Had a nice stay, room was nice and roomy. Staff were enthusiastic. Didn't use the WiFi as it wasn't strong for security. Had nice views of the sea.

Ate in the restaurant in the evening. It was really good food. Had the cod loin which was really tasty and very fresh. Would recommend a visit here.

This hotel is so in need of a reliable hotel advisor ,the cleanliness is so average you cant say any better, the layout of the room is so wrong, bed set against the wrong wall which makes t.v very difficult to watch,wardrobe has two small sliding doors ,makes entry impossible ,flooring is so loose i felt sorry for guests in room below so pleased we were top floor, were the bed is situated there's no plug sockets for phone chargers or anything else you may need to use. The bathroom is so basic for to be called recently refurbished, there's no rails near the sink to have your hand towels available and the only available shelf cant be used because it is used for the rolled up towels,bathroom door has to be kept closed at all times because of the dampness smell when anyone uses the bathroom, there are so many walls in the room that would appreciate a lovely print or picture but the only used is above the bedhead, very strange choice ,the only positive thing about this room is the wonderful view of the Abbey at sunset and sunrise. On the ground floor i cant fault the layout or the services obviously since the fat badger group became involved, hopefully this in time will progress to the upper floors and rooms.

The rm we had was very large and looked out over the rear car park. The room looked like it had had a recent lick of paint to brighten it up. It had everything we needed for our stay. The bar area was lovely and very busy proving it”s a popular place to drink. We will definitely be visiting again.

room was great, kept very clean , room 410 has the best view and is very quiet but along way from reception, the electrics tripped and the staff says this happens at least once a week? Breakfast good but no cold meats/cheese etc.....wifi was good. The hotel is very clean and the staff are really good. Only thing is the smell of paint as they are renovating the hotel. We found the hotel to be very dark but this is a personal choice and some might like the decor. It is a dog friendly hotel but once again I would not want to stay in a room which dogs had stayed in as not having a pet myself this is something that deters me from going back.

Internet was fine, shops about 15 minutes walk. Very hilly, lots of steps to the shops. Lots of places dog friendly, loads of dogs around. Hotel was good dog friendly too. Food of good quality, breakfast very good hot and cold. Our room was quite a way from the entrance. Hotel not disabled suitable.Ask for a bed biggè than 4'6\". Overall would stay here again.

Excellent location, remember to book your parking space. Room decor was very tired. Soundproofing almost non existent, and with a function happening somewhere close, and late returning noisy guests, sleep was elusive. Heaters wouldn’t turn off and room was far too hot for us. Fortunately windows opened. Lots of hot water. Bed was a bit soft for us. Didn’t have breakfast but close to town where cafes are plentiful. Staff pleasant enough. Lifts very small.

Very lively in the hotel during the stay.
Buffet breakfast is very good. One comment- the plates are now very small. A side plate rather than a meal plate.

Also the bathroom doesn't have a loo brush. I asked the staff for one and they provided a brush but said it is a management decision to exclude them-- Strange.

Everything was great apart from noise transference from other rooms and the corridor outside. Considering the hotel had been renovated recently I would have thought that some soundproofing improvements would have been made. I could literally hear the people in the room next door talking normally and people talking to each other in the corridor when walking past.

It was decorated to a high standard, very clean, super comfy bed and the little extras like the dressing gowns in the wardrobe just added to the luxury feel. The room was spotless and well decorated. It was spacious with lots of storage. The bed was large comfortable and linen was changed everyday. The hotel is beautiful with a restaurant, bar, coffee bar and veranda all decorated in a victorian theme. The view across the harbour to the Abbey is breathtaking. The staff are attentive and accomodating, very polite and well presented. This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and i would highly recommend that people stay here.

One of the best breakfasts ive had in a hotel buffet style with very attentative staff.
Rooms basic but clean with a comfy bed all you need really had a great 2 nights and would book again with no hesetation .

There was a lot of decorating going on particularly along our corridor, and they are presumably going to improve all bedrooms eventually. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the hotel was. Bar area really good and very busy. Being able to pre book parking is a bonus and worth doing. Breakfast slightly disappointing as they kept running out of things and there were a few queues but what we had was good and it was very busy. Would definitely stay there again. It doesn't appear to be a Shearings hotel anymore .

We had a four poster room and it was absolutely beautiful. Very clean and comfortable. The other main thing for us as it's winter is that the room was lovely and warm. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. The Fat Badger bar and restaurant is an amazing place and the food was outstanding and plentiful.

Just getting home from a lovely weekend with my hubby the hotel was beautiful clean and very helpful staff breakfast was beautiful plenty to chose from and will return later on in the year as the weather was very snowy so found getting around on foot was horrendous like a skating rink to walk on but overall a great time away.

Great little break at The Royal, recommended by a friend who'd stayed very recently.
Lovely hotel, currently undergoing a renovation but didn’t cause any issues for us. Room Was spotless, great size overlooking the sea. Bed was super comfy and a good sized modern bathroom with shower and separate bath.
Warm rooms, great bar area and the restaurant looked decent and well priced however we didn’t eat on the premises. Staff were brilliant, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Would absolutely visit again!
