Best hotel on our week long tour of the Highlands.
Like stepping back in time, it felt traditional and lovely decor and history to it.
Felt cosy, welcoming and the food and staff fantastic.
The setting too incredible, the drive and location in the heart of terrain.
You won't be disappointed.

Only stayed one night but the staff were super friendly and helpful. If you like modern then you’re going to the wrong place. The decor fits the building perfectly with really beautiful artwork and fittings. Evening meal and breakfast were both superb !! Would definitely return and hopefully next time stay longer to take advantage of the outdoors as the location and scenery is stunning.

Staff was not friendly and offered no explanations regarding breakfast or which rooms on the main floor were open for guest use. Since it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get to and there’s no towns nearby, we had no options but to eat dinner there. The food was good but this definitely brought up our overall costs. Our stay was okay but given that it was by far our most expensive stay of our Scotland trip, I can’t say I’d recommend it. P

The room was nice, view's are spectacular. However the hotel itself is tired needs updating even just a lick of pain, new flooring etc would work. Beautiful walks and grounds. Staff were lovely and friendly. Food was ok nothing special but not expensive. The pictures in the website wasn't a true representation of the hotel as I said needs a good update and clean. The bath in our room needs replacing asap I'd say. However everything else was good

We chose to stay hear because it was our dream on this backpacking trip to stay in a castle. The castle is beautiful, warm, with the wood fireplace burning. I will say that for a very old property they keep it extremely unkept. It is of older charm, so keep that in mind (older carpets, less electrical plugs). The food , staff, and the stay was amazing, I only wish we weren’t backpacking so we could’ve stayed longer.

One thing to note are that the parking situation threw us off alittle because there is a sign at the entrance of the estate saying no vehicles pass this point but you can drive all the way up and part in any spot around the castle. So don’t worry about parking.

All staff we were in contact with from reception, bar and meals were fantastic. Our dinner and breakfast were very good and of good quantity and value. Even though we were in a Castle, our room was dated compared to some others and could do with a freshen up. Windows could do with a wipe over to remove mould from condensation. Hydronic radiators could do with a service as we were woken during the night by them. Overall we were happy with our stay and thought it was reasonable value.

The only notes I'd leave would be it appears they very much want to keep the old castle charm which is why we booked it, however the cushions could benefit from restuffing and oddly enough our bathroom backsplash was 70s/80s black rainbow sparkle tile which took away from the old castle charm. Super minor in the grand scheme of things. Overall we had a lovely stay. Would definitely recommend.

Staying at the Dalmunzie Castle Hotel was a real pleasure.
The Estate dates from the early 16th century, one of the most serenely beautiful places I have ever visited.
Walking the property was like walking through a dream.
The hotel dates from the 1880’s.
Though worn a bit in the charming Scottish fashion it’s well maintained, the staff there solely for your comfort, the food very good, the bar featuring endless varieties of local whiskeys and gins in a wonderful room.
We loved being there.

We stayed here as it was close to the highland games we were attending and was a nice stay. The property is very old and shows signs of it, but was part of the castle stay charm. The staff are wonderful and the hiking is breathtaking. Food was good and it was a neat stay in a castle. Would recommend.

Dalmunzie is a quiet country retreat which is great for a romantic getaway. The country side around the property is beautiful with sheep and goats. Good golf course.
There is a narrow old staircase. So you need to be able to carry your own luggage upstairs. Great food and wonderful breakfast.
Great location to visit Balmoral Castle and the Glenshee ski fields in winter.

Lovely castle hotel set in a beautiful valley between the hills. Decor is very Scottish and quite quirky but looking a bit tired in places that could be fixed quite easily and would make the hotel great instead of very good. A charging point for mobile phones in the room would be welcome and an easy fix. Had a truly enjoyable stay and the staff were excellent.

The food at this property was one of the worst experiences I have had at a hotel. The food was exceptionally expensive and, to be honest, quite strange. To me, it seemed as if the menu was needlessly fancy. I am all for an adventurous menu but it has to be properly executed. Fish cakes were cold, the chocolate venison dish was served with a melted chocolate on the plate, and the chicken liver pate only contained one texture on the plate.

