I had few negative things to say about this hotel until a very unfortunate incident at check out.

For the sake of fairness, I'll start with the good points. The resort is located in a quiet village surrounded by nature. Throughout my stay, the staff were warm and kind until the incident at the end.

To the negative experience, I was at the lobby checking out when a call came from housekeeping. Apparently, there was a bath towel missing. I was asked if I knew anything about it and I said it must be somewhere within the villa. I then settled my bill and boarded the buggy to get to the car park. As the buggy was just about to depart, the lady from the lobby came running and asked us to return all the way to the villa so I can show them where the missing towel was. I complied and while walking back to the villa I slipped and landed on my right knee. In any case, when I got to the villa, there was only one large bath towel (there were 4 or 5 other towels two of which I didn't even use). To end all the embarrassment, I gave them two options either to search my box for the missing towel or simply bill me the cost. At this point, a guy who introduced himself as the housekeeping manager said it was ok and I left.

I assume I'd left the towel by the poolside the previous day. Since the hotel meticulously keeps a tally of towels, I hope they apologise when they find it..all this happened on my birthday which the resort failed to recognise, not that it matters anyway!

A beautiful stay for our first time in Ubud! Everything was beautiful! Staff were exceptional! Beautiful surroundings. For us our only issue was that nothing was really in walking distance so we constantly had to organise drivers etc which was fine but thought it was worth a mention.

Hotel was tranquil and reasonably clean. However, outdoor bathroom and gaps in the wooden windows meant there were heaps of mosquitoes even in the hotel room. The toilet which was located outdoors was also often wet during rainy season.

Location wise, it was close to a number of tourist spots that our kids enjoyed. However, this also meant prices within the hotel and surroundings can be quite expensive.

Overall, the staff were friendly and food was great. Not sure if I would recommend visiting during monsoon season.

Enjoyed my stay overall. The staffs are super friendly and always respond quickly. The staffs in the restaurant performed magic at dinner one night which was very entertaining. There are also some engineers onsite to fix different issues. The room was spacious. The light control in the bed is a thoughtful design. The only issue I had was the internet connection. Some places do not have wifi signal or not strong enough to keep my phone connected (e.g. the balcony and bathroom in my room). The internet in the whole resort could be off for some time each day (ranging from a few minutes to several hours during my stay). But this is not a big problem if you don’t want to be online all the time.

I almost want to keep this place a secret…it is that special.
Divine surroundings, delightful staff, delectable swimming pool and dreamy waterfall.
The restaurant serves delicious, beautifully presented food at excellent prices.
We stayed in a villa over the lily ponds and the sound of the water was magical and so relaxing.
I liked that it is surrounded by Balinese villages but if you want to walk out and shop, this is not for you.
We hope to return.

This was I think our 4 or 5 time to stay there. Over all we love the place and intend to stay there again.

What I did not like is that they were not clear on when the restaurant closed. It closes at 10 pm is all they said when we checked in. What they did not say was that they stop taking orders at 900. I have cancer and need to eat when I take my medication. The guy in the restaurant did not care. It was not until I spoke with a manager that they agreed to get me something to eat and brought it to our room.

Can’t describe how deeply in awe I was with this place when I first arrived. The staffs are friendly and accommodating. I had to leave the hotel early af 3am on 8/9/2019 for Bali Marathon 2019 but no ride-hailing services were available at that hour. I almost panicked and thought I might have to cancel racing altogether. (Really. It was entirely to be blamed for not checking thoroughly beforehand).
Thankfully, the front desk staff tried his best to get me a transportation to the race venue and yes! One of the night duty security guards volunteered to send me to the venue at Bali Safari, which is located 25min away from the hotel. I am deeply grateful with all the sincere help I have received from the staffs at the hotel and not to forget the excellent service. To all the staffs at Santhi Mandala, you all are awesome people!

Location wise. the villa is located somewhere deep in the village and it’s not a dense tourist area. One might need to check if there’s any ride hailing available (e.g: Gojek, Grab, BlueBird) on different hours to get you to tourist-attractions or you can always get on the hotel shuttle provided. Overall the surrounding is peaceful and quiet. The villa also has a few small patches of paddy fields as well as a natural streaming river.

