used the bathroom in the night. Mine host was extremely nice and happy to have us stay. All the food and drink we had was well served and tasted great especially the steak and ale pie with rustic chips. Overall I would recommend the Ham & Cheese but they really need to fix the plumbing 😂

This is a perfectly good B&B for an overnight stay in the Yorkshire Moors region, but not “superb.” I rate it right in the middle of the many hotels I’ve visited over the years. The service was quite good, but the car park was dark with an uneven surface, and I was blocked in twice. The room was practically new with all the amenities but *very* small. Breakfast was excellent except for the sausage - sometimes “locally sourced” can be a limitation.

When we arrived the place was so busy and not a face mask in sight even the staff had their masks of. We had to wait while they sorted out a room as the cleaner was of with covid not surprised really. When we got our room it was not what we had booked. We left after a couple of minutes Absaloutly disgusted. We eventually got a lovely clean room where covid rules were followed and the service was perfect and a lot cheaper.

Don’t judge a book by the cover!
With the mock Tudor frontage, the bin in the yard overflowing with black plastic bags, every inch of the walls in the bar area covered with joke plaques plus the live tortoise in the bar, our 1st impression wasn’t great I have to say?
BUT… all the staff we’re lovely, couldn’t do enough for us, 4 excellent cask ales on sale, the food was excellent, I had a steak and my wife had steak pie, both 10/10, the room was clean, bit small maybe? Good shower, so all in all excellent place, would certainly go again

An excellent place to stay.

It was a lovely stay, and we would happily return again. The only difficulty was that having requested a gluten free breakfast, my partner was accidentally served a sausage that contained gluten (this, despite querying it when it arrived) and spent the rest of the day in pain.

It seems a shame to have to say this, because so much else was so good- the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were spotlessly clean and there were numbers thoughtful touches such as extra drinks in the room. We would be really pleased to come here again.

A welcome reception is guaranteed.

We had a lovely four night stay at the Ham & Cheese. The room was adequate and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The included breakfast was very nice as were the meals we had on an evening. My hubby said the steak pie ‘was the best he’d ever had”.I’d say the same for the Ham and Cheese special Ploughman’s, it was divine! The staff were also very friendly and courteous and are a credit to the owners of this lovely establishment. We will hopefully be returning nearer to Christmastime for a mulled wine by the fire.

From the minute we walked in, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and that continued throughout the evening with all the staff.

The efforts the owners Shaun and Claire have gone to in order to provide a service during nervous times for many is simply amazing.
