The staff was amazing. They were very helpful and met every need. The food was also wonderful. We ended up liking it so much that we ate there 3 times during our stay.
Our biggest disappointment was the condition of the bed. It was very uncomfortable and swayed into the middle. Wife kept rolling into my during the nights. Updated bed would be ideal for this hotel.

My husband and I try to come up to Sutter Creek three or four times a year and we will always check Hotel Sutter for a room before looking anywhere else. We love the old building, the friendly staff, the restaurant and the bar. Strolling the main street and visiting all the local shops.

People are fantastic that work there! Clean and welcoming. We didn't eat at the restaurant this trip but we're have before. Food is very good. Bartenders make great drinks and they are attentive and friendly. Bed and pillows too soft for us and TV was located high on the wall to the side of the bed. Very awkward.

The manager was awesome! We left something very important in our room and only discovered AFTER we got home that it was missing! We drove back(hour drive) and she was able to help us get it back, even though the room was rented for the night. She went above and beyond to help us!

We liked our stay there, with only a couple of recommendations for the owners. Put some sort of dresser in the room. We were living out of our suitcase, and the room had the space for a small one. In the bathroom, please put some kind of shelf for ladies to put their makeup on. Again, there is room for it. Our trash can was in the shower, collecting water from the drippy shower.

Seeing the Cities in Gold Country

Stayed at Hotel Sutter during our driving trip through the Gold Country. Since we went during the off season, Sutter Creek was not crowded and was very nice. The hotel staff were friendly and provided suggestions on where to eat, etc. The only complaint was the bed was a little uncomfortable which affected our sleep. Even with that issue, I would stay there again.

The hotel was right across the street from the theater where I was seeing Tempest. The room was small but nice, except for the bed. It was so hard it made my back so sore that I could hardly walk. Next time, I'll ask for a softer mattress.

We had show tickets for the Sutter theater directly across the street and decided to stay the night. Very nice hotel great upgrades, but still kept the old town feel.

Super cute hotel! Absolutely loved the location, was able to walk around and explore Sutter Creek with ease, very centrally located.

There is not a ton of parking on the property, but a few blocks away there is a larger lot that allows for long term parking which we used.

If you like wine, Bella Grace was a fun and laid back tasting room that's kid and pet friendly with the grounds outside.

Shops and cafes are adorable, plenty to do, would love to go back!

This is our favorite place to stay in Amador County. The hotel is a gas, very old timey and well maintained. We made dinner reservations and the food and service and atmosphere were impeccable! Don't miss the cute underground bar below, you'll feel like you're in a speakeasy. Great cocktails. We love the location right on Main Street, plenty to do.

My wife and I only stayed 1 night during the week, Hotel was clean but they were doing maintenance in the rooms in the morning and at evening time there were a group of people on the Balcony right next to our window, they were pretty loud, the food at the restaurant was excellent we had lamb shake and the staff was awesome.

Splendid location in the middle of shopping, dining, tasting rooms, antiques shops…and a short drive to the Jackson Rancheria casino. Our stay at the hotel was about what I expected. If you set your expectations on a quaint, older property with few frills then you won’t be disappointed. I should have done a better job looking at the various rooms online prior to booking, as our room was small and not well-ventilated, the bathroom equally as small, and the bed was not particularly comfortable. The people are all great…very friendly, helpful, making sure you’re good. The property itself was clean and quiet when it counted. An enjoyable stay, but not one we’ll likely repeat.

Great location but small and uncomfortable

The room was shockingly small. Like a closet. I was there for a wedding and several friends were staying in the hotel, the rooms are different sizes and mine was the smallest but cost the same. Bed was very uncomfortable, the mattress needs to be replaced. Bathroom sink had separate hot and cold water faucets and a stopper to fill the sink to make warm water but there is a glass shelf right above it so impossible to wash your face. There is zero soundproofing. You can hear guests in their room and walking in the halls talking until 2am and it’s like you’re in the room with them. The water pipe in the closet in the room gurgled every time someone upstairs flushed the toilet or showered. The lighting is terrible, especially trying to do makeup for an event. The employees are very friendly. The hotel location is excellent. But the rooms are old and small and wildly overpriced. The lodging options are limited in the area but next time I’ll shell out more for a bed and breakfast and get a decent night’s sleep.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I thought the room would be outdated and bed uncomfortable considering how old the hotel was, but we had a wonderful stay. Bed was very comfortable and room was a good mix of old west charm and modern.

We had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant one night which was great. The Copper Room downstairs had a great live band Friday night and was a fun atmosphere with great drinks.

A fun getaway!!

My sisters and I stayed in a room that slept 4. One of the beds was a Murphy’s bed. We all had a great nights sleep. Plenty of room! We even sat on the balcony to play cards (possible because it was available). The charming hotel had all we needed. Excellent service - such personal and pleasant staff.
I have been to Sutter Creek many times and was pleased that my sisters enjoyed their first visit. Wineries, great food, shopping, and a pleasant hotel made a fun get away.

The stay was AMAZING! The only issue, and not just with the hotel, is the limited parking in this quaint little town. Since the parking for the hotel is very very limited, it would be nice to have a sticker to place on the inside of your car to show law enforcement you are an overnight guest of the Sutter Hotel. This would allow hotel guests to park once for their entire stay.

This place has great potential and the service and restaurant were great.But it really falls short when it comes to the cleanliness and comfort in the rooms. Ive stayed here before and the one upgrade that was added was appreciated, which was coffee in the rooms. Previously there was no coffee in the room or lobby. However the coffee tray in the room is teetering on a wire basket that is much too small. This may account for the MAJOR stains all over the carpet. There was plenty of room for a small side table in which you could set your cup, otherwise the only other place was to sit on the bed and use the nightstand. We thought we could sit out on the balcony to have our coffee but they keep it locked and the view out our window was dismal. Also the bed was sunken in with nothing but a thin blanket. Small improvement would make this beautiful old hotel shine and for the price they need to do better.

The rooms are somewhat small but not that bad. Nice size closet. The bed is extremely comfortable!! It's a cool place in a cool town. Didn't eat there this time but I have before and the food is really good too.
My only complaint, don't put the towel rack above the toilet...small thing but dropping a towel into the toilet isn't good.

Nice building; someone should put a hotel in it

Our room had a bed. It was too soft for my taste, but that's taste. We also had a bedstead, although it was for a different bed and was just leaning against the wall. We didn't have a table or desk, a closet, or anything with drawers in it. We had a single chair, a sad little upholstered thing with broken springs. This strange lack of furniture gave us lots of floor space, of course, although we used some of it for the coffee maker and telephone, which otherwise took up almost all the surface area on the two tiny night tables. So, that was it: one bed, two night tables, and a barely serviceable chair. My wife really needed a table for certain non-optional eye-care procedures, so we asked for one. The man who checked us in found a stool, which served that purpose reasonably well. We asked if they had furniture in storage or if we could borrow chairs or a table from another room and he said he didn't think so because the place was full. (We never saw or heard a single other guest during our stay.) He also said \"the owner\" had been called and would deal with our complaints. Later I found that the dispenser in the shower holding shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel was unwilling to give up any of the three. We didn't hear from management until I submitted a complaint on line and demanded a refund. The next day, someone from the hotel responded to that complaint, denying the refund and claiming that we had never told anyone at the hotel about the problems.

The Hotel Sutter is the perfect getaway in the perfect little town full of good food and nice people. Everyone says hi on the street when you meet them.
