I enjoyed the uniqueness of the property. It was old, but the room was clean and spacious. The internet was a little slow, but the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was not grand--but certainly sufficient. It may not be as posh as some other places, but fair enough--it's less expensive.

Room and false advertising in description and pictures. Room said it was queen bed and it was only a double. There were zip ties for a lock for the doors to the adjoining room. Bathroom sink was plugged and barely drained.
The main room light didn’t work. Only 1 head light above the right side of the bed to light the entire room.
Also there was no parking, the back parking lot was not ploughed and the front parking lot was full from locals visiting the pub in the hotel as there was live music. No parking for actual hotel guests.
I DO NOT recommend staying at this hotel.

Checked in and went to room to find that keys did not work. Walked all the way back to front desk and waited to be served again. Was given new keys, only to find out that room was not cleaned from the last customer that stayed in it. Bed was unmade with garbage and was still on the night stands.
Very bad experience, we instantly returned to the front desk, waited for an attendee and insisted on cancelling our stay.
Not a great day, sudden death in family and after traveling all day to have this happen.
We are waiting for our refund electronically! My mourning wife was too upset to wait at the time.

The whole place was a no go for me . I booked it as it says best western location boy was I fooled . This room is worth maybe 50 a night . Walks in the smells in place was unbelievable. Then gets upstairs they hallway was gross ladder in middle of walkway just all around I would never book this place again not even for 50 a night . When flush toilet the chain was let go broken so had lift that up just flush the toilet. Feet sticking up to floor stay away

The room felt like the furniture was collected from a dorm room. The mice traps up and down the hallway was a little scary. The food for breakfast had a small variety and you had to fiqure out on your own where everything was. The staff were friendly but not very helpful.

Very low quality hotel. Poor breakfast. Room was furnished like a dorm room. High price. Charged double for our stay and could not get a good result from manager (said they couldn’t find the extra charge in their system). Had to contact credit company. This is taking up a lot of time to resolve. Do not book this hotel.

One of the two rooms I rented was not for guests. We were moved to the nun harbor view side of the hotel and promised a credit. The credit was not issued upon checkout. I was told to call back and and given the name of an individual with whom I should speak. I called and was told someone would call me back. Several days later I called again. This time I was instructed to email the problem to the hotel. I did. Again, no response.

Reserved a room with queen size bed, received a room with a double bed and a non-working TV, was advised it was the last room available. I must add that the staff on the Saturday & Sunday evening did actually try to fix the TV, but it was the desk person who moved us to a room with an actual queen size bed and working TV, our last night (Sunday) of a 4 night stay.

Don’t let the association with Best Western mislead you!!! The property looks fair from the outside but inside is different. Oh, where to begin?

The checkin was likely the best part of the experience. The beds aren’t especially good, the ceiling has been repaired and looks dodgy. The towels are so thin, mildew on the plastic shower curtain. No coffee in the room, no kettle or a tea bag. Fridge worked and has a large freezer.

Breakfast— the chafing dish wasn’t turned on or something as the eggs, hot dogs (yes- hot dogs) and potatoes wedges were cold. So there was at least cereal, muffins and yogurt and coffee.

We booked through Expedia, should have just walked up in person to examine the room. But after hours travelling we wanted to have a place to just get into. The front desk staff were at least receptive and apologized for our experience. They brought out a person, maybe the manager; no introduction given. After discussing the situation , she was not willing to give any resolution. We really don’t have much recourse but will be reaching out to Best Weatern and NS Health.

I arrived at 10:00 pm and there were men on the front porch smoking heavily. First room I was assigned had mold in the bathroom. Second room had sticky bathroom floors and dirty blankets. Both were on the bottom floor.

I asked to be switched again and was told it would be 30 minutes to clean another room and the TV won’t work.The third room I entered on the main floor seemed clean enough. Blankets and pillows were very thin. Noises from people upstairs could be heard all night.

I checked out at 6:00 AM and asked the front desk if something can be done about the rigamaroll I was put through. Staff replied “I’m just a random night worker I can’t give discounts.”

This room was very spartan and not very nice even for the price of $169. This is end of October and beginning of off season .. other hotels were the same price. Should have shopped around.
Being a best western we were surprised. It needs a reno or charge less. TV did not come easily .. needs instructions.

Don't stay here. Worst place ever. Full of insects and vermin. The staff are awful. I'd rather sleep in a dumpster than visit this place. Avoid at all cost. The place should be shut down and demolished.

Apparently due to an issue in kitchen, we arrived to no food, coffee, plates or mugs. Very disappointed...however, an effort was made for all who were there for breakfast and coffee and fresh food came after a 15 minute wait. There were just 2 bath towels , one hand towel and 3 wash clothes for 3 women! Bed was comfortable room was clean. Staff were very nice.

