A super relaxing resort

We found this resort was incredibly relaxing. Situated on a private bay. There was a short sandy beach with a rocky bottom. When tide was in water was about 4-5 ft. Perfect to float, swim or relax.
Breakfast was great as we have found at most mercure resorts. No shortage of tables so no morning rush.

Very good food alsi just on the road by the resort for variety.

Pool was nice. Not alot of chairs as on the beach. But i was surprised we always had a lounger or bean chair.

We had a ocean view room but because of trees planted view was obstructed but i preferred to have the shade instead of the view. It allowed a cool relaxing place to sit all day.

Room had an elevated bed with a bench at the end. As a person going into their sixties with a knee problem i would have preferred a regular height bed with a couch at the end.

The staff were awesome. They had massages at the poolside that we took everyday. Professional well trained and very reasonably priced. A great value. We did one hour oil massage for 450 baht every day.

The resort was nicely kept and was so peaceful. We came from a busier beach tye week before and loved it but this was a special kind of relaxation. We dod not do alot everyday just ate a beautiful breakfast, swam, massage relaxed but the pool and completely chilled out. It was such a relaxing hotel. Perfect escape from the hustle bustle of reality when you want to ho to a beautiful beach and recharge.

Villa pool room nice and well maintained, could do with larger TV and better light controls.
Clearly this property is still recovering from the COVID shut downs, does need better care of hedges, etc. which make the public areas behind the lobby look unkept.
Limited dining choices at resort and outside, this is a property best visited if you have transport or rent a motorcycle.

Luxury Stay on A Beautiful Beach

The Villa came with a private pool and jacuzzi. Big and spacious room, clean and cozy. Staff were very friendly, the cafe by the beach was great and since it was low season, the beach was peaceful, quiet and clean.

Pros- Travelling with young children I loved that I could sit in the shade near the beach cafe whilst they could play in the sand also in the shade. This was my absolute favourite thing. The pool near the beach was decent and a good temperature. The beach was protected and private and was good for digging and paddling. Breakfast buffet was very good and there was a good amount of seating and choices of food. Our room was a good size and light and airy. The hotel were very helpful when I had a problem with my car.
Cons- the shower temperature was temperamental and often cold, our water went off once totally and the toilet broke on another occasion. This was sorted quickly by the resort. The pool with pool access rooms was very cloudy and green, it seemed to have improved by the end of the week but we didn’t use this.

Overall I would definitely stay again, the staff at the resort were lovely and helpful, the beach and pool and setting were idyllic. My children loved it and didn’t want to leave!

Worth a visit

I was upgraded to a lovely pool villa. a great option for a family with one or two little ones. they can splash away in the small pool plus there's a jacuzzi to chill out in. The buffet breakfast had options for every palette. The property is definitely feeling the effects of a heavy rainy season, but that will not detract from your stay.

Excellent Hotel with super friendly and helpful staff. It is a bit in a remote location and you definitely need a motobike to be mobile. The beach isn't great so I recommend to drive to another one. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The price for drinks are a bit high (100 baht for a soda water and 150 baht for coffee).

The hotel is in a fantastic location right by a beautiful beach. The rooms look fabulous however it is a case of style over substance. The bed is on a platform which means that by the time you’re on the platform you’re effectively lying on the floor. Not much use at 3 am when you want to go for a Pee. Also there were no drawers in our room to store any of our clothes so we lived mainly out of a suitcase.

Ignore the haters.. This hotel is great. Room large spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Bit odd with a step near the bed. Tripped. On it a couple times. Spa in all rooms I believe and grest view. The restaurant offers a great breakfast and with a very large selection at hotel prices. Should have more than 1 person making omelette. Waiting is annoying. U can also go next door to Harley Moon. Best value and seriously good breakfast. Pool and outdoors are grest. Location is secluded but that's what makes it great 2ks down the road is lucky beach.. The party town. Thats where backpackers and people On super tight budget stay. Would I come back YES.

