Not the Ritz, but comfortable and reliable!

The Antelope Lodge is an older hotel, but it's always clean and comfortable. The hot water works fine (it just takes a minute to warm up), and the A/C is fantastic, which is exactly what you need in the summer when it hits 100 degrees. It’s a nice, quiet spot that gets the job done. To top it off, the staff has always been great to deal with.

I thought I knew I was getting with Antelope Lodge, a clean room with functioning amenities for a budget price. The upside down dead cockroach in the bathroom was a bummer, as was the non-working television. Is $87/night too much to expect for a room with no dead cockroach, a working tv, and an actual human at the front desk to help you fix the tv? Yes, apparently, according to the faceless, anonymous owners of Antelope Lodge who left no help phone number. How much effort would have been required to check the room before my arrival to remove the cockroach corpse and fix the tv? Too much effort, according to the owners of Antelope Lodge.

I had been here years ago and loved it. First, my room was listed as the last available. There were only 3 or 4 cabins occupied. It had not been remodeled and I paid $150 for what should be a $50 room. I didn’t see a gift shop. There was one years ago. The kitchen light did not work, the refrigerator was not on and smelled bad. There were burrs stuck in the throw rug and one stuck in my foot. The beds were not bad.
Had the room not been listed as the last available, I would have waited til arrival and after seeing the place and avoided a ridiculous charge. Oh, I forgot to mention a window had been taken out and cemented over without painting inside the room. There was a huge American flag mostly covering the patch. Needless to say, I will not be back and do not recommend to anyone.

BEWARE! The online photos are fake and the reviews are bogus! Do not stay here!
Office upon arrival—-lights off, no AC, a “night of the living dead” person didn’t even speak, so I said my name. He went outside, came back with a key and the only 2 words he ever uttered were “cabin 2”. Cabin 2 met us with a plunger by the front door. Inside was quite a nightmare. No way to ask for another room as the place was closed at this point. Bathroom door broken—has a gate latch that doesn’t close all the way, floors filthy and covered in sticker burrs, spiders in the bathroom, the soaps and shampoos were obviously refilled-not new-and dirty and stuck to the glass shelve. The TV was falling off the wall, there was a hole in the front door and the back of the door was covered in some sort of dirt (bug dirt?). Multiple spider webs in room. The positives were the fridge and microwave were clean and operational, the bed wasn’t really comfy but seemed to be clean, and the AC worked. We were immediately looking for other hotel rooms even though we had prepaid for 2 nights. Unfortunately—April in this area is a big time for visiting Big Bend, so there was nothing to be had. We seriously considered sleeping in the truck… The reviews and photos I saw before booking sure look good, but they are very deceptive. Buyer beware!!

My go-to place when riding through west Texas. It’s pretty basic, but I can park my bike right out by the room. Fire pit for after dark. Basic amenities in an old school motor court type place.
I would say if you’re into vibe and nostalgia, rather than making waffles in the breakfast area, give it a shot.
It’s not for everyone. But I really enjoy it.

The design of the property was done with care, but the staffing unfortunately didn’t live up to the same level. I never got the code to get the key. Theres no one at the property and calls to the number provided never got a response. It’s right on the road, so if you’re unlucky enough to be in a cabin at the front you’ll have no protection from the sound. That said, the room itself was comfortable with great amenities. If they improved the management it would be a real gem.

I would not stay there again. The property is so run down it’s hard to know if it’s clean or not. The grounds are mostly dirt. The refrigerator was new and worked well. The bathroom door closed with a magnet. It needed more than tender, loving care!

Very old and rustic. Several live spiders in the bed, not a huge deal, very old, plumbing rigged together, loud window unit AC, place was fine for the night, nothing to get excited about. Check in was manual key box, had to call to get live person to come to let us into stand alone room. Price point should be about $40 less. Overall okay.

My room with private bath and kitchenette was very nicely decorated and clean. These are older structures which is part of their charm. This is West Texas after all. A/C and heating unit kept the interior very comfortable. Some days were hot, some cold during my visit. I was able to prepare microwave food items and keep fruits and vegetables fresh in the little fridge. Amenities include great ground coffee, dish soap and sponge, ice bucket and bathroom toiletries. Pillows have dust mite covers which I really appreciate. Bed was comfortable and there was a cute little dining table and chairs. Great pricing on Expedia for my six night stay.

Do not let the pictures fool you!
I stayed for 8 days and had to leave for a job site at 8 am. Because the office wasn’t open until 9 am, and the hanging card to request maid service was missing it wasn’t until the 3rd day that I was able to get to the office to request a tag and tell the manager about the conditions below.

