My stay was generally okay, and most of the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. However, I had a very disappointing experience with one staff member who worked the night shift at the front desk.

When I arrived to check in, he told me that my reservation was for 4 nights. I explained that I had booked and paid for 8 nights through Expedia and even showed him my confirmation receipt. Despite this, he insisted that the booking was only for 4 nights and was very rude and arrogant when I tried to clarify the situation.

Later, he claimed that there was another guest with the same name as me, which did not make much sense and only added to the confusion. The whole experience left me feeling that my concerns were not being taken seriously. Given that it was during the World Cup period, I was concerned that there may have been an attempt to resell my room, although I cannot confirm this.

Apart from this particular staff member, whom I only saw on the night shift, the rest of the team were excellent and made my stay much more pleasant.

I am also disappointed that the deposit taken at the start of my stay has still not been refunded. In addition, an extra $10 was charged, and I have not received a clear explanation for this.

Overall, the hotel has some very good staff, but the poor customer service from this front desk employee and the unresolved refund issue significantly affected my experience.

Poor working air conditioning throughout hotel. Manager named Keenan ( shocking the customer service manager !) had no care or empathy whatsoever. No attempt to provide any solution, options, not even a sorry for this inconvenience ? We were given room with know non - functioning AC on 90 degree day. Rude all around and I am use to Northeast obnoxious rude people. Pasquale - staff who checked us in must have received training from Keenan. Disappointing for sure. Don’t stay here. Housekeeping was great. Mexican restaurant also outstanding but not owned by hotel. No elevator access to rooftop bar so elderly family members could not join us for drinks. Do not recommend :(

This hotel is convenient if you’re looking for a discount hotel near Lincoln Center. But it’s seen better days. It’s a little run down. It decently clean. Staff was nice. I stayed there for a work trip and it served its purpose. It’s a great location so that is the big sell here.

L'hôtel est super bien localisée, près de central Parc et dans un tres beau quartier. A notre arrivée, nous avions une chambre standard (603). Il y avait une tres forte odeur d'humidité, les tapis semblaient sales. Le robinet de la douche etait brisé donc il ny avait pas d'eau!!! On a voulu contacter la réception mais le téléphone ne fonctionnait pas! Nous avons descendu a la réception et ils nous ont dit qu'un employé de l'entretien viendrait pour réparer la douche et que si cetait impossible nous allions etre déplacé de chambre. Après 20 minutes l'employé n'était toujours pas venu. On a donc décidé de payer un upgrade pour une meilleure chambre (926). Lit king, beaucoup plus grande, vue sur la ville et tres propre..je reviendrais a cet hôtel mais plus jamais dans une chambre standard!

When we arrived to check in, the valet was nowhere in site. I had to double park, unload and hunt down the valet who was inside the hotel serving double duty as the bellman. He was very friendly, but it was frustrating that the valet was not outside. After a long drive into the city, we needed to use the restroom and were sent upstairs where of the 5 stalls, none had toilet paper, and there was just a single roll on the sink counter.
We checked in and went to our room, which could not get cooler than 75 degrees and where the shower head was falling out of the ceiling. When I asked to switch rooms, we were told the hotel was full, however they were able to move us the following day. In our second room, the shower was fine and the room was cool

Great location. Staff helpful. Rooms a bit tired. Rooftop pool a big disappointment and given we were only staying one night having the rooftop bar shut for a private function was very frustrating. Overall ok stay but for what paid have stayed in better.
Free bottled water a nice touch all be it the classic NYC ‘resort fee’ more than covers it.

This was the first time I stayed at the Empire and I must say it was really good. The staff was very responsive and keen. Our room was quiet and well appointed. I must say, the shower had the best pressure washer I ever experienced! The location of the hotel is excellent and everything we needed was just a short walk away. The pricing was reasonable. If I ever need to stay in Manhattan again I will definitely book here.

For the location and the ambiance, you can't beat this hotel. Fantastic location right next to Columbus circle across from the Lincoln Center. Amazing spot. The pool on the roof is smaller than expected but absolutely gorgeous and the views are without comparison. Our room, however, left much to be desired. It is understandable that most New York City hotel rooms are on the smaller side in my experience, but this was smaller than I expected. And on an extremely hot day, even with the air conditioning, all the way on, all it took was a singular hot shower to turn our room into something akin to a rainforest. The humidity was relentless and bad enough that for the rest of the time we were there, my wife and I ended up taking mostly cool showers. Maybe it's a ventilation problem, I don't know, but it was unpleasant to say the least. Also, the faucet handle kept coming off and you would have to reattach it, as did the toilet chain. The staff was great, location was excellent, but the rooms need an overhaul. Just a top to bottom PMCS of everything needs to be done because otherwise this would have been a fantastic stay.

