The hotel needs to update the bathroom’s shower doors, the floors by toilet is leaking water, older wooden furnitures making noise s when we are used it. It’s very economical uses of electricity conservation. The food is very good buffet breakfast with many choices.

The hotel is great, but alas, the entire area was empty of people. Simply, no tourists (November).
Breakfasts were phenomenal, cleaning was great, air condition was not that great and often we felt cooked at night. overall, highly recommended.

Wouldn't bother

Arrived during coronavirus worries so very empty hotel and you would have thought the hotel would have been keen to have tourists. However I had the usual Seaview debacle. I booked a Seaview and they were so many rooms available. I was given a bridgeview and was then offered a charge to have a Seaview which I refused to pay. Eventually got given one of the many of the sea view rooms. Ask for a late check-out and they wanted to charge almost the equivalent of a whole night even though the hotel was barely occupied. Was offered 2 hours for free. Customer care completely lacking, all about taking your money

Underwhelmed. 1 or 2 nights max.

We were a little disappointed with the overall experience at the Halong Plaza hotel. It was off to a poor start when the driver we had organised through the hotel to transfer us from the airport was falling asleep at the wheel! When we raised with the hotel they said it was an external service and so nothing to do with them. I asked to speak to reception manager and he did eventually apologise and upgraded us to the 12th floor and a nice view of the bay, which was appreciated. Lovely view of the rainbow bridge which is beautiful at night.
Very little options for food in the daytime as everything closed in the vicinity so we used hotel restaurant but were disappointed with mistakes in the order e.g. I ordered chicken with banana and bacon which came plain. When I asked they said they were out of bananas and presented a side plate of cold bacon. Unimpressed.
We tried the bar for happy hour and asked for their advertised 'cocktail of the week', a simple mojito, and the woman behind the bar didn't know what one was so we had spirit and mixer instead for ease.

The area is practically a ghost town (we do appreciate Sept is not peak season) and very few people around, we were glad we only booked 2 nights. The hotel did help us organise the Halong bay boat tour which was stunning and reasonable price. A real highlight.

Good size pool and extensive gym.

The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable. The rainfall shower was very basic and lacked power, nothing special.

This is a beautiful property ruined by HORRIBLE management. I cannot tell you how much the Halong Plaza Hotel seeks to rip off its customers. They cancelled excursions after I booked and paid for them. After their screw up caused me to change my vacation plans, they charged me for a night that I did not say....even though it was their fault. I had laundry done and it cost MORE than any hotel I have ever stayed at in my life. ALMOST $10USD per piece. The front desk manager is the worst I have ever met in my 40 years of travelling. NOTE: I have NEVER given a HORRIBLE rating in my life to any hotel......Halong Plaza has earned that reputation!

An old hotel that needs a makeover into 2019. That said, the staff were extremely polite and helpful, the room was quite large (a lot of spare space - was there a sofa missing??) and clean, the pool was wonderful, and the gym was great. It just needs a new paint job and more current decor. Location was about 2kms from any food outlet.

Very nice hotel, but basic pool

British, couple in early twenties.

Generally the hotel was beautiful, nice rooms (although no balcony), extremely clean, not too far from shops and bars, breakfast we were spoiled for choice and the hotel staff are very friendly.

The hotel lobby was very pretty, nice bar, free pool table.

The only thing that let the hotel down is that the pool is very outdated, the outside of the hotel needs a repaint (by the pool), there's no snack bar or bar at the pool, and the sunbeds are very old. Still very clean to be fair and adequate for an end of day swim, however not really suitable for half a day relaxing due to the lack of facilities.

Halong was a nice town, however when we went at the start of September it was a ghost town almost, which meant our hotel was also extremely quiet.

The area felt pretty safe, we didn't have any hassle apart from booking a taxi back to Hanoi airport. The hotel charges $80 each way, but it's safe and reliable. We found one for $30 on the way back to save money, but it definitely wasn't reliable or a safe journey back, so I would recommend the hotel service any day.

Huge and clean rooms

Hotel is slightly further from the sun plaza area but it was only a short taxi ride or 15 min walk away. We got a room with a partial sea view on the 11th floor, which was nice. The room itself was massive and clean.

Large room with 2 single beds; soft beds and pillows. Large bathroom with separate shower and bath. Good view of the bridge and SunWheel from our room.
Excellent buffet breakfast. Excellent service by staff all round.
Good swimming pool (if cold!)
Good room service. I got a massage which was good and firm
All extras are chargeable.
15 minute walk to main part of town but nice to be in quieter area in lovely hotel

Surprising comfort and style

After so many bad experiences as a white western man in North Vietnam, either as tourist or business, this p!ace was a lovely surprise. Staff were wonderful and the food is first rate. Ha Long is a building site for a few more years and its nice to be able to get some peace and quiet.