Cons
Dust and dirt on floors, walls, entry door, and walls.
Thorns in rugs.
Toe or fingernail clippings were on the room floor when I arrived.
After maid service, some grime on the floor, the pubic hair that was embedded in urine around the toilet, a dirt on the entry door and blinds that were all present when I arrived, still remained.
WiFi was so slow that photos in web pages took minutes to load.

I am a person who doesn’t get upset when things aren’t spic and span, and my partner is almost as forgiving as I am. I was relieved that she wasn’t with me.

Lastly, my stay was from Monday before Easter through the following Monday. Only a small fraction of the cottages had vehicles present on any given day, so there was plenty of time for my unit to be properly cleaned.

This property was opened in 1950 (says so on the sign) and it is a vintage property. Don't expect all the perks that you get at a chain hotel. The room was very clean. There is a small (no vanity or bathtub) bathroom, a little kitchen area with a sink, small fridge and microwave, and coffee/coffee maker. TV worked fine, there was a small table and 2 chairs in the room. Bed was comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and parking was right outside the door. Staff was not always in the office; we had a small issue and just ended up telling the person in the office about it as we left (the sign said \"closed\" but there was a vehicle parked in front so I went in). We would stay here again. It costs much less than the chain hotels in town. If you just want somewhere to sleep/shower and have a cup of coffee it's great.

I started staying at the Lodge 10 years ago. Once a year my ex and I would ride our Harley for our anniversary weekend and stay at the Antelope Lodge with excitement. We loved how they use to keep the property clean, rooms very nice with a very relaxing atmosphere. Apparently since I last stayed there, over five years ago, the property has changed ownership a few times. It has gone down hill unfortunately. About the only thing I can that was pleasant was the bed. It was very comfortable, but we had been riding our motorcycle all day, so I’m sure we could have slept on the ground just as easily.
The outside had lost its visible caricature for the most part. The landscape is very dry and full of goat head stickers. Yah, they suck as bad as they sound. The TV didn’t work so we wound down by watching TV off my iPhone. The floor, well, since they pulled up whatever was down, carpet or tile, it was not very clean feeling for sure.
Other than that, it still is a quiet place to stay and I love the nostalgic atmosphere and history.
With this said, next year we won’t be staying there unless they make changes. Hope they don’t go out of business and close. Seems they may be heading that direction.

Had slight problem checking in but the woman at the end of the phone was very helpful and got me in immediately. Definitely a good value for the price. These rooms are mostly very old duplex cottages. So one would expect aged construction. In our cottage everything was clean and in decent condition. Trash had not been removed from waste receptacles. Hot and cold water reversed in the bathroom sink. Heating and cooling unit was noisy. But the place has an old motel charm one sees along historic highways of.the USA.

My wife unlocked the door and went in and their were shoes by the bed and suitcases and bags in the room. We tried calling the number four times to inform them and see if they had another room. I like a quirky motel more than most folks, but I want to know ahead of time. It's billed as a lodge, but creative photography hides the fact that it is really a 1950 motor court. Other than that, the only real issue was the condensate pump on both of the mini-split units screamed all night. As dry as this part of Texas is, you can probably eliminate the condensate pump all together.

Nice pet-friendly spot and close to dining options in Alpine. We enjoyed a two night stay. I cannot rate staff as we never encountered a staff member. We used a lock box to access and return our room key. It’s about an hour and 45 minutes to the heart of Big Bend National Park, but the drive is lovely. Our only issue was that the shower did not work on our second day; it worked just fine our first morning there. If you are like fancy digs, this is not the place for you but, overall, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Misleading photos: The photos shown on Expedia do not reflect the current condition of the property. The lodge is nowhere near the state presented in the pictures. These may be photos from when the place first opened, but at present everything feels old, worn out, neglected, and in clear need of major renovation.
Interior & cleanliness: Upon entering, the overall impression is not pleasant. The furniture, floors, kitchen, and bathroom are heavily worn, which creates a general feeling of uncleanliness, even though I believe basic cleaning is done. However, the cleaning itself is careless – dust has accumulated in corners over a long period of time, and the refrigerator was dirty upon arrival.
On a positive note, the bed linen and the shower were clean.
Wi-Fi & services: The Wi-Fi is unreliable – sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. The reception is not operational; check-in and check-out are contactless, which would be acceptable, but combined with the lack of maintenance and support, it adds to the feeling of neglect.
Outdoor areas: The outdoor area has a lot of potential and could be very pleasant, but it is currently poorly maintained. With some basic care and upkeep, it could become a really nice space.
Value for money: The price is completely unjustified given what is offered. Considering the misleading photos, the overall condition, and the level of comfort, the accommodation does not deliver value for the price paid.

