Good place. Very close to Namdaemun Market and Namdaemun Underground Shopping Street. Lots of restaurants around the hotel. Walking distance to Myeongdong Market and the Seoul Plaza (which had events on the weekend we were there)! They serve Korean and American breakfast at their buffet.

Dated hotel. Scratches everywhere. No safe so we had to carry passport and cash all the time. No closet or drawers for storage. Room is good size with 2 queen beds, but mattress is basic. Small window, no natural light. Friendly and accommodating staff. Convenient location with lots of food choices and street shopping . Very close to subway station. Breakfast changed few items everyday. Two showers which I thought it was very convenient given that we are a group of 4, but then staff told us not to use one of them given that it is dirty and difficulties clean???!!! Weird.

For the price you pay, this hotel offers the best value. The building is not brand-new, but it's well maintained and clean. The breakfast buffet was great, and the location was excellent for all kinds of touristy stuff. The highlight was the hospitality. All the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. We felt very welcomed during our stay. Plus, their cat was super cute and playful! No litter smell or anything. We'd recommend this place to our friends and family for sure.

Very walkable to Namdaemun and Myeongdong for shopping, and the restaurants nearby open until late. Nearby Airport Bus route!

Modern and spacious

The room was very modern with high ceiling, black tiles, and nice lighting. It had a table with 4 stools, a desk with a chair next to the minifridge, and a table by the bathroom. The quality bedding was comfortable, the mattress firm. My kids really liked the bunk beds tucked away in there own cove. It gave the feeling of privacy and separation between sleeping areas. The tv was large and comfortable to watch from the bed. The bathroom, while impressive looking, was a touch odd. There is no door separating the bathroom from the room. There is a door to the toilet. There was a large tub with a shower head next to the toilet and then another separate shower area across from the toilet. I was excited by the idea of the tub thinking it would keep the rest of the bathroom floor dry. It didn't as it leaked water down from the tile edges. The bath shower is separated from the toilet with a black glass wall. If you are close you can see the person in the toilet. And you can see the person showering when you are on the toilet. My young teenage kids didn't shower here during our 2 night stay as there was no privacy and they don't like being naked in front of each other. This is made worse by the Korean towels which are like hand towels and don't cover your body. Overall, the room felt luxurious compared to some of the other hostels we'd been in. The breakfast was delicious with many options: eggs, ham/bacon, bulgogi, noodles, veggies, toast, tofu/dumpling soup, rice porridge, & fruit.

I was on a solo trip and this was the perfect hotel for me. I reserved a double room and the room was fairly large that came with a small sofa, small fridge, 2 desk, 2 computers and a large shower with a bidet. The bathroom also had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, hair straightener, comb and a round brush. The room was comfortable and the area was pretty quiet. There’s a ton of restaurants down the block from the hotel and the airport bus was only a 5 min walk which was very convenient for my early morning flight. Staff was pretty friendly and when I couldn’t open the lock from my luggage, the front desk staff found multiple tools to help me pry the lock open so in my book, staff does go above and beyond for you here. Also they have a free breakfast buffet for their guest that caters to both the Asian and western palate. The only complaint I have is that the bathroom is kind of dark even with both lights on. I would definitely stay again.

its totally a nightmare, the room is very old, dusty and the condition is poor. The desk is like an antique that no one clean it for ages. I am sure they don't change bed sheet for long time that you can see dust on your bed...

Heater cannot change temperature and its always 30c in winter time, can't even sleep with such a hot environment !

Staff is rude and not helpful, we were just asking for route but her attitude was very rude, a very bad staying experience.

The room looks old, floor tiles and wall paint were dirty and fitted with old furniture. Was surprised that the toilet without door which is inconvenient for the family since there were 4 of us staying in a family suite . After requested to change room, they had accommodated me with a better room with door in toilet.

One specific staff in blonde hair had extremely bad service. She didnt answer any of our questions. She didnt even want to help on anything we tried to explain.
The air condition at our room kept turning off early in the morning, for the 6full days. Extremely bad. Worst hotel i ever been among the same stars. HOTEL 8 Hours was much much better.

