Peaceful hotel with amazing owners along the sea!

A peaceful hotel owned by the sweetest family. Our room had a private balcony and gorgeous views of the sea. The property is approx 200 meters outside the small village with a private beach but the owners will pick you up at the ferry or at the exit from the Samaria gorge if you coordinate ahead of time. The property has sunbeds and umbrellas to use for free and sea kayaks and pedal boats to use for free. The family works very hard to accommodate us and are incrdibly kind. The hotel is small and they have a small family staff so things happen at a more casual pace which is relaxing. Fish may not be available every meal because the owner, George, is also the fisherman and he may not have a large catch that morning or the weather may prevent fishing but my advice is ask staff for recommendations for what to eat. Every time we asked staff for food recommendations, we had a delicious meal! We ate most meals at the hotel and only went into the village for a cocktail or to walk around. It is the perfect place to unplug, relax, and enjoy some beautiful views and peace.

We spent 4 lovely days at the sweet corner with our 11 year old boy and had a great time. We were met off the ferry by Nectaris in his car that takes a battering each time he drives along the rocky road. We were impressed how he handles that car!
Lovely Emma was there to show us around and answer any questions for us. She is fluent in English and was our main point of contact.
The accommodation is basic but has all what you need. The reason we picked Sweet Corner was due to its location. It’s away from the main area, peaceful with a beautiful view. We didn’t want to be surrounded by restaurants and other hotels and all 5 rooms have a sea view.
The bonus also was the FREE use of the pedalo and the kayaks which we used everyday. Great for an active 11 year old boy. We snorkelled each day, so take your own gear. There are lots of beautiful fish to see and the sea is so clear.
My son was thrilled as we saw a Lion Fish.
It’s a short stroll (5 minute walk) down to the main area if you want a leg stretch, need to go to supermarket or fancy a cocktail. On one of the evenings Emma kindly packaged up a takeaway and we sat on the private beach just relaxing.
On day 3 Nectaris dropped us at the exit/entrance to the Samaria Gorge and we walked about half way in before we met people who had started their walk from Omalos. It was well worth it. Absolutely stunning.
I would recommend Sweet Corner if you want to be peaceful, active and enjoy nature.

An idyllic setting at the end of the road and away from the crowds. The hotel staffed by the welcoming and friendly extended family including yiayia. Also Amelia the multilingual amazing staff always ready to help. The food was always fresh and local even their own produce including cheese, honey, lamb and veg and whatever fish was freshly caught. Highly recommended.

Fantastic communal terrace, now shaded by light tree cover. Quiet location 7 minutes walk from village, with immediate access to the sea.
Very friendly and helpful, including staff with good english.
Room airy and with basic range of kitchen equipment if you're catering for yourself. Good range of food and drink offered throughout the day.

A small piece of heaven

I have been coming here for a number of years and as always I had a wonderful stay here this time too. It is a small piece of heaven tucked away at the edge of Agia Roumeli. I was welcomed like a member of the family and began to relax as soon as I arrived. From the fantastic view, the secluded beach, beautiful sea and the use of the kayaks to the delicious food, everything was as I would have wanted. The rooms are basic and clean with a/c and fans and a sea view balcony . An amazingly friendly Cretan experience and I will certainly return.

If you want luxury, pampering, or a resort this is not for you; however, if you love nature, quiet places, beaches that are wide open, friendly and genuine people, then you will love this place. The room is comfortable, spacious, and clean. The only downside is that the air conditioner is located in the kitchen area rather than the bedroom. When we were there, it was pretty hot and so we used the AC. Luckily, they do have a fan as well which we put on in the bedroom.

The place is family owned by people that are wonderful. They bend over backwards to help you and to make sure that everything is good. Their English is not good but they employ Emma, whose English is excellent. Guests have access to a small, hidden beach with sunbeds and umbrellas that are free, a pedalboat, and several sea kayaks. We took the kayaks out to explore and found a beautiful, isolated beach under the cliffs to swim at.

Access to the hotel is somewhat difficult as there are no roads leading in or out. You must either walk in on the E4 or Samaria Gorge trail, or take the ferry. We took the ferry and had suitcases that would be difficult to transport up the dirt road to Sweet Corner. If that is your case, just email or call them with your arrival time and they will be waiting for you at the ferry to drive you there.

Treated like royalty

One of the best hotel stays I've had. Although it's a 5 minute walk from the main part of town, this secluded spot has its own beaches and allows for canoe and paddle boat use. The location is absolutely beautiful and worth the trip. There is a restaurant in the main level that serves delicious, home cooked meals. The service was also extraordinary. Emma and the owner were friendly, easy to talk to, and always helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Lovely,peaceful place to stay...

