Spent 2 nights here (1 before a trip to como and 1 after). It’s right next to the cathedral and loads of shops/restaurants/activities, so great for a base, and easy to get to from the airport.
The staff are very helpful. I’m a light sleeper and found the room at the front noisy so requested a room at the back on my 2nd stay, they very kindly obliged.
Single room was small but cosy and has everything you need!

Very close to the main attractions of Milan. Bed and pillow was good, rooms are small and quite tired. Repairs made to the sink for example were obviously a little dodgy, but it all worked fine. The biggest let down was the hot water and pressure situation. Originally, I was on the sixth floor, after a busy day went for a shower to be disappointed by essentially a watering can shower head pressure, additionally, given I was on the too floor the water for the shower took a long time to heat up, 10 minutes, the moment it got hot it switched back to being luke warm, after fiddling with the tap no hot water was coming out, so I had a cold shower at 9.30pm, after I went to reception and they changed my room to the first floor, but it was the same issue with the shower temperature and pressure (maybe a little warmer). Thankfully, it was hot in Milan so having a luke warm shower was fine. Strange that the sink tap water was very hot, as it should be, but the shower wasn’t. Breakfast was fine, croissants, some fruit, ham, cheese, yoghourt, tea and coffee made on request. Overall, an average experience mainly because of the water situation, but it was the cheapest in the area so, you get what you pay for.

The staff were excellent and the location was fabulous. The room itself was okay - comfy bed, decent sized bathroom etc, and great air con. Very affordable too. The problem was that there was no sound proofing in the room so I could hear the trams rattling past, feel the metro shaking the room and hear all the car traffic etc. it was so bad I left a couple of hours after I checked in because I absolutely could not sleep - even with ear plugs.

Jimmy was our favorite at the desk at night. He even offered hot tea. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Location was steps off the Duomo piazza with trams stopping in front, metro station close and within walking distance to most points of interest, cafes and shopping. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The room was tiny and the blankets seemed old but the bed was clean and the room was clean. The location is excellent and is 2 minutes walk from the Duomo metro stop. The breakfast was great and had lots of options and was included in the price. There is only one elevator to the rooms. There are lots of places to shop and eat within a 2-3 minute walk. The Duomo is a 2 minute walk down the street.

Ok so the hotel is fairly basic and not the most modern. BUT location is everything. You are literally a minutes walk (if that!) from the Duomo. Also great value for money for where it’s situated as other hotels I looked at in that location were hugely more expensive. Breakfast is included and was good!

Location amazing, just a few mins from the cathedral, restaurants and bars. The hotel is an older style hotel, where you still have keys which you give in when you go out. The reception is manned 24/7 so not a worry about getting your key when you return to the hotel. Room wise, some are better than others. My first room

The staff from reception to breakfast was amazing. The ladies up front always remembered who we were and our room number when we returned to the hotel and needed our key. Our only complaint is that the room was incredibly noisy. There is a metro stop in front of the hotel, and ALL night long we could hear the bus/tram coming and going. We could also hear people in the rooms on either side of us and water running in the walls. Aside from the metro stop, the location was great; close to the train station, Duomo and restaurant/shops.

Website claimed you needed to check in by 2300 so I ran across the city to make this timing. On arrival he said to me that there is no limit to check in and it was an inaccuracy with the website...so maybe change that? I arrived at the hotel in good spirits regardless and they told me they did not have a room for me even though it was booked through this site. They put me up in a sister hotel across the city down by the canal which was not ideal. The hotel was straight out of the 1980s. If booking just prepare for a bed and toilet, everything else is very dated.

The location of the hotel is brilliant. Right in the centre just a few hundred meters from Duomo plaza. Unfortunately our first floor room was right next to a tram stop with trams every 30 seconds. The noise was terrible. Could not get to sleep in the evening and first trams at 5am woke us up. Had almost no sleep. The breakfast was ok croissant, coffee and juice. If the room had been at the rear or on a top floor maybe the experience would have been better and worth 4 or 5 stars. But the room was so noisy we just could not sleep. Final moan there was no facilities for making a morning cup of coffee in our room. No facilities at all. The bed was very comfortable and the shower powerful but the room was basic.