Pretty Good Hotel

This hotel is pretty good. It's within walking distance between myeongdong and it takes about 15 - 20 minutes to walk to Sejong statue. Very close to lotte department store and the food court was good. The stay was good as we weren't in the hotel during the day time. The standard room is quite small, once you walk in, there is 1 twin bed and 1 full. With in 2 feet the bed is from the bathroom. The bathroom is includes a bidet, no shower curtain but the tub was massive. There is a small closet in the corner next to the window, with a safe and a mini fridge. Sometimes during the midnight there would be a lot of noise due to the people singing at the bar or people eating a kbbq. But overall the hotel was quite good!

Great area, not so great hotel

There was one room with two beds, a sofa (right neXtvto the beds so no leg room to actually use the couch), there was a huge \"box\" dominating one end of the room which turned out to contain the super high tech toilet. I hope you and anyone you are staying are happy with see through toilet doors and lighting so dim you have to keep the door open to pee!

There's a bathroom that consist of a giant spa bath which takes up half the room (Ivsay room loosely because there is no door so it's more like an alcove). The shower pressure was great, but the shower head was terrible and only partially worked on one side. The sink and vanity take up another huge chunk of space the the room. There is a thin desk running along one wall that hardly has room to work on because there is an archaic PC computer for guest use on it. There is no privacy or space to move around and spending too much time in this room makes you stir-crazy.

The only amenities are a tiny fridge, a safe we couldn't open, slightly melted hairdryer and a kettle. Towels were supplied in good order.

The housekeeping was very good. The line ons of low quality but we never saw dirt nor dust nor bugs. So if all you are after is a clean room to rest your head, this is fine.

Everything has lights, so much so that we had to go around and tape sheets of paper over the large glowing green screens just so we could sleep - bring an eye mask!

They advertise laundry facilities but don't expect them.

Older hotel in a good location

When I first booked my reservation, I was wary of the previous reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. Reviews were mixed between good and horrible, so I prepared myself for the worst.

Expedia had a great deal, so my family and I went for it, knowing we wouldn't be in our room except for sleeping anyway so even if the room was a disaster, at least we weren't going to be there a lot. But when we checked in (they accommodate late check-ins, our flight got in at midnight!, and the hotel staff speaks mandarin!), the check in process was brief, and we went up to our rooms. The hallways are kind of small with four rooms on each floor. We booked two rooms, and they were both surprisingly clean. Sure, the walls could use a new coat of paint, but the room was spacious with comfortable beds. My only issue was the layout of the bathroom, could really use a towel hook or a shower curtain that didn't stick to you while you were showering. But there's a jacuzzi, big mirror, and a good amount of table space.

The hotel itself is on a smaller street with lots of restaurants, places to drink, and street vendors. It might not be appropriate for families with little children. It can get pretty loud at night if you sleep with the window open, but there's definitely lots to eat if you're a night owl or wake up in the middle of the night hungry. The hotel is a great location if you're looking to shop at Myeongdong, and it's close to different subway stations which makes it easy to get around.

Very nice and conveniently located hotel

Nice and conveniently located hotel, situated right across the street from Namdaemum, it provided short walking distance to MyeongDong, Seoul City Hall, and other popular visitor sites. And it is in between two different subway lines to make it simple to get around the city. There are lots of restaurants right outside so finding a meal was never a problem. Hotel staff are friendly and speaks English. The hotel and its rooms all have a modern look. It was a very nice, comfortable, and safe stay.

Good location

Location was good, right next to multiple subway locations. The cleaning lady mopped our room everyday so it was always clean. Everything was super spacious and a lot more advanced then we thought. The worst thing was there was a jacuzzi tub in the washroom but the water is not hot enough and the water pressure is very weak. And since there is no shower curtains either, in a large washroom like that, i was so cold during my shower. It was the worst experience I ever had.....

i'm loving it!

I'm a returned customer of the hotel. The location of the hotel is not just simply highly accessible to many of the attractions such as Myeongdong, Namdaemun Market, Lotte Youth Store etc. MRT stations for Line 1, 2, 4 (Dark Blue, Green, and Blue line) are just in 5 min walking distance.

