Absolutely adore this spot! Staff were great - except for one waitress in the restaurant who decided our child shouldn’t eat tiramisu and so she told us it was sold out. Was pretty judgemental. Everyone else was fantastic and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

This was our 2nd visit to them. The room we booked was not given to us. They said we only booked for 4 ppl when we booked for 5 and then charged us an additional $160 at check out. They blamed Expedia for not paying them properly. In addition, the room that we stayed in had NO internet because it was not attached to the main building. That caused an issue for those in my party that needed to work a few hours each day. They added bar charges to the check out and we paid cash. They took the charges off but had I not caught it, we would have paid twice. Won't be back.

Loved the view of Mt Etna especially during eruptions! Staff very helpful, breakfast was fine - but go down early if you want the full choice, pool was great. Limited options at pool bar, but plenty of sunbeds (never a towel scramble as you get in some places!) Decent size room and good shower.

Very good hotel, good base to explore east coast

Very friendly hotel dating back to 1801. Great breakfast and adjacent restaurant. Good pool. Comfortable. Difficult to find with google maps. Not a lot in Giarre but with a car only 30 mins from Naxos-Taormina. Also offered guided tour of Mt Etna. Would definitely return here!

Beautiful setting, but not so tranquil in season

Beautiful setting and the hotel courtyard and buildings are full of character but if you're expecting to relax by the pool don't go in European school holidays, most days it was overrun with undisciplined children and ignorant parents.
A good base to tour from, and you DEFINITELY need a car as there are only a couple of restaurants and bars close by otherwise you will have to eat in the adjacent restaurant every night where there is a fixed menu, but the food and service is excellent. (Pool side snacks at the hotel are only available from midday.)
We paid for an upgraded room which only means that it has views of Mt Etna. The room itself was clean and simply decorated, but dark and gloomy as the only natural light came from a window at the end of a narrow corridor which housed the room's wardrobe. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful which was just as well as the safe had been removed from our room and we had to keep our money and valuables at reception, which was, we felt as much an inconvenience to them as it was to us!
There are guide books that you can borrow and return in reception about the island and access to a laptop computer. There are various Wi Fi codes for the property and the signal tends to drop out as you move around the hotel grounds. A word of warning about driving in Sicily, they are absolutely crazy. The driving is very aggressive! You need strong nerves on the main roads or built up areas, but once you get out to Etna and the villages it's ok

Nice quiet hotel

The hotel is in Giarre in Catania. The facilities are good and value for money. The reception staff were efficient and very helpful, although we found one particular receptionist rather abrasive and impatient with customers.
The restaurant provides good authentic Italian cuisine; however, the menu is fixed and there is very little variation.
A car is essential to get around since the hotel itself is quite isolated. That said, the facilities were good and we had a lovely, quiet family holiday. We were without hot water for a few hours on day 3 of our stay but this was quickly rectified.

Relaxing and wonderful setting

The room was a bit plain but very clean and easy to access. We really loved the buffet breakfast and the setting for our morning meal was wonderful. The restaurant on the property had very good food and the décor was really nice. We enjoyed the swimming pool and the surrounding setting. The only negative for us was initially trying to locate the hotel when our GPS wasn't working.

The views are fantastic and the rooms comfortable and spacious. Breakfast is varied and relaxed. The pool is lovely and there are plenty of sunbeds. The restaurant serves lovely food in the evening although the menu is limited so you would need to go out if staying for a while.The whole hotel is an attractive oasis.
However, when you leave the hotel Giarre itself has little to offer. It is a 30 minute walk to the beach along dirty rubbish strewn roads that don't always have pavements. In the evenings it is a 40 minute walk to the centre where there are some restaurants but it is easy to get a taxi back.
I would recommend the hotel as a place for some relaxation and as a base to visit Etna and Taormina which are both relatively close by.

Nice hotel close to Etna.

A very good value for money hotel which punches way above its weight. It offers a very good buffet breakfast and most importantly sterling clean rooms. As an added bonus it has unobstructed marvelous views of Etna mountain and also a nice pool area. This hotel is also close to Taormina, Giardini Naxos and the east cost of Sicily is all within reach.

Charming hotel with friendly staff

The hotel is a converted winery and dates from the 18th century so all rooms are different.
The facilities are good and the gardens are lovely.There is a large and well maintained swimming pool and the wifi is excellent.
The only negative is that it is in a rather remote and rundown part of Giarre but if you have a car that will not affect you in anyway.
On the whole I would heartily recommend this hotel; the staff could not be more helpful without exception.