For the most part, I had a wonderful stay at Mercure. The staff were kind and welcoming and the resort amenities were as described and pictured. A couple of drawbacks that were frustrating: After upgrading to a ocean view room, the hot water in the shower was temperamental, despite multiple attempts by the staff to fix it. Additionally, on my last day, as I was checkin out, I learned that the van I scheduled to take me back to the airport had not in fact been booked as I had arranged for at the front desk 2 days prior, leaving me scrambling to find my way back to the airport. Tom, who was at the front desk at that time, was extremely unhelpful and completely unempathetic to the fact that one of his colleagues had made an error. All he offered was a private car that was quadruple the price.

All the good of Koh Chang lost in this resort!

All the good things that you come to Thailand for are lost in this resort. Poor service, not even a \"how was your stay?\" on departure. you can see by every generic response to past poor reviews in how things are treated at this resort. I am pretty sure a wooden floor has more give than the standard room mattresses. Having stayed at Aana resort and Nest Sense on this trip I would stay well away, as both far more superior and welcoming. The only + is the beautiful little restaurant next door Lisca. Be sure to experience as not many come close.

The staff were very friendly but management has work to do.

Kids loved the pool but the decking was in poor shape with loose boards and risk from splinters.

There was a patchy response to requests for room cleaning including room service plates left outside for over 24 hours.

I was not easy to manage two small children on the top floor without a lift.

Hot water flow was not consistent and potentially dangerous when washing children.

Food quality was disappointing but luckily we found nice restaurants close by.

You get the picture! Not what we expected at a Mercure hotel.

The initial standard room had no window! Yes you are reading this correctly, ok for a lightning business trip but not for anyone wishing to enjoy a holiday, unless of course you wish to emulate the “ Bangkok Hilton “ which is of course a nickname for the famous prison, the room being void of a window is not detectable on the website and is discribed as a “ resort view “ which in itself suggests a window is in existence, unless of course they want you to stand on a chair and look through the air vent !
Sadly our complaint fell on deaf ears as they failed to upgrade us without the normal heafty surcharge, even though we did get a complimentary drink voucher and a free breakfast ( which should be included anyway )
The fact the hotel failed to satisfy us means they will be reading this review, instead of something more positive.

The mercure was great. The staff and people there were really helpful. Be careful because they kind of nickel and dime you for little things. Also, the food and drinks are outrageously expensive and they do not allow you to bring outside drinks or anything to their pool area(just be discrete and you can get away with it though). The kayaks were a great plus and they are free to hotel guests(they only have three though, first come first serve). The free coffee and free cookies in the business room are great as well. Overall, great experience, would definitely stay here again, just don't get swindled by the food or drinks, right down the street are many great options(definitely go to Tamarin for food) within walking distance, and there is a beer and liquor store literally next to the hotel.

Beautiful property! Rooms are clean and comfortable and grounds are very nice. Two huge swimming pools and a small beach out front. Fast wifi.

The shower pressure was low - this would be my main \"complaint\" about the room.

The place is isolated. If you want a resort experience that is fine. However, the food and beverages offered at the hotel are average quality and priced high, which we found disappointing. There was one local restaurant across the street, but there are not a lot of options close by. I would recommend this place IF you really want to get away from it all.

Chilling at Bailan Beach Koh Chang

I was worried about this hotel because it had received so many poor reviews. I honestly don't know how you could give this hotel a bad review, it's just lovely. It's a low-key resort hotel in a backpacker beach area, quiet, clean, good beach, nice for swimming, the decor and style is interesting and relaxing. The staff are superb, I just loved them all, particularly the restaurant staff. I will definitely be returning.

This is a wonderful place to stay. I spent four days here with my son, and couldn't have been happier. Lovely, self contained resort has everything you need. Beautiful grounds and dining room, nice pool, massage available on the beach. Super family friendly as well.

Highest quality level at Koh Chang

Located in the southern, more relaxed part of the coast. We stayed at four different hotels, and this had the most fresh rooms.

You will need a motorbike or take taxi. Their restaurant is expensive, and their beach is not the best, but other options are five minutes drive away.

If the budget allows, stay here and make daytrips. Especially good if yu want to go out on islands.

Room was uncomfortable, the air Con despite being set at 18 degrees celcius NEVER managed to get below 23 degrees (even when left on all day!) Staff kept insisting it was fixed BUT IT CERTAINLY WAS NOT. So uncomfortable to sleep at night. The beach looks nice but sadly and surprisingly it is muddy and rocky. Resorts only a couple of hundred metres away have pristine white sandy bathing beaches. Food expensive and watch the bill, we had items added in error!