I had dinner a couple of times at the hotel during my stay. The food is reasonably priced with generous portion. Restaurant staffs are friendly and accommodating too.

Excellent staff service. Very quiet and away from city. Good for family and delicious breakfast. Will be better if towels have no stain and no lizards in the rooms. Unless you are ok with lizard singing in the middle of the night. Spa is great. Had one dinner in the restaurant and no regret at all (good food and very entertaining young band playing modern songs). Wifi is not that good in certain area of the villa but ok overall.

Pure luxury in the most tranquil surroundings

This was one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed - we got a one-bedroom villa with a private pool and would highly recommend it if you want to really switch off and experience pure relaxation. The breakfast area was stunning and it was such a treat starting the morning immersed in nature. Would highly recommend a trip to the spa - I had an aromatherapy massage which was great but the main highlight was the beautiful, tranquil surroundings. The free 10 min shuttle into town is very handy - we were worried about the property being too far away from Ubud but it's so easy to get in and feels good being outside the busy city.

Lovely place to stay, closer to Ubud than some other hotels which have Ubud addresses. Walking distance from Bali Spirit Festival, and Batuan. I have never previously stayed in a hotel with a river running through the middle of it. It works well here! You can watch the ducks from the restaurant or swimming pool. Not the plushest place, but I think the overall atmosphere is more important than level of luxury.

We had a (not so) private villa. Poor layout had a huge window with clear line of sight to our bathroom/shower and our 'private' pool from other rooms. Property has it's charms but it's a bit older and run down. Staff was inauthentic, incessantly asking what you were doing today, where you were from, and pushing their spa sessions as if reading from a charmless playbook. Breakfast would have been in line with expectations had we not been pestered to answer the same exact questions from 5 separate employees. Came home one very hot day to find our room AC turned off. They organized a taxi for us at double the average rate. Wi-Fi spotty. Title says it all - Never Again. Way to many nicer choices available for LESS.

P.S. We stayed in villas at 4 locations around the island, as well as 2 other hotels during our visit. Two of the other villas were less expensive than this one and all three were a much better experience. Our hotel rooms were also better than this 'villa' experience.

I really enjoyed this hotel. It is perfect for the retreat that I was looking for. It's about 20 minutes (free hotel shuttle that runs 4 times a days) away from the city. I usually take this shuttle around dinner time and get into UBUD city for dinner and a cheap massage :)
The hotel was under renovation, but I love the traditional Balinese living style (the outdoor bathroom, the four post bed and all the suites have outdoor patio, and you have your own little hut)
One thing that I was a bit disappointed in was that the common areas is a bit out dated and not as luxurious. Other than that, the staff and the level of service was amazing.

Santi Mandala is beautiful! Our room was nice, open, and clean. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was delicious. I didn't notice from the photos, but the bathrooms are sort of outside (they're enclosed and gorgeous, but I was not prepared for the heat while getting ready or the potential for bugs/geckos hanging around), so I figured I'd mention that so no one else is surprised. Ha. Overall, had a great time and would stay here again.

It's not the newest hotel, but there is a graceful charm and elegance that works at SM. The service is excellent, and the staff are friendly, and care. The rooms are very \"luxurious 10 years old\", but lovely, comfortable and well-appointed. It's excellent value, and the transfers into Ubud are reasonable, so not a difficulty at all. We made a decision to stay one day at the hotel, having massages and doing yoga classes with Bismah. Then, the next day we went adventuring. My travel companion is gluten-intolerant and the Hotel were very helpful with making sure she had suitable dining options.

This hotel is out of any tourist locations, which is great if you want few days in a great resort, or are comfortable with taking a shuttle or taxi anywhere. It is an hour from the airport and driving distance to the beach.
But great for relaxing for few days by the pool, without any crowds.
I was celebrating my birthday at the hotel and the staff prepared little cake for me and sang happy birthday.
The personnel is really very friendly and the food was delicious.

