This was a lovely spot for my stay in Windermere. Very convenient to the train station and bus stop, as well as pubs and restaurants. My room was comfortable and roomy with a full bath, including tub, and a beautiful view of the fells when the weather was clear. Anita and Denis are great hosts - warm and welcoming. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed 2 days with my wife. Absolutely loved our stay at The Archway Guesthouse! Anita and Denis are incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts who go above and beyond to make us feel at home. The breakfast was a real highlight—rich, delicious, and made with care, offering a perfect start to the day. The location is also excellent, with convenient access to transportation that made getting around easy. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Fantastic location, made even better by sunny weather. Our hosts were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Even my Spanish Inquisition about the contents of the full English breakfast didn't phase them. Parking was a squeeze, but we got in and out to the annoying sounds of the park assist beeping furiously all the time. One minor niggle was the teapot was too small for the 2 cups, so one of us had the ubiquitous teabag in a cup. The room was small and the ensuite even smaller, but that's the price you pay for choosing the standard room. Nice shower, though. All in all a great weekend.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Denis and Anita’s guesthouse. They were wonderful hosts and we really appreciated the little touches such as the lovely cake and cookies on arrival. Breakfast was fantastic and our hosts were really helpful when we couldn’t find a space to park on the street on arrival, also with recommendations for places to eat locally. What can i say .....what a lovely weekend stay we had Anita and dennis was lovely ...very helpful and funny ....they bent over backwards to help us.The room was very nice with a massive bathroom and the view was amazing. Anita and Denis were great hosts and did everything to make us feel welcome and enjoy our stay. We were even given some home-made banana cake on arrival...a nice touch i thought. Good breakfast with something for everyone...even an alternative caribbean option with Denis's home-made spicy chilli sauce ( which was lovely ). A great location in Windermere and in walking distance of Bowness. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Very well situated in windermere town center, short walk to many restaurants, pubs, and local shops. We were on the top floor and had a nice view of mountains, weather permitting (this is the lake district after all).

Best of all were the hosts. They were warm and extremely helpful in planning excursions appropriate to the weather and our interests. Many choices for breakfast and always good.

A very clean, comfortable & cosy room & amenities. The hospitality was fabulous as was the breakfast menu. Little extra comforts such as fresh cookies/banana bread were provided in the room which was very much enjoyed as well. Anita & Denis were consummate hosts providing local knowledge & assistance with booking arrangements & great conversation. Note that the stairs may be tricky for those with knee problems.

a weekend relax in the lakes

the Archway was a delight to have a short break away. Denis and Anita were more than welcoming on our arrival and their excellent customer service continued throughout our stay.

The food was of a high standard and well presented with a choice of breakfast menu. Anyone staying here has to try the Caribbean breakfast on offer, it was superb and took us back to our time on holiday in Barbados.

I will be trying to make this at home but don't think it will come up to Dennis's standard.

All in all a very pleasant stay which contributed greatly to out lake district experience.

The accommodation with the well presented en suite was indeed a five star B & B

What a find, the proprietors of this guest house are lovely, Denis and Anita gave us such a warm welcome and made our stay very special. The room was spotless, the views were breathtaking and the breakfast was fantastic, Denis does a Caribbean taster with your full English, but will do a full Caribbean if requested. The location is right in the middle of Windermere and perfect for Bowness and Ambleside visits, or any part of the Lake District. I would definitely recommend you stay here as we were treat like family and will no doubt return in the future, what a gem and what a find.

My and my partner had a lovely stay at the Archway Guesthouse, i would gladly recommend it to anyone. The room was very nice and had everything we needed, even a great view of the landscape. The couple that own the guesthouse made us feel very welcome and were very helpful especially when it came to recomending places to eat and visit. The breakfast was very nice and there was even a Caribbean breakfast which i got to sample and seemed very good.

Very pleasant place to stay in the very lovely and picturesque Windermere. It's located within easy walking distance to the hub of the town which has a small variety of shops and some very nice coffee shops/bars and restaurants.
Owners Dennis and Anita are very welcoming and provide a great guest house service. During our stay they could not do enough for us and the breakfast menu is perfectly varied and all of it delicious! You must try the Caribbean breakfast they offer, a welcome chance to try something a bit different and my personal favorite.