What a wonderful place to stay. This was our first night in Sicily, and what a treat. Hidden away off the busy streets, a respite that we would have loved to stay for more than one night. We had dinner outside at the hotel. Nice breakfast. Next time, we will take the time to enjoy the pool!

Absolutely marvelous!

We love small, cozy places that are full of character and this hotel is exactly that!
The hotel is located in what seems an old Sicilian villa but the rooms are completely renovated, modern and spotless clean. The check-in was very fast (despite the fact that we arrived at 2 in the morning), the staff very pleasant and welcoming. We chose a room with a view toward the Etna - what an incredible view! The property and property grounds are extremely well maintained - there are flowers and trees in bloom, everything is very green and luxuriant. Great pool. Great continental breakfast and dinning restaurant (highly recommended!). Daily room cleaning; the bedding was changed at least 2-3 times during our 5-night stay. Parking available. Overall, a marvelous place to stay!

Lovely hotel with lots of character.

The staff were unfailingly helpful and charming. As there were very few English channels on the TV they bought us a DVD player to play our own DVDs. The room was large with a very comfortable bed and an adjoining bathroom. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and thankfully available until 11am on New Year's Day. We hired a car which is essential as there is little to do or see in the immediate surrounds but it is a perfect base for the Etna area. We did not expect snow - but neither did the Italians!

Breakfasts, big selection, very good.
Staff very helpful (had to move room, adjacent road very noisy). Organised a landrover trip up Etna via the hotel - spectacular.

Stayed here for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly the weather wasn't good enough to use the pool. The position of this hotel is fab, so close to a main road but you wouldn't know. Great view of Etna. Wasn't keen on Giarre but apparently we missed out a lot..!! Staff make this place a little gem. Restaurant so inviting, with glorious food. Louisa the receptionist is a great welcome.

Fabulous hotel to stay in if you have a car

Loved everything about it. Just be aware that it is located in a town called Giarre - which is very unexciting - so to get to anywhere you'll need your own transport. However - they do book lots of excursions from there if you prefer...
We were very lucky to be there while Etna was errupting, which was extraordinary (and entirely safe!)

Stayed here for 3 nights. Very disinterested service from all staff. Faulty toilet, small room and uncomfortable bed. Brerakfast was good as was the pool and sitting area. The surroundings were dreadful and didn't feel safe stepping outside at all. Would not reccommend to others.

A good base if you have a car

Hotel etna is a good base for exploring Sicily's east coast, however you do need a car. We thought the hotel restaurant was ok but be aware it is about 50% more expensive than we experienced elsewhere. It is a different business than the hotel so you can't add meals to your room bill. There are many eating places in Giarre and Reposta but all over 1km away, which normally we would walk but the main road is very busy and pavements for the first bit are non-existent. The pool and sunbathing areas are good. There is an ok selection on the buffet and you get a proper cup of coffee. Rooms have recently been refurbished and have good facilities, safe, mini bar, air con. If you are bothered, (like us) by Mosquitos ask at reception for plug in mozzy killers and or sprays. Cleaners like to open all the doors and on our first night we were plagued.

Typical Italian buildings and gardens

We stayed 7 night at the end of May: the hotel looked just as in the pictures with Mt Etna smoking gently in the background. Arrived after 10.30 pm and enjoyed the bottle of bubbly left in our fridge to welcome us. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of foods; the pool was very clean and the gardens full of all kinds of flowers. However, our bedroom, which looked onto the road, was noisy, despite the double glazing, because of very heavy traffic from around 6am to 10 pm. The view from our balcony was ugly: a garage forecourt full of cars and some messy old buildings. It was difficult to walk anywhere due to the lack of pavements and the narrow busy roads: that was disappointing as we had chosen to be in a town for that purpose. Fortunately we had a car and were able to go and visit some beautiful sites up and down the coast.

Lovely old manor house

Stayed here for two nights to visit Etna. Lovely old manor house with good pool area and views of Etna. Organised day trip, thorough the hotel, to Etna with Etna Trouvatura and had a brilliant day. Enjoyed the pool. Not sure it is the kind of place to stay in for a week though as nowhere to wander out for a meal, apart from the lovely restaurant next door. If you book, ask for a room with a pool view- they also have a little seating area outside where you can sit in the evening, and look towards Etna.