Overpriced and nowhere as good as it appears

Don't be fooled by the photos, this place looks great when you first check in, with huge rooms and a great looking pool, but the cracks soon show. Has clearly not been upgraded or well maintained for a long time, and basic services break down constantly (e.g. Wifi and TV reception are unreliable, phones crackle and are almost unusable, outdated keycard systems break down constantly - I had to have my card replace multiple times).

Food at the restaurant is poor quality and appears to have just been reheated. Bar service is sloppy- expect to wait up to 20 mins for a way overpriced drink.

The pool would've been fantastic, if it weren't for the fact that it is often taken over by school groups. I never once saw the pool bar staffed.

Many of the staff are quite rude, and will leave you standing there for 10 minutes while they chat with one another. The majority have extremely limited English, to the point that it can take another 10 mins to explain that you would like to use an advertised service.

Security is clearly also an issue - on multiple occasions, there were guests screaming in the hallways and in the restaurant, with no staff moving to defuse the situation. Children running through the halls unsupervised can also be an issue.

I've stayed in a lot of hotels in Vietnam. This was by far the worst, and one of the most expensive. I will not be back.

Great place in Ha Long City, a bit far from the marina though. Breakfeast is plentiful and the buffet at the four season restaurant something to try at least once. Food is fresh and plentiful with elements like cook your own meat and fish you don't see very oftern. The staff at the restaurant is very helpful and freindly.

Pretty much room, staff, meal is great. Except I noticed the bathtub got stained it look gross, bathroom door was awful damaged before I check-in. The water doesn't drain quick at the shower area.

Unpleasant stay at this hotel

Unfortunately there were a lot of problems here.
We purchased an upgrade to a suite hoping to spoil ourselves and we were left with a few problems. Dirty room, sheets, broken fridge. The pool was closed. There was no pool bar like advertised, not that it mattered with a closed pool. There were children running up and down floor screaming and yelling. When we asked for help with these problems we were met with staff that couldn't understand or speak English well. No one was willing to help us or try to fix anything. Then we were charged for 2 waters that were stated were complimentary. We ended up visiting the Local hostel.... which ironically enough was more comfortable with great service and staff that spoke and understood English thoroughly.... which is a small but appreciative gesture in a foreign country. There was no help with local tours from this hotel. We just felt a little isolated. Note to Anyone looking or hoping for a nice stay, you won't find it here unfoerunately. The local hostel we very much recommend.

This is a great property, a clean semi luxurious hotel with a wonderful restaurant. Located on the major thorough fare across from the water providing a beautiful view of Halong Bay, an amazing find for the price. Short cab ride will get you across the bridge to a multitude of solid local restaurants.

Travelers beware if you need transportation to or from the airport there's a huge price difference between the hotel and a normal taxis approximately US$30 - $40, however if you negotiate with the hotel the price comes down as the hotel wants you to take their private car and not the taxi. So travellers you have to be on the ball unless you support being ripped off.

I rented 5 deluxe rooms and was pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival we we're greeted with complimentary tea and enjoyed live music. Considering there were 10 people in my party the check in was easy and quick. The hotel has a full of 4 or 5 people working the check in counter. The rooms themselves are a little dated but well kept and very clean. The bathroom has a shower and tub which is not that common for vietnam. My wife enjoyed taking a bath after a long day of sightseeing

The hotel has a pool table and bar in the lobby. Pool table is a nice touch but is pricey ...200k vnd per hour. Hopefully the hotel revises this rate lower for guests. There is a pool and gym. Went to the pool but found that it wasn't heated so didn't feel like going in.

The best part of this hotel is the breakfast. Very well done and caters to a wide range of tastes. My American family and Vietnamese aunts/ grandma all away very satisfied.

So far, the nicest hotel we have had the pleasure of staying at during our Vietnam travels. Nice view of the bay, Bridge, Tram and Sun Wheel including the evening lighting on these objects. Good food and variety for the breakfast buffet. Friendly and helpful staff. We had a small puddle from a slow water leak in the bathroom. It was repaired but leaked again a couple of days latter. We were relocated to another room immediately.

Luxury at its Best

The hotel was absolutely amazing - luxury at its best with an unbelievable price tag! Food was great, the room was amazing for size, comfort, views and with gadgets all over! Staff were great and we found all facilities to be first class including the swimming pool.

The area, although beautiful is quite a way from anything to do so this is perfect for those that want to stay in the hotel, not so much if you don't. The Internet connections was also very up and down but we are finding this around Asia anyway...