Barely any breakfast options. Our bathroom door would not close. They were supposed to fix it, they didn’t. Also when booking, I specifically booked a room with a sofa bed as we are a family of 5. Our room did not have a sofa bed. Someone was supposed to get back to us on that. Never heard back from anyone. The stairway smelled extremely bad. The room looks like they were painted by toddlers. Fridge handle was falling off. Our beds were not made, rooms not cleaned. We were there for two nights

Definitely the worst experience in the last 20 years of travel. The guy on reception (Amir? Amit?) was really good - but that was the only good thing in there.
The place is old, trushy and smells terrible. They try to renew some surfaces but so far it doesn't help. Miserable bed, tiny room and primitive breakfast - all for the price of good budget hotel. Housekeeping forgot to give us shower towels (I had to walk to the receiption: phone doesn't work, too).
It was my mistake. Don't do that.

Hotel needs an overhaul. Although clean, the tiny bath towels were each stained. The bed frame was poking through the floor which had cardboard pieces under the beds. The fridge didn't work and the tv remote only changed channels but did not work for power or volume. Beds were saggy. Breakfast was average but the sausages were undercooked. I would not stay again.

We liked the location, the room was clean, convenient and easy to find. There was no coffee maker. And there was only one small garbage container in the bathroom. The bed sheets. We’re really wrinkled - not sure why. The place needs a good amount of maintenance and upkeep if they want to keep the property in good condition.

The property is well kept up for its age and is in a good location for walking the city waterfront.

There were 5 of us and we were comfortable in the family room with 2 double and 2 twin beds, which is great for a larger family.

Breakfast was as good as any we’ve had with lots of selection and seating.

The room was very hot and quite old thought clean No air Booked water view but that's a misnomer The window to that view is across the hall from the room. Check in was smooth until I saw two charges on my credit card when there should have been one. They fixed it after much conversation and said it was because they were being bought by Best Western.

They do have some slots there and interesting antiques in the front room. The hotel is older but well maintained. We liked it here.

I will start by acknowledging friendly desk staff. Night desk staff was helpful to a point, by coming to the room and turning on a very old tv, for which the remote only half worked.
The hotel lobby and restaurant area was not very clean and extremely dated decor and smelled of cigarette smoke. Our room had equally dated decor and was very dirty. Towels and sheets appeared clean, but old and yellowed from over use. The room smelled of smoke from other guests just in outer hallways smoking. Room walls and ceilings had lots of patchwork apparent under the paint. Under each bed in the rooms, was a piece of plywood screwed to the floor, for reasons I’d rather not think about. My partner joked that’s to cover up the blood from the crime scene. Joking aside, that’s the vibe the room gave off.
I would NEVER stay at this hotel again. The only reason we did stay, after checking in, was our prior arrangements for accommodation changed and this was the only hotel with rooms available, as a musical festival was playing over the weekend.

Front desk girl was very helpful and kind.
The floor in the room was all in pieces. Kept stabbing our toes. The power went out in the room for about 15-20 mins. The tv did not work the whole stay. The owner of the hotel refuse to do anything to help or to even give us a break on the price. I had two rooms booked with them. I will never return to this hotel and if anyone was to ask us about the hotel, we would recommend not going there.

Great hotel!

Great location and stay. Rooms are renovated with all new TV, fridge, microwave, and bathroom. Tub is wide and deep (good for soaking in). Breakfast was really good with hot scrambled eggs, sausages, and potatoes and Tropicana orange juice (which I like). Views from the room and the breakfast area looked out over the harbor. Would definitely stay here again.

Not the nicest, i get its an old building but the electrical outlets werent secure, and would move into the wall when i went to plug something in. The towels in the bathroom were more of a large hand towel then a bath towel. I woke up to a bug of some sort in my bed. Very much hoping it wasnt bed bugs. The only highligh was the wonderful yound lady at the desk upon check in she recommended a great restaurant for us to go to for supper.

It smelled terrible and you can’t open the windows. They are all sealed shut and for egress you need to go out the door and walk down a long enclosed porch. It’s a death trap. Bathtub so filthy we wore our water shoes in the shower. Shower curtain had orangy pink mould growing on the bottom. We had family suite and one of the beds collapsed when our son just sat on it. Air conditioning was not working

They have tried to spruce it up some however they are lacking in some areas. The air conditioning needs to be better. The beds are quite hard. The room are clean and the cleaning staff are great. The restaurant is not existent. Breakfast is not very good. The location is good on the water but without being able to go on the patio it doesn’t help the ambiance.

Security Deposit Concern

While I checked into a three-night stay at Hotel Harbourview Inn and Suites, the front desk insisted on promptly debiting my credit card with the explanation that Expedia does not generally do so. I received a simple explanation that it is their policy while other places have none and that I would receive an immediate refund on checking out.

Unfortunately, when I checked out, the front desk was inconsistent and stated that the refund would be given to me later in the day when another worker reports in.

After 48 hours of patiently waiting for this refund, I needed to email a reminder to the inn.

My credit card account finally received the full security deposit refund about 55 hours after checking out.

Otherwise, my stay at Hotel Harbourview Inn and Suites was generally okay.