Wonderful hosts in a great location

The best thing about this guesthouse are the hosts! Anita and Denis are great, warm, nice people who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. The rooms are well equipped and surprisingly soundproof. We had everything we may need in the room, from booklets on sights and attractions to cosmetic cotton pads etc. Breakfast tasted great and was very filling, and home-made cakes and muffins kept us very happy.
The guesthouse is just 5 min walk from the Windermere station and around 15-20 min walk from Bowness pier. Anita and Denis keep walk printouts, so if you come unprepared (as we did), just ask for advice! We would definitely recommend it to our friends; I think one cannot find a better place to stay.

A very pleasant 2 night stay. The hosts Anita and Denis were very pleasant and welcoming. Beautiful views from our bedroom window. The room was nicely furnished with good quality furniture and fittings. Wonderfully clean with lovely bedding. Breakfast was lovely with an excellent choice and cooked to our individual tastes. Location excellent for local restaurants and shops, also for exploring other areas of the Lake District.

This B&B is in the city centre, with easy access to restaurants, supermarkets and train station. Breakfast was delicious. The hosts were nice and had given us travel advice. The only thing I would criticize was the small-sized bathroom in the room.

It was just like home, Denis and Anita made our stay special, we were very well looked after. Having visited Lake District for the first time we had some good suggestions of places to visit and explore. Great Location for the South Lakes

We had a great short stay at the Archway. We had a wonderful welcome from the hosts, Anita and Denis who made you feel very much at home. The room was clean, spacious and had great views of the distant fells. The breakfast was perfect and was delivered with a Caribbean touch from Denis, who treated us to some plantain fritters. We were greeted as we walked up the steps towards the front door. Denis & Anita, the couple running the b&b, were very friendly and offered a drink and homemade cake before showing us to our room. The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was very nice with a bathtub and walk in shower. The view from the room was very nice. We filled in a slip for what we would want for breakfast in the morning and what time we would be down, which I think is a great idea and very efficient. There was a great variety of fresh fruit and cereal (including homemade muesli & granola) before the cooked breakfast came out. One morning Denis came out with some Caribbean food for us to try. You can tell they both love their job and are very intrested in what all the guests have to say. Loved our stay and would definitely recommend!

The staff were helpful, and friendly. The room had a great view, and the bathtub was excellent with a skylight. I suppose the rooms will vary quite a bit, but the proprietors were quite helpful. Breakfast was good, and they got us pointed in the correct direction.

Comfortable, quiet and hospitable home base

The Archway is a comfortable, spotless, quiet B & B with spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. Anita and a Dennis are hosts who go the extra mile for their guests all the time. We had home made cookies and chocolates in our room and Caribbean treats with our beautifully cooked breakfasts. Anita and Dennis supplied maps for local walks that guests would otherwise need to buy. They move cars to accomodate guests and look after people in many different ways. They extend hospitality, fun and friendship to their guests and it is hard to leave when the time comes. We felt like we were treated like family in their home.

Staying here was a really positive experience from the first moment we were greeted with coffee and delicious homemade cake, to the tasty hearty breakfast with Caribbean treats from Denis and the heartfelt parting wishes that we had enjoyed our stay.
Anita and Denis are fantastic hosts who show a genuine passion for what they do and deserve the plaudits that they rightly receive.

Perfect Stay!

We spent our 2 nights here in Coniston Room and it was fantastic! First of all, Anita and Denis are very friendly and thoughtful. They gave us very warm welcome, help with the luggages and gave great recommendations around this area. The house is 5 minutes' walk from rail station. The room we had was lovely and clean with huge bathroom , soft bed and nice view. Last but not the least, the breakfast is full of choice and freshly made. We enjoyed ourselves very much in Windermere and wish we could stay longer. Thank you to Anita and Denis and their place is definitely a wise choice here.

Really lovely place to stay, we received a very warm, friendly welcome from Anita and Denis. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was freshly made to order and locally sourced where possible which was really nice there was plenty of choice including vegetarian options. We really appreciated the personal touches such as Anita's baking and the fritters and plantains made by Denis. Anita and Denis also offered lots of tips on where to go locally which really helped us make the most out of our stay. We would definitely recommend The Archway to anybody wishing to visit the Lake District. When we return to this area, we will be sure to stay here again.

I loved pretty much everything about my stay

The title of my review says it all! The weather in the Lake District was unseasonably glorious during my stay, but even if it hadn't been, Denis and Anita's hospitality at the Archway Guesthouse would have made my trip worth it. I loved my room and view at the top of the house, and the breakfasts were fantastic and as filling as I wanted. When you visit—and I encourage to book as soon as you can—make sure you try some of Denis' Caribbean fritters. I think I may have found my new favorite food...