Fab stay for just one night

The hotel lobby was quite plush. We ate lunch there and it was very nice. Tasty and affordable. Staff fell over themselves to be helpful. The pool was good to. Nice views of spectacular bridge what lights up at night. Not alot around outside to do tho. Large room was double and cheap

As mentioned by many, the hotel has got its best days but personnel is nice and rooms are big and clean. Pity that the bar closes at 23:00 and that the welcome cocktail is only half full. A bit outside the centre, it is luckily not affected by the construction of the shore side theme park. Breakfast is ok.

Very nice hotel. Clean and comfortable with a view of the water. Not right in the heart of town so it was quieter. Great breakfast. Hotel restaurant serves pretty good food. Hotel was quiet on weekdays but on the weekend there were lots of guests with kids from other parts of Vietnam and it was very noisy. Good thing it was time for us to leave. There was a mix up with our booking between hotels.com and the hotel which ended up costing us a lot of time and money on long distance phone calls to straighten out. Totally uncalled for had the hotel been willing to resolve this with hotels.com directly.

Very nice hotel, great value for money. However the restaurant could be better.
We went to have the sushi buffet dinner, and it was ok... Not the quality you would like for the money you are paying. The salmon and tuna sashimi were frozen and the variety of sushi wasn't proper of the hotel.
Overall a great hotel, super service and excellent price.

Fancy hotel, friendly, good food

Halong Plaza is a very nice looking hotel, quite fancy and we found it very cheap on Expedia. My boyfriend and I were travelling SE Asia and this was a lovely break from the other more casual places that we stayed in. The service was lovely and the room was very spacious. I really liked it. I would really recommend the buffet dinner as it is gorgeous, even though it is a little pricey.

The thing about the area it is in is that there is nothing there, but we didn't find this to be a problem. We had a spare half day in the area after our booked tours were done so the reception staff recommended we go over the bridge to the other side and the walk there was beautiful. We met some locals who took us out on their little boats away from the main wharf and it was beautiful. We didn't really want to use the pool or gym as Halong Bay itself is one that needs to be discovered.

I'd recommend it here if you want to be in a peaceful place!

Also, in Hanoi the tour guides try to get you to book a cruise/tour with them which are around $100+ for the round trip. We decided to go ourselves and see what we find so we just took a bus from Hanoi to get here and it worked out much cheaper. There are guides near the wharf who will arrange day trips out in to the bay if you want.

This hotel met our expectations. We did not like our first room as it overlooked a building site so we were promptly moved to another room with a good view of the bridge and the bay.
The hotel's facilities are good and we enjoyed the swimming pool on a number of occasions. Breakfast was included and there was a good range to choose from. For a large hotel there did not seem to be very many guests.

Room was spacious and had a fantastic view.

We stayed for 2 nights. Room was clean and spacious and had a fantastic view of the bridge. The bathroom was also spacious and clean. Housekeeping was efficient and was very quick to provide us with an extension cord and ironing board. Breakfast was sumptuous and delicious. We also tried the seafood buffet at the Four Seasons Restaurant, which was delicious and included, to our surprise, free beer and soft drinks. Great value for money.

This hotel is right by the big bridge in Halong and at night you get some superb views. The room was clean and very comfortable with HUGE beds. Excellent customer service and good room service too.A bit more expensive than other hotels, but worth it.

OK for short stay.

Good base for the area, better than an 8 hour return car/bus trip from Hanoi if your thinking about a trip on a Junk. Rooms were large, clean and well equipped. Staff a bit stand off'ish but OK if you persevered.

Pool was good, but no staff on, we have to ask for drinks etc at the bar two floors away.

While the hotel is out of the centre the cost of a taxi is minimal and they are easily found. Two or three nights is enough for the area.

At check out we were asked to explain where our two coffee spoons had gone, when we denied stealing them staff were dispatched to double check and once found we were allowed to check out!

I stayed in the hotel with my husband for 3D/2N. The hotel is is clean. The room is neat, comfortable and quite spacious. We had difficulty coordinating with the staff because they speak very minimal English. Unfortunately for us, we came at a time when there was some construction going on the other side of the hotel and it was quite loud.

The stay was ok in HaLong Bay because of the people outside of the hotel and the scenery.

The service level was low, and not helpfull at all, many rules I dont even understand why they implement, I was going to HaLong Bay to visit my gf and didnt think it would be a problem for her to stay at the hotel with me. To have her stay at the hotel with me they wanted me to rent a seperate room for her as we are not married, and it was no way for them to budge on this, I really dont understand why they have such a rule and it is stupod and makes me not want to go back to this hotel just for the reason they show now understanding no matter the problem.
They want money for everything, and more than is told in adds and so on.
resturant is ok, but not more, location is ok, but not good far better options in HaLong Bay at this price.

Brilliant views from the room and the staff was very accomodating & service minded helping me with multiple things around my stay: Flexibility in terms of check-out & help both arranging a day-tour as well as my transportation leaving Ha Long Bay, all on a short notice which I genuinely appreciated. 10/10 would definitely stay again.