As for the hotel itself, it's tidy and clean as usual. Friendly FO staff and timely housekeeping services...

HORRIBLE!

This \"hotel\" was terrible. It was in actuality a tall motel. The room was uncomfortably small for myself, my wife, and our one-year old daughter. There was no space to store our luggage or the baby's stroller. Throughout the room, the walking space was just that, walking space. Maybe a foot and a half to walk throughout the room. My wife and I couldn't even pass each other in the aisle. We booked our reservation for I believe five nights, but only stayed for one. We are extremely dissatisfied with our stay there. While the employees were polite and tried to be helpful, they spoke very little broken english, and were often times lost in translation. The whole \"pay in advance, no refunds\" policy is probably the only way that this establishment makes any revenue at all, aside from being booked for one-night stands. The beds were firm and uncomfortable, and we got little to no sleep the only night we forced ourselves to stay there. Is there anyway at all to get at least a partial refund from this mistake?

A little bag of horrors in premier location.

The Pluses -
The room is decently priced and sized. Hotel is walking distance from four trains, and is a 3-min walk from the Incheon Airport Bus stop (Namdaemun). Bathroom’s equipped with a jacuzzi tub. The mattress and pillows are comfortable. The staff spoke some English; I've also heard them converse in Mandarin and Japanese with other hotel guests.

The Minuses -
I'll start with rooms. I've made a request during the booking for a non-smoking room with double bed but there wasn't any available. They pointed to me that the booking option was for 2 single beds 'or' a double, emphasizing on the word \"OR\". They had also disposed of my bottle of cologne accidentally when they swapped my rooms, with no offer of an apology.

Housekeeping; or the lack of. The room and furniture reaked of stale cigarette smoke. The bedsheets were stained. One had traces of blood on it and the other, dirt. I had a shock when I stepped on the bathroom mat with the bedroom slippers - I'm not too sure where they might have been. Toiletries were half-used when I checked in. Coffee stains from my daily morning coffee are visible on the cups when I returned to my room each day.

Design and Condition. The rooms and furniture are tired. The showers were built away from the bathtub, so if you want to rinse after a soak in the tub, you'll have to wet the entire bathroom.

They had also missed a morning call on the morn that I had to check out to head to the airport.

Stayed in the Family room. Was with my wife and my teenage boy and girl. Was horrified when we found that there the shower is open concept with no door, though room came with a HUGE Jacuzzi that is big enough for 2 person.

Spoke to the front desk and they promised to do something about it. Managed to buy a shower curtain and set it up on the second day. Was perfect after that.

The only lift broke down on one of the days. I was waiting for the lift and the front desk staff ran up 7 storeys when he saw me waiting for lift on the CCTV just to inform me. Later he was seen helping guests that was checking out carrying their luggage down from their room through the stairs. Great service attitude.

The neighbourhood can be quite rowdy late at night as there are a few pubs nearby. Witnessed a fight and police making arrest right outside the hotel near midnight on a Saturday.

To be fair, we could have done more research before booking the hotel. Looking at the photos and general reviews on Expedia, we thought it seemed ok for a budget trip. It seemed bright, clean and new and my husband's company was subsidising a certain amount for the trip so we tried to find cheaper accommodation so we didn't have to come up with a lot of extra cash (very bad idea btw). My husband and I were travelling with my mother, younger sister and her boyfriend to visit some family in Korea. The hotel is definitely not suitable for families. It is in the Myeongdong area, which is a good, central shopping location but the street it was in is absolutely filled with pubs and there were tons of noisy and drunk people at night. Is it very very dimly lit inside and the general maintenance was terrible (stains on the carpet, paint falling off doors, flickering lights). The room itself was dark but seemingly clean (though you can't really tell due to it being so dark), and was even outfitted with a love tub! When our taxi driver dropped us off, he warned us to be careful at night, and told my husband that it is not usually a place families would stay in. We did not even last a night. My husband felt bad about arranging such accommodation for my mother (especially the love tub), so he checked us in to another hotel by 11pm the same night. I wouldn't say it is a terrible hotel. Suitable maybe backpackers or grad trips? just not one for families!

