We got what we needed from the hotel. The location was great and it had attached parking. Pay attention to their details on how to get to the parking. Google and/or Apple will NOT get you there. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable. The rooms are in need of a remodel though. Carpet is never good and this carpet was badly in need of replacement. The bathtub/shower is an accident waiting to happen. Overall, it worked for us.

I booked/arrived late at night due to a cancelled flight. The staff were very welcoming and considerate. A member of staff, (tall, red hair, beard) was very obliging with arranging food and catering for my allergy.

The room was small and quite tired. No air conditioning or space to put away clothes. It had been renovated in a quirky way which didnt always work well. Quite expensive but an easy walk to the town centre and harbour area.

Great location a little away from the port but a very pleasant short walk (5mins) away. Very friendly welcome and good accommodation. We didn't have breakfast but it looked a decent continental offering - albeit with loads of great croissants etc on offer on the doorstep, there's no need to stay at the hotel for breakfast. I have used this hotel a number of times in the past and i will do so again in the future.

Hotel itself was fascinating: a town-centre, music-themed gem. The venerable age of the buildings contrasted pleasantly with the modern decoration. Beware of potentially occasional noise from the street, given the location! The staff were most helpful throughout.

Good location and usually parking on site. Peaceful, quiet and comfortable for our fifth short stay here. Staff are very good, friendly and helpful. Make sure to use their emailed advice to navigate to the hotel, we needed it because our sat nav is not up to date.

Nice place in an excellent location. We have stayed here before and it seems the prices have gone up and the rooms
have got smaller. Room was small but adequate. Toilet had a timed light that went off after 10 seconds! We spoke to the owner who said he knew it was annoying but didn’t do anything to change it… breakfast was poor, as was the housekeeping. Front of house stafff were excellent! Lots of art and lovely courtyard! Probably a bit expensive but this is La Rochelle. Will have to up its game to tempt us back a third time.

Good hotel, great location, fabulous staff.

Hotel in a great location, walk to centre in minutes. Staff so friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet style nice and good choices.
No lifts to upstairs, not a problem for us but just a reminder. They do have ground floor rooms. Top tip is prebook parking as limited spaces. Then follow the instructions for getting there. The one way system is a nightmare and ypu havecto go through no entey sign (except access). 2 nights not enough. Will be back...

A lovely small hotel ideally placed on a quiet street in the heart of La Rochelle old quarter. I stayed here for one night as part of a 2 week cycling tour. It was disappointing that there was no where covered to secure my bicycle and the only bicycle parking offered was at the front of the hotel in an accessible area from the street. I had to pay €20 to put my bicycle in the car park at the side of the hotel that at least had a locked gate. However, it was on the verge and I did not use a parking space yet still had to pay the same as a car. This was the only hotel I used in 2 weeks that charged me for my bicycle and could not offer a covered space. Fortunately it did not rain.

Wonderful stay

We loved this hotel, authentic with a rock/pop twist. We stayed in the Beatles room, which is up the spiral staircase and for 4 people. The main room has a huge king size bed with separate doors through to the 2 single beds. All staff we met were lovely and friendly. Lovely courtyard area for relaxing/ eating. Walking distance to all the sites and shops. We would definitely return.

Hotel François 1er was a perfect place for our quick trip to La Rochelle. Conveniently located in the city center, near the Old Port, museums and plenty of dining and shopping options. We really enjoyed walking the neighborhoods of La Rochelle. The staff was very friendly and tolerant of my beginner French skills. The only problem we had was trying to access the property after we'd picked up our rental car. With construction and one-way streets, my husband was not able to navigate me to the hotel to park and pick up our luggage. We will return and stay longer next time.

The room smelled very damp and musty and the bathroom was dirty especially the toilet. There were tea and coffee making facilities but no milk although when I asked at reception I was provided with some. We were too late for dinner which wasnt available at the hotel anyway but they could not even provide us with a vended snack. We went to bed very hungry and very dissatisfied. Breakfast next day was basic but acceptable

It's excellently located yet quiet at night. We were in a family room so it was great to have the beds upstairs. The only thing we would have liked to have was air conditioning - I image it will get very hot in the family room during the hotter Summer months. They provide you with Dyson fans which are OK but still make a reasonable amount of noise.

Nice hotel , very Arty, lifht hearted and entertaining Art works.Bed was comfy, nice linen.
The bathroom was difficult. The shower was inside a minute bath and was about a metre high to climb into. There was no holder for the shower head so you had to wash one handed and I needed to hold onto the rail as well because I have mobility problems.
Generally the staff were lovely, parking was 15E a night which I thought was very expensive, although La Rochelle in general was overpriced. Good location in town centre.

