Being silly hack, travel can sometimes be very disappointing and dangerous for me. I was very impressed with a breakfast that was available. Lots of healthy gluten-free options that actually taste good fresh fruit, oats, boiled eggs, fresh juice. This location is very close to Tollymore Forest Park. I chose to walk the 700 m to the gate and along the way I passed a sheep farm. There were baby lambs all over the place and the owner invited me to go pet them. It was a wonderful experience and I would definitely go back there again and stay longer.

No, the room wasn't spotless. There was dust and a used tissue lying under the bed and the room needed a good clean overall. However, the bed linen was clean and the bed very comfortable. The house was cosy warm. Our room however, had several damp patches, mainly on the ceiling and a trickle of water running down the wall which need addressed.

The property was advertised as having a hot tub (this was why I booked). When I asked about it, the host said \"it wasn't available for use\", therefore this is misleading!

The website showed a full mini bar including various chocolate, however it was empty. When I asked about this, I was told the delivery had not arrived. It did not arrive during our stay.

The host's attitude left a bit to be desired, mainly when he made reference to the amount of food which had been consumed by the guests on our first morning at breakfast! The food consumed was not overboard. I think he misinterpreted our staying to chat after breakfast was finished and thought we were late leaving due to the amount of food we had!

The morning we checked out there was a female member of staff present at breakfast whom I assumed to be the host's mother, who was much more pleasant.

These issues would not prevent us from returning and the fact that we got an early check-in was most welcome.

Had an absolute fantastic stay at the Briers, Darren and his staff couldn't be more accommodating and helpful!
The room was spotless, very comfortable, gorgeous views of the garden and surrounding landscape as well.
Breakfast was delicious and very well laid out , with loads of choice !
Excellent all round, would have no hesitation in recommending the Briers as a place to stay!

At check in we were greeted and walked to our room. We were a little early for our reservation and we were allowed right in. Owner showed us around and was incredibly friendly. Other visitors told us some great hiking locations to check out. Continental breakfast laid out nicely. Beautiful view of Mourne Mountains.

The Briers is a beautiful property hosted by Darren, a precious man. He asked after our trip, have recommendations based on what we liked, suggested places that he and his family have enjoyed and was a delight to talk to.
The room is spacious, the bathroom is out of a magazine, the view is beautiful and the location ideal.
It feels like being in a movie set. We will definitely stay here again when we're in the area.

Nice area, room was decent size but cobwebs in the corners of the room, water stains on ceiling. We booked due to location to Tollymore forest, very close and not too far away from downtown Newcastle which was nice. Bathroom good size but water from shower went all over the floor. Really not much for breakfast options other than cereal, some pastries and fruit.

Perfect location for a break in the Mournes.

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful place. We booked a night away as we have recently got married, and my husband is recovering from a serious illness. We just needed some \"downtime\" as we also have a daughter with disabilities, and this was the perfect spot. We have actually booked the superior room for a night next month,as I have felt so refreshed today. The continental breakfast was lovely. My husband is more of a cooked breakfast fan,but I was delighted to find several gluten free options, including bread, porridge and cereal, and also dairy alternatives. I think this is the first place we have stayed that has actually provided gluten and lactose free options. The only drawback was a bit of noise from another guest's 2 large dogs through the night. I love that the Briers is pet friendly, and have recommended it to both my son and daughter who are always looking for pet friendly places to stay. The noise didn't bother me as we have dogs ourselves,but my husband is a bit noise sensitive due to illness. Not a fault of the Briers at all, just very excited dogs on holiday. We are looking forward to going back often. We had beautiful views of the stunning Mourne mountains from our room as an added bonus.

Check in was contactless. I thought I was alone in the building all night. I didn't see anyone until breakfast the next day when another guest came into the breakfast room.
The staff member I met in the morning was friendly- they directed me to breakfast. Gave me some directions to where I was working in the area that only a local would know so I could ignore my sat nav. Helped me out in deicing my car as there had been a freeze overnight.
The room itself was comfortable. The breakfast was good. I would stay again.