The cooks could cook as all of the breakfast was excellent, but the main meals were honestly entirely dissapointing and horrendously overpriced.

Our stay was fabulous! The room was beautiful and had everything we needed.The food and service was excellent! We cannot say enough about our stay! The surroundings were also quite beautiful with sheep on the hillside and horses grazing, river running alongside the castle. We needed to dry our clothing and the staff took care of that for us without batting an eye. Thankyou to all that work there!

We drove out of our way to stay here but no regrets. The countryside was beautiful and the drivers courteous on the single track roads making a pleasant journey. We ate in the bar area and the food was good and our bartender very accommodating. We had a smaller room but everything we needed. Loved the morning view and we opted for breakfast and it was excellent.

Staff were amazing , they were welcoming, warm, friendly and made every effort to make your stay a positive experience.
The room we occupied was spacious and the bed was comfortable.
There was plenty draw space to put your clothes into, but no hanging space. That said with the angles of the walls and the eaves of the room meant there was no place to actually fit a wardrobe for this purpose, so without major renovation to the room, this was beyond the hotels control.
The only other minor point is that there was no toilet brush in the bathroom, but this by no means had any impact on our stay !

Very Dissapointed - but stunning location

Really disappointing stay - the photos on the website and on the Hotel's own website look excellent and so we accepted the higher price point (over £200 for 1 night on an October sunday) and were really looking forward to visiting.

The good points - Location (stunning) - Staff (helpful) - Dinner (ok) - Breakfast (great).

The Bad points - the Hotel is now quite shabby and really needs some t.l.c. and investment. Basic things in just our room included leaving plastered areas (old plug sockets) unpainted, damaged doors and skirting, and ripped wallpaper all give it a run down feeling.

A lot of these things could be sorted with minimal work. It took 10 minutes to get the TV to work (you have to go in to settings to change the display port), and the cold water runs milky white! We took to boiling the water before trying to drink it (eventually going to the nearby shop to buy bottled water).

For over £200 a night for a Sunday in October - this really isn't good enough. We wont be returning (unfortunately).

The location is very very remote, which is fine, just be aware of this fact. I reserved here as I wanted a castle stay and saw the wonderful photos of richly decorated rooms. This was not the case for us. Our room was up on the 3rd floor under dormer ceiling and felt like a dorm room. It was small, clean and simply decorated. It did not feel like a castle at all, which is sad as it was a surprise for my sisters’ birthday. Breakfast is not included even though when we checked in, we were told it was. Lovely country grounds to walk around and enjoy nature.

Our stay felt like Downton Abbey transported into the Highlands -- with less drama. The estate is beautiful. The walks through the woods and hills are gorgeous. The dining was fabulous. The lunch kitchen was open late in the afternoon to sate our ravenous appetite after our excursions. The staff were kind, careful, and friendly.

Charming early 20th century castle with family history back to 2000BC. Friendly staff, comfortable room with historical decor and fixtures. Lots of hiking around the hotel. We had a lovely hike in the hills, by the streams and sheep. Breakfast and dinner outstanding and delicious with very generous portions. Parking not clear and difficult to find in the dark.

This is tough. We loved the grounds, it was secluded and beautiful you could spend hours walking. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive all around and the bar area was nice to hang out in and meet some other people! Breakfast was really good too. However, immediately upon entering our room it reeked of cigarette smoke. There was no other room there or near there. They comped us a couple of drinks from the bar but we left stuffy in the morning. The room was OK. Considering the age of the building as one thing, the decor, furniture and linens could be updated. The beds were OK, but not super comfy. The linens looked like they had a yellow tinge and had tears in the sheets. So depending on what you’re looking for this may have everything you want but if you want a super clean, comfortable room I don’t think this would be it. If you want superb staff and amazing grounds then this would be it! To each their own.

This is very nice hotel. The staff were excellent, as was the food.
The only negative I would say is that it probably needs a little bit of upgrading as some of the past alterations to this lovely historical building were not sympathetic to its aesthetic.
I would definitely visit again, especially in the winter when the fires are lit- very cosy for a romantic getaway.