Great location if you want to be near Columbus Circle/Central Park. It was a last minute booking. The room was very expensive. The air conditioning didn't work. There was nothing in the room to make tea or coffee. The room was small but the bed was comfortable. I slept well. There is not a lot of traffic north of Columbus Circle at night.

The room was clean but very cramped, the bathroom was even more cramped. The bottom of the bathroom door had rotted out (from water damage I assume). The lock to the room's door needed a new key from the front desk 3 times in 3 days (yes, I kept it away from electronics, other cards etc.). The desk chair was too tall and was wedged under the little desk so the desk moved with the chair. The staff were very nice and competent. The location is very convenient.

I had to change rooms 4 times in 5 nights because the AC was broken in each room and wouldn't drop below 78 degrees. They didnt shut the rooms down after I left them to repair them, they just put new guests into the broken room.

Stayed at the Empire Hotel last week for a week while I worked in Manhattan. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel lobby had lovely jazzy vibes. I asked for a quiet room as I needed good sleep to work and they provided the perfect room. It is perfectly located beside the Lincoln Centre and the subway is a 2 minute walk. I will stay again for sure.

Room was clean, yet small, but it's NYC. Phone and lights didn't work on arrival, but staff quickly replaced phone and fixed fuse for the lights. It would have been helpful to use the stairs more, but it was tricky with it and the floors not being well marked. The pool is very narrow and only long enough for a couple strokes. But felt good on a hot day and my kid enjoyed it. Staff was accommodating when asked. Great location

Unfortunately, I found the cleanliness of my initial room to be below expectations. There were handprints on the headboard, dust accumulated on various surfaces, and stains on the bedding. I raised these issues with your staff, but they were unable to provide an alternative room until the following day. As I was scheduled to leave the city the next morning, this posed a significant inconvenience for me.

When I returned later, I was offered a different room; however, it did not appear to be in much better condition. Given the circumstances, I was reluctant to move all of my belongings for what seemed to be a similar situation. The whole hotel is just run down.

I have documented the issues I encountered with photographs. Based on this experience, I regrettably cannot justify the price I paid for my stay.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope that improvements can be made for future guests. Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback.

I love New York but I hated this hotel. This is my worst experience in NYC. On the plus side, the location is great, the cleaning staff were great and the rooftop bar and tiny pool are nice. However, the hotel is not in a great shape, it has a very unkempt vibe and the rooms are tiny (as would be expected in NYC). What really ruined my stay, however, was an incident that happened one night. I was falling asleep when I felt something crawl on me,
I jumped out of bed and saw a giant cockroach in my bed. I got so grossed out that I did not want to get back in bed and turn off the light. I went downstairs and the man at the front desk was super unhelpful. He dismissed me, told me this is not a big deal and that we get on average 8 spiders into our mouths during sleep (a very helpful image). I did not sleep much that night. The next morning I mentioned that to the front desk and they did not care at all. I know cockroaches are not uncommon in NYC but I thought for almost $500 a night I deserve a clean room and some sympathy!

Loved this location very close to everything especially the Lincoln Centre. Our room was so tiny that l couldn’t stand behind the sink to do my hair or makeup. That was very annoying. The room was clean but again small with not much clothes space. The furniture should go into the trash. The bed was comfortable. I really liked it he lobby-very posh and the jazz music playing was great.

The room smelled like urine. It is small, dirty and incredibly run down—every facet. The windows are so old that there’s no insulation against noise. When sirens go off, they might as well be in the room with you. The location is great, but the cost vs the status of the room is not at all fairly calibrated.

I would not recommend this property. To anyone.

This is a 2-star hotel with 4-star prices. The lobby is beautiful but once you enter the rooms - what a shock! Worn down, neglected, broken televisions, air conditioning & heating from the 70’s, hot water that literally takes 8 minutes (I timed it one morning) to reach the shower (on floor ONE), and once it does - there is no way to control it so you burn your skin off. Amenities? I guess if you consider sheets & towels amenities then they do okay. No coffee service anywhere in the hotel for guests and they actually have PAPER CUPS in the rooms at the prices they charge. I stayed here because of its proximity to Lincoln Center but I learned my lesson. Never again.

the room was dated - the fixtures broken- sink was un- caulked, shower handle for water broken - the AC stopped working in middle of the night - and the biggest scheme was the pool- NO sun size of a bathtub - and so small only 10 sun chairs fit - DO NOT fall for this and pay this high price - everyone who came to the pull turned around and laughed - false advertising - horrible will not return

Beautiful location and lobby, thst where it stops.. everything in our room was broken. No coffee, no water, no snacks, when asked what we could do for water when the front desk ran out the man at the front ended got visibly angry and said “ you’ll need to fend for yourself” and walked away.

