Room was just adequate. Was not as attractive as it was presented on Hotels.com. Hotel was very dated, tv was small and staticky and the breakfast was not hot. Pool did not seem well maintained.

Staff try their best but seems a lack of training, pool area needs cleaning,fake grass so worn out it’s becoming dangerous, leaves in the pool, tiles loose around the edge

Gym if you can call it that is just a few machines on a floor landing, no AC and not even sure they work

Hotel Bar is a permanent karaoke 🎤 hotspot and I mean from 13 noon

Room was basic and cleaned when I asked and felt safe no problem with my security or my belongings

Reception totally unprepared for me turning up

Photos make it look way much better than it was in reality

My flight from BKK to CNX was £165 which included the hotel for 8 days so that probably sits about right regarding what I experienced, however when there I searched a new hotel and found the exact stay for £300 at the same hotel

It’s a glorified hostel in my opinion and nowhere near the £300 a week mark

I also read that it had gone under renovation recently, flaking paint everywhere on the carpet and still clearly needs more to be done

Location was very good and the staff is very kind and accomodating. Bed comfortable.
Hotel is tired, no gym, the pool is in the shade and no one uses it. Pictures make it look nicer then it is. It also borders on a large stinky water causeway. We only stayed here as a last minute resort afor one night and booked another one for 4 nights.

Pleasant staff makes all the difference.
Although the hotel is not right in the Old City, it is at a walkable distance and away from the busy street of Ta Pae.
The hotel itself is quite dated and maybe going through some sort of lawsuit as there were a huge banner stating that the owner is no longer taking any responsibility for any incidents occurring within the facility. The website and contact number no longer works.

The rooms are larger and with a small balcony. The carpeted areas in the hallways need a good vacuum cleaning. A bit of a walk to get where actions are. Hot water with a bathtub is a plus.

The size of the rooms and the location were great but it stops there.The internet what internet was terrible and out dated.no internet was so ever at pool and area around pool dangerous.And next the breakfast what a joke if you from Thai maybe not to bad but from anywhere else do not bother it is horrible,much better to buy out of hotel and get something you can eat,have stayed in many hotels across many parts of thailand and by far the worst breakfast if you could call it that.

I really enjoyed my stay there, the staff were extremely helpful, especially making phone calls for me when my luggage did not arrive due to delay on flight. They said better if we speak in Thai to Thai person. Bed really comfatable, room cleaned to an excellent standard. Hotel a little bit away from the main parts of Chiang Mai but good for me because i enjoy walking about and there were always tuk-tuks to transport me. Breakfast was excellent

Great spot to stay just outside the Old City

The building and room were a little dated but lots of space and very quiet. Hotel staf was friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast in the morning had both North American and Thai dishes which made for a great start to the day. Also, 2-5 minute walking distance to the old city.

We had high hopes for this hotel as the pictures made it look quite nice. Those photos were misleading as this is a very run down hotel, poorly lit, dirty place and certainly not worth the money they charge for the room. The room was more than adequate as was the breakfast.

Upon check-in, was told that room with double bed is not available, thus was assigned with a two single bed room, ok fine. (although i wonder why is this my problem since the booking was made 3 months ago). The room seems like it has been vacant for quite a long time, some weird smell, a little bit dusty wardrobe, and there is no floor mat and towel in the toilet. Given the rate I paid, I would tolerate this rather old condition room (the other room of my friends is in better condition), wouldnt say it is a good bargain though :)

Old hotel, not well maintained.

Hotel was old, and not well maintained. The swimming pool area is especially run down, with broken slats of wood and nails sticking out.
Gym is outside, full of mosquitoes
Even on the last floor there was so much traffic noise we felt like we were sleeping on the motorway, and all the rooms doora were creaking when guests were opening them.
Breakfast was so so, not really 4 stars, but then neither is the hotel.
It's a good half hour walk from the city centre, better to use grab or uber.

Sadly its not so royal!

The staff here are joyful! A few of the reception staff have very good English. The lady who gives info about CM attractions is very knowledgeable & helpful.
There are often tuk tuk & Songtaew outside the hotel, which makes it easy to travel.
Breakfast is meh & they serve the same everyday. We stuck to fruit & rice. We moved rooms 3 x. The first room had some hotel guests aka 2 x gheckos that came crawling out of the air-con when we were settling in. Staff couldn't catch them to get them out so they shifted us. The 2nd room was nice with a bigger fridge, sadly the air-con did not work. You need air-con as its very hot. The 3rd room was very tired & felt quite dirty. On the 2nd to last night whilst sitting on the toilet, another ghecko came crawling out of the roof! Its quite common for ghecko to come out esp near light, but I'm not sure the problemactually gets dealt with. We ended up shifting hotels and we wanted better location to everything even though we had paid for another 5 days . We felt we had gotten our moneys worth so faulking out a couple of hundred dollars more was a better option for us.

The pool is ok for a little splash around, the gym lacks good working equipment however.

Don't expect more from the price.

Don't expect a 4-5 star quality hotel especially for the price. The building is dated with just enough amenities to make it functional. We stayed here for only a short 1 night. Breakfast was just about standard so don't be surprised if they run out of food or the meat seems cheap. This hotel is for short transit stays so don't expect 5 star cleanliness, service, or amenities. The room was clean but insects (we had small ants, and were welcomed into the hotel by a dead cockroach) can still enter. The staff are helpful to a degree but are limited in speaking English. The fridge, microwave, TV, and water heater are somewhat new and relatively unused.

You can see this hotel would have been nice about 20 years ago. It is still comfortable, spacious and was clean, but overall it is quite rundown. The 3.5 star rating is maybe a bit ambitious given it's current state. The staff were not particularly friendly, and were not helpful at all when trying to arrange a taxi or tuk tuk, quoting prices over double what we actually paid when we worked it out on our own. Overall it was decent value, and definitley nice enough, just don't have your expectations too high.