Appreciate walking into the smell of clean. Cute concept with the vintage vibe. Beds are super comfy . You have hot shower amd a new working heat and AC system. All the important things to make a cozy stay. Understand when you rent that these are old and primitive buildings , but have everything you need to sleep cozy. Also, bring house shoes and leave your shoes at the door to avoid tracking in devil thorns . This just comes with TX visits.

Office was closed when we arrived to check in at 3 pm. Luckily a property attendant showed up to get our key. No one gave us an overview of the property, so we were not made aware of shared amenities. One day our room was not cleaned even though we put a maid service sign on the outside door. Rooms come with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and Dish network TV. AC fan speed was a little underwhelming.We had to keep hitting the Turbo setting to cool down the room.

Place was cute but not well lit. We arrived at night and couldn't find our room. There were picker bushes all over the place. Place was nice and clean but definitely needs some updating and some modernization. Bathroom way too tiny. Ok if youre a midget or a small person but other than that very small. No parking places so we just parked outside our room. I sure hope that was okay. I dont think I'll be back here again. It was okay for one night.

Although the Antelope Lodge was Definitely Retro 1950’s Vibe ….. It Needs to be Better Kept and More Comfortable. The property NEEDED the Courtyard Grass Mowed and sprucing up. The clerk had No Personality and Offered No information other than our room # and that the door locked behind us. The Bed was Horribly Uncomfortable and very low to the floor. The bath Linens were Nice. Retro Refrigerator & Microwave were nice. Coffee in Room was Enjoyed. AC Worked Great. Bathroom is Tiny but Manageable even though you had to sit on Toilet Sideways. Biggest issue was No Rest due to Uncomfortable Bed 😩. Should have cost less for what it is. Wish it was Better Kept and Bed was Better. It was like going back in Time.

Check in is easy and fast, the room is quaint clean and quiet. Our cabin was #22 toward the back of the property, we could not see the courtyard. Enjoyed the peace and quiet clean and comfortable bed. It felt like an Air B&B. The porch had dusty chairs and the grass was way tall, needed to be cut. If we had been staying longer it would have made a big difference, There is a barbecue grill and picnic table, but then again tall grass and weeds at the time we went would have made a negative rating. Even though our check in was brief, the desk clerk could have told us where the ice machine was, and if we needed anything to let us know contact info etc. the room did have a laminated sheet with info who to call.
The remote control to the tv was different, my husband had to reach above and turn on the box for the signal. At check in I noticed a stand up cooler where some alcoholic beverages were available to sell. I guess, the clerk didn’t expound on anything he just handed us the key and gave us directions to the cabin. There are twin lights on each side of the bed, one light was out. Overall the stay was a nice cozy room and very comfortable beds. ps. Because it is an older court. You do have to allow the water to run awhile before you get hot water. Not complaining just informing. lol.

Old property, old fixtures. None of that really bothered me or was uncomfortable. What made the stay unenjoyable was the noise the mini split AC made. A loud hum/whistle that would not go away. We tapped on the case, adjusted the air flow and fan direction, but nothing worked. Had to get up in the middle of the night and just turn it off it was so loud. Couldn’t sleep until it was off, and then only until it got hot again.

The reviews and the state of this room are not as advertised. Coffee machine has used filter with used coffee in it. The cold water when turned on causes the pipes to rattle. I arrived after hours and it was easy to get my key. However, the area lighting was poor and it was hard to find my cabin. The room is cute and has everything you need should you like in room DIY dining. The delicious coffee was a great way to start my day and I was glad I didn't need to go looking for a good brew.

Like walking into the past!

This is an authentic motor inn, like walking into the past. If you expect modern five star accommodations then choose another motel. This was a quaint, clean, historic room. It did have plenty of outlets for modern electronics and a TV. But the board games provided in the lobby were more fun.

It was an old school lodge and was cool but no staff to be helped by. Gave good instructions to self check in and check out. Shower head wasn’t strong water and outdated and slightly dirty but it’s because it’s an old establishment

Antelope Lodge was definitely NOT worth the nightly US$ 125 rate. While the room, bedding & towels appeared clean, the Lodge was very out-dated, generally shabby and needed updating / modernizing. Inside, the room there were exposed electric cables on the walls, light fittings that did not work and the room needed redecorating with new plaster and paint. Outside, the grounds were untended and untidy. We saw broken fences and old metal and wooden yard furniture that needs replacement. Overall, a very unenjoyable one-night stay and we will not return.
