The staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent evening meal.
The room would have benefited from a bedside lamp reached from the exit side of the bed.

Excellent location and wonderful staff!!! Kailee, Graham, and Cheryl were just a few names of hotel staff that were absolutely above and beyond helpful and friendly! Everyone i encountered was so kind during my week long stay.
I loved the food in the hotel restaurant, especially the custard! LoL I ordered extra every chance I could! I didn't try Haggis, lol, but the steak, fish, macaroni, and BLT dishes I did try. All were delicious!
The hotel room was roomy for a single. Very comfy bed. No microwave or fridge though. Smallish shower, but worked great.
My only pain point was structural and based on my limited mobility, I wish there was an elevator. Also I didn't realize when booking first floor meant still had to go upstairs. Many stairs to and from rooms and out of hotel or to dining room. But if no mobility issues, you will not have a problem.
Beautiful hotel! And bus stop is just down a few buildings, very close. Buses super nice and quick. Very inexpensive to get to nearby attractions or just enjoy countryside! Lovely, diverse shops and museums walking nearby! Just loved this stay!

The hotel has seen better days, the stairs to all the bedrooms were never hoovered during our four night stay. Housekeeping gave us fresh towels, tea and milk but did not empty the two bins or make the bed. The windows were not clean. We tried to get a drink at the bar but there was no staff to be seen, no-one at reception either so we just went to another hotel for a drink.

We had a very warm informative welcome. The room was at the back which helped it be quieter when the private parties could be loud when they were on in the function room. It looks as if some updating is happening and needs new window frames and closers. The bed was comfy. Hospitality tray was great. In the bar the staff were great. You were served quickly and they kept the bar tidy. They were very friendly. We had bar sharing plate snack which was amazing. We didn’t have breakfast as not breakfast eaters so can’t comment about that.
We loved our stay and everything about the hotel.

Good location right on the high street in Melrose, but the hotel is very dated and in need of redecoration. I seem to have been upgraded and had a much better room than I expected, very large with a bay window overlooking the street, so I was very pleased with my stay. Breakfast is good and freshly cooked to order.

I liked the historic charm of the building but, in my opinion, there is a need for some considerable investment to make it a bit more comfortable for guests. For example, the window did not open which made by wife anxious. The sliding door would not function.

Property seems very tired now and I was disappointed not to see any card indicating their WiFi code when I got to my room after reception had closed.
Staff I did encounter were certainly pleasant enough and breakfast was ample, reasonably priced and very tasty.
Toilet in the bedroom was particularly tricky to get a flush from, which could have been quite distressing for a less well seasoned traveller...

Perfectly functional but could do with upgrading. Not really a problem but also there was no hairdryer, which has become normal in most hotels so hadn’t thought to take my own.

This really is a great place. The staff is fantastic! I was in a single room at the front of the hotel. The bed wasn't great. That is really my only concern. I was over the pub (which is wonderful!) so it was a bit noisy until closing. My solution for that: join in the fun. As just an FYI. If you're sensitive to light you'll have to bring an eye mask, but again an easy fix. This room must've been above the smoking area as it did stink. I'm sure I could've moved, no doubt the wonderful staff would've accommodated me but I just didn't say anything as I was only there 2 nights. I would recommend this place and stay again.

Had a one night stay with my dog. Had a single room, quite small, but with en-suite.
Some of the stairs and hallways were in much need of redecorating.
Overall really good value for money, although some areas looked a bit ‘tired’ linen was clean & bed comfortable. All in with Bed & breakfast better than camping & not much dearer. Would definitely go back.

Would describe the place as \"quaint\", a bit run down (condition of bathrooms, floors) but also well cared for and clean (bedding/towels). Im certain all rooms differ, but we happened to have a lovely view out the window. Centrally located in Merose, friendly and accomodating staff. Included breakfast had a variety of options. Slept comfortably, would definitely stay here again.

Really bad service throughout, on this our second stay here.

I reserved an evening meal table and understand the staff were busy due to a wedding party, but we are all customers and deserve to treated the same.

Food was not as I would have expected.
Certain members of staff were polite, but others just impolite and it was obvious they were stressed due to the workload.

Breakfast here is a complete shambles.
As the state on arrival its between 8 and 9 but again the staff cannot cope.

you queue for hot water for the tea and coffee machine which takes it seems 3 minutes a cup and when trying to get 2 cups it seems longer.

When the breakfast you ordered does arrive its around 45 mins and cold, I sent mine back only for another 5 minutes wait, it actually came back colder.

I just left in disgust.

Save you money, there is easily better

The hotel seemed poorly-managed. The room needed decorating, blinds/curtains renewed, extractor fan improved, a decent-sized TV installed. The breakfast room was over-filled with tables/chairs so that it was barely possible to access buffet items. No marmalade; Scotland honestly! Poor value

I went to a music festival on my Birthday 1/9/24.... looking for accommodation close by .... phoned the hotel to ask about transport and taxi in the area ....lady on reception was very helpful with this....then I asked for early check in if possible as we wanted a wash and change before heading to festival she said she try her best

We arrived Sunday lunchtime.....and she a room 14 ready for us.....the room was big and spotless can't fault it. We also had a lovely sleep...bed was brilliant. We had a lovely cooked breakfast with plenty of choices.....so all in all can't go wrong with hotel met all our needs.

Alright if you’re happy with basic.

Good location for the centre of Melrose which we booked at last minute for a night away. Friendly staff at checkin; however, the hotel itself could do with some investment. Whilst it was fine for the night, we wouldn’t want to have stayed much longer. The room was very basic and dated, no window as such, just a roof light. Overall it didn’t feel the cleanest and you could smell the kitchens when on the first floor. The reviews suggested 8/10, but this seems rather high for the night we experienced.
Fine for a basic stay, but wouldn’t recommend for a couples night away.

We booked this as we were doing a race at 6am the following morning which started over the road from hotel. So location was perfect. We arrived a little later than expected due to traffic but staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Food was lovely, prefect pre race meal. Rooms were comfortable and just what we needs for a good night's rest. As we missed breakfast as we had to leave, they made us a little bag up with sandwiches, crisps, water and fruit and was ready as we left. Will definitely book again and thank you to the lovely staff.

Reasonable overall - food excellent.

Stayed as a couple for family function. We know Melrose very well and have stayed at the G&A before.
Above all it is good value and has a certain charm
The food is its greatest feature and always pleasantly surprises us with its quality and value for money. Dinner and breakfast are very hard to beat.
However, if you want top comfort you’ll need to pay more and stay elsewhere.
There is still a certain charm but it badly needs renovation.