The hotel is in good condition. Air con worked well and room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and spoke English well. Boo Boo the in house tour agent was very knowledgable, friendly and spoke great English. For any tour bookings definitely go see her in the lobby. Pool was nice, not enough chairs but clean and cool. They have bag storage and will let you use the facilities when waiting for check in or after check out.

Dingy and outdated but more than adequate

The room was very dark and dingy, making it hard to see all our belongings and whether or not it was clean. The bathroom had mosquitos. The overall feel was tired and outdated.

We were given 2 bottles of water a day and no more than this, unless we bought drinks via room service or the hotel restaurant. Food and drinks at the hotel were pricey in comparison to most places in the city centre and local area.

The pool is very small and gets limited shade throughout the day.

The tours desk was actually very helpful (Boo in particular gave very good advice) and we booked a fabulous thai cooking class and sustainable elephants trip here.

We also rented bikes one day from town and this meant the journey from the hotel to town was just under 10 minutes. The hotel were happy for us to chain the bikes up in the car park overnight.

Dated, but good location/friendly staff

Check in was easy and quick. They were helpful and friendly. Location was good too, however it was a 5/10 min walk into the old city depending on you're pace. The room we were in was massive however it was really dated. Shower was almost a trickle and was very slippy. Bathroom had quite a lot of mould around the sink. The pool was well maintained, only a few broken wooden slates around the decking area. Nevertheless I'd definitely stay here again.

We were horribly disappointed with our stay here and surprised Travelocity included this hotel on its list. We were forced to switch 3 rooms within the first 12 hours. The \"no smoking\" policy is clearly not enforced as we immeditely had to request a new room the moment we stepped into the initial room we were given. The second room seemed fine (no cigarette smell) until I awoke at 4:30 am to the sound of water dripping. The air conditioner had leaked all over the couch, wall, our bags and the floor soaking everything. We went to the front desk and were told that no one would be able to help us until the English speaking staff arrived at 7:00am. Clearly that was not acceptable so we took the man on duty to our room, at which point he called a hotel maid to clean the water with our towels, and expected that to be ok. It wasn't. We wanted a new room, which we were finally given, but all of our clothing was completely saturated and that was never addressed by the hotel.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the city center. You can take a taxi to the night bizarre for about 60 Baht (2$). Overall, the hotel was very nice and spacious for the price, however, don't expect top of the line amenities as the hotel is dated.

Very pleased with our choice of hotel,

The one problem I had is that the hotel was a little distance away from the Square as I have some difficulty in walking
Especially with the high curbs & rough pavements. The hotel is a little tired looking needs a plan of graduale improvement within the maintenance team.
I can't say enough for the hotel staff even the manager would ask at regular times how things were.
Would recommend The Penninsular Hotel anytime , but you would need better fitness levels than I have.

Older style hotel very much showing its age. Lobby not air conditioned and prone to mosquitoes. Our room was very dark and gloomy with no proper window in the living area. Bedroom had a balcony but was glassed in so no fresh air! Bathrooms very old and in need of attention. Daily clean was very poor with tiled floors seeming not to be cleaned. Towels not properly cleaned and often stained. Food was very ordinary. The hotel is very much a budget hotel but I think you can get better value for the money in Chiang Mai for this level of hotel.

Price is main attraction

Lived in Chiang Mai for a year and have stayed in approximately 6 different hotels. My primary criteria from most important to least important are: price, location, gym, breakfast, and staff attentiveness to needs.
1. Best price I've found in CM for large room in which everything ( air, wifi, etc.) worked.
2. About 15 minute walk from Taipae Gate. You'll probably need a tuktuk late at night (100 baht) coming back from night bazaar.
3. Gym had two old stationary bikes, weight machine, and 2 elipticals. No mats, fans, treadmill,or free weights.
4. Breakfast was pretty good with some Thai and foreign food though no extras like bacon or yogurt. Got repetitve though as we stayed for 9 days and it didn't change much.
5. Everything was handled though I did my own laundry nearby b/c it was going to be a couple of days through hotel.

I would stay again as I liked the place, it was quiet (most of the time) and the view across to Doi Suthep was the best part.
The hotel is tatty in places, the decking around the pool is dangerous and rotten and the 'gym' is really poor. But the room size and view made it worthwhile.

The staff are unfriendly, unhelpful, and incompetent! The rudest people we encountered in Chiang Mai work at this hotel. Our first night in the suite, we ran out of hot water, our power went out, and we discovered the sink didn't drain. The standard room that we went to the next night was not as described. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

For the price we paid we were very happy (approx $17usd per night including breakfast). We had a double room on the 2nd floor with a balcony that overlooked the pool and the not so pleasant canal!
It's a little out of the main square so it's a 10 ish minute walk to get to the start of the shops and restaurants but that's the only negative. The hotel itself is clean, a little dated but has everything you could need-pretty good wifi, air con, a comfy bed with clean bedding, daily housekeeping, a fridge, free bottled water and helpful staff. The breakfast was from 6-10am and was a buffet including tea, coffee, juices, fresh fruit, salad items, toast with butter, jam etc and then both western and Asian hot options including sausages, ham, fried eggs, pancakes, French toast, noodles, rice and vegetables.
We walked pretty much everywhere, even to the night market which was only 25mins or so away so you don't have to use tuk tuks if you don't want to but equally there are always tuk tuks and red taxi vans outside if you would rather not walk.
Overall a good choice and a bit more luxurious that many other places at this price

wonderful, friendly staff full of recommendations (Jenny is the best). super soft bed and massive room. great ac. fantastic pool for cooling off. all of this for only 500bht+tax a night! great location too.