Staying in this hotel was the worst decision we could have made. It is terrible and really do not understand any positive reviews about this property.
It is completely outdated, very badly located (30 minutes from Ubud Center) and on the edge of a river with no water. You can see the dirt and garbages on the bottom of the river, we actually saw kids throwing garbages from a bridge while we were checking in.

The room had a terrible and filthy smell that we could not get off. The room was not clean and the mosquito net as well as curtains had probably never been washed (stains and dead insects). To top it all I had to kill an enormous cockroach that was on my bed.

The breakfast is the worst we had in Bali and the hotel even tried to charge me a ridiculous phone call that they made to book me a taxi (that is their job!). also this hotel feels empty and I do not see why they are still in business

Peaceful Location close to Zoo

While a couple of my friends stayed in renovated villas, I stayed in one of the old ones. Mine had an outdoors free standing toilet between the shower and bathtub, so I was very happy to have a villa on my own. In contrast, the newly renovated villas have more privacy with the toilet and shower behind a screening wall.The bedroom in both the renovated and old villas were comfortable with good air conditioning. The villas have nice, large verandas.
The hotel offers free yoga classes from 7-8 am, 6 days a week. We enjoyed a refreshing shower under the beautiful waterfall on the property after the yoga class The pool area could have done with a few more lounge chairs but is otherwise fine. The spa services offered at the hotel are far more expensive than in Ubud but the hotel is willing to negotiate, if you prefer to stay at the hotel.
The hotel offers a very limited continental breakfast, in addition to a choice of eggs and a lot of fruit. So although, the selection appears a little limited, it is more than adequate. We loved the ample supplies of fruit!
All staff members were extremely friendly and helpful. The biggest downside to staying at the Santi Mandala is the distance from Ubud, although there is a free shuttle bus available. It takes 25 minutes to travel to Ubud and the shuttle can be booked in advance for A$8 (IRP8000), if the scheduled shuttle times don't suit.

The Santi Mandala was a very tranquil experience.
Surrounded by wildlife & jungle.
A freshwater stream runs down the middle of the resort with ducks, fish & lizards everywhere to enjoy.
I highly reccommend the garden villa's they are very peaceful with only the sound of frogs disturbing the nights silence.
The pool & rooms are immaculate & the resort grounds are very well maintained.
The staff were very friendly & even provided a birthday cake without being asked for one of our travel companions who was pleasantly surprised.
You will not be dissappointed staying at the Santi Mandala.

Absolutely beautiful! I would come back to Bali just to stay here and I wish we had of stayed at this hotel the whole time during our trip to Bali. It was so relaxing and quiet and gorgeous. Recommend booking a plunge pool villa or a luxury pool villa (we had the chance to stay in both as we were upgraded for our first night to a luxury pool villa) The free shuttle into Ubud is also very good. Only improvement needed is the breakfast is average but still okay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Amazing place to stay and we cannot wait to return.

Very warm staff .. From check it to check out caring and concern . This was our honeymoon was happy that I stayed here the river flowing and the villas are very well maintained , expect for people who are sacred of lizards they may come across a few as the gardens are huge .

We have just spent an amazing 7days/6nights holiday at Santi Mandala. It was absolutely amazing. The time was too short though. There is so much to see in the area that we plan to go back for at least 2 weeks. The hotel and the stuff is fantastic. The most relaxing and enchanting place ever. And the food was great (I was worried reading some earlier reviews but it was all right).

The hotel is slightly off the beaten track, your taken by golf buggy from the car park across the bridge over the river( which was dry due to being used for irrigation) your greater by the staff and check in aw straight forward and pleasant Your then taken by buggy to your villa , we had a garden view family villa. This has two double four poster beds in the same room very comfortable. The villa was very clean and roomy , there is a belcony which goes out over the pond and your garden has your sunken bath and an outdoor shower and outdoor toilet.
To sum up we spent 3 days here with our two daughters a 11 and 15 and although a little quiet , that's the whole point of the place. The staff and location were superb

Wonderful ambiance, unlike some of the very sterile modernistic hotels in Nusa Dua and elsewhere on Bali. The setting of the hotel was absolutely gorgeous. Although this hotel is only around twelve years old, they have maintained the character and native charm, yet with all of the modern convenience one could wish for. The name apparently means \"harmonious place\" and we certainly found t to be so. The hotel was integrated into its natural surroundings, rather than being separated or cut-off from them.