Good Hotel as a base

The hotel is on a fairly busy road, so you need to be careful with your choice of rooms (Rm 203 / Rm 204 over looking mount Etna and the swimming pool and are away from the road and any noise. Rm 106 is on the courtyard so is also quite and large but has no windows, just a door with small windows.
The smell from the Orange / Lemon trees and flowers was wonderful
The swimming pool was well looked after and a nice area to relax
The staff were all very helpful
The breakfast was good, bread rolls, meat, cheese, tomatoes, oranges, cakes... and excellent service and coffee
There is a restaurant on site had good quality food, but the portions are small and very expensive (12 euros for a small plate of pasta / 12 Euros for two small sausages and salad, there is also a service charge of 2 euros per head. We considered this to be very poor value but found a great little Pizzeria in Riposto, (Pizzeria Bella Napoli, Corso Italia 215) about 7 minutes drive away... Not always easy to find on street parking
We drove to see Mount Etna, about a 50 minute drive to the base station where you could catch a cable car.
However we found visiting Mt Etna disappointing and a rip off. It cost 30 euros per person to take you only part the way up by cable car, to get closer to the main crater you have to pay another 30 euros and take a bus..

You couldn't find a nicer hotel

Located in a converted winery, this hotel has plenty of charm and beauty. Of all the hotels I've stayed in while traveling in Sicily, this has been the nicest. The staff are wonderful and make you feel right at home. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. We liked the hotel so much we booked a third night here.

Lovely hotel, beautiful pool

We really enjoyed our week at this hotel. The pool area is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and very clean.
The attached restaurant is excellent; we ate their four times and all meals were lovely.
There is not much immediately around the hotel, so a car is necessary, or a willingness to ride a bike or use public transport.

Lovely hotel, but location is car-dependent

Hotel Etna is a lovely oasis in the middle of 'sort of nowhere'. I chose the hotel because it wasn't in a touristy area but I didn't realise just how bad the public transport in Sicily was going to be. Nor how expensive taxis are. I felt rather frustrated and trapped half of the time because I couldn't just hop on a bus/train. If I had my time again I would definitely hire a car.

Some reviews have mentioned a bad breakfast / restaurant experience but don't listen to them - Hotel Etna breakfast has a wonderful variety of fresh food. And the adjoining restaurant is lovely and relaxed with a good menu and wine list. The swordfish with almond crust was particularly good.

I found the hotel room very comfortable and clean and wi-fi was a huge bonus - esp as I was at war with British Airways for losing my luggage, so being online, for free, was a huge relief. Finally, the pool area was well maintained and the pool itself clean despite the many children and amount of sunscreen no doubt that ends up in it.

Nice hotel at Etna foothill

A such pleasant surprise. A hidden jewel. Perfectly situated at the foothill of Etna - perfect access to any of the small villages, and short trip to Zaffarena Etna to go to the cable car to visit the Etna. Easy access to major highway to go north (Messina, Taormina) or south (Catania, Siracusa) or to go to Etnaland.
The hotel staff is very pleasant and the service impeccable. My room had its own patio and garden!! The rooms were clean, so was the pool!!! The parking is free and surrounded by avocado trees!!! The courtyard where breakfast is served is so beautiful and calm. Breakfast is more than copious and the food served delicious. Try the restaurant on the premise - the food is nothing if amazing and the waiters simply wonderful.....I, for one, am going back. I

Romantic Hotel for couples

We had a good experience at this hotel, the first of four we stayed in during a touring holiday of Sicily. When we woke up on the first day and walked out onto the terrace to a magnificent view of Etna and the lovely inviting swimming pool set in the attractive grounds it really lifted our spirits and set the holiday off to a great start. The adaptation of the traditional Sicilian building had been done well and our room was no exception being very large, with traditional fittings but at the same time extremely comfortable. Compared with a hotel we stayed later in the holiday (subject of a separate review and complaint) this was also very good value indeed. A supposed 4 star in Agringento was significantly more expensive than this one but was so awful we left two days early to stay elsewhere.... Another story.

Service, amentities, room, information and front-desk assistance all excellent......the hotel iteself is not located in a very attractive area.....and our room over-looked a busy road and a car-lot....we appreciate that all rooms cannot come \"with a view\"......but most of the rooms of this hotel had a rather unattractive aspects.....a car would be necessary;.otherwise it was over-all very good and all of the staff were obliging, cheerful and helpful.

Lovely hotel - a step back in time

We really liked this hotel, a converted old farmhouse with a variety of different types of room.
Lovely atmosphere with a sense of going back in time though the pool was modern and an excellent size for swimming not just splashing around in.
Set on the edge of a run down part of Giarre but surrounded at the back by lemon groves with wonderful views of Etna.
The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - as were the taxi drivers they booked for us.
We enjoyed the food in the restaurant and thought it good quality though the menu is a bit limited.

Good family hotel

A pleasant small hotel with extremely helpful staff and a fantastic view of Mount Etna. The rooms were clean and functional and there were lots of little extras included for free in our stay such as being able to arrange tea by the pool and using the hotel bicycles to explore the lemon groves.