I really enjoyed staying at Hotel Irene. The room was quiet, clean, and ideal for getting some work done while staying in Seoul. It is conveniently located near Namdaemun market and quite close to numerous metro stops (including Seoul Station if you are coming in by plane and need inexpensive transportation to downtown from the airport). The hotel staff were extremely accommodating, helpful and courteous. I would definitely stay at Hotel Irene again.

In the winter, the internal heater system (?) makes me feel very special.

This is our second time at Hotel Irene and we were just as happy with it once again. Room was a little small but still very comfortable and fabulous bathroom. We love the location of this hotel, right across the street from Namdaemum market and within comfortable walking distance to a lot of major sights. Between two subway lines but both within a 10 minute walk. They even provide free parking.

Nice staff but strange hotel

We stayed there for four nights. The hotel was a bit strange as we suspect that it was renovated from an office/industrial building. The light at the toilet, corridor and the room was quite dim. The room was not too clean - dust and marks on the sheets. We like the jacuzzi at our room but we do not totally like the idea of having no door for the shower/bath area. We experienced some problems with the wifi and computer on the first night. But the staff fixed it on the next morning. The location was alright - close to the tube station and walkable distance to myeongdong. The staff was very helpful and friendly too.

It has got everyhing you need for the traveller with an average - higher than average budget. It is only 5 minutes away frm the train station, extremely convenient. And it is tucked away in the side street surrounded by great food! Almost all d eateries served grilled korean bbq, which was awesome in d middle of winter. N there's a convenience store n post office just 1 min walk away frm the hotel. Basically, in a nutshell, extremely convenient location! The room was spacious enuf for the 3 of us: myself, my mom and my sister. It could fit 1 queen bed and 2 single beds, and still w space left to walk confortably on the room with our 3 luggage bags on the floor.

Overall: if i were to cone to seoul, which most likely i will, to buy skincare and stuff, would definitely stay @ hotel irene.

Modern looking and though a little worn in the room & the bed sheets were a little dirty looking which was a concern. The location is downtown and in a good spot except for the apparent night life with lots of guys with earpieces looking for men for their clubs. Maybe it's a \"love hotel\" then. Reasonable for price but not great.

Nice hotel but with limited English speaking staffs

Situated within a walking distant to Myeongdong and City hall metro, Hotel Irene is a nice alternative to look at for its design and comfort. The hotel is suitable for both shopping and business visitors. The only problem I had with the hotel is the limited English speaking staffs. Although they are really polite but not all staffs at the front desk were able to speak English properly making it difficult to make any requests from them such as checking for room availability or simply checking out.

I had the opportunity to stay in both standard and suite rooms. Both room are comfortable and come equipped with two beds; one queen size and a one single. Each room has a desktop connected with a LAN. However, there is no wifi in both floor 6th and 7th. Every equipments instructions in the room are in Korean.

There is no huge different of the two rooms type except the room layouts and the bathtubs. Standard comes with huge hot tub while the Suite comes with a traditional wooden tub (smaller).

Overall, I enjoyed staying at Hotel Irene and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for smaller hotel situated away from the busy Myeongdong grid.

I do like the location and the surroundings with korean restaurant and convenient store. It is located opposite from Namdaemun market and easy walk to MyeongDong market.

However, their bathroom is not practical. It is buitin with toilet with no partition to separate between showers and toilet. and the showers itself doesn't have place to put soap and shampoo.

The room is equipped with personal computer and wifi. Very convenient

Overall, this is a great hotel.

Nice modern boutique hotel in a great location

- How to get to the hotel: Subway City Hall Station, Exit 7. Walk straight out of Exit 7 to the first intersection. Look to the left and go through the small street between Ediya Coffee and Dunkin Donuts. Walk straight for ~5 minutes. It's on your left.
- friendly staff, speaks some english
- no wireless internet, computer in the room with internet (pretty fast)
- rooms are modern, nice, clean, comfortable. Spacious bathroom for our Standard room)
- Great central location
- About 5-10 min walk to Namdaemun shopping area. Go left out of the hotel, left again at the main road and take the underground shopping route, follow signs to Namdaemun or Myeon-dong shopping areas. Close to Shinsegae, Lotte, Avenuel department stores. Also Noon Square market for street food and shopping.
- Tons of restaurants/bars/cafes on the same street as the hotel.
- 20-25 min walk to Namsan Cable Car Station (to get to Mt. Namsan)
- Great rates for exchanging USD all around Namdaemun and Myeon-dong (I wouldn't recommend exchanging too much $ in the US, the rates are terrible).

