Great hotel. & dog friendly. Good location in old town lots of bars and restaurants. Overnight stop over travelling through to southern Spain. Had a really top class meal in on-site restaurant. Will definitely use this hotel as our regular stop off. Underground car park had a height restriction of 1.85 bit tight turns with 4x4 but manageable

Room very comfortable great breakfast the restauration other than the breakfast was not very good we ask if they have ice cream for our kids they didn’t have anything we ask if their kitchen have some yogurts they didn’t have anything except a creme brûlée the only desert they have it was 9.45 at night when we arrived and my kid wanted something basic . So this is something simple to have on a Mercure big hotel chains

Stayed in a suite that was very comfortable. Nice to have the extra space. Restaurant was nice and food of good quality, perhaps an extra waiter would have made it quicker.
Good location near the centre of the town.
We had a bonkers car with no roof, doors etc so secure parking was very important and this hotel has private underground.

Love where the property is situated. We were only in Angouleme for 1 evening but could easily access many restaurants in quaint cobbled streets with live music and a lovely atmosphere.

Later the live music at the hotel was very enjoyable and we were able to visit the market across from the hotel early the next morning.

We didnt like the pillows, finding them very hard, but overall a really pleasant place to stay in the heart of the atmospheric old town.

A comfortable and convenient hotel with pleasant staff and good facilities including secure parking. The bistro style dining was excellent and we took the smaller breakfast option which was great too. The central location is perfect, right in the heart of the old hilltop town with many historic buildings and great views.

Hotel Mercure is located in the hearing of Angouleme and right across the street from the Halles - a unique venue much akin to a farmer market with patisseries, bars, and wonderful food. The staff was wonderful and shout out to our bartender. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. The rooms are good sized, very clean, and fresh.

Their classic/standard rooms are overpriced

The first impression when entering the hotel is great. All common areas are what you expect from a 4 star hotel. But when we got to our room it felt like we had entered a different hotel. It was like an Ibis Budget. There was not even an armchair, just a plastic thing next to the small desk. Despite plenty of space in the room. The advertised ‘city view’ was in fact a view of the backyard with the ducts and AC units of the restaurant. All of this despite paying €20 more that their own advertised rate. All in all a disappointing experience. A shame because much of the place as well as the location are excellent

The two courtyards were perfect for gathering with our friends and the town square area was beautiful and quaint. My grandparents had their wedding reception in one of the courtyards in 1919. First time I have actually stood there! The staff was helpful and friendly.

Beautiful building in an excellent area.

Decor in the communal areas is tasteful and modern but in keeping with the property.

Bedroom decor is very dated but beds were comfortable.

Breakfast was really good.

Staff was friendly apart from guy at breakfast.

Good Mercure hotel, nicely created in an 'older' building, Car parking underneath not the easiest (to go to the exit you have to go through to level two and turn is very tight for bigger cars). Also limited lifts in the building (if you are on the higher up floors this is in the morning with housekeeping and guests using the lifts a bit more time consuming. Breakfast good (and nice outside seating area), location great, close to shopping and bars/restaurants but far enough to not get disturbed by the noises.

Comfortable dog friendly hotel

We stayed at this hotel on our way to the ferry with our two dogs. It’s in a lovely central situation near to bars and restaurants. Parking is no problem, the hotel has an underground car park and there are public ones nearby. We arrived on a Sunday and parked for free directly opposite the hotel.
Externally the hotel is a lovely old building but inside the rooms are modern and comfortable. To the rear there is a lovely garden with panoramic views and an outside terrace to enjoy a drink.
Would stay here again if passing.

A bit shocked that the drinking glasses provided were plastic and the coffee cups were disposable. Other than that, a very clean hotel with secure parking and nice grounds. It’s central location across from the fresh food markets was a bonus.

Lobby area was very pleasant and breakfast was good. Staffing at desk was minimal but the man was helpful after he got off the phone. My main complaint was that the rooms themselves seemed cheaply constructed and decorated - for example, my daughter & I could have a conversation at normal volume level even though she was in the next room because there was a crack in the corner. Parking garage is available, but best to have a very small car because the corkscrew exit ramp is very narrow. Garden view from room was pretty.