Too noisy to sleep

Noisy and cold room. Basically, the traveller's nightmare: you pay for the privilege of feeling cold and sleeping bad. Sets of stairs with no lift (in case you suffer from a bad back, you just have to endure), young decor more appropriate for a youth hostel (it kind of feels like one) than a hotel. You will hear your neighbors. So not cool!

The property was located \"off the beaten path\" which was lovely for getting a feel for La Rochelle. We loved the hotel architecture and music and culture-centred décor. Rooms were clean and stylish, and the hotel lobby and hallways offered many visual delights. We were only a 10 minute walk to the waterfront but shops and cafes and restaurants were only a few steps away. This was a wonderful place to stay that was not an ordinary hotel chain.

Central and arty in La Rochelle

A short notice booking to a hotel we had been to about 15 years ago. It has benefited greatly from a renovation of the public areas with a focus on modern street art aka graffiti and pop photography. The onsite bar was great for one last coffee or drink before bed and breakfast was good and plentiful. Our room was small but well appointed. The ensuite with shower was a bit too small but ok for average size people for 1 night. We could hear a lot of plumbing noise too but not enough to keep us awake. Given the rest of the hotel I would like to think our room was not typical but the result of a last minute booking. Overall I would be happy to give it another whirl as everything else is good

Nice hotel, a little cluttered but full of funky things. Comfortable rooms and beds but missing little things like free water bottles in the room. Service was good and the location was very central. However, there were broken/lifting tiles in the shower which were it ideal. Nothing especially bad but not what you would expect for the cost.

Bedroom however is very small.
There was a musty smell from the tiny wardrobe.
The shower cubicle is the smallest I have ever used not suitable.
Functional rooms but nothing more.
Adequate for a couple of nights only.

Perfect town centre position

This hotel is perfect for La Rochelle stays. You can walk to harbour, town and most facilities. The beds are comfy, showers are good, room decoration is fine too, with lots of period details. It's perfect for a town centre exploration, restaurants, cinema and the fabulous shopping in the town. The staff team are welcoming, helpful and friendly.

I chose this hotel as I was flying out of La Rochelle the next day and I wanted to see the port and old town. It's a wonderful place to see! The hotel was easy to find near the Hotel de Ville (town hall). It has great peroid decor. My room was basic and the shower arrangement in the small bathroom was not ideal, but it was clean and worked for one night. The buffet breakfast was OK but not great. What was great was the friendly helpful staff who all had good English and were very helpful advising on where to locate the airport bus, good places to eat etc. They told me where to find a grocery store close by after the tourist office had told me there was not one.

We liked this hotel.It is in a lovely old building,but the rooms are modern,with good bathrooms.
The staff are friendly and helpful.The hotel is located in the old town, very close to the port and excellent restaurants.We were glad we didn't have a car, as the streets are very narrow.

Very helpful and pleasant staff, but the room was ridiculously small. The 'wardrobe was virtually non-existant and no shelves or chest of drawers available. Fortunately only there for two nights, but neither I or my partner could unpack our small suitcases, which meant going out in creased clothes for two days. The breakfast choice was very good and ample.

We booked this hotel as we wanted somewhere central that was reasonably priced, just for a 1-night stay before our flight home. The hotel is in a great location near some lovely restaurants and shops. The room was basic as you would expect for the price but was clean and I was pleasantly surprised with the bathroom. We speak a little French but were concerned about booking a taxi for the early morning trip to the airport. The staff were brilliant though and they not only booked us a taxi, but opened breakfast early for us so we could eat before we departed.

If you have a large room it is great.

We had 3 rooms and each had its plus and minus. Grd floor room was a twin room but had a double and a single so was large with french double glazed door to private small car park. but.nice and quiet...bathroom had no storage except glass shelf which is the only shame The other 2 on 1st/2nd floor had better bathrooms but smaller bedrooms.Storage and mirrors were also an issue in these rooms.The location is great and out of the way and so close to the bus station we paid 1euro 30 from airport..If you can ask for room 10 if you want space the it is a done deal !!!
For the money paid it was good value .

Fantastic location and very helpful staff

The stay was comfortable. The location is perfect just next to cathedral, 5 mins from the main market and not more then 10mins from fort. The room is simple , but I didn't need anything apart from basics. I will definitely choose it again when I'll be back.

La chambre « premier prix » est très petite. Le lit est un 140x190. La surface de la chambre est petite. La salle d’eau est très petite avec une douche de 60x60. Les WC sont à 50 cm de la douche et le sèche serviette est positionné à 20 cm de la cuvette des toilettes et descend encore plus bas, jusqu’a la brosse de nettoyage des toilettes. Vraiment pas terrible côté hygiène. Pour le reste le personnel est très agréable, accueillant, et attentionné. Merci.