For the price tag, guest experience is shockingly poor. Doors, shower and AC were broken in our suite. We saved up an entire year for this, so disappointed.

This was not a great experience-there was huge line to check in, then at first they couldn’t find our reservation, but then did and we checked in. The staff was kind but overwhelmed. The bathroom was tiny, and the shower valve was stuck and the sink didn’t drain. We parked at the recommended parking lot (about - a 10 minute walk with bags) - we left early for a flight in the morning there was no one at reception to validate our parking ticket - so we had to pay full price. I tried to call down before checking out and no one answered the phone. It is however, a great location.

Horrible, Horrible!! I arrived at 5pm. My room was not ready. I went and had dinner. After dinner which was approximately 8pm and my room was not ready!!!! I was upgraded to a suite however when I entered the room it was a sauna. The air conditioning unit never worked consistently. For the next 2 days I needed to call 3 times per day to get air and finally on the third day I was moved to a different room.

I was not provided a refund for 1 night stay as promised by management. Not a good value for your money. The images of the lobby look great. Do not be deceived.

Overall, the property is tired with visible excessive wear that indicates its well-overdue for a refresh. A positive was the shower with a rain style shower head with great water pressure. Though, the shower floor had excessive wear: stained & worn shower floor, shelves for towels banged up badly with painted areas chipped. The beds were comfortable.

It was in a great location for my purposes, and the staff were very nice. The room was generally clean but a light blanket was stained (several stains including what looked like blood) and was not replaced. Room was teeny; hard to get around the bed without bumping into the bed or wall. Air conditioner vents were stained and wet, not enough light to even read the tv station chart or set/open up the safe; I had to use a small flashlight. The bathroom was teeny, but at least was updated; toilet was pretty low with no bars to help you get up. Wallpaper worn; room truly needed some loving care and updating. Will NOT stay there again.

This property does not merit 4 stars. Its best quality is its location. The rooms are very dated, bathrooms are also very shabby and poorly ventilated. The A/C either didn’t run or ran at the decibel level of a car engine. The windows are not soundproof and the car honking is incessant.

The reason I selected this hotel was because it is next door to the Met. I will perhaps use the hotel again for that reason, despite my experience.
I arrived at the hotel around 9, knowing that check in was at 3pm. I just wanted to check my bag and go tour the city, since I had never been to New York before.
Normally when you arrive at the front desk you are greeted and welcomed, that didn't happen.
When I asked about things to see in the area they were somewhat hesitant, I asked the dooman on my way out, and got the same response.
When I returned from the opera the evening staff were so extremely nice and helpful. They are part of why I would come back to the hotel.
The condition of the room was not what I expected, wall paper peeling, ceiling had water damage, the AC unit had rust, and the toilet kept making sounds. I have pictures if you want to see them.
Despite some of the conditions the hotel has great charm, especially the lobby.The roof top restaurant and the Mexican restaurant were wonderful.
I hope this helps to make future visits for others and myself better.

You’re paying to be a good location. You’re close to several train stations, central park, lincoln center, etc. But the hotel it self is a bit dated.

Staff are helpful but there were some inconveniences that I would want to know about if I were staying here. For example, the key cards consistently need to be reactivated (4x for us), you can’t control the temperature of your room, and there’s not water / ice stations.

The best thing about the Empire Hotel is the location. It is showing signs of age and there needs to be some updating of this property. Bathrooms were very small but housekeeping came every day. They gave free water that was needed and it was well staffed. The area has food and coffee nearby. Not a bad place to stay but will hope to see updates soon.

It was an overall great hotel experience. Clean and pretty quiet. Just be aware it is located right across from the Lincoln Center so there may be a lot of foot traffic in and out but overall it is a great place to stay.

Enjoyed the stay however the keys to the room wasn’t working very well and took many try’s to get into the room. However very clean and staff was nice and enjoyed the rooftop!

The hotel staff was great. Check in was nice and smooth, and the staff in the lobby was very friendly every time we entered the building. The rooms were cleaned daily as well as the beddings.

This hotel is a clear 8 out 10. Amazing location. Great hotel roof bar. Comfortable bed and decent TV. Big, comfy lobby. No wait at front desk. Water pressure was very strong and hot water came quickly. A/C was very good but a little noisy. The decor is cool retro. All that said, it is an old hotel and in need of updates to keep up with the younger ones. There is paint peeling and some of the common areas (eg elevators) are a little dirty. But. None of that impacted our comfort or stay. Some people complained of no coffee maker but there is a Starbucks just steps from lobby. Would stay here again for sure, but would not seek it out.