Incredible location walking distance to so many monuments, sites, restaurant, shopping and the awesome Marche des Halles across the street. If renting a car, they have an underground garage with direct access to guest room floors via lift or stairs. Rooms nicely appointed and friendly staff.

Good location in the centre of an interesting town. The hotel is modern looking and the staff are helpful. Good breakfast, but it is France we are speaking about. The problem is the walls between rooms is paper thin. I could hear everything my neighbour was saying on his various phone calls. Also don't take a big car into their parking garage. The exit ramp is scary small.

I really like the place. Great room. Very convenient to everything. Great deal on car parking. Good wifi. Decent breakfast but on the expensive side. My biggest issue was with the service. No one at the desk most of the time. No one helping people in the breakfast area. Just took a long time to find people when you needed them. Even still, I'll probably stay there again.

From the outside it does not impress, but our superior room was huge, discreetly decorated and lighted, with all the amenities expected.
Very good bed and bathroom.
Easy parking. People who complained about the tight space in the parking should do some training in the London NCP car parks.
The breakfast was mediocre and expensive for what was offered.

Good location within easy walking distance to many restaurants and there was easy parking in the garage of the hotel. The hotel layout is a bit odd and the rooms are somewhat dated. Our room was in an older wing where the whole room slanted to one side, including the bed which made it uncomfortable. The towels were tired and worn and the breakfast buffet had been raided due to some EuroCup traffic at the hotel - the staff did seem a bit overwhelmed but helpful. Overall it was standard Mercure fare, not really four star in my book.

This is hotel is in a very fine building at the centre of a historic city. Our room was clean, comfortable, quiet and well equipped although the view into the inner well of the buildings was perhaps not the best that the hotel could offer. An underground car park was a bonus in a city where parking and road space are at a premium. Wi-fi was good when it worked.

The quality and friendliness of the staff sets this hotel apart. The waitress who cheerfully served us a meal in an empty dining room at 10 pm. The helpful front desk staff who seemed to think of things from the customer's rather than the hotel's point of view. The chambermaid who greeted us with a cheerful smile. The reason for our visit was urgent and distressing. The attitude of the hotel staff did much to reduce the stresses of a very difficult few days.

Great location; great food.

This great hotel is situated centrally, right across from the market and on the edge of the old, medieval city. My room looked out over the city ramparts. The hotel's exterior is a splendid nineteenth century building complete with gardens at both sides; inside, it's been entirely done out and is new, modern and so minimalist I had a little difficulty figuring out where the light switches were. The food (dinner and lunch) was the best I ate in two weeks of dining out in France.

We had a very good stay with a balcony view over the garden and city. Hotel is in a great location for walking the beautiful walled perimeter of the center city. Great views, nice park walk nearby also. Dinner at the hotel on the terrace was very nice. Minimalist but comfortable rooms., very clean. The hotel seems somewhat geared for business travelers but was an excellent place for our one night stopover. Would definitely recommend. Very nice breakfast as well.

Have stayed here before but since our last stay the hotel has been given a face lift and is very modern looking inside, bright, vibrant colours with stripes, which we found very attractive and appealing. It is in a central location and has it's own secure parking area. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Very Good Central Hotel

Stayed at the Mercure hotel this month and the hotel is very central and clean. It is approx 5-10 min walk from the train station in the centre of town, although to note that the centre of Angouleme is more or less an uphill walk from the station but very well sign posted. The hotel has a great location beside the town market and bars and cafes. It is just off the side street up from the main shopping area. The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms are sufficient with tea/coffe making facilites present. The hotel has a small bar and terrace area. The staff are extremely helpful and assisted us with our route planner as we needed to get to another small town which did not have direct transport. Overall I would definitely recommend and stay at the Mercure hotel due to it's central location and cleanliness.