We stayed for a week in September and loved it. The family who run this little hotel are lovely and make you feel really welcome.The village has 2 little supermarkets and several restaurants to choose from,although you may not choose to eat elsewhere once you've tasted Mama's great cooking ;-) Our apartment had 2 large rooms and also 2 balconies,very spacious.Great value for price paid especially as you get free sun loungers,kayaks and pedalo.
They will also come and pick you up from the boat (the distance is only around 400metres but a bit tricky with wheeled luggage on sandy track!) and will arrange to take you back to the boat too...and in my case rushed back down to the boat again with stuff i'd left in a drawer ,such nice people :-) We have tried to book 2 weeks next year but sadly they are fully booked.

Sweet corner is a nice place, located perhaps 400-500 meters outside of the village proper. On the plus side this means the hotel has its own beach with parasols, sun chairs, canoes and a pedalo - on the minus side the sun is baking hot when you walk the path. So a distance that I would normally think nothing of became a bit of a pain when you needed to cross it around noon. You do not need to walk with luggage, however, as the hotel owner will drive you (there is no road to Agia Roumeli but there are still a few cars in the village). He also drove us to the beginning of Samaria Gorge.
As for the apartment itself, it was very spacious and nice, but a bit on the dirty side (towels and sheets impeccably clean however), almost no cooking implements, and hard to get to a decent temperature, despite the airconditioning in one of the rooms.

Sweet Corner is the perfect description

This is a very sweet corner of the world indeed. Up on the cliffs just a few 100 meters from the ferry dock but feels like a perfect tiny little remote paradise. Amazing views of the crystal clear water from our large, clean room (complete with refrigerator and tiny kitchenette). Not fancy but everything you need and the genuine care and attention from the owner is priceless. We wanted to hike just a few hours of the Samarian Gorge with our 12-year old (who also, by the way, spent hours in the free kayaks paddling himself around between the hotel and the town on the waveless waters). The owner drove us to the entry point, saving us time (and pre-teen grumbling) and making the hike all the more enjoyable. The food is lovely, the beds are comfortable, but come for the hospitality, the views, the swimming, the quiet, and the easy access to the gorge.

Private beach was a great bonus!

Sweet Corner Masxali was a bit further further out along the shoreline in the small village of Agia Roumeli. The lovely benefit was a small private beach with the Mediterranean's crystal clear warm water. Kayaks, chairs, bikes available for your use, though after hiking through Samaria Gorge, we preferred just to swim. The hotel is basic and clean, with a/c if needed. Our room opened onto a deck (happily, with clothesline & pins). Food was good; view of the shoreline from the hotel's patio -- spectacular.

the location of the hotel (maybe intentionally) is way off from Hotels.com map. It is 500m from the west edge of a town which is, in its entirety, less than 300m wide. The map and gps location are not correct. the hotel is all by itself, far from town.
room i had was nprovoided was not the one reserved (description)
extremely slow internet : speed less than telephone modem at times
hot water is ONLY SOLAR. therefore, none in the morning
bathroom gets kind of humid with no windows
Only one room is air conditioned. The other connecting room is very hot. Took two days to cool both with fan provided by hotel. Hotel does not accept credit cards . It was necessary for me to use mine in town
to p[ay with a 5% surcharge.The so-called Kitchenette was essentially in name only. Not even a knife.
bath tub about 60cm long at bottom. Necessary to put feet high on wall in order to immerse one's upper torso. Having made all these criticisms, I must admit that the stay was very relaxing and peaceful. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to \"get away\" from civilization.

Sweet Corner Agia Roumelia

This is a fantastic place to stay. Staff very friendly and the food very good although menu was not as comprehensive as other restaurants. Great location but bear in mind that this place is only accessible by ferry or by walking 10 miles through the Samaria Gorge. Hotel has complimentary sun beds, canoes and a pedalo. Fantastic sea views from all rooms and great value for money.

Very nice, clean hotel on the beach.

Our experience was extremely positive despite the fact that we happened to arrive in the middle of a massive rain and wind storm. The staff was very kind and accommodating. We had only booked for a night but due to the storm, we stayed for an additional evening. The rooms were very clean, basic and very comfortable. We had a wonderful view of the beach. Once the storm lifted it was paradise. The hotel has a private beach and offers kayaks and peddle boats. The Tavern food at the hotel was excellent and fresh. All in all a great experience - we will back!

Sweet bit of Heaven

Absolute paradise, especially after hiking the Samarian Gorge! The family owners are very friendly and welcoming! MaMa makes GREAT food and Nictarias and Georgo were very accommodating. The private beach was just that! Clean and clear water...refreshing! The rooms were comfortable and the surroundings quite and relaxing! We definitely will try to return to this paradise and HIGHLY recommend Sweet Corner!