話せばながくなるが、このホテルに宿泊の際は注意した方が良い。最初は感じが良く、フロントも非常にテキパキと仕事をこなし、部屋も良かったし、言うことなしと思っていた。しかし、感じはいっぺん、悪いものづくしとなったなっ。1) 冷蔵庫の品に全く手を付けていないのに、一本ジュースを飲んだ、と請求された。勿論触れてもいないので払わす。宿泊前に利用したハロン湾の一泊のクルーズ船Serena号の運営もハロンプラザホテルも同じ会社。クルーズ船で世話になったやり手のマネージャーに、チェックアウト後のハノイ市内までのプライベート・カーの手配を頼んだ。来る時もホテル、クルーザーと同時に往路のハノイからハロン湾までの車を頼んでいたので、同じ車を頼んだが、用意されたのは汚い少し小さい車だった。それは良いとして、費用は往路アメリカドルで90ドル支払ったことは、本人はよく知っているはず。でも、尋ねたので90ドルと教えた。
出発の朝わざわざ見送りに来てくれ、如何にも親切に装った。まず、その車に一緒に乗り込み自分の住んでいる家の前まで、送らせた。車中で車代の90ドルを要求、100ドル札を渡すと、10ドルのお釣りをベトナムドンでくれた。そこまでは許せるとして、車が走り出すと地道をゆっくりと走る。往路は高速でとても快適にハノイからハロン湾まで来れたが、復路はちがう。埃っぽいガタガタ道を走るので、不思議に感じ30キロ程走った所で、運転手に高速道路に入らないのかと言うと、そんな契約ではない。高速を走るなら高速代わわ払え、とまで言われた。車を手配してくれたマネージャーはプロではなく何だか知人にアルバイトを頼んだ感じ、がした。無駄に2時間も最悪の地道を走り、やっとホアヒンのインターから高速に入った。往路の運転手は乗るなり、ボトル一本の水を我々夫婦にくれ、途中頼んでいなくても、一時間走った辺りで、パーキングエリアに入りトイレ休憩をし、更にもう一度一時間後に2度目の休憩をした。車は大きく、綺麗で、親切丁寧な運転手だった。復路は大違い、時間は掛かるし、一時間半以上無駄にした。トイレ休憩もないので、こちらから申し出たが見つけてくれす、私がホテルの前で車を止めさせ、自ら交渉してトイレをした。どれだけ、セコい事をして少しの小遣い稼ぎをしようとしたのかは知らないが、本当に怪しからん話しである。クルーズ船での親切や、好意は全て水泡に期したと言えるし、彼の信用は全く無くなったと言って良い。口先ばかりの親切は化けの皮が剥げると、最低だ。もう一つストーリーがある。ホテルのレストランで夕食を食べようとした時、ウエイトレスの1人が、突然あなた方の部屋の番号は？と聞かれた。番号を告げると彼女は、レストランから出て行った。不思議に思い、彼女を呼んで責めるも理由を教えない。叱責し始めると男性のスタッフが寄って来て、説明を始めた。
実は昔アメリカのアトランタ市のホテルで同様のことがあり、食事後に部屋に戻ると全ての持ち物が無くなっていた。ウエイトレスが外に出て友人に連絡し、友人2人がマスターキーを使って私の部屋に侵入し、持ち物等を全て盗んでいたのだった。その悪夢を思い出し、叱責したのだ。責任者らしき男性が詫びに来たが、こんな事があってはならない。まだまだあるが、長いので、この辺にする。
兎に角、お客様は神様なんですよ、と言っておきたい。

El mejor hotel en el que estuvimos en Vietnam

El hotel parece un 5 estrellas, nada de un 4 estrellas. Personal atento, nos cambiaron a una habitación superior porque mi mujer no coge ascensores y estábamos en el piso 11. Vistas increibles, cama y almohada cómoda.
Cenamos en el comedor del hotel y la verdad que no fue excesivamente caro para ser Vietnam y cenamos bueno y abundante.
El desayuno buffet muy variado, se me hace difícil encontrar alguna pega, igual que no hay muchos restaurantes por la zona, pero vamos que el hotel es espectacular, el mejor de Vietnam.

Ottimo albergo in buona posizione per la cable car, la zona è nuova e in fase di sviluppo ma non mancano locali, ristoranti e negozi. Camera ampia, pulita e silenziosa; bagno stratosferico. Colazione super

Die Zimmer waren leider schimmelig und entsprechend muffig. Wir wurden auf Beschwerde hin umquartiert in ein anderes Zimmer. Hier war es zumindest etwas besser, aber auch nicht gut. Selbst in der Lobby war der Geruch bereits zu vernehmen. Das gesamte Gebäude ist kernsanierungsbedürftig.