The hotel Irene is located in the center of Seoul city and a nearest subway station is just 5 minutes away from the hotel. If you are looking for a place for a business trip. This is a great place to stay. The neighborhood was a little bit sketchy. There were many \"business clubs\" which I think is a gentleman's club in Korea. But overall, I recommend this place.

スタッフは皆親切でした。
猫との接し方を知らないとシャーされるかも。
喫煙所は1階と9.10階の間にあるので困りませんでした。
変圧器とバッグスケールもお借りすることができました。
毎日ルームクリーニングしてくれました。
朝のビュッフェが美味しいです！

部屋も広く、清潔感もあり快適に過ごせました。
部屋にマッサージチェアがあったので、毎日使用しました。
交通の便もよく市庁駅まで歩いて5分。そこから地下鉄で1駅でソウル駅。

マイナス点は
•部屋にセキュリティボックスがない
•ジャケットを描けるハンガークロークが、とても高い位置にあり、棒で引っ掛けて取るようになっていて面倒。

全体的には快適に過ごさせていただきました。

親2人、子供2人で宿泊。
ダブルベットは毎日ベットメイクしていただけましたが、
子供は2段ベットは3泊一度もなかったです。
1泊目にベッドメイク依頼をしましたがしてもらえなかったので、諦めました、、（多分掃除の人は2人だと思ってる？）
掃除も甘く、2段ベットの下など見えない部分の埃が掃除されないままだったのが残念でした。
見えてる部分は綺麗にしてくださります！

フロントの方は親切で24時間チェックインが出来て良かったです。
チェックアウト後も荷物預かっていただけます。

ただ、毎日シーツは新しいし、タオルも交換いただけて虫もでない、朝ごはんも一通り食べれるものがありコスパのかなり良いホテルでした。

あと、ロビーに猫ちゃんがいてかわいいです。

南大門市場の道路渡って真向かい、市庁の裏の繁華街にあり、明洞まで歩いて10分と交通の便は最高です。
施設は古いですが、広めでゆとりがあります。
無料の朝食は種類も多めでとても素晴らしいですね。
ただ2点疑問があります。あのパソコンとデスクは何なんでしょう？ほこりがかぶって誰も使わないので、あのスペースがなければもっと広いのにと思います。それと日本人には慣れてない、シャワーがトイレまで流れてしまうことです。海外ではシャワーとトイレが一緒なのは普通ですが、段差があったり、流れない仕切りがあったりしてますが、こちらは普通につながっており、トイレに流れてしまします。シャワーを浴びながら足でお湯をシャワー側の排水溝に戻しながら浴びないと水浸しになってしますので、とても気持ち悪いです。

高級ホテルではなく、一般的なホテルの評価としてはかなり使いやすいです。

USBケーブルもコンセントに挿して3種類準備されているし、国際コンセント変換プラグがあれば、空きコンセントが使えます。
ドライヤーも美容院のようなドライヤーが準備されているし、バスタブはありませんがその分シャワールームは広いし、隣のレストルームはシャワーカーテン越しでも泡がちゃんと流れるように計算されていて、気持ちよく使えました。
トイレはシャワートイレです。
室内冷蔵庫もあるし、ペットボトルの水がサービスで冷やされています。

難点は。
連泊のタオル交換と掃除はして貰えますが、交換のタオルを置きっぱなし…
あと、ハンドソープの機械にゴミが積んでいました…
日本語は、スタッフによって…理解度と意思の疎通が変わります。
あと。
TVリモコンに部屋の電気とエアコンと全て機能が付いていますが、使い方が韓国語が読めても難しい…
ネイティブの友人もよくわからない、と言っていました。

朝食ビュッフェも美味しいです。
また利用したい施設でした。