We had an excellent 2 night stay at The Briers. Diane was extremely helpful and friendly, she upgraded our room without asking because there was a better room available. The room was really clean and modern with tea/coffee making facilities with a couple of chocolate biscuits too. There was also a communal area for teas, coffees and biscuits that we didn’t use but was there if we wanted to. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom had toiletries available and the room had a patio door that you could leave the building from and return to so that was helpful as we didn’t have to go through the main building. The breakfast facilities were excellent. You can select from a hot menu with good choices and then there is a variety of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruits, cereal bars and fruit juices. We ordered tea and coffee and got a lovely big teapot of tea and a full cafetière of coffee. Would highly recommend this place if you want to spend some time in Newcastle. We will hopefully be back as soon as we can.

Lovely hotel with great hosts. Anne was very attentive and helped find us a welcoming restaurant for our first evening meal in Newcastle which was a short drive away.
Rooms were a bit tired but the hosts, who have only been there for a month, have great plans to make changes so we’d have no hesitation in going back. Very large garden and good parking space. A cooked Ulster breakfast was one of the best we’ve had with a good range of fruit, cereals and yogurt. Special attention was given to our requirements for a gluten free breakfast.
We had nice views of the Mountains of Mourne (when it wasn’t cloudy) as the location is perfect to get to the coast and inland. We were visiting a relative in Newry and could get there in 30 minutes but preferred the coastal route or across the mountains.
All in all a great base for a holiday in a very scenic area of Northern Ireland. Thank you for making our visit memorable.

First post covid proper holiday in Newcastle, Co. Down.

Fantastic location and hotel perfect for family with three year old. Acre of grounds for three year old to play, with family toys from owners too.

Darryl and Diane were very friendly. Room had a door to the outside and a view of Slieve Donard.

Next to Tollymore Park, a 5 min drive from town centre, but great location for bit of peace and space before heading out to the mountains or to the promenade. Will be back for sure.

Beautiful Briers Cottage

It was so easy to find Briers cottage. Only 5 minutes drive from the main town of newcastle. Secluded in beautiful country surroundings and an amazing close up view of the mourne moutains. Our room slept 2 adults and 2 large teenagers. You have your own large tv and on suite bathroom with shower. The grounds and seating areas are large and beautiful with fields and flowerd if you like an early morning or late evening stroll. You get a choice of breakfasts in the morning included in your stay. We had 2 ulster frys and kids had full sodas and bacon sandwhiches. There is akso fresh fruit, cereals, toast and freshly sqeezed orange juice. All the staff were so helpful and friendly. We absolutley loved our stay and will definetley be coming back. 5 star stay for us.

The double bed in our room was comfortable but my child was unable to sleep in the single bed, as it was very uncomfortable and you could feel the springs in the mattress as you lay on it. Also the lady in charge of the the accomodation appeared very suspicious of who was staying in our room. She appeared to be always watching us and queried my children about how many were actually staying in our room. She also was very insulting by saying that she saw an \"elderly couple\" enter our room in the morning . This was me and my children's music teacher who had come to give my children a lesson before their competition. She didn't apologise for insulting me . I certainly am not elderly!!! I felt very upset by these comments and I have never been insulted like that before. I also had to pay €240 for my room at reception before I even saw the room. She also asked me if I had a different daughter with me when my daughter came to stay on the second night. I just had my son staying on the first night even though I paid for 3 people. She seemed to be thinking that I had a few girls staying. I have 1 daughter and had nobody extra staying in my room at any time and I don't know why the hostess was acting so suspicious. I would not recommend this accomodation to anyone else.

The Briers was not the break we expected. Having recieved great reviews online we were really looking forward to our stay. However, the property was down at heel to say the least. Our room was a mismash of outdated furniture and not the cleanest. The owner had an odd manner which did not make us feel very welcome. One hundred pounds a night was very steep for what we got. We won't be back.

We had a lovely stay at The Briers. Landlady met us on arrival, which was later than we had scheduled. Friendly and welcoming. Asked us our breakfast order and what time we wanted it served. Showed us to our room which was lovely and spotlessly clean. We had a lovely nights sleep and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Would book again if we were in the area.