Don't be put off by the location. The hotel is beautiful and very good value for money. Hotel staff are the most friendliest I've come across. Rooms are spacious with a beautiful scenery of Etna! Highly recommend this for couples. Ideally need a car due to remote location. Also the hotel has a lovely swimming pool.

Great Family Holiday

We chose the hotel on the basis of other reviews and its location and setting and were not disappointed. The view up to the summit of Etna from just outside our room was breathtaking. The hotel grounds were very peaceful and the pool was lovely. The roms wer large and airey and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The Restaurant next door was very good and although the menu a little limited, the hotel recommended 2 other restaurants nearby which were both excellent. You do need a car although a supermarket and bakers are nearby and yes as many of the other reviews said, the roads are busy and the driving and parking is of course eccentric at times. However, whilst some of Giarre and environs is a bit run down, I don't think its any worse then other parts of Itlay we've been in and generally, what is available to see and do in this part of Sicily is outstanding, inparticular the trip up Etna, although expensive, was like visiting another planet and well worth it. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful Hidden Gem

The Etna hotel is a little bit of heaven in Giarre..We had a very pleasant stay here. The pool area is large and pretty and does offer some great views of Etna, particularly from the lawn area . The town of Giarre is not a tourist town and quite run down but the hotel is an ideal base for exploring Etna and tourist resorts such as Taormina. We would definitely go to this hotel again,it gives you the feel of old Sicily

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Etna. We stayed as a family (2 adults and 2 children) and our room was massive. The staff were very helpful, it was very clean and it had wonderful views of the lemon grove and Etna at the rear. The only minor quibble we had was that the shower enclosure leaked slightly, but this was a minor thing given how much we liked the hotel. The large swimming pool area at the back was nicely done and not at all crowded. We would definately recommend the Hotel. The fact that there werent that many rooms really meant that people were looked after.

great 1st impression... spoiled within 10h though

The reason why my rating dropped is because of the thoroughly unpleasant wake up call by hotel staff every morning. We thought that knocking on the door was an international standard of politeness. We were wrong, it seems. The cleaning team repeatedly barged in without announcing themselves. On one occasion, we were still in bed, having driven most of the previous day and catching up on sleep. On another occasion, I was coming out of the shower when the door opened without warning, barely leaving me enough time to hide out of sight. The time was consistently 9.30.
The judging glare of disapproval from one of the cleaning agent as we came out was inappropriate too. We paid for a room to rest in. Jetlag, sunburnt (beware, Sicily is a scorcher!), being unwell or just chilling out: whatever your reason for staying in the room, it's your prerogative.
For those of you who have a hectic lifestyle and rely on holidays to catch up on all those missed sleeping hours as well as exploring new places, then you might want to think twice before booking a room at Hotel Etna.
Note: The soundproofing is poor and there is nothing that would be both interesting and accessible on foot around the hotel. Whatever you want to do (dine out, have a stroll, etc..., you will need a car). Hotel restaurant is surprisingly good, but the menu is limited, so you would not want to use it more than twice.

A good experience

A lovely old building, set in extensive lemon groves. The staff were helpful and friendly. An excellent buffet breakfast was included in the price of the room.There was plenty of free parking space.
The restaurant was run separately from the hotel, although it was part of the main building. It was smart and friendly, but we ran out of menu choices before the end of the week! I would have liked the option of soup and some chicken dishes.

AMAZING!

Hotel Etna is a perfect base to explore the eastern side of Sicily with the slightly northern town of Taormina's castle ruins, delicate streets and spectacular views within a 10 minute car ride, with easy parking costing just a couple of euro's. Further south from Giarre, around a 30 minute drive is the town of Siracusa which makes for a brilliant day out! For ten euro's per adult (and free parking!!), you gain entry to wander around old ampitheatre's and ruins, fountains and lush gardens with small stalls around selling tourist bits. The town of Giarre itself has small cobbled streets with a random selection of shopping, good for half a day out followed by relaxing at the hotel pool, which has spectacular views (and sounds) of Mount Etna. The hotel was perfect as well, large clean rooms with large bathrooms and a fully stocked fridge every day (the prices for drinks match those of the nearby garage). Breakfast was always very fresh with italian coffee made to order. The pool had plenty of sun loungers, and a lovely shaded area to eat lunch (Id recommend the hotels \"Piadina\" for lunch!) Dinner at the hotels restaurant was slightly on the expensive side but was well worth it due to how fresh and well cooked it all was. Did take some time for the food to arrive but if you want quality, you have to wait for it to be cooked. The staff couldnt do enough for you and Id recommend the Etna tour as the guide was brilliant! Definately stay at the Hotel Etna!!!