That said, this hotel is very very old including the furnishings in the room (probably 25ish years of hotel use and abuse). The location is very central and as a result very loud. The older windows don't do a great job blocking the sound making sleep difficult.

That said the hotel can do with a makeover - it is quite dated with poor lighting in the room, a broken shower head and no toiletries were supplied. The gentleman manning the reception two days consecutively helped me with hailing a cab, making logistics one less thing for me to worry about. My overall rating would be a 4/5.

The location is fantastic-steps from the Duomo and metro. The breakfast was good but the seating area is quite cramped. Hotel staff are very nice but the rooms were uncomfortably small and the closest doors touched the bed so impossible to move. The water temperature changed constantly in the shower and the shower head kept dropping. I tripped over the step up into the bathroom when first arriving. Overall, we did not enjoy our stay.

I recently stayed at Hotel Rio in Milan, and while the location is excellent—just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo—the overall experience was disappointing due to major security issues. Guests are required to leave their physical room key at the front desk when leaving, but upon returning, staff handed me the key without verifying my name or ID. This is a serious concern, as it means anyone could potentially request your key.

Additionally, the in-room safe didn’t work, and no alternative solution was offered, which added to the lack of security.

On the positive side, the room was clean, though very dated. Breakfast was basic and not ideal for vegans, though I appreciated that soy milk was available.

Service was generally poor and unfriendly.

Overall, the hotel’s unbeatable location is its only real strength—but until the management improves security and updates the rooms, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Room and bed was clean but it’s clearly an old hotel without much being spent in terms of refurbishment. Location is really great though, right in the centre. Breakfast was ok but it really was like eating in a shoe box as you are squeezed like cattle into a tiny room. I found it funny as it was really quiet bizarre. Think of a bedroom with 6 or 7 small tables and chairs! Clearly they have very limited space so they did what the could. Staff were nice enough. The lady on reception was professional but seemed generally grumpy and definitely does not offer a warm welcome which is a shame. I wouldn’t discourage someone from staying, but there are better alternatives and I’d definitely save money on paying for breakfast and eat in one of the many cafes that are in abundance nearby.

Hotel Rio is no frills but terrific! The location is perfect, super close to Duomo and other tourist spots, restaurants, shopping, and public transportation. The staff was very kind and helpful. I wasn’t able to sit for breakfast but was offered to take food with me, even before 7:30 am. The hotel was very clean and I always felt safe. The bed and pillow were comfortable. The shower water temperature was perfectly warm.

The rooms are so small you feel like you're in a cage. I felt claustrophobic and had to change my hotel. They told me to request a refund through expedia since I booked the hotel through expedia. And when I did just that, they refused to refund my money. The expedia agent was on the phone with them for less than a minute. Not only they didn't refund my money, they also wasted my time to go through expedia. They could've said from the beginning that they're not going to refund.
Hotels are normally very small in Europe but this one was in another level. I highly recommend staying somewhere else. This hotel is not worth it. Don't fall for the prices and the pictures of the rooms.

When checking in, I got no explanation about anything. For my entire 4 day stay, the A/C did not work when the temperatures were in the mid 80s. They were able to do nothing about it. I was not able to change rooms or even get a fan to help. They did give me a discount, but only after I asked for it. The location was very convenient. All but one of the staff were friendly.

The property is literally a 2 minute walk to the Milan Duomo and museums. Its no doubt a convenient spot, the metro is approximately a 3 minutes walk as well as the tour guide buses. But this isnt really reflected in the description when you go to book Hotel Rio, so this needs to be emphasised in the description.
Breakfast was delicious and a small range of items but not bad for a city hotel at a nominal price and staff were extremely helpful.
My only criticism was that hotel is a little outdated as well as a dark interior but the rooms were comfy. As well as this there is no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms.i had to go across the road and get coffee if i wanted it.overall it was a good place to stay and i felt really safe.
