We have stayed here with our dog on several occasions and will continue to do so.
We came with friends ( on our recommendation and they also loved it )
A lovely property with rooms to match and great staff throughout.
We felt the breakfast doesn’t meet the standards set by the rest of the hotel.
Milky scrambled eggs and over cooked poached eggs along with insipid bacon make the breakfast a less than enjoyable experience.
I requested a smoothie and was met with blank stares and my request for Tobasco sauce drew a similar response.
Otherwise a great stay but brekkie still in the last century.

I’ve reached out to the hotel and had one response in regards to the list of complaints we had about our stay. In summary we had a buzzing noise outside our room the entire time and when I went to the desk I was told it would go off as we were above the kitchen.. we were not above the kitchen and it didn’t go off!

There were a lot of things about the stay that wasn’t very nice and to not receive a proper response was just adding insult to injury.

Not a 5 star hotel in my eyes I am really sorry but you need to treat your customers (especially repeat customers) better

We stayed last Nov & didn’t have a great stay, mainly issues with the spa, cleanliness & spa staff. However stayed a couple of weeks ago & was great. Different girls on Spa desk who were lively. Used the gym - 1st class & had the place to myself. Pool pretty good, still needs a bit more frequent tidying up & attention to detail around the edges. Breakfast amazing, staff up there have always been 1st class. Beautiful setting as always ⭐️

The location is fantastic and views unrivalled. The lobby and main dining room were very grand and luxurious. I didn’t feel the rooms were as in keeping. All the the staff in the spa and at breakfast were friendly and courteous, as were those on reception. The downstairs spa has a lovely view but the facilities could do with a refresh/deep clean. In comparison the upstairs spa for treatments was a lot nicer and cleaner. We had a few minor issues- the pull out sofa bed was made up in our room for no reason as we hadn’t requested it and there were only 2 of us staying- it wasn’t a major issue but a bit odd/detracted from the look of the room and the experience. There were also no robes in our room when we checked in- we rang and 2 were brought straight away, but one was very tatty and threadbare. Also in the bar we encountered an issue trying to charge items to our room (we had set up pre authorisation at check in but the bar staff seemed to find this an inconvenience). Breakfast had a fantastic choice.

Hotel is in a great location and has good facilities but it looking a little tired in places notably around the pool and spa area. Breakfast was good but some of the cooked items could have been better.

I booked a double double room for our family night away. Checked in and was given room 111 which was an unpleasant dark and cramped accessible room, windows were covered in frosted glass so you could not see out as it overlooked a utility courtyard. Not at all what I would have expected from a luxury hotel. We did return to reception to discuss room options and were eventually moved to a more suitable room but this seemed to luck that there were any rooms suitable for 4 of us left.

Would think of going back again but would be seriously concerned we could end up in a sub standard room.

Spa facilities were decent, though the steam room and swimsuit dryer were out of order. We were upgraded to a suite, as I was on crutches, & needed a separate shower, which was excellent. Room was clean, with a lovely log electric fire in the sitting area, which was great for watching tv in the evening. Found the staff very helpful. My o my gripe, was the buffet breakfast, I think the calibre of this hotel should serve breakfast. The hot breakfast wasn’t replenished enough, eggs were hard, fried bread cold, instead of everyone getting a hot breakfast to their table. A big let down for a five star hotel!

Firstly the room wasn't ready on time, ok the hotel gave us a drink voucher, had a lovely drink while waiting.
Room ready by 3.30, but kids had to be out of the pool by 5.30. there was then no slippers and gowns in the room. Tried ringing reception but the phone didn't have a lead, had to move a cabinet to plug it in. Phone then wouldn't work as call was blocked by administrator??
Had to walk to reception and request robes. By 4.45, still no robes and slippers, back to reception half dressed for swimming, complained to reception again. Was then greeted by the director of operations who had no interest in listening to anything I had to say. Apologised on repeat and asked do I need another robe. Waste of time.
Definitely not 5 star experience

We had a slightly strange experience at Slieve Donard. The hotel is lovely. The room had a great view of the sea and the bed was really comfortable. The gym and spa area are great. Its location is also amazing. However on our first night we were disturbed in our room after 10.30 pm to settle a restaurant bill because we hadn't left card details at the front desk. When I mentioned this to the staff the next day they said they would speak to the manager and get back to us about it, but never did. I was also quite shocked on our last morning to be turned away from the gym and pool because it was only open to members, and not hotel guests, at that time.

Excellent hotel. Great room, very comfortable. Superb Spa. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great stay.

One minor thing that could be changed is the TV. There is no option to input an hdmi. (This is disabled). I know this may seem silly, but sometimes you just want to relax and chill with something on TV you want to watch. Having 'source' input enabled would allow you to watch your own device/program. The 'cast' function wasn't working either.
I know you don't go away to watch TV, but when you have kids and don't get to watch much other than their shows, it's nice to have the option to just relax.
If the streaming apps were even on the TV, you could login yourself. That would be an option.