We got there at midnight and the staff took us to our villa in a golf cart. We could not see much at night about the surroundings. But we woke up to great day with a beautiful view of the Rice fields and people working in it.

We had a 1 Bedroom Luxury pool villa and it was very private and worth the price.

The breakfast and Wi-Fi were included and the breakfast was really amazing. The menu changes everyday to keep it interesting. Even being a vegetarian, I was not short of options and all I had to do was tell the staff what I wanted and see if they make that. They made me Veg Fried Rice and pancakes on my request. They had a wide variety of items like fried corn, Baked Potato, Stuffed Potato, Pastries and they even had doughnuts our last day there. The restaurant was even open for breakfast at around 10:50 AM even though the official close is at 10:30.
It helped us a lot as we had just come from a volcano after leaving the resort at 2:30 AM without breakfast

The room was huge and they have a DVD player and a satellite connection.

House keeping was thorough in cleaning.

Make sure you go down where the SPA is and you will find an amazing waterfall there. It feels like a whole other world.

There is a shuttle to Ubud every two hours stating at 10AM till 8Pm if am not wrong and pickup from Ubud at 10:30AM to 10:30 PM every two hours. (Only used it once)

All in all Serene and Relaxing for first timers to bali

Perfect getaway

Our family of 4 stayed 3 nights at the Santi Mandala and were pleasantly surprised at the luxury of our villa. We were also lucky to receive an upgrade. The two story villa came with its own pool which was an excellent addition for my son (who is part fish after staying here). The main pool in the resort is also very good.
The restaurant was excellent with a good choice of food.
The location was also excellent. Although a fair way out of the centre of Ubud, the Santi Mandala provides a free shuttle bus to get you into town. They are also able to provide awesome drivers to take you on tours around the place. Being out of Ubud means that it is very quiet - the only sound being the local workers in the rice fields. If you do not want to eat in the restaurant though, you will need to travel to Ubud as local eating options are few.
Be warned that there are a lot of stairs (you are in the hills!) but they also have a golf cart to help you get around. The grounds are large and very impressive.

Fantastic place to relax and rejuvenate

This place is awesome! It is in a jungle type setting with lots of beautiful greenery and streams that make you feel relaxed and peaceful. The rooms feature an outdoor bathroom/shower (surrounded by a 12ft high brick wall) and an airconditioned bedroom. Plus our room had a balcony that had a stream running under it, so we could sit on the deck and enjoy the soothing water sounds. The food in the restaurant was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great resort and spa, really friendly staff and wonderful location. Superb pool and restaurant facilities , a really relaxing resort surrounded by wonderful flora and fauna with the river running through the middle, unique.

beautiful and serene resort

We were staying in the resort for 3 days.We were given room number 201.
the resort is amazing the service is great the staff is very hospitable and we had a wonderful stay .
However want to give a feedback on two or three points.
first the open bathroom given in the room was uncomfortable and we were not informed at the time of the booking that the bathroom is in the open in a garden. open bathroom may be inappropriate and very uncomfortable if one is travelling along with family or friends.
Also the minibar was placed in the bathroom which was not proper.
Secondly the fire alarm in the room was making a big noise in the night every twenty minutes as though the door was being opened. This kind of noise disturbed our sleep especially in the tranquil and peaceful environment thereby spoiling the experience of otherwise a wonderful resort. We were not able have a sound sleep for each of the nights.
Also the AC was not effective as it was small for the room and took a lot of time to cool.
Otherwise the room was very nicely done up being next to the lotus pond.
The resort had a very positive energy and the atmosphere was very relaxing special appreciation for the staff who were very hospitable.
Most importantly the river flowing through the resort was serene and the sound of the waterfall was very relaxing and unique experience
but they need to work upon the comfort in the room
would want to go again after checking up the aforesaid points
