The room ( junior suite ) was cold as the radiators were not working when we arrived. Reception was informed at about 4,00 pm but nothing improved until several houirs later. Two electric heaters were put in the room and the radiators eventually came on. The 'fault', we weere told, was the room thermostst which was located outside in the hallway (???) and somebody had turned it off. Shame that the management didn't check the room thoroughly prior to our arrival. Otherwise, great room, spectacular views. Restaurant service was fine but my wife's portion of breakfast smoked haddock was almost totally hidden by the lemon garnish it was so small. Shame really but it's the dissatisfaction which stays with you more so than the positives.

We stayed for one night to visit this lovely village. The staff were lovely. The property is very nice and has a great garden area to sit in this warm weather.The evening meal was first class as was the full Yorkshire breakfast.Will be staying again soon im sure.

Lovely hotel and would definitely recommend a stay there.
Beautiful room and super clean with all the amenities you could need.
Staff are super friendly and nothing is too must trouble.
We had our evening meal and breakfast in the hotel, both exceptional .
Will definitely stay here again 10/10

The room was very clean apart from dusty shelf's in wardrobe discovered that when putting clothes on shelf after taking out to use.staff excellent,food excellent. We have been staying at this hotel on and off for 24 years and will certainly be going back.parking was good and the sun was shining too.

Staff work very hard, busy but are very friendly. Bar man especially friendly and upbeat.. remembered previous guests, didn’t catch his name but had a beard.
Stayed her several times over the years and although this establishment has been taken over standards haven’t dropped. Good meals and spotlessly clean.
As said before stayed several times from suites and double rooms with friends .. however on this occasion just quick overnight and we stayed in the compact double.. adequate but small (as advertised) and wouldn’t of liked to do more then one night in there , in hindsight could of asked if I could of payed for upgrade as I believe other rooms available. Lovely night so no complaints and will be back .

Breakfast was an issue, no lactose free milk or yoghurt etc, (one person was lactose intolerant so limited choices at breakfast), bacon was hard due to being not freshly cooked, manager has been informed of these issues.

We arrived late and it was raining!

Was not paying attention and did not see the sign for the entrance of the hotel.

The reason for staying was that we booked a trip on the flying Scotsman (first trip)

Would have liked to explore the area a bit more.

Had a nice night away but a few things need sorting. They have nobody on reception. Check in I had to find the barman to get someone, for milk in the morning to make a coffee in our room it says ring or go to reception. No answer and then nobody there when I went down so had to ask a cleaner to get someone. Also on checkout. Same again. Food was nice but not great on the evening and breakfast was good for me but the wife’s was not great. Lad on bar was good and the bed was and room were good. They definitely need blackout blinds though as I woke up at 5:30 because of the light shining through. It’s basically a hotel for walkers etc due to its location.

Booked an overnight stay to celebrate my husbands birthday. No acknowledgement was nade of this fact, which was a bit disappointing.

For lunch we had the Sunday roast, which was nice but not very hot.

Our standard bedroom was small but cute. The bathroom has a small bath and a tiny shower, which my husband struggled to fit into.

The bed was very comfortable.

For supper we had sandwiches which were tasty. I asked a member of staff if they could light the fire in the room we were in, as we were cold, which they did eventually.
We had finished eating by then, so sat in front of the fire on a very uncomfortable sofa. The fire was lovely but the uncomfortable sofa won in the end and we retired to our bedroom.

The bedroom and bathroom were cold when we woke up the next day, as the heating wasn't working. Reported it to reception when we went down for breakfast.

The dining room was busy, so we sat at the last free table. Breafast was lovely, with a good choice of cooked options.

Mallyan falls is behind the hotel, so we went for a walk there and down to Goathland station, to watch a steam train arrive and depart.

Excellent stay. Really nice, large bedroom with excellent views. Generally very comfortable although mattress a little hard for my liking but that is a personal thing.

Hotel had plenty of public space with 2 bars and plenty of loung areas as well as a comfortable dining room. Food excellent and good value.

I am sure we will be back