Upon arrival at the Mercure, my initial impression was that the outside of the hotel did look a bit like a motorway service station hotel. However once past this point, the rest of the hotel was immaculate and of a very high standard.
When initially booking, the photos shown on the internet suggested that the room was was going to back directly onto a large swimming pool. Unfortunately this was not the case, this was only on the more expensive rooms. The basic room did not have a balcony.
The swimming pool and beach setting of the Mercure Hideaway is spectacular and it was nice and peaceful to relax here.
The location of the Mercure Hideaway is on a quiet part of the island. There are several shops, bars and restaurants just outside the hotel. It's fairly cheap to eat and drink outside the hotel. The Mercure has a nice restaurant although this seemed fairly expensive. A cab to Kai Bae costs 100 baht each way. You can rent a moped from the hotel for 200 baht per day.
The Mercure Hideaway has a gym and spa. I used the gym which had some good equipment although the free weights didn't seem to go too heavy.
Overall, an enjoyable stay, a nice hotel in a quiet peaceful location.

Just beware the cheapest rooms are by the road and have locked frosted Windows. Construction noise can disturb your sleep. On the plus side the air con is tops and you only sleep in the room... The pool and beach are where it counts... Both of which are lovely. Chilled out bar Liska next place along on the beach plays great relaxed music

Hint: They know why their deals are non-refundable, If you have to go there, please make sure that it is refundable and includes breakfast, otherwise they will charge you daily 440Bath/person

The resort has definitely seen better days... Nevertheless The main common areas are tidy and clean, but the rooms ( at least the villas with private pool ) are not as expected... Dated horrible deco and extremely uncomfortable, starting with the sofa both inside and the one by the pool, and finishing with the Bathroom, low water pressure, not a proper door to have some privacy... We all need it at some point... And well there is no door. And very annoying the first thing you see walking to the villa is a kind of \"open space walking wardrobe\" again with no door to hide your mess, since there is no shelves or draws to put away your clothes... Just a bunch of hangers...
Very disappointing.
Whoever design the resort... Well done! Yellow tiles on the main pool? Really? Well guess what it looks like at 12pm sun shining and full of kids...

The staff is less than helpfull, waiters and cleaners are actually the most educated and well mannered, but reception ppl is unexplicably rude and even nasty...
If your passion is the beach this is not for you. The low tide leaves no beach at all, and many stones, not a proper sandy beach...

It's clear to see when staff moral is low, perhaps having a General manerger to lead and guide will assist the staff to a better job.
The staff were rude, unhelpful and just plan bored.

Shame really. Oh and poached eggs arnt that hard to cook, if you don't know how to do something don't offer them. Don't hash it and serve up rubbish.

Having a snooze after breakfast is fine, having a sleep in the breakfast resteraunt makes the place look untidy, still being there at lunch is just wrong.

Beautiful layout quiet and peaceful

Stayed for a few days, we had a poolside room which was amazing. It felt like we had our own private pool all to ourselves. We hired a scooter for $8 per day and set off touring the island. We stopped at many of the other hotels on the island and I would have to say that the mercure was by far the best.

great facility but lack of convinience

Stayed two nights in mid January 2014, got upgraded to Pool villa. Overall Service was good. Location wise it's in far south side of the island and took almost an hour from the ferry port by so called taxi (sangteu). IF YOU are planning to travel Koh Chang by flights (Bankkok to Trat), PLEASE make sure you reserve a transportation service to Bangkok airlines, They will provide you a miniban from Trat airport to any hotel in Koh Chang and it costs only 500 baht per person for one way... MUCH MUCH cheaper and convenient way (fyi, taxi from trat to port and ferry ticket 800 baht, on-island taxi 100baht)

Pool villa room is a must!!!

