Charming hotel in the center of town

Beautiful room with two balconies and lovely furnishings. The bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was cavernous. The hotel is in a wonderfully decorated historic building in the center of town. A perfect place from which to enjoy Santillana Del Mar. The only point against them is that there is no coffee maker or kettle in the room. Parking available in their lot for a small charge.

Santillana del mar is a fantastic medieval town and the parador hotel is right in the heart of it, with a building matching the sUrroundings inside and out. We loved the rooms with balconies overlooking the coirtyard and huge shuttered windows. A wonderful place to explore on foot, and the nearby altamira caves. We also visited comillas- another great place to explore, with a whimsical house designed by anton gaudi.

This is a lovely old hotel with fabulous grand old rooms. Lots of charm. Bit tricky to drive to, last part of journey is on narrow cobbled streets full of visitors, but take your time and you’ll be fine. Hotels in a lovely big square with parking opposite and easy to get into. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, picked up breakfast from a lovely little panaderia two minutes walk away and the lovely village is literally in the doorstep.

We have stayed at this Parador before it’s is usually a very quiet place.
When we arrived there was a festival and a band very noisy don’t go on the 1st July.
We also thought the waitresses in the restaurants not very friendly

The service and staff was very helpful. They supplied my wife with wheel chair so she can get around your hotel without using stairs. The medieval architecture was very appealing. The restaurant had a good selection of food. The food also was very good.

Lovely medieval town with many restaurants. Navigation into the town is a little difficult but the parador has garage and private parking. 30 minutes from Santander ferry and highly recommended to start or finish a holiday to this area.

A lovely experience, even in the off-season

I lovely place to stay in the heart of this historic town. Located in a beautiful area to walk around. Visiting during winter, and after COVID, meant that most restaurants nearby were closed, but the hotel staff took great care of us and ensured every meal was interesting and enjoyable.

Great hotel right on the main square

Great hotel right on the main square. Atmospheric historical decor and quiet room overlooking the little garden. Reception was friendly and welcoming. Parking was easy though it would have been better if the price was included in the room cost (8 euros). Very comfortable stay.

A gorgeous character filled hotel

Loved our stay here - such a gorgeous space. Our only slight criticism would be the breakfast. It was certainly not up to par when compared to other breakfasts throughout our 5 weeks in Spain. A lot of pre-packaged cakes etc - rather than the freshly baked goods on offer elsewhere. We would stay again but would eat breakfast elsewhere.

Paradors are of course in a category apart. We were thrilled to have found availability at short notice in this historic building in charming Santillana del Mar (despite the name it's not on the coast). Our special offer 2night stay with half board was very competitively priced. How can you compare a hotel with a room off a corridor with a room off a huge landing with (mediocre) 17th century paintings, antique furniture and sofas?
Big , comfortable bedroom; big, limestone bathroom under the eaves. The larger rooms on the lower floors are probably cooler in hot weather, but the air-con works fine if you want it to. We slept with the window open and were woken at dawn by the racket made by a family of storks doing a turn round the square below. What a treat!
The breakfast was superlative. Slightly underwhelming tea for Brits and rather overwhelming coffee which you could practically trot a mouse on. We managed to resist the eggs benedict but saw a large French woman tucking in, and they looked amazing.

Location of the Hotel is easy access for those arriving by bus from Santander. It is a short walk for even me with walking discomfort and back pack. The Hotel is in the town center from where one can walk in all directions. Beautiful town with many beautiful buildings and beautiful walks. Stayed there in late October so there were few tourists. It did rain but stopped long enough for one to walk and explore. We stayed there because it was 20 min. by car to UNESCO World Heritage site Cave of Altamira.

Lovely hotel in picturesque small town

This parador is set in the centre of Santillana - slightly difficult to find initially without directions but once you get your bearings it's very straightforward. Service was excellent, the room spacious and comfortable and the food well presented, imaginative and tasty. We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely old building, and exploring the town.

This beautiful hotel is old world yet luxurious. Located in Santillan’s plaza, the location is excellent. The hotel used to be a rural palace home and still contains much of the original architecture and furnishings. Our room was a bit small but absolutely charming, with a comfy bed and a modern bathroom.

This hotel is in a beautiful historic village. There are numerous bars and restaurants in walking distance although most of them were shut due to it being low season. We had an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant.

Nice stay at Parador.

The atmosphere was fantastic with ancient structure. The shower and other equipment were well installed and there was no problems. The parking was across the square.
The dinner was more than enough. Fabulous. But you might want to watch out the portion (big). Service was very nice and you can enjoy the stay.
Also easy access to the Cave of Altamira which is also very nice.

Delighted with our stay in Parador Gil Blas.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. In particular the gentleman who gave us a lift to the station in his own car when the timetabled bus failed to arrive. I can't praise him highly enough.

Beautiful hotel, great experience

This is a lovely hotel/parador. It is a gem and I can't understand why it was not mentioned in my two guide books. The beds were comfortable, linens soft and bathroom clean/well stocked. The hotel had a wonderful breakfast and dinner was also available. Vegetarian dinner options are limited to \"starters\", but the portions are quite large so be careful. The staff is quite helpful and friendly. They even ran a copy of the city history in English from the computer for me. The setting could not be more inviting. The parador is a little difficult to find because it is located within the walled city. Our GPS took us directly to the tourist information center. Fortunately, the TI was open and provided a map to the hotel. I can't see how you can miss on this one...especially if you like atmosphere.

Special experience is a Spanish Paradore.

Special experience in a Spanish Paradore. Was a bit difficult to find if driving by car. Roads into the historic area are marked as \"no entry\"; however, as a guest of the Paradore you are allowed to drive. Entry was a bit harrowing with the many tourists who are oblivious to car traffic. Once we were used to our surroundings, we navigated more easily. Meals in restaurants were excellent.

Live Like Royalty.

You work hard all year so why not live like the Queen for a day or longer... We couldn't fault this Hotel, the setting is a historic building on the 15th Century village square cleanly furnised with appropriate style decor to match, only a couple of hundred yards away from the most touresty bit, our accomodation was about 800 square feet, air conditioned, a very comfortable bed and packed with original features, we both agreed the website pictures didn't do it justice. Polite, smart, bi-lingual, helpful staff and with car parking very close by, not bad for a car free location or only a 8 Euros(2014) taxi fare from the San Miguel Feve railway station. Go on treat yourself...

Beautiful Hotel

This Parador is outstanding - well situated in the square in the centre of the lovely medieval village. As with most paradors, there are so many lovely communal areas to sit in and enjoy the historical building. Our room was spacoius, clean. comfortable and with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is very convenient across the square.

Der ganze Ort war zu touristisch. Überfüllt mit Tagesurlaubern.
Der Service im Hotel war sehr unaufmerksam. Besonders der Ablauf beim Frühstück müsste besser organisiert werden. Eine Servicekraft für einen vollbesetzten Frühstücksraum ist definitiv zu wenig.