Like I said, minor point. Love this hotel. Can't wait to go back!

Great stay in Newcastle. Staff was very friendly and it’s a fantastic location. We were in N.I. mostly for golf, which Newcastle offers a great location if you have a rental. All of the courses we played were within a 90 minute drive.

For the price there could have been more to offer from the hotel. Breakfast was mediocre.

The room was awesome, however, I thought I “upgraded” from a King Sea View to a Suite with a Sea view. Ended up paying more for no sea view.

Putting green is just thin turf.

The spa and its facilities were great! But, you only have access to the spa facilities the day of your “treatment.”

The bar on site is very nice with a solid selection of cocktails and beer.

Another downside is the lack of food after 10 pm. It’s either a pizza or cold sandwiches for the 24 hour room service.

Overall, felt like an awesome place, just lacking in some areas where you don’t feel like you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Room was dangerously hot for my dog with no way of cooling it down. The windows barely opened and the fan supplied just blew the warm air around. The room was small for a deluxe and there was nothing luxurious about it. No caffeinated coffee provided, only decaf. Cleanliness was also an issue with the bathroom having several hairs on the toilet and bath and the bedroom fixtures were very dusty. No separate shower only shower over bath tub which was not what I expected in the deluxe room.

Disappointing and unacceptable for a hotel supposedly of such high caliber. Despite the fact that we booked a junior suite with sea view the room’s windows were filthy upon arrival. We got conflicting stories about the cleaning schedule: first every 2-3 days, then every 15 days, finally every three months. The manager mentioned that it costs them two-grand each time to clean which is really not our concern. They also neglected to take a credit card for incidentals at check-in, leading to an awkward situation when I tried to charge brunch to the room. Nothing would've been done about the windows if we hadn't followed up several times, including a long call to Expedia. Two members of reception were quite argumentative, almost acting like it was a favor for them to let us stay at the hotel, rather than valuing us as customers. Most of the staff, including Michael at reception, were very friendly, and Hannah and the spa staff were excellent. We ended up leaving with a bad taste in our mouths.

I don't know how they get to know everyones names as so many people go through the door every day. Everyone was exceptional. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Food was out of this world. We weren't bothered too much yet, restaurant seemed to know just by a look, that we were going to ask for something or needed something. Perfect location and setting but overpriced

I would love to give this hotel a 5star review but unfortunately it was lacking in quite a few ways. The location and setting is superb. Newcastle is a fantastic town with amazing scenery overlooking our gorgeous mournes. Check in was perfect reception was so friendly and informative. Our room looked the part but the bathroom was a bit underwhelming and could do with a refurbish. However is was clean and good shower.
The spa area was also underwhelming.. sorry. We waited until family time was over but the swim noodles where still lying about as was bits of food, plastic cups and a used plaster on the floor beside pool.
I think they should consider a more eco alternative to the plastic cups at water fountain.

The sauna and steam room was lovely with an amazing sea view but you have to look past all the parked cars.
I don’t think the £315 price for room was justifiable unfortunately
Breakfast was really good. Loads of Choices and great quality food. Waiting staff were really attentive and courteous. Breakfast room was stunning!

Well below par.

I booked slieve donard as I wanted to treat my wife to a comfortable weekend as it was our anniversary, and I’ve heard many good things about this property. Unfortunately for us it wasn’t anything like that. The girl at reception was rude as I checked in, I put it down to having a bad day, but she was the same every day. (Our booking was 2 nights) when we went to our room it was nothing like what was on the hotels.com
Website. There were broken tiles on the floor, stains on the walls, musty smell. Etc..
So I tried to call reception, but the phone didn’t work. So I went down to reception, and waited quite a while before the receptionist came out from the adjoining room, I told him ( a different receptionist) I wasn’t happy, and was given another room. I could go on and on, but frankly I shouldn’t be doing this . As i rarely complain.
I rate it 3 stars,
Not worth it.

We had a really lovely one night stay here to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. I had emailed the hotel before arrival to let them know of the occasion, and they kindly gave us a room upgrade and left a note and cupcakes in the room. Acknowledgements like this really make a hotel stand out and we were very happy.

It was the first time we had stayed since the refurbishment, and all areas of the hotel are beautiful. The room itself was stunning, with views of both of the sea and the Mournes. We are local enough so the sight isn’t uncommon to us, but looking out at it from the hotel room was just spectacular!

All the staff are very kind, courteous, friendly and hardworking. We dined in the town but had a couple of cocktails each in the Wolf bar which were very high quality. We appreciate a good cocktail!

The breakfast buffet was lovely.

Thank you for making this a memorable occasion :-)