The Mecure is a lovely hotel, we stayed in a pool villa room which was amazing and private and so spacious, in fact it was so nice that we didn't leave the room on one day, choosing to stay and catch the sun in our own private garden, jumping into our little pool when it got too hot! The only negative for me was the service from some of the staff. As it is a large chain hotel they do not take payment for your food and drinks, you sign for it instead and pay your bill when you check out. This is fine, but the Mecure choose to add 10% service charge onto everything, and you have to pay this, even if you didn't find the service warranted the tip. This meant some of the staff were unhelpful and at times we were ignored when we asked for something, say a drink at the bar. They obviously do not feel they need to try and give good service as they are going to get their tip anyway. This I did not like, and found the service here to be the poorest we saw in all of the 8 different hotels we stayed in on and around Thailand. Shame really as the hotel itself is very nice. Location wasn't the best, though you can get taxis to take you around the island, these are pick-up trucks that are shared between you and up to 12 other passengers. Just stand on the side of the road and the taxi will pick you up and take you where you want to go. Make sure you arrange your fee with them before you get in!

Another Day in Paradise

This is my second review, as we had to check out of our gorgeous deluxe sea view room for one night, and into a standard room. Although the hotel amenities were just as fabulous -- minus the restaurant, which I mentioned in my last review -- the standard room was a bit more.. basic. More than that, the shower door did not close properly, meaning that all of the water from the shower head splashed straight out the open door & onto the bathroom floor. The shower was a bit moldy, and the room itself was dusty. I suppose all this wouldn't have bothered me, had there not been a chorus of very, VERY loud frogs outside our window for 8 hours in the night. No sleep makes me cranky.

Four Days in Paradise

The Mercure Hideaway is off the beaten track, which is exactly what we wanted for our romantic getaway. Our deluxe room with an ocean view was just that -- deluxe -- and the view was spectacular. Hotel staff is very friendly & helpful, though we didn't have a single problem to discuss with them. If you're hoping to stay in the \"party zone\" of Ko Chang, look elsewhere. There are lovely beaches here, and you're close to several good restaurants. Don't bother eating in the hotel restaurant; service is slow (and usually confused), food is uninspired, and prices outlandish. Instead, walk 5 min up the road for great, fresh seafood -- try the mussels! Even closer, The Happy Turtle serves both traditional Thai and western favorites; everything is delicious & well priced. Or try Italian on the beach (the owners are from Milan, and make a mean pizza) if you need a break from Thai food. This is a truly gorgeous beach and, aside from a jungle trek -- booked up the road at the Sweet Tours kiosk with an incredible guide who lives up to the name -- we never bothered to leave. Why would anyone leave paradise?

Bad Management

Due to we booked the room via this website for 5 rooms 2 booking no. , we have a right to stay at the hotel at that time but we cannot stay because the hotel manager in night shift said she did get my booking only one of two booking. She said she doesn't know another my booking. Even, I have the voucher in front of them but she didn't belive the printed voucher issued by hotels.com. Thus, the manager asked some of my family to stay outside. How was happenned??? I wish this will not happen to me and my family again managed by Accor Group.

luxury in a quiet town.

The hotel is very nice, we were very lucky to have a room that walked out to the pool which offered that little extra luxury. The room itself was very comfortable and we were very grateful for the guest flip flops as my husband did not have any and all shops and bars in the town require the removal of shoes. We did not bother eating breakfast here as it seemed very overpriced and there are enough good local options. If you want a beer by the sea we would also advise you just walk to the left of the hotel on the beach to a little beach bar, as the hotel again just prices itself to highly, even taking into account the expected inflated hotel pricing.

Nice relazing stay

Nice hotel, clean and well kept. The staff were lacking a bit of english for a 4 star perhaps, but nothing major, they were all very nice. Hotels.com messed up the reservation a bit, so they did not have the info on their end, but they upgraded us to make up for the inconvenience. Plenty of eating places nearby, can rent a bike on location, 2 min drive to another beach if you dont want to stay at their private one. Overall a very good experience.

Nice getaway

If you want a romantic and relaxing vacation this is the spot. The hotel is remotely situated, which makes it perfect for relaxing. It is, however, easy to get to the more happening places by renting a scooter. We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights, and was over satisfied with the superior service on the location. The only slightly negative remark, is the lack of maintanace of the bathroom in our room. The sink was very damaged and there was hardly any pressure on the hot water in the shower. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and the breathtaking scenery of the location.