Lemon orchards

I've not stayed surrounded by lemon groves before, and Hotel Etna is a delight, with beautiful courtyards, water troughs with glowing goldfish, and the scent of blossom wafting as you walk around. Even the car parking space was on grass discreetly placed around the side of the main building. Our spacious room was in one of the smaller seperate buildings near the orchard.

The pool looked very inviting, but April temperatures meant there was no way we were going in, but we sat one evening on the loungers drinking some wine, and watching the light go down.

Our host was charming, and went out of his way to help us with a car hire issue, driving us to the airport so we could sort it out, which was really appreciated. Breakfast was really nice, and served with a smile (always a good way to start the day). Lovely place.

Far from town center

The Etna is further from the center of Giarre than I had expected. Driving is difficult because of the heavy traffic and very very narrow streets. The hotel itself was comfortable and good. It's an older hotel that has been carefully and completely modernized. However its restaurant cannot be recommended. I think most of the ingredients used in the preparation of meals were either frozen or canned, nothing seemed to be very special.

Very good experience

A very well- situated hotel for Etna, Tormina, Syracuse etc.
Although it's not in an isolated postion, it's grounds contain citrus groves and the surroundings give the impression of being in the countryside.
Good room and very helpful staff., who worked hard to fix the air conditioning, which wasn't working when we arrived.
A very good buffet breakfast. All in all, highly recommended.

Parfait !

Merveilleux ! Les 3 personnes que j'ai vu à l'accueil ainsi que tous les employés sont très compétents et polyglottes. Nous avons eu la chambre familiale avec un petit jardin. Propreté impeccable et la salle de bains était spacieuse. La piscine est un petit bijou détente garantie après une journée bien chargée ! Avec vue sur l'Etna 😉
Nous étions en voiture et le parking gratuit est également un atout.

Un chouette séjour

Un chouette hôtel pour sillonner les alentours, Taormina, Acireale, Etna. Nous avions une chambre spacieuse avec une grande salle de bain le tout très propre et surtout avec une petite terrasse donnant sur la très agréable piscine et face à l’Etna! L’ambiance est très tranquille! Le petit déjeuner agréable sur la terrasse et correct.

Veldig flott hotell! Nydelige omgivelser og føltes litt luksus. Veldig sjarmerende og godt vedlikehold. Vi bodde her kun en natt, men hadde ikke hatt noe imot en uke her. Barna koste seg i bassenget og bassengområdet var veldig koselig. Litt lite renhold rundt sitteplassene ved bassenget, men ellers topp på renhold ellers.

qualité et variété pdj: 5/5 (vrais œufs brouillés, salade de fruits vraiment frais). Installations, piscine, extérieur 5/5 (transats, fauteuils etc)
Restauration possible à la piscine.
Tres bon rapport qualité/prix. +- 150€ avec pdj, restauration à la piscine.

On sent que le propriétaire soigne les détails qui rendent le séjour agréable.
Préférer les chambres à l’étage donnant sur la piscine (205,206…) plutôt que celles en face de la reception.

Stanza non pulitissima, si vedeva dello sporco sul pavimento, oltretutto la stanza dava sulla strada e gli infissi non filtravano il rumore della viabilità! Il letto molto duro. Inoltre ieri la doccia fredda perché era bloccata la caldaia.

Hyggeligt hotel, ikke langt til stranden, dog lidt kedeligt byområde. Bagved dog plantage og flot udsigt til Etna.
Værelset fint, dog manglede vi muligheden for at lave kaffe/te. Ikke vild med éngangs plastik glas. Kunne dog låne i restauranten.

Sehr nettes Hotel mit Atmosphäre und freundlichem Personal. Prima Restaurant. Einzig das Badezimmer ist wirklich sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Bett so mittel. Die Erwähnung der kritischen Punkte soll aber nicht davon ablenken, dass wir einige sehr schöne Tage hier hatten. Würde nochmals hier buchen.

Hotel très agreable et paisible dans une propriété de citronniers et avec unr grande piscine et un restaurant sur place (de bonne qualité) . Certakneschambres avec terrasse ou petit jardinet tres agreable. Un peu à l ecart des villes touristiques mais bien situé pour une excursion sur l' Etna. Un personnel charmant et serviable et un petit dejeuner servi en terrasse, très varié et avec des produits fait maison (gateaux, yaourt ...).
Même si le cadre exterieur de cet hôtel n est pas ideal pour des sorties nocturnes., nous avons adoré cet endroit pour son ambiance reposante.