A nice quiet Hotel within walking distance of town

When we finished our hike of the Samara Gorge we were beat. Since this was our second trip down the gorge we wanted to stay in the town rather than take the boat back. While booking we wanted two rooms for the night but there were none available. So we settled on a room for four. After arriving there we found the room a little hot but there was good air conditioning so we went to the beach. They have their own private beach and it was really nice. After coming back the manager informed us that he has a cancelation of a three bed room and he gave it to us for no extra charge. So, we got our two rooms. The hotel had a restaurant on site (a nice Greek Taverna). We opted to eat there and the food and service were great. We were sorry we had our trip planned too closely, or we would have tried to stay another night.

Welcoming nights stay after a 6 hour trek

Booked this hotel to stay over for one night after walking the Samaria Gorge. One of the taverna owners called the hotel’s son to pick us up and drive us down to the hotel. The hotel is slightly out of town but the town is very small and it is a 10/15 min walk at most.

Basic amenities. Beds were comfortable; clean fresh linen. Bath with hand held shower head. Balcony with sea view. The bath and comfortable beds were heaven after a 6 hour walk through Samaria.

The owners could not have been more welcoming. They speak very little English – but why should they? we are in Crete !

Small private,quiet beach with free sunbeds

We spent time at the large pebble beach at the other end of the village - lovely clear water & ate gorgeous freshly caught fish (which we chose ourselves) at a local taverna

The walk back to the hotel from the village in the evening was lovely as completely quiet and the sky was filled with stars.The walk is along a dirt track so you might want to wear comfortable shoes.

Enjoyed our stay.

Tolle Lage und schönes Zimmer.
Leider haben wir erst während des Aufenthaltes von anderen Urlaubern erfahren, dass es kein Frühstück vor Ort gibt (familiäre Gründe) und wir uns somit, trotz dem dass wir inkl. Frühstück gebucht und gezahlt hatten, uns am nächsten Tag um Frühstück kümmern mussten. Vorab eine E-Mail/Info wäre toll gewesen, dann hätte man sich vorab schon informieren können.

Séjour au calme

Nous devions avoir une chambre vue sur mer et n’avons eu qu’une petite vue latérale. Nous avons demandé le changement mais on nous a dit que c’était complet. Le matériel de cuisine est sommaire et le lit moyen. L’accueil a été aimable et on nous a proposé de garder nos bagages le temps d’aller dans les gorges, et prendre une douche au retour. Attention : le petit déjeuner n’est celui affiché. Sinôn le resto est bon et l’endroit calme et agréable.

Super Hotel!

Waren nur eine Nacht dort und wollten am liebsten dort bleiben. Die Lage ist super der Strand ist traumhaft schön und die Apartment sind ausreichend groß. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten zu Fuß in ca 10 min
Zu erreichen aber schöne 10 min am
Strand entlang.

Petit paradis pour solitaires

Ici c'est un concentré de l'accueil et de la gentillesse des Crétois. Petit hôtel sans prétention offrant tout le confort attendu après les randonnées dans ce coin magnifique. Un peu à l'écart de l'agitation du village qui est le terminal de la randonnée dans les Gorges de Samaria. Cuisine traditionnelle simple mais exquise avec des produits locaux et même familiaux (miel, fromage que vous pouvez acheter). Prix très raisonnables et service client irréprochable. Nous regrettons de n'avoir pas réservé un séjour plus long mais nous reviendrons.

De kamers zijn niet echt nieuw, maar alles is er en het is proper.
Hun gastvrijheid is top, nooit meegemaakt.
De ligging is super, het hotel ligt helemaal apart maar op slechts 350 m. van het dorp.
Dit hotel is zeker een aanrader en wij gaan zeker terug.

Abseits von dem 'Hauptdorf', dass aufgrund seiner Lage ja eh schon einsam daliegt. Toller Blick direkt auf die Bucht, die Zimmer sind einfach aber nach einer anstrengenden Tour und einem guten Essen sehr gut.

Bei Ankunft gab es erstmal ein Bier aufs Haus vom Eigentümer, sehr bemühte und nette Leute.Uberraschend wie schlecht das englisch war, aber das ist egal gewesen.

Das Dorf ist aufgrund seiner Lage umd dadurch, dass Abends die meisten Touristen weg sind, nach der letzten Fähre eine kleine einsame Sensation, das Magic Corner ist nochmal 300m entfernt davon und dadurch fühlt man sich wie am Ende der Welt, im positiven Sinn. Wir waren in der nebensaison sogar ganz allein im Hotel, nichts als Meeresrauschen, ein Hammer.

Da konnten wir am nächsten Tag entspannt die Schlucht wieder hochgehen :-)

Отличные апартаменты в совершенно потрясающем месте. Советую отель всем уставшим от шума туристических мест. За фантастический вид с балкона и купание нагишом можно простить некоторую пошарпанность мебели и сантехники.
Завтрак и ужин можно заказывать на месте - хозяева превосходно готовят.
Имейте в виду, что расположение на карте этого сайта не соответствует действительности, на самом деле надо идти от парома влево 350м по песчаной дороге - если вы с чемоданами на колесиках-это не очень удобно. Позвоните в отель - вас встретят.
